I just came in today to see about them working on two pairs of my glasses. One needed new nose pieces, the other one's arm was misaligned. Even though I didn't have an appointment, they let me in so I really appreciated that. Anyway they called me back an hour later, said they replaced the nose pieces with new silicone pieces for only $10, and the other one they said they could ship out for a full repair of $75. That was a bit steep for me so I was fine with just paying for the nose pieces. So I go back in to pick them up, and besides the new silicone nose pieces, they ended up doing a basic repair on the other one too, free of charge! They also provided me with some simple plastic eyeglass cases as well as two cloth wipes, also free! All in all only paid $10. Really appreciate their service, and that even though I didn't opt for the full repair, they at least worked on them to straighten out the arm. Thanks so much! read more

I really hate writing these types of reviews, but I think it's important for my everyone to know what's happening. I'm also hoping the doctors read these reviews. We have been patients of Dr. Joyce FOREVER. We moved to Benicia in 1994, and I believe he's been our only eye doctor since. He never rushes and always takes the time to answer questions. Everything you would hope from an eye doctor. The staff has always been competent and the sales people just on the verge of being pushy, but that's the job so no worries. I made an appointment for Friday August 11th at 1pm. Cathy from the office even called to confirm on Wednesday August 9th. I took time off work and showed up at 12:55pm to discover that the office was closed. Turns out they are closed from 12-1:30pm. I knocked on the door and a woman opened the door and said they were closed. I showed her a transcript of the message from Cathy and offered to let her listen to the call. SHE DIDN'T CARE. Did she say, "I'm sorry for the confusion?" NO. Did she offer to let me sit and wait? NO. She closed the door as quickly as she could. Great way to treat a LONG TIME customer. I couldn't wait and had to leave. No one from the office called to apologize for the mistake or set another appointment. They don't care. Dr. Joyce, if you read this please know that Miguel, Dana, and Brandon Colon will miss getting to see you every year. read more

Purchased glasses from Dr Joyce a few years ago, and that was pleasant enough. Today I went in to ask for help with my daughter's glasses - glasses not purchased from Dr. Joyce. And they were extremely helpful and pleasant, adjusted (i.e. fixed) them for me, on the spot, for free. I'm a fan. I'll be back. read more

Large selection of glasses. Convenient location. Adequate staffing. My only issue was the customer service and wait time. My glasses took over one month to come in, which would not have been a problem had they told me in advance or placed a follow up call. I had to call at least 4 times to get a delivery date. First call was never returned either. To many optometry options with better follow up customer service to come back here again. If you're in a rush for glasses go elsewhere! read more

I had excellent customer service from their stylists/opticians, most notably Marleny Taotua. I had issues with my frames (which were fine: just not a good fit for my face after I had worn them for a few days,) and she used a logical approach to fix the situation. HORRIBLE! First of all, I went to this office for help with my eye glasses because Lens-crafters couldn't get them right. So I did a whole New prescription well I told the DR lady before I left the exam room that the New prescription was blurry and she said you need to try Bruder for your eyes and they will adjust. So the ladies sent out the (3) NEW eye frames I picked out with this New prescription. Long behold 2 weeks later they came back and I tried them on and # 1 the reading glasses I cannot even see out of and #2 the other two glasses are so blurry I can't even see through them. I told the lady this at the desk and you know what she had the Nerve to say to me? Your Eyes will adjust to any prescription and I was Like that's a LIE. So she stated to me that they would NOT fix them or REFUND me my money back. So I am taking matters into my own hands and I am posting this on all of the Websites, I have filed a complaint with BBB and I have reached out to Michael Finney (Channel 7 on your side). They are going to make it right one way or the other because I will NOT allow them to treat a paying customer like this! I even offered for them to take the (3) brand NEW frames back which haven't even been used and I will eat the money for the lenses and they REFUSED. So I am going to make sure that People know what a SCAM this place is. In fact I called other eye DR's and asked them - Do your eyes adjust to any eye prescription and they laughed and said NO! I was out of town and on vacation and needed a pair of sunglasses. I also needed a pair of readers, since I left mine at a hotel. I decided to visit this local eyeglass shop. Dr. Joyce and his staff was a real pleasure to deal with. Dr. Joyce himself provided some insight on the best glasses to obtain for the activities I need them for. It was a great experience. I have read some of the negative posts here, and I frequent one of the best optomotrists in the business in Chicago. I have had delivery problems with my progressive glasses as well. Let me tell you folks it's not the Doctor its the lab. It happens everywhere. What is important is that the Doctor appropriately diagnosis your vision. HORRIBLE BUSINESS! DO NOT GO HERE!!! I bought my 14 year old 2 sets of eye glasses. The first time around when my order came back wrong (no transitions), I let it slide. The following year, same thing happened. My order came back wrong...after I paid in full....they told me I'd have to pay for a new pair!!!!! WTH!? Why should I pay twice for their mistake? Not only did my order come back wrong.... after a few months the glasses fell apart , and the scratch resistant is coming off! I can't afford for this to keep happening to my child. This is not fair! What a rip off! I HATE THIS PLACE! BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! Zero star rating! I am definitely reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and Channel 5 news! read more

