I'm always a sucker for Chinese. I never knew about chinese fine dining. This place is absolutely stunning, well dressed staff moving about in a packed restaurant proving solid professional service. Food is well suited to many palettes. I had a version of general tso's that was much less sweet and spicy but had a strong umami flavor. The chinatown Special egg roll was a delight. Would come here again. Reminds me of a shanghai jazz bar from the 20's. Makes me wish they were big enough for live music! read more

Never realized what this was after walking by several times but really enjoyed the ambiance here. It's hard to find a classy Chinese restaurant in lakeview east! Service was excellent; they start the meal with warm towels and these crunchy snacks. Our group split everything, starting with the appetizers - potstickers, cucumber salad, spring rolls, and crab rangoons. I think the crab rangoons and cucumbers were my favorite! We also split shrimp pad se ew, beef bulgogi, and the sesame chili crisp tofu. The tofu was the standout dish of the whole meal!! Ping Pong is a vibe!! Absolutely loved the 1930s Shanghai decor!! It made me feel transported outside of Chicago while there. We were seated indoors but there is outdoor patio seating available. Just wanted to grab cocktails with friends but felt like we still got 5 star service. The shrimp chips at the start and decadent chocolate dipped fortune cookies at the end were so appreciated--fun surprises for our first time there! The unique Asian-inspired cocktails were all great. The pandan really shined in the pandan old-fashioned. I loved the mango mojito--the drink was so pretty! And I thought the Farewell My Concubine drink was very interesting but ultimately the floral aroma they spritzed on the drink was a little too floral for me. read more

Their menu has updated with the times, adding new flavors, meals, and flavorful profiles, while maintaining classics, a commitment to high quality ingredients, and reasonable prices! My favorite cocktails are currently the Opium Haze and the Farewell My Concubine. My husband likes to get the Sapporo Large. We still love to start with the hot and sour soup. For meals, I love the Thai Basil Beef, Mu Shu Pork, or General's Chicken. My husband loves the Honey Glazed Chicken. The sprinkle and frosting covered fortune cookies are always a delightful way to end the meal! Their menu service at Ping Pong has also remained top-notch. Their wait staff are kind, attentive, and personable. For the moment you walk through the door and leave at the end of the meal, you will be well take care of! Even small touches like the offering of warm cleaning towels when you first down demonstrate their commitment to customer care! The ambiance is also impeccable. The decor is ornate, warm, and inviting. We had to wait for a table to open during our last visit and we loved sitting in the beautiful seating area with adorable decorations and greenery enjoying our drinks from the bar. The bathrooms and building are always clean and we've appreciated how they've started to space tables out a little more spaciously recently. That has made the dinning experience even better! Ping Pong surprised me - in a good way! It was late, around 9 pm, so there wasn't a ton open. We walked into Ping Pong and they immediately sat us at the bar (even though it was still very busy). We could've waited a couple minutes for the table but the bar was really spacious and nice. There is so much attention to detail and the ambiance of the restaurant was fantastic. Everything felt so nice, from the little hand towels before you eat, to the chopstick rests, to the dessert fortune cookies for dessert. I was really impressed! Our waiter was very attentive, again offering to move us to a table but we liked the bar. The food came out so fast, and even though we only ordered two appetizers, cold peanut noodles and sweet potato roll, it was so much food!! There are a lot of vegetarian options. Under the rice and noodles section, a lot of the dishes you can ask for tofu, and there's a separate veggie section on the back, too. They have a really cute little patio on the sidewalk. I've been craving Asian food and live nearby so I decided to give this place a shot! We arrived about 6 minutes late to our reservation on a Saturday night and had to wait an additional ~8 min in their lobby seating area before we were seated. Despite this, they apologized profusely and were able to get our drink orders in. Although I was a little frustrated, their kindness and receptive service did make for the extra wait. Plus, it was cool to have time to look at the decor of the place, which is inspired by 1930s Shanghai. It had a homey vibe, adorned with family portraits everywhere. Drinks: I ordered a Mango Mojito which was so delicious (warning: really sweet but I love sweet things) and refreshing. My partner ordered the Shanghai Jazz which was strong with a semi-sweet, floral flavor profile. Appetizers: We ordered the Mexican Maki which upon first bite had a fresh crunch and burst of flavor from the cucumber and then a very subtle spice from the jalapeño. I personally wish it was a bit spicier. We also got the Vegetable Dumplings which was sweet and crunchy-- not really outstanding on its own but the sauce that accompanied it helped it shine a bit more. Entree: For our entree we split the roasted duck (it's big so I would recommend doing so between 2-3 people). It was amazing!! Charred and crunchy on the outside, sweet and smoked flavor... and the gravy?? Wow it augmented the duck 100x more-- it also reminded me of the food my grandma used to make so I may be biased. Dessert: We were beyond stuffed at this point but I always have room for dessert, so we ordered the Great Brick Wall. It smells amazing like toasted marshmallows!!! Definitely smell before you take a bite-- it makes you appreciate the flavor more. Although it smells pretty sweet, the flavor wasn't too sweet & the pistacho ice cream helped neutralize the sweetness. Overall, I would rate the restaurant a 9/10. read more

