Had a painful situation going on with my wrist for about a year or so and it had been getting more painful lately, I decided enough was enough and it was time to deal with it. I began a search of local Chiropractors. After reading through numerous reviews on a few Doctors, I narrowed it down to Dr. Richard Cheung. I called the office and was given a pretty quick appointment to see the Doctor I was also told how to access the parking which is on the street in back of the office, not on Lake. I arrived to find ample reserved parking for his patients. I entered the Building and found his office. It was nicely decorated and painted in nice calming colors. The staff at the front desk were friendly and ready with initial visit paperwork to fill out. I was informed that my insurance wasn't accepted at his office and I told them I couldn't pay cash, the Dr. overheard and gave me a very reasonable rate which I appreciated as I have had little work of late. I agreed, as I was impressed by this Man's reputation....I'm glad I did! He examined my wrist and my field of motion with it, he proceeded with some heat treatment and manipulation which were soothing the pain I had been experiencing. He then wrote me a referral to get an X-ray at a nearby location which I did. I returned for a follow up appointment at which I was told the X-ray report found a normal wrist I was given a treatment and also an adjustment to my back which had been bothering me...I was glad the report was standard, since I had been dramatically self diagnosing some sort of Arthritis out of the 100 or so varieties or bone cancer, nonetheless, it was quite painful and Dr. Cheung knowing this referred me to an associate of his, Dr. Lin, in Arcadia. I have an appointment there later this week. I appreciated his expertise and his getting me to a specialist, as the X-ray report gave an accounting of a normal wrist. I found Dr. Cheung and his staff to be friendly and knowledgeable and accommodating. I will be back there after my visit with Dr. Lin. My hands were both numb, cold,right toes were turning in when I walked pulling my hip out of joint, My tally of spinal problems include- whiplash from '96 C1 + torn ligament-causes pain, migraines, visual problems, numb fingers, inability to use hands for a while in morning., Bulging discs in neck & low back. Painful chronic muscle tightness in between shoulders up through neck to skull. I'd seen other prominent chiropractors in Pasadena years ago but didn't like the pressure I got from one to sue the hospital I'd developed allergies to years ago to throw biz to a lawyer he knew, or another who sold supplements and included unnecessary things like "muscle testing" to determine my stress as if I didn't know! I'd given up on true therapeutic chiro help without being pestered for non chiro things. I was nervous about my neck being done 1st visit, reflex! Dr. Cheung said "Don't worry, I have soft hands" then did the gentlest but best neck adjustment - I yelled "C1!!" Sorry other patients, couldn't help it, that had always been extremely difficult to adjust, he moved my neck like melted butter- soft smooth gentle but SO effective! The rest of spine &hips were done so well- I walked out feeling better than I had in years!!! Muscle memory will try to put you back, so scheduling for a few weeks in a row to help your body Learn where it's supposed to be is super important- but he hasn't ever tried to sell that- he is there for you as you need & are able- but dedicate your time to heal! How it's helped- LESS pain- everywhere!! Walking like a normal person! So able to move better, faster, more comfortably. Now I can start an exercise program to help drop the weight I gained with illnesses. I can SEE over my shoulder to check for traffic when driving! Sleeping better -not waking in pain, numbness in hands & feet decreased, no hard core back spasms since! Ok so, I've been looking for a Chiro for awhile now. For the past few years, I've been getting tingling and numbness that shoots down from my neck to my fingers (I saw 2 previous chiros with no relief). It's been bearable, but after the past year of starting my first job as a nurse, my neck, back, arms, and fingers have felt worse. So it was time. I found Dr. Cheung on Yelp and after a few sessions, I can honestly say that I can feel a difference. The numbness and tingling has decreased a lot. Dr. Cheung is a miricle worker, I have a siatic problem that acts up every so often. I am in the service industry and am on my feet 7 hrs a day 6 days a week. The first time I met Dr. Cheung, I was working part time and on a limited budget, he treated me and worked with in my budget, he fixed me up. [if you want a quick overview, skip over this first paragraph-it's just me explaining how I ended up going and why I continue to go ] I have been going to Dr. Cheung's for almost a year now and seriously it has helped me A LOT. I had never gone to a chairo before, even after I was in a car accident a few years ago (I had muscle tightness and bone bruising on my back, but luckily no breaks or major spinal injuries). I was weary about going to see a chiropractor at all, I really amounted my back aches and such