This company is a scam. Do yourself a favor and go with another contractor you can trust who will not try to lie to you to get your business. I found this company based on all the wonderful Yelp reviews to tune up my old gas furnace- something I do every year before the winter season to ensure optimal maintenance. They came out and immediately refused to do the service citing possible asbestos tape. I asked how this was possible when the last 15 years I've gotten service and have even asked the contractors to do a visual inspection of my system. They weren't sure but said that another employee in the area can come look and give me an estimate for a new system. I thought this was shady and it turns out, I was 100% right. They came later that day and quoted me $26K for a new system not including subcontracting to get the asbestos removed (another $1500). I was told and shown pictures that there was evidence of the same tape inside the duct work. I was told I would get these pictures sent to me with along with the estimate but never received any of them. I got someone to come out and test a sample of said material for $100 which did come out positive for asbestos. However the only asbestos that presented any harm was the tape on the outside of the system. There was no asbestos inside but it was recommended that I do more expensive air testing since Perfect Star said I would not be able to use my heater without the asbestos getting released into the air. Not only was this stressful to hear right before the cold weather, but I was very concerned that over the last decade I had inadvertently put my whole families health in danger using this furnace. Meanwhile, Raymond Kinder texted me a few days later to find out if I was going to move forward with the new unit. I told him asbestos removal was my priority. His response via text was "if they remove asbestos, you will not be able to run that furnace as the gases will not be vented out properly." This was not true. After several weeks of not using my heater and exploring other options to deal with a pretend problem they created for me, I went with Air Quality Testing who charged $540 for an air test. $640 later along with having no use of my heater, I learned that there is no asbestos running through my air or ducts. Perfect Star literally lied to me in order to attempt to get me to drop nearly $30,000 on a new system. Stay away from this company! They do not deserve your business for lying to their customers. read more

Wonderful experience so far. Our heater stopped working and our house was 50 degrees. Perfect Star came out the same day and fixed it within minutes. It turns out a sensor just needed to be cleaned. I know this sounds like a small thing, but in the past two years we have paid a different company a lot of money to replace parts and duct work to try and get the system to work better. Unfortunately, the system has only gotten worse. Every time the other company came out, they were always focused on us replacing expensive parts. Perfect star is the first and only company that took the time to show me and explain what was going on. They suggested a maintenance plan to clean the unit and avoid problems like this. Hallelujah!! Trust the one stars. Terrible. Hands down worst experience I've had as a homeowner. Had them replace my old HVAC system with a heat pump. big job, not cheap. got multiple quotes, theirs was the lowest-and now I know why. * Straight up LIED to me about cost of service. If you get Gilbert as a salesperson, walk away. Poked his head into my attic, promised he knew what was happening. Got my quote, signed the papers. * The team arrives to install and then says "hey, it doesn't work the way Gilbert thought it did. It's 20% more." 20% more on an HVAC system is A LOT. But we needed the system (young family, burning up in the heat), and they already TOOK THE OLD SYSTEM APART. So we were stuck and just went with it. * felt like robbery. intentionally low quote to underbid/beat competition, took my existing system apart, then threw up their hands and said "20% more or walk." What's more: THEY COULDN'T GET IT RIGHT. They came back (no exaggeration, I have the appointment emails) 10 TIMES in a 2 MONTH PERIOD because THEY COULDN'T GET IT RIGHT. System DIDN'T WORK out of the damn box for this or that reason. I had a revolving door of techs come through to look at it, try some bs and not fix it. Other reviewers are right: the techs are all "nice guys," but when you can't fix the effing system YOU INSTALLED that's BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX then I don't care how nice you are. They also installed an ugly ass line cover that runs on the outside of my house up to the attic WITHOUT ASKING ME. on one of 10 visits they just decided to do it and put it up without asking. desperate to find any solution that will work. shouldn't make changes to the EXTERIOR of my house without asking. lastly: you can't get a hold of anyone in the damn office. receptionists are all "nice" but when you need help with something specific, they are ghosts. Couldn't get a hold of "Janet" to wrap up permitting if my life depended on it (calling 3 per day). but you better believe they will call you EVERY DAY if there's some payment thing to sort out. this has been a long time coming. the thing that put me over the edge: assholes TEXTING ME ASKING ME TO GIVE THEM A VOTE AS BEST IN THE BAY FOR SFGATE. this company is a joke. the only reason they are even getting business is the relentless mailers they put out AND the lying on bids. easy to "beat the competition" when you undercut everyone on paper, then jack up rates when the chips are down. i have an ancient propane gas furnace (circa 1990) which was malfunctioning. It was blowing cold air while set to "heat". An appointment was set for 16:00 to 18:00. Preston arrived a quarter after and went straight to work, testing the leads, checking the thermostat, making sure the electricity worked and so forth. Then after the furnace was reset, it worked. Apparently the many brownouts we get in Oakley did something to the circuit board and it works now. Very professional and knowledgeable. (thumbs up) read more