I would rate his this office a five star but with his staff with that being said his staff is a different story. Some seriously bad attitudes here. This place treated me like a thief, following me and my friend around while we tried to find me some nice glasses. Then when I tried to pay for the frames no one would serve me for a good several minutes. Finally someone got the clue that I was trying to buy the glasses. What a surprise. Do most people just grab the first pair they see and throw $600 at the desk? The glasses aren't even good to be honest. Charged $139.00 out of pocket for a contact lens fitting and an eye exam and billed my insurance on top of it. The first visit the staff clearly didn't want to be bothered. When I questioned the amount I was being charged the explanation ranged from, "you have more of a discount policy more so than an insurance." "we only do premium fittings". We thought you wanted glasses" so we didn't bill for an exam". For the record as it was explained to me by a supervisor at the insurance company. A premium exam is usually done when a disease or some kind of health issue exist. Which my chart shows neither. I noticed on my chart they billed for contacts I never ordered. They hesitantly reversed the charge. I called up my insurance come to find out they only were supposed to charge me $65.00. I called my provider and they put me on hold while they called Dr. Joyce office. At this time I am filing a complaint with my insurance company against Richard Joyce optometrists in Benicia. Not only does the general public need to know that this kind of discrepancy is taking place but the insurance needs to be aware as well. I am also forwarding the information to a billing discrepancy company outside of my insurance. read more

First things first. On my first visit the staff wasn't very personable. I came to look around just to see if frames were to my liking. They made me feel uncomfortable and that I really should just leave, so I did. The reception area is comfy. Small but it gets the job done. Small area for children to play also. A year passed by and I decided I liked the large selection of frames. I usually take a long time to choose frames so I figured having more choices would be a good thing. + 1/2 star for the large selection. I made an appointment and the reception staff was slightly warmer than the past visit which I appreciated. They're not extremely friendly and welcoming but a lot better than the interaction I had with them a year before. I don't expect any worker to throw a party because I'm in the office but I don't expect to be ignored. But I digress. + 1 star for nice reception staff. I had an appointment with Dr. Sampson and he was awesome. Very easy to talk to, nice, warm and full of smiles and information about stars! He of course was very knowledgable about my eye health. Neivis (spelling?) is great. She is lively and excited about helping people choose frames. For someone who is so indecisive I need a great amount of help choosing frames that I like but also look good on my face. + 1 star for a great doctor and optician. My problem with this office is a particular optician. She is the heavy set woman with brown hair. She is extremely condescending and rude. She really needs an attitude check. I don't see how she can possibly be working here. She interacts with people on a daily basis but has terrible social skills. She was helping someone and said to me you to move there you're not being helped. There were no more seats in the small reception area and no one was using the chair. But I get it. Her word choice is just terrible. When I had to depend on her to adjust my frames because the other opticians were busy, she kept saying I don't know what you mean? Why is it uncomfortable? I explained to her what I was feeling and she seemed annoyed every time she had to readjust it. And another problem she didn't use any tool to adjust my frames just her bare hands. I've never experienced that before and I've been wearing glasses for more than 10 years. It sucks that one person can ruin an experience with a business but she really did it for me. She needs an attitude check and some formal training on how to not talk to people like they're stupid otherwise I don't imagine myself returning. read more