I had their special for the night which were the scallion noodles and they were amazing. A slightly smaller (and more affordable) portion of savory noodles that left me scraping the plate. The service here really is top notch, they give you a warm towelette to wash your hands prior to eating. The table set up really does remind me of fine dining etiquette and it's very cozy inside of here. Our waitress was exceptional towards us. She catered to anything we could've wanted and offered to get us new napkins and show us how to place our chopsticks on the holder. The food was exceptional. I loved the spiciness of the beef with the sauce and peppers it comes with. The salt & pepper chicken really hold the rest of the dishes together flavor wise. The pan fried string beans were some of the best I've ever had. Would highly recommend this to anyone if you like them. read more

If I'm being honest, this is more of a 3.5. Ahead of a comedy show, I popped in for dinner, and funnily enough, I lived a block away from Ping Pong for almost 3 years and never went in. Anyway, we made a reservation and ended up standing in the very small entryway with 4 other parties for well over 40 minutes. It seems like there were a couple of big parties before we got there, and as a result the entryway was packed with other people who had reservations as well and were waiting for their tables to be ready. Everyone was brought drink menus and had drinks brought to us while we waited. I ordered the Indochine which was super tropical and passionfruity, but maybe just a little bit on the strong side, which was fine since it was Saturday night LOL! Once we finallly were seated, we ordered the Bulgolgi Lettuce Wraps which were on special that night and were super flavorful and filling. To start, I also ordered the Sizzling Rice Soup which was pretty good too, the soup is brought to the table and the server breaks the crispy rice into it, which is fun~! For my main, I ordered the Pan-Seared Egg Noodles, which were just fine. I ordered it with chicken and immediately regretted it because the chicken was not good. I'm not someone who can eat unseasoned chicken and it truly was just cooked chicken tossed into the noodles. I also didn't love the consistency of the noodles, which were super soft in the middle but unbearably crunchy on the surface. Just not for me, which is fine! Not my favorite Chinese place on the strip, but would be cute for a date if you're in the area and perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. read more

Very disappointing experience. My friend and I have been wanting to try this place for months and finally decided to come here for dinner. I will say, the servers are very attentive... to a fault. Throughout our dinner we had different people coming up to our table asking if they could take things away (that were full plates of food, by the way, and we had been served maybe 5 minutes before) and asking if everything was okay 3 or 4 times. It was to the point where it got disruptive and annoying. The server asked for our drink and food order pretty much the second we sat down. We hadn't even looked at the menu yet. When we were ready to order, we got the edamame as an appetizer, peanut noodles, and pad Thai. The food came out in seconds. We just felt rushed this entire time, it felt like they wanted us out the door as soon as possible. Personally, when I go out to dinner I like to relax, and this was the opposite. I checked the time when we finished and paid - we had literally only been there for 25 minutes. Not the dining experience we were hoping for. Cocktails were fine. Edamame was cold, which I really didn't like. That's on me though, because I later realized it was under the "cold" section. Very strange in my opinion. Peanut noodles were mediocre, and I've had better pad Thai for half the price. My friend barely touched the peanut noodles and the server asked if they could swap it out for something else. My friend asked if they could just take it off the bill, to which they said no. They can only swap out. Well, none of the food was good, so we weren't really interested in that. I have been a loyal regular customer to PingPong since 2018. Last night I came in late around 9:30 for dinner went to use the unisex bathroom before sitting down and left my CannonG7x camera in there. My friend and I were one of the few tables there and not once during my dinner did a customer go back to the restroom. However, there was a female employee my friend saw come out of same restroom I was using where the camera was left. Once I realized I did not have my camera quickly upon leaving I returned to the restaurant to look and was told that they have no security cameras. My camera was absolutely stolen from an employee. It is not just the fact that the camera was stolen, but I am battling breast cancer and have very sensitive photos and videography on the camera that capture my cancer journey. I feel violated having this stolen from an employee at the restaurant. I called today and offered $1000 to have my camera returned to me because of the nature of what is on it and loosing 3 years of photos and was told now all of a sudden there is a security camera and that probably a customer from out of town stole it and wont return it. No one else used this restroom that I saw in my clear view. I even have a photo I am attaching of my camera in the restroom. After over seven years of coming to this establishment spending thousands of dollars to have a camera stolen by the staff and not returned after offering $1000 no questions asked I am appalled. I will never be returning to this restaurant and I HIGHLY suggest you take your business elsewhere if this is how they treat loyal customers by stealing. I have filed a police report since because they refuse to let me speak with owners. read more

