I am shipping a bike to #1 son in ohio. I was struggling to get the pedal off one side. I follow RCR on IG and wanted to pay them a visit figuring they would have the correct tool. Parked the whip right in front (parking Car-ma:-). The place is a buzz of activity. This local business is very tied and involved in the local community. Discounts for locals! It took a whole 30 seconds for the gent who helped me to find the right tool. The brother helping me explained the pedals were threaded opposite of normal. Which was very helpful once I got home and got busy. Making sure I wasn't tightening the darn thang it came if in 20 seconds.. darn it! I spent 45 minutes trying to get that sucka off prior! I brought my daughter here to see if we could purchase the missing piece she need for her seat. The place was well maintained for a bike shop, they had a variety of new bikes and what seemed to be a organized spare parts area with tools. The two gentlemen that was in the shop Tay and Najari (please forgive if misspelled) were GREAT! Tay assisted my daughter while Najari showed me bikes that would fit me. They both educated us on bike maintenance and safety. My experience with them was wonderful, it wasn't about the money but it was all about relationship building for them. They have a community bike ride on Sundays and on Thursdays they have time set aside for the community to come in and ask questions or just work on their bikes. I had a flat tire on my daily rider. I couldn't get the quick release open to pull the wheel off to fix it myself, so I thought I'd get some help at the Rich City bike shop nearby. I was gobsmacked at the price. They charged $50 for an hour of labor (it couldn't have taken but 5-10 minutes) plus $10 for the new tube. $60 total for a tire change is absurd. Plus, the quick release broke and I had to get another. I won't be back and wouldn't recommend this place. read more

This non-profit, community-oriented bike shop is a real gem. It's January 3rd, and my kids wanted to go on a ride. Opened up the garage after a long winter to discover that some minor repairs and parts are necessary to their bikes. This is just one of the many benefits Rich City Rides provides me. They have a great location across MacDonald from Richmond BART/Amtrak. Really helpful for bike commuters (the best people on the planet). There's a nice selection of cool used or vintage bikes that I perused while getting a brake cable and lever installed. What you have here is a win win scenario. 1. Everything stated by "Samantha F." is a highly inaccurate represententation of Rich-City Rides. I have ridden with these dedicated guys on bike parties numerous times and know that whatever material they are selling at the shop has not been stolen but donated by friends from all over the East Bay because I've witnessed it occuring plenty of times. Instead of selling stolen bicycles, they actually help people find their stolen bikes! I believe that Rich-City Rides was established in 2011 as a nonprofit organization and I have seen them various times at public events doing community service such as bike parking as well as hosting bicycle repair stations at events - kudos for that. Secondly, they dedicate a lot of their time to repairing bicycle within a reasonable AND negotiable price range and even helped me decide in to not to buying a brand new bike but to build one using the parts that were donated to them. The bike that I built has all the necessary paperwork to prove that it has not been stolen and I would like to say that I use it as my means of transportation to get to school and have never had any sort of major issue (excluding flat tires, of course) with it since I bought it in August 2013. Finally I'd like to say that I purchased my bicycle not knowing a whole lot about repairing/upgrading it but the staff at Rich-City Rides was so friendly that they also taught me how to do basic maintenance/repairs for my ride whenever I am away from home. They are an honest business in downtown Richmond and I would highly recommend them if you are in the area. read more

After a recommendation from my sisters boyfriend, I finally visited Rich City Rides to help me with my bike. I have a road bike thats really good, but I don't know anything about it. I'm used to cruisers and mountain bikes, and this bike is definitely a change and a little overwhelming. I was considering trading it in for a different bike. I was helped by two gentlemen, one named Joe, and another who's name I forget (SO sorry!). Both were very knowledgeable and each had different opinions on what I should do, but neither was pushy or overwhelming. They were very kind to an obvious novice and did not make me feel stupid. In the end, I decided to keep my bike and make a few of the suggested changes to it. And when I'm ready, I will come right back to Rich City for those improvements. As a Richmond resident, it's great to have local run business that are active in the community. Not only does Rich City provide affordable bikes, they also provide free workshops on Fridays, Community rides, etc. (This was all told to me in store). Fate brought me here twice this week. First time was to donate my old bike with broken break cables, and second time was to fix the flat of my new bike. I was impressed with the fast service, the modest price and the friendly staff. They made the whole experience smooth and I am glad to see the excellent work they did to both my old and new bikes, and I hope the future owner of my old bike will have as much fun with the it as I did. Came across Rich City Rides and discovered yet another hidden treasure in Richmond. I had an older Trek mountain bike was in great condition, just completely unused. I discovered that I could donate my bike to this great local non-profit and get a bike that I actually enjoyed riding. I first got a great older bianchi that I rode all over the area discovering the great bike trails that we have....one day I was in the shop and looked up into the rafters and saw the body of my dream bike - a 1970's Raleigh. A little beat up but beautiful to me. The staff cleaned it up - rebuilt it and I'm now riding a wonderful old Raleigh! Besides the great service they provided for me they also provide a great service to the community. The youth in the shop learn to work on bikes and do a wonderful job. I'm thrilled that the kids are learning and loving it. Engaged youth are happy youth - happy youth creates strong community! read more