Unfortunately, this has been a very disappointing experience. We have paid for two separate service visits to fix our AC and heater on both upstairs and downstairs. Both times, only the upstairs was fixed, leaving the same issue unresolved despite full payment. When I tried to explain this, the technician was dismissive and closed the door and left while I was still speaking, which was extremely unprofessional. When I called the office, the representative was initially understanding. However, once I said that my concern should be shared with a manager or supervisor, her tone changed and I was accused of being rude, instead of being helped. A professional company should be able to handle dissatisfied customers with respect and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. I had an amazing experience with Perfect Star Heating, Cooling, & Electrical. Elvin: Met with me to go over my HVAC options and broke down the pros and cons of the different systems. Elvin was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, and was very accommodating when I had an appointment overlap. Austin, Tyler, & Cesar: They were an amazing team. My installation window was from 8-10am and they arrived at 8:03am. They introduced themselves and got straight to work. I had a few questions throughout the process and Austin, while working hard, answered every single one. They were thorough and careful moving everything around while removing the old system and installing the new one. Austin even build a base for the unit because it came with a cabinet for the filter, which was amazing because the old way of changing my filter was a pain! I have to update my original review. The team and technician are friendly and professional. However, I shouldn't have hired them because they don't work on wall heaters. The 3rd contractor who came and looked at the issue said the thermostat needed to be replaced. So, I hired Perfect Star to do that. (4th contractor) But, it stopped working a week later. I called Perfect Star because I thought I had a leak in the line leaving the condensation pump. Nick, the tech they sent out, was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He was able to quickly determine that it was not the condensation line and then went went above and beyond to help figure out where the water was coming from. We hired Perfect Star to add an AC unit to our existing furnace, which was in great condition. However, they convinced us to replace the furnace as well and pay additional costs for a new unit and labor, claiming removal was necessary anyway for the AC installation. On installation day, they delivered and installed a different AC unit than what we had agreed upon, stating the original unit was "discontinued." After consulting an independent HVAC expert, we confirmed the agreed-upon unit was not discontinued and demanded they replace it with what was promised and paid for (dishonesty). Towards the end of installation, their team lead informed us he had fired the two installers because they had started their own company and some conflict of interest. Shortly after, the team lead stopped answering our calls entirely. We later learned from Chris that our point of contact had left the company without notifying us (Poor customer service). Chris eventually brought the correct AC unit. When we raised concerns about the new system being louder than our previous one, he provided vague explanations about air collection placement, something like they should have changed the location, but offered no solutions (poor work). Despite replacing a fully functional furnace, they left the old filter housing in place, making it nearly impossible to find compatible filters. Months ago, we contacted Chris to replace the filter; he quoted $95 but ignored the message, and never followed up to schedule the work (poo customer service). In February, we discovered that one of the pipes (could not air intake or exhaust) had become disconnected in our dedicated furnace closet. There was no external cause for this. Had it been the exhaust pipe, it could have resulted in carbon monoxide exposure and a life-threatening situation. We messaged Chris, who ignored us again. When we called the company expressing urgency, they said they would send someone "right away" but did not send anyone until the following day. In the meantime, we had to hire a third party to confirm it was the air intake and not the exhaust before their technician arrived. We tolerated the cold with their delayed response (horrible customer service) Recently, we paid $115 (not the originally quoted $95) to have them change the filter - and we provided the exact filter they had recommended too. After the technician left, we discovered the filter did not cover the entire housing opening. We messaged the technician, but he ignored us as well. Overall, our experience with Perfect Star has been consistently negative, marked by poor workmanship, dishonest upselling, and unprofessional, unresponsive customer service. We have spent additional time and money consulting other professionals to verify or fix their work. We absolutely do not recommend this company. read more