My boyfriend had a Resy credit and this place is nearby so we decided to try it. The place is small and the tables are so close together, it was pretty uncomfortable especially with winter jackets. I thought the food was generally okay and nothing special. We did like the crab rangoons. The Singapore noodles had a nice flavor but I wasn't a huge fan of the noodles themselves. Maybe it was our mistake for ordering this dish, but the salt and pepper chicken was honestly pretty bad. It used chicken breast and the pieces were so large and dry. It was also overall bland for a dish that I feel like is supposed to be pretty salty/savory and flavorful. The Thai tea was good but I feel like that's hard to mess up. I think the prices weren't too bad though and the portion size was decent. Overall, I would probably not come back here and wouldn't recommend especially if you're looking for more authentic Asian food. read more

Came here for dinner last night for NYE. It's a smaller restaurant so I definitely recommend making a reservation if you can (Resy). We had the honey glazed chicken which was very good, similar to teriyaki chicken. I would've liked it more if it also came with some veggies, but nonetheless still good. For an appetizer we had the chicken spring rolls which were very big and came with a sweet and sour type sauce to dip. They had dim lighting so good date night spot. It's probably not actually china, but all the serving bowls side plates and even the coffee cups are just lovely. It's a delightful little bonus. The servers are always in kimono-like outfits. And they are sweet and soft spoken. My favorite part is always the chocolate dipped fortune cookies at the very end. Again, just a special added touch that elevates your dining experience. Both were very good, but the Calamari was the highlight of the night. I had the Ping Pong chicken as my main course, with a side of brown rice. Flavor from the chicken was great, but I especially loved all the cashews in the dish. I highly recommend a family style so that you can try a bit of everything. The serving portions are also quite big. Service was very fast and friendly. I just think they need to cool it on trying to clear the tables so quickly. I heart Ping Pong! What an absolutely adorable neighborhood spot. I met a friend here on a rainy Monday evening and it was the perfect ambiance. The interior is adorable, and because Ping Pong is slightly on the higher end when it comes to meals, the ambiance really matched that. Our server was so. sweet!! We started with a bottle of prosecco, edamame, and crispy chicken rolls. The edamame is served cold which was unique, but I ended up really enjoying. The crispy chicken rolls is really what impressed me though. They were bursting with flavor and crunch, and were served with a delicious thai chili sauce sauce as well as a creamy wasabi. SO YUM! We split entrees and went off our servers recommendations of the firecracker chicken and the pan seared egg noodles. The servings were large but not overwhelmingly so. The egg noodles had the perfect crispiness and were served with vegetables and chicken. The firecracker chicken had a nice kick, but nothing too intense. The white rice was cooked with sesame oil which gave it a really nice flavor without being overpowering. Everything about the evening was just lovely. We didn't have a reservation, but I recommend making one so you won't have to wait because the restaurant is fairly small. Immediately we were greeted by really friendly staff and were impressed by the fun decor and feel of the restaurant. Once seated, we were handed a warm towel and complementary shrimp chips (so good!). Their cocktail menu is very unique and fun so we got the ginger martini (delicious) and the tiger's blood cocktail (strong but good). We also ordered the drunken noodles and Singapore noodles -- both full of flavor and big portions.
