I have a solid gold initial ring that I received 60 years ago as a teenager. The initials have been worn off a couple of time and I was always able to have it redone when I lived in Texas. The store my parents bought it from had it redone at no cost. Now that i'm in Albany, I took it to a local jeweler who has been around for over 40 years in downtown. He said he would have to sent it to someone in California to get it redone and would cost about $750. He was going to verify and get back to me to confirm the price. I waited for about a week and went back in to see him. He said he forgot and i took the ring back. I found Gretz on the internet, called and drover over. They were amazing!!! I left my ring and picked it up 3 days later. It was brand new!!!! I couldn't believe it! Cost - $250, and the ladies i dealt with were totally awesome. I highly recommend Gretz. Had a really depressing situation I had to deal with. I had to have hand surgery and so had to have my 4 gold Hawaiian bangles cut off. Have had them on between 15 and 28 years. They were a part of me! They took the time to help me get them off in a way that can hopefully be repaired. I came here to get a second opinion on needed repairs to my wedding rings. While having them cleaned at another store they told me that I needed a total of 34 prongs between the two rings "retipped." It would take 2 weeks and cost $800!! Gretz told me I only needed a total of 24 prongs retipped, they could do it in 1 week and cost $188. Their jaws dropped when I told them the estimate I got from the other store. Corvallis is a pretty small town with four independent jewelry stores all within a block of each other, so it must be very competitive, but the drastic difference between the prices makes me feel like the other store was really taking advantage of me. read more

Recently I had the setting come off of a ring I have worn steadily for the last 14 years. It was given to me by my father, so it is extra special to me. I knew it was purchased at the store. When I went in, I was told it was made there and it would be repaired at no charge and it would be repaired so that this would not happen again. It looks wonderful! Okay, this is kind of a long one... I'm not one to get custom jewelry (nor one to buy much jewelry), but when my fiance and I started looking at engagement rings I don't think I could have been luckier at finding Richard's store. I had read online about finding a jeweler you can trust, but really, how can you know until you've worked with somebody personally? So worried as I was, the reason why I chose Richard was based on his website. It was very straight forward, honest and descriptive. I especially liked that it isn't advertised that they buy gold and things like that, I felt that other jewelers who did that seemed cheap and "pawn-shoppy." After looking at pictures of rings from their site I went in with an idea of exactly what I wanted. Our budget was low (and I mean pretty low), in the less than $3,000 range, so naturally I was a little worried that going to a professional jeweler and having a custom ring wouldn't be possible. Wrong! Richard didn't bat an eye and helped us stay under budget but still get exactly what we wanted. He recommended the type of diamond we should get that would look the same as a slightly more expensive one (to the naked eye), but was about $500 or so cheaper. After a little more talking and drawing out a ring we left to discuss everything before we went along with the process. Our next appt came a month or so later. Lucky for us, my future mother-in-law had a ring that she graciously gave to us so we could use the diamond. When we went back to Richard he said that he could use the diamond, buy the band from the original ring and put it towards the payment of the ring we were making. So after looking at a couple more rings in the store for inspiration, my fiance and I both saw one that we immediately loved. After a couple changes through Richard's drawings, we had designed my engagement ring! I have to say, it was nothing like I originally wanted, but love this ring so much more! The design process was very interesting. We put down a deposit to start the process and within 2 weeks or so we were able to go in together to see a wax mold of the ring. I could try it on, we placed the diamond on it. it looked exactly like the drawing Richard had made, except that it was wax. Once we approved the wax copy, my fiance was able to pick up the final product a week or so after that. Everything moved much faster than I thought. He paid off the rest of the ring when he picked it up. One thing I was worried about that I didn't realize until after my fiance proposed was about leaving your diamond with a jeweler. I read a couple horror stories about them being replaced with a less valuable diamond, things like that. I never once thought that Richard would do something like that(I always felt he was very trustworthy), but once an idea's in your head, you can't help but think it. To put my mind at ease I had our ring appraised and not to my surprise, our ring was worth every penny that I expected (and then some!) I get compliments on my ring all the time, even when I go back to have it cleaned! I always tell people where I went for it and I've met other women who've gone to Richard and love his work as well! We're going back soon to have our wedding bands made and I am very excited for that. I never thought I'd care about a ring so much, but having it designed together with my fiance made it all the more special. Richard helped make this process easy, fun and I definitely feel like we got our money's worth and didn't get ripped off.