to not working out enough and building up back muscles, not enough stretching, etc. But then, even when I did pick up working out and strength training I still had stiffness and aches making it difficult to fall asleep; and I still couldn't bend and touch my toes-I couldn't even stretch to pass my knee caps. Mind you, I am about 5'3" and weighed about 135 at this time so it was odd that I just could NOT reach and stretch pass my knee caps, even AFTER I had started working out, stretching and all that. So, one day I went with my cousins who had been in a serious car accident and were going to Dr. Cheung's for treatment and after their treatment I said, what the hell, I am already here-let's give this a shot. After I did a few stretches, answered a few questions about what troubles me most, mentioned I DID sit for long hours continuously (in traffic - go figure, it's LA- and at a desk job, on top of grad. school class lectures AND studying: basically, my life consisted of a LOT of sitting and more sitting). Then came the adjustment portion-I was nervous by the way, especially when my neck was going to get cracked- but the office space has a very comfortable feel, everyone is friendly, and Dr. Cheung gives a heads up and said the neck crack is going to be really loud so don't freak out-that helped a lot mentally but I know my eyes went huge after the first crack, he wasn't kidding when he said it was going to be loud. Anyway, after getting adjusted, my whole back and even my head/neck/shoulders area (especially where they connect) felt SO much more relaxed, loss of tension/muscles straining, and I felt light- lo and behold, I did the same stretches he asked me to do before adjustment and I COULD TOUCH MY TOES!!! It was then I realized I was THAT wound up and since then I've been going for adjustments about once a month. Side note: my stress headaches and severe migraines have pleasantly decreased in frequency since I started going. So if you have those also, you might need a good crack in the neck to help with that :) Over-all summary: Types of Treatments: adjustments, sports therapy, treatments of automobile accident injuries. Note: if your injury or treatment requires wraps or some kind of ointment, they do have some in office for purchase. ALSO, Dr. Cheung will give you a recommendation of how often to come in depending on the severity of your condition and will show you stretches and so on that you can do at home or even at your desk while at work to help between treatments. For first timers: You will need to fill out a couple of forms and sign some papers as per usual with any medical office so they have a file for you. Age range of patience [based on what I have seen when there]: average is high schoolers (sports therapy) to people in their 40s and up. I see some seniors once in a while. Insurance: some insurance are accepted, call ahead to see if yours is. Payment: again, some insurance are accepted, other than that - they take cash, debit, or major credit cards (Visa for sure-but call ahead to double check for other cards) Price: Reasonable, even without insurance. (My insurance isn't accepted so I pay out of pocket every time I go) Office: comfy, decent sized, and clean! The chairs used are cleaned and those hospital bed tissue/paper rolls are used when you go for your treatment. Everyone @ the office: friendly, easy to talk to. Parking: Free-at the back of the building. I recommend google street view before you go because there is a narrow driveway to get to the parking that goes between two residential homes. You can of course park out side the front of the building if you prefer and where you can- the street parking is on a busy main street though, so just a quick heads up on that. Nearest fwys: the office is right off the 210 fwy - you're basically going to downtown Pasadena which is about another 5 minutes away by car on the side street. Take a gander on Google maps for a better idea visually. Setting appointments: Closed on Sundays, earliest time to come in is 8:30 a.m. BUT depending on the day they close at 6pm or noon. Walk-ins: usually not a problem BUT give their office a call ahead of time to see if they're super busy that day or not. I was very skeptical about going to a chiropractor because I have never been to one in all of my 61 years . I am so thankful I found Dr Cheung. This review is a few months late. I have been suffering with Coccyx for almost a year after an injury at work. I tried everything, my doctor, accupuncture, nothing would help. I have never been to a Chiropractor before but after calling and speaking with Dr Cheung for 5 minutes he really knew a lot about my injury and the options he had to treat it. I found Dr. Cheung last year through Yelp. I saw that he had great reviews and came to see for myself why. A year later, I've been his regular patient. He's helped me with my spine which causes pain and numbness, In this last episode, I've been in pain and numbness for over two months. It was very distressing. Through numerous treatments and prescribed daily exercises, I've seen gradual improvement. This is a process and nothing is overnight but it's a great relief. Woke up one morning