Our experience with Perfect Star was very poor when we renovated our house. We had a licensed HVAC engineer review the initial quotes. The suggested furnace was oversized for our house and it seemed that Perfect Star had this furnace at hand and wanted to install it not because it was the best choice for our house but because they had it available. Perfect Star actually recognized that the furnace was wrong for our house after an internal review. We had an air intake duct that was perfectly cut into our floor. Perfect Star told us we would need a bigger intake and cut a hole in the floor with an ugly grid. We pushed back and then learned that the intake was big enough after they ran a few more calculations. Our HVAC engineer also designed the ducts. The Perfect Star crew did not install the ducts according to his specifications with the result that one part of our house does not get enough airflow and stays cold in winter. We have to have a radiator in that room. I've asked multiple times to correct this and have been told that an inspector would need to come out for $115. We had a BESO consultant come out as that's required by the city and she looked at the ductwork and insulation and let it pass but gave it a B. Some ducts were squeezed into places that might impact airflow. Prior to install, we had the asbestos pipes removed by a service we chose. They did not remove the asbestos from the actual ducts (this is a 1924 house) and the Perfect Star crew that came to install the system saw it and still installed the ducts without telling us. A bunch of Asbestos dust fell into the ducts. It took a lot of phone calls for them to stop the install and have the asbestos company come back to fix it so they could do a SAFE install for everybody involved incl. their own crew who were actually scared working on it. I think if we didn't have our own HVAC expert who knew how to design a proper system for our house, we would have ended up with a furnace too big and too loud but probably never thought about it and taken it as a given. read more

I've always been able to get an appointment the same day. When something goes wrong with your HVAC system, you want same day service. Their technicians have been great. My most recent experience was with Elvin Geronimo. Wow. He has tons of experience, education, certifications, and knows HVAC and electrical. He is considerate, professional, knowledgable, articulate, and efficient. He was here for 2.5 hours to research my existing equipment and house layout. He was meticulous about checking my HVAC equipment, took over 50 photos to document everything, and explained how the HVAC system worked. He solved a mystery that another company had not, that's because he is smart and detail-oriented. He submitted an estimate the next day and followed up to ask if I had questions. I highly recommend Perfect Star. They may not be the least expensive, but they offer superior quality and expertise. read more

I would not recommend this company. They are SO expensive. They came out and said it would be $210.00 do diagnose the problem. All I needed was help switching out a thermostat on the wall. They said they could do it for $457.00, plus $210.00 (total of $667.00!) for something he said would take 30 minutes. When I asked if they could just reinstall the old thermostat, he said it would be $350.00 (total of $560.00) just to reinstall something that would take no more than 15 minutes to put back on the wall. That may be the highest I've ever been charged for a simple service. read more

Purchased a home with a 20 yr old furnace and a 30 yr old AC compressor (even though the house is only 20 yrs old, I know rite??l). Enter Perfect Star's direct mail advertisement flyer. After going through the holidays with a loud blowing furnace that doesn't efficiently heat the house evenly, the mailer was the perfect catalyst to get the process going of upgrading my HVAC system. I submitted an online inquiry on January 13th. Paul came over for a consultation January 17th. The team got started on the job on January 20th. The team finished the job, cleaned up, and departed the next day. I now have a new heat pump, air purification system, two-zone heating and cooling, and the noise level has been reduced so dramatically I cant believe the system is even on. The indoor climate is so incredibly balanced I'm now rethinking my plans for radiant floor heating. I'm asking the team to return for some electrical upgrades, thanks Perfect Star!! read more

I had a really disappointing experience. The technician charged me a $115 "show-up fee" and then gave me an estimate of $258 for the repair. I looked up the part myself and found out it was only $15. When I asked him about it, he suddenly changed the price to $300 and still didn't provide any receipt, invoice, or warranty. The whole thing felt dishonest and unprofessional. I had a mixed experience with Perfect Star. I reached out because my AC breaker kept tripping. I was ready to replace the AC system, but based on their recommendation, I went ahead with a costly full electrical panel and subpanel upgrade. Unfortunately, that didn't resolve the issue, and I ended up needing to replace the AC anyway, something I had been prepared to do from the beginning. The new AC unit also arrived with a dented panel and visible coil damage, which was disappointing. To their credit, they did send technicians out multiple times to address it. They replaced the panel and attempted to repair the coil fins. While the system is now working fine, the result still didn't quite match the "brand-new" quality I expected. I could sense some frustration from the company toward the end, maybe I came across as a difficult customer. But from my side, I went with Perfect Star over other options because I wanted a professional experience and high standards. I was just holding them up to their "Perfect Star Guarantee". I wanted the job done right, without repeated visits or lingering damage. In the end, they did offer a small credit, which I appreciated. They worked to make it right, and I respect that, but the process took more time and follow-up than it should have. If you're considering using them, make sure you're completely confident in the diagnosis before proceeding, and inspect the installation closely when it's done. read more
