This dentist isn't that nice. If you are looking for a dentist that cares for you as a patient, look for a different doctor.

The work done was fine, although he hugely underestimated the time it would take. Very odd personality. Not for me.

Having a painful crown experience with the Brand X dentist, I was apprehensive about my first root canal. From the jump, ALL Dr Wittenauer's office, tech staff, and dental assistants were welcoming and very cognizant of a patient's apprehension with the old joke about root canals. This is a procedure where you want a specialist, an Endodontist requires an extra two years of specialized training above a general DDS, with the specialized training equipment, and staff who do these procedures all day with a rhythm between the staff and closed loop feedback between the patient that puts even the most apprehensive at ease. The old technique of doctors using verbal distraction when undergoing uncomfortable procedures is often centered on subjects like the weather, vacations, etc. Dr Wittenauer actually reviews in detail your personal info paperwork before he gets to work and keeps you engaged or quiet--your preference. Updates on how many minutes longer, what to expect, we're done--helped a lot, especially when you're in your mid-seventies like me, and a little anxious. Being an old shop teacher, I appreciated his meticulous work area with his specialized tools and equipment, and his dexterous technique in determining the best path to save my existing crown and tooth, while smoothly removing and "filing" material. His placement of hands, wires, and equipment always put patient comfort first, no dragging stuff across your body, dangling wires, dripping discharges, etc. Sunglasses to dim the glare of exam lights, and mouth "dams" to keep that gritty crap out of your mouth, I'm sure were his unique and effective developments from patient feedback. Also the digital xrays showing the before and after pics on a front centered monitor displayed the super smooth and gently shaped canals after the procedure. Any small "tweaks" to the bite and alignment were handled precisely with xrays, not just eyeballing it or settling for good enough. If I had to guess, he took a shop class in high school and got and "A"--a true craftsman. In summary, if your general dentist says that you need a root canal and wants to do it himself, take it under advisement and RUN to Dr Wittenauer. His calming atmosphere and demeanor, and NO PAIN procedure should allay your fears. His protocol of a personal followup call, and not assigning it to a staff member, on the day of the procedure was also much appreciated--not the norm of my other medical providers. Five days later-- no after effects except total pain relief. It was like flipping a light switch; walk in with pain, walk out pain free. One of his catch phrases heard more than once (my paraphrase) was getting that irritation and pain out of your life and getting back on track to normal. If this is your goal, he's your guy.

I came in dealing with a very difficult and painful situation, and Dr. Buoncristiani helped me when I needed it most. His skill, attention to detail, and genuine care were obvious from the very beginning. He took the time to explain in detail what to expect, made sure everything was done correctly, made me feel comfortable. Furthermore he treated me like a person, not just another patient. You can see he takes tremendous pride in his work and cares about your dental health and the outcome It's rare to find someone who combines this level of expertise with kindness and compassion. I'm extremely grateful for what he did for me and would recommend him without hesitation to anyone needing an endodontist. Dr. Buoncristiani turned a stressful situation into a positive experience. After a consult a few months ago I came in for the root canal and was slightly nervous since it's been a while and I generally don't like anyone messing with my teeth, but his staff did great calming me down and assuring me the procedure is routine and indeed necessary. Once the doc got started I remembered why I came here I didn't feel a thing and he was very sure handed and great with finishing the procedure quickly. I highly recommend Dr. John and his staff they are great at what they do.

For six months I dealt with sensitivity, mainly triggered by hot and cold. I could eat and chew just fine as long as I started chewing on my left side first. Last May, I spoke with my dentist, had X-rays taken, and he told me I'd eventually need a root canal. He didn't give me any other solutions, so I just waited to see if things would get worse. Six months later, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Gharib's office because the sensitivity was getting to me (even though it was on and off), and I started feeling pain up my cheek. I was worried about potentially having an infection or, even worse, an abscess. Christine at the front desk was so kind and accommodating. It was easy to schedule an appointment. She told me that Dr. Gharib is very conservative and only recommends procedures when absolutely necessary. I figured that was just something she said to everyone. At my appointment, I had X-rays done and reviewed them with Dr. Gharib. He was very kind, soft-spoken, and answered my many (many) questions while listening intently to my concerns. I did not feel rushed at all--I felt like I was actually being heard. After his examination, he didn't see any infection on the X-ray, but it did show a slight fracture in the pulp cap filling, which could be the cause of the heightened sensitivity. He didn't pressure me to do a cone beam scan or even suggest it; I personally requested it because I wanted to be absolutely sure there wasn't an infection at the root, since that would make a root canal necessary. The cone beam scan confirmed I had no infection whatsoever--thank goodness. He sat with me for a long while discussing what I could do to help the sensitivity and the slight fracture. He said it might be as simple as replacing the filling with an inlay or onlay, but since my pulp cap is very close to the nerve, that carries the risk of needing a root canal if it fails. He suggested trying Sensodyne for a few weeks and then having my dentist check whether an inlay or onlay, to replace the filling, is an option. There's a chance that might fix the problem. After my appointment, I felt so much more at ease. I was relieved that I didn't have an infection and grateful that I actually had options before committing to a root canal. Dr. Gharib even wrote me a long email afterward, reiterating everything we talked about. That, right there, is a dentist who truly cares. If and when I ever need a root canal, I'll be going to Dr. Gharib. He is professional, honest, thorough, and welcomes ALL questions. All the positive reviews you've read are true. Not every dentist cares like this!