with a crooked neck. It's one of those things where you know if you don't get it treated fast, it'll get worse. I've had a bad back for 16 years, and NO, I don't want an X-ray every time I see a new doctor. I got an appt that morning before work, the secretary was very kind and professional. The office is clean and nice. Dr. Cheung asked me a few questions, and got to work right away. A few cracks here and there and I was good to go to work. He asked me about "taping" to "stabilize" my adjustment for the rest of the day. He said that's his specialty, and it seems like he does a lot of sports treatments. (Sorry, I'm not much of an athlete, so that's all I know) Never heard of it, but it sounded interesting and I have insurance, so I said "Sure, why not?" Quick and to the point: Doctor: Dr. Cheung is intelligent, friendly, and funny. I did my research, he's knowledgeable in chiropractic, sports medicine, nutrition, and healthcare. Staff: Friendly, processed my payment quickly, and reminds me of my appointments. Price: Compared to other chiropractors, the price is reasonable. They are open on Saturdays! Unfortunately, they didn't take my insurance (Cigna), but the details below explains why I still would continue to see Dr. Cheung. Office & Parking: Waiting room is small, but you won't wait long. The rooms I've been in are clean and relaxing. Plenty parking spaces in the back. It's easy to miss the narrow driveway to their parking lot. My experience (in detail): After seeing 5 different chiropractors in several places around LA, Dr. Cheung was the only chiropractor who could crack my neck! I prefer the "old fashion cracks." I have an office job, so like many people, I need an alignment now-and-then to have that sense of relief. After a session, I was telling Dr. Cheung that I needed to see a dentist for my jaw. At that moment he asked if he could use the IASTM (Faktr) technique on my face and jaw. In one session, my mouth opened from 2.5 inches to 3.5. After 4 more sessions, I am able to open my mouth without any clicks from my jaw. Dr. Cheung was my ankle's savior .. I injured my ankle while playing volleyball because someone had crossed under and I landed on them after going up to block. At first I went to doctor Cheung while I was waiting for approval from my insurance for treatments with HMO doctors. First time visiting Dr. Cheung I was already on crutches for 3 weeks and within a few visits, I was able to say bye to my crutches. Doctor Cheung did an amazing job at reducing the swelling and pain and got my on my feet again. Once I got approval from my insurance, I started going to my HMO doctors .. They put me on a boot for 3 months and no improvements .. Went to many HMO doctors and not one of them told me what exactly was wrong with my ankle. Paid to go to see a physical therapist and got the exact same answer as my HMO doctors, that I'll get better with time. Still the same vague answer .. After 7 months of "it will get better with time" I wasn't getting any better at all. In fact, it's even gotten worse since I last saw Dr. Cheung. I had no mobility and stability after seeing my HMO doctors and physical therapist. I decided to go back to Dr. Cheung for treatments again and within 2 weeks it got a lot better than I did in the past 7 months of seeing my HMO doctors and therapists. However, even with Dr. Cheung's excellent care, it wasn't recovering as both Dr. Cheung and I hope it would (for one obvious reason, he's not an Orthopedic Surgeon). Dr. Cheung then referred me out to a Orthopedic Surgeon for a second opinion and so I went and got a doctor report and everything and went back to Dr. Cheung for further treatments. Turned out I tore my ligament and sprained my tendon, and not one of those HMO doctors or therapist diagnosed that even when I gave them my x-ray AND MRI report. After seeing my report from the specialist Dr. Cheung knew exactly how to fix me. After 12 sessions with Dr. Cheung my ankle has improved tremendously. I now have mobility, and hasn't gained all but most of my stability back and it's all thanks to Dr. Cheung. Bottom line is, this guy knows what he's doing and he is amazing at it! My biggest regret was trusting my insurance to refer me to bs HMO doctors and stopped visiting Dr. Cheung for those 7 months. If I didn't stop seeing Dr. Cheung I would be playing volleyball again, no doubt. But because I didn't see him for months because I gave my HMO doctors the benefit of doubt, it messed up my ankle even more before I started seeing Dr. Cheung again. Dr. Cheung won't bs with you, he will only do what he knows and will always provide excellent care. Under Dr. Cheung's excellent care, I will be able to play volleyball again. I am now walking properly, can jog and do my normal daily routines again. Had I not went to see Dr. Cheung, god knows what position I'll be in right now and how much longer I'll be out for. Not to mention, he's a really funny guy! So yea, 7 months with bs doctors and no improvements, 12 sessions with Dr. Cheung and I can walk and run and be active again. I'll make sure to send him a thank you note once I start playing volleyball again. I highly recommend Dr. Cheung to EVERYONE!