I will never return to this office nor will I recommend them. I ordered glasses over one month ago and was told that they would be ready within 7-10 days. After 2 weeks I called the office to inquire as to the status and was told that the lab was taking a long time to process the order. A month later I called and was told that the lab was still having issues because they had recently moved. I took it upon myself to call my insurance company who called the lab while I was on the phone and it turned out that Dr. Joyce's office staff had not sent the frames and had been reminded by the lab with late notices not once but twice during the month I had been waiting. I do not appreciate being lied to nor do I appreciate when someone doesn't take responsibility for their actions and instead blames someone else. Took a chance and wanted to support a local business but will not be returning. read more

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT come here. They're legal, professional thieves. Sure, you'll enjoy your first visit there, but unless you're planning on paying $125 every year for a useless exam, avoid this place. I got my contact prescription from Dr. Joyce 1 year ago. He changed the type of contacts I used, claiming these new prescribed (slightly more expensive) contacts are better, even though they make your eyes more dry. He seemed like a nice guy, so I listened to him. After all, he's the doctor, who am I to contradict him? Well, as the month progresses my contacts get dryer and dryer. "Whatever," I thought, "I don't have the time nor the motivation to go find another doctor, so I'll just bite the bullet and get these, they're not bad enough to change." I just called to reorder my contacts, as I'm using my last pair, and what do they tell me? My prescription only lasts 1 year so they can't send me new contacts. I told them my vision hasn't changed, and since I've been wearing contacts for 12 years now, I am fully aware of when my contacts are no longer good for my eyes. "It doesn't matter," they said, "you still have to come in for an appointment." An appointment that would cost me $125. And what exactly am I paying for? For the doctor to tell me that my vision hasn't changed in the past YEAR (singular)? I don't have money to throw down the drain for services I simply don't need. I truly DO NOT understand why they can't simply write an identical prescription so I can have new contacts (which, btw, are not very cheap) so I can see properly. Now, until I find a new doctor and order new contacts, I'm stuck with old, dry contacts that I need to keep rewetting every 2 hours. Is that even safe? I've never come across an eye doctor who forces you to check your vision even when you know it's identical to the previous year. Save your time and money and go find yourself an honest doctor. EDIT TO THIS COMMENT: Dr. Joyce below commented that contact lenses prescription can only last a year because of FDA regulations. Well, the FDA website states that "The expiration date for your prescription is currently set by your state." According to the Official California Legislative Information website (http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/), "The expiration date of a contact lens prescription shall not be less than one to two years from the date of issuance." One to TWO years, Dr. Joyce, meaning you have the ability to legally prescribe contacts for TWO years. read more

Don't know about the doctors because was never given the chance to speak to anyone. Walked in and never helped by any of the THREE women standing behind the desk. When I asked about certain glasses, they seemed bothered by me?? Maybe they treat their current customers and patients great, but you would think they would want to treat new customers just as well or even better in order to get more business? Been going to Dr. Sampson for about 5 years. I've been a repeat customer simply because the service was fair and I liked Dr. Sampson. In Nov I went for my annual checkup. I told them I wanted to get prescription sunglasses. I got my glasses and shortly I received a call telling me I needed to pay for my contact exam. I explained that I didn't get a contact exam. I only came in for the sunglasses. In January I called to tell them some product I purchased from them wasn't of very good quality. It took the staff a week and my repeated calls to correct the problem. When I went to pick up the replacement, the gal said I owed for the contact lens exam. I decided I wasn't going to fight with them any longer, they were determined to lose a customer over $60.00 - after the gal charged me...I had to ask for my prescription. I got home with the replacement product I originally came to pick up and it was the wrong one. I called the office and asked to speak with Dr. Sampson. I have not received a return call or a response from my letter. I can only assume that poor relations is okay with this business. It's not okay with me. I will not go back. Other people have complained about this office. Now I know first hand what they are talking about. . read more