First time ever doing a Review, I just had to give a Review on the only Bike Shop in downtown Richmond! I have to say I love this Place, they helped me in picking out the right bike for me, and I also did a couple of workshops here on how to maintenance my bike for FREE!!! Awesome Programs they do with the youth and Families too! KEEP AT IT RICH CITY Rides!!! I see that there are one or two bad reviews, and honestly I would not pay attention to those reviews, them seem just plain mean and lies! No bike shop sells tubes for 3 bucks unless your getting them wholesale! (yes, even kenda!) it Does not smell like cigarettes at all, I would have smelled that, I've been there for hours working on my bike! Anyways, You should check out if you have the time and deciding to get into the bike life. read more

Rich City Rides is awesome. Every time I go in the shop the staff is always friendly and helpful. You can tell they also really know what they're doing. The store has a good selection of bikes and gear, including some used bikes... they also hold community workshops once or twice a week where you can learn to repair / maintain your ride. Convenient location right by the Richmond Bart /bus stops for people coming from other parts of the bay. So glad this place exists. read more

Have seen that this bike shop has cool programs for the youth and its awesome, they should.. but as an actual bike shop.. it was the worst in my experience:/ Took my bike for a very simple break adjustment because of lack of time. Firstly, it took the shop 2 whole days to get to my bike.. maybe understaffed? I thought ok it's fine. But when I finally got my bike, sent my cousin to pick up, they charged him 30 bucks and the bikes were setup horribly. Yeah they worked, but now my wheels were so tight with the breaks, my bike would stop almost instantly after I started pealing-___-. I will write a full review after I am able to go to this shop for the first time. We are a small family of three trying our bikes for the first time this weekend. In testing my bike and the gears my husband somehow managed to get the bike chain stuck in between the frame and pedal crank. It seems impossible to get it out from being jammed without a crank pully or something. Anyway, I read the one star review that is based on all kinds of "assuming". It sounds like this person did not even spend one dime and got a lot of advice for free. I hate the crime that is reported here in Richmond, I really do. I feel that it is getting better though, I really do. There is theft of bikes everywhere and I truly believe that this shop has NOTHING to do with bike theft! People who sell stolen bikes, now that is another issue. I wanted to sell to a shop once. I bought a bike from Craig's List and just did not end up wanting it. I bought it from a lady in Oakland! Are you going to assume that I just bought a STOLEN bike and then sold it to this shop? Okay, that is wrong but really, that would be on me....not the shop that bought it. In fact, it would not be on me it would be on the lady who sold it to me....or WAIT, she bought it from someone else. So, where did this bike come from? Also, the first place cops will go to in order to see if a bike is being sold is the bike shops in town. The serial numbers are engraved on the bikes, if not....well, you know it probably got taken off....now THAT is obvious. Still, not obvious that the bike shop had anything to do with the serial number being taken off. Anyway, get some real facts before writing a review. Nigari (unsure about spelling my apologies), the owner, is very kind, accomodating, knowledgeable without any pretense and when I asked for cheapest repair possible I got exactly that. Nobody should come to this place. They are very misleading about their used bike policy. They didn't have a sign saying no refunds for used bikes. One of the guys spent all day talking about how cheap Target bikes are. When I bought the bike I wanted to return it . Then they told me that they already told me there is a no-refund policy . Not only were the bikes misleading, one of the the employees lied to me. They never told me anything about no refunds. They only talked about how Target and Walmart sell cheap bikes. They also have terrible customer service. The guy on the phone said he can replace one of my tires for only $70. When I came to the bike shop the employee told me they can fix the whole tire for $ 150 instead. I will never come to this place and I hope to God no one else does. They stole my cash and they'll steal yours too. I might sue them in the future. read more

I just got back from the repair clinic that they have on Fridays in Unity Park Community Plaza and was greeted and helped with absolute professionalism and competence. I wasn't sure what the issue was with my gears but after a thorough assessment, minor adjustment and lube I was set and on my way. What a great service to the community to increase and advocate for more bicycling in Richmond and the surrounding the towns. And right near the bike path - what could be better and more convenient? I am a returning customer. I was shopping for tires for my road bike. I was given options and concluded that the tires I wanted would not fit my bike after lengthy discussion. I was given the option to buy the tires and mount them myself to save the cost of labor. I have also gone back to have some tweeks done on my bike and my wife's. Rich City is a casual community bike shop and I plan to continue taking my bike back as needed while I save up for a hybrid bike. read more

It is a wonderful bike shop that loves to help people, especially children. They have fix it Friday and will stay a little late to keep you riding on your bike. The actually are true to one of their statements " It takes a village to raise a child" and have even helped me out by picking up my child from school when he didn't have his bike to get home.
