Richard's is a health food grocery with friendly staff and a very clean and welcoming atmosphere. It is the go to place for bulk nuts, grains, dried fruit, beans, pasta, snacks, cereals and sweets. The variety is extensive, quality reliable and pricing good. It is a favorite with cost-conscious people who only want to buy the amount they need and health conscious people who wish to avoid salt and additives. Richard's also carries extensive supplements, juices, concentrates, chocolates, coffees, teas and breads. There is a dairy case with milk, yogurt and cheeses and a frozen section of health food entrees. They don't carry produce and have only a few prepared fresh items like tabouli. Their bulk spices are handy but not gourmet exceptional. Richard's does have items which you only see in gourmet stores including French Guy de Puy lentils and Tupelo Honey. Their Feta is of much higher quality (less salt and more silky texture) than in the grocery stores. Likewise their dried beans, hummus and pita bread are better than grocery store brands. Some items like unsalted cashews and macadamia nuts just can't be found anywhere else. They do have exceptionally nice shampoos and soaps plus the usual brands of health food toothpastes and other products. I buy their triple milled French style soaps at much lower than boutique prices. They carry dried lavender in season. Richard doesn't always have the lowest price but there are frequent sales and you can sign up for coupons. You get five bucks when you spend so much to apply to your next purchase. I like a coupon good for anything! Sometimes they run out of items from their supply chain but it's the exception not the rule. I like the shopping experience of the small but well-stocked store with plenty of helpful staff. I enjoy going there and always leave feeling better than when I walked in the store. I wish more of my retail experiences were on a human scale like Richards's. read more

This is a long time place in Bradenton that has organic food vitamins and other things that someone with that type of inclination could be looking for. The staff are knowledgeable and can assist you with those things in the natural foods homopathic medicine area. it's a small business independent and has good covid-19 practices. read more

I am forced to shop at this place as I have to eat gluten-free and there are many items I want that Publix doesn't carry. They are not helpful or very friendly, high-priced, and have such a limited inventory I've given up trying to find the majority of what I came in for. Nice, if over-priced, little health food store. I'd much rather patronize this franchise than the blinkered, bonehead-run mega W**** Foods, which i am boycotting. Richards has what I need, including French green lentils, great chocolate bar options and all the Ezekiel bread types. They had a wine seller guy who was a bit too pushy. Their breads look good, haven't tried them. Haven't been there lately, since I discovered Publix on Manatee also carries Ezekiel, but I will go to Richard's once in a while. They made me take a plastic key chain tag, you'd think they'd send me a coupon or 2 by email or snail mail once in a while. What a waste of direct marketing opportunities. Why did they ask if they were going to drop that ball? Update: went back to buy an antioxidant I'd seen there but didn't buy at the time. They were out of it, and when I asked the cashier, she said something like, "Too bad, don't know anything about it". What? Who knows then? Care to find out? Apparently not for $20 a bottle? I went to Richard's on Manatee to get a sea kelp supplement. After the employee finished helping another customer in the same aisle, I tried to ask him a question, but he was distracted so I politely asked if he needed to be doing something else. He said yes, he needed to get back to the register. I understood his need. The second employee must have been on break. When she came on the floor, I asked her about the sea kelp and all she said was "I guess you will have to research it." C'mon now, I went to the store looking for expertise. If you don't know, could you at least have a reference book in the back to look up the supplements you carry? If I have to research something, I don't need you. I've been driving over the bridge to Richard's for almost ten years, about once a week or twice a month for sure. They STILL treat me like a stranger!!! One employee, Jennifer, was always friendly and knowledgeable - they moved her to a different store! Finally, just recently, a young man named Stephen has been very polite. Then he remembers me when i start talking about having Hep C and how to treat it. He is knowledgeable, thorough, and helpful. PLEASE don't move him!! The turn over of employees is outrageous, which could be one reason why they don't recognize us. Also, they seem over worked stocking all the time and ignoring customers. A lady that was always nice, Terri, is also gone! A very cold woman with short blond hair is always totally rude and uncaring, even shifting me to other employees when i ask a question! She's been there a very long time and makes me want to 'get out of town' with her unprofessional, who-are-you attitude (Maggie?... doesn't give me enough time to see her name tag!) I find the prices are comparable to anything on-line and much better than Publix for the items i need, even snacks! Especially bulk items are better priced than the stores! Plus, since dried fruit, grains, nuts, etc. are not prepackaged, i can purchase the quantity that fits my needs! If i'm looking for a particular supplement and they don't have it, they'll try and order it, or, tell me what the best brand is.. for my condition - that is totally professional and ethical - they aren't out to make a 'quick sell' no matter what! I respect them for that and like keeping our local small business stores busy - however, yes, most of them need a lesson in manners. read more

I used to shop there more because they are walking distance from my home and I liked to support them since they are a small regional chain. But I contacted their marketing dept for permission to set up a table outside their store in order to ask for signatures on a petition pushing for mandatory labeling of genetically modified foods. This was for an event that was taking place at health food stores all across the country on that same day. I called and emailed them numerous times and they never returned my messages. I thought that was exceptionally rude considering the cause was something directly related to what they do and something they ought to support if they really care about health food. A response would have been courteous even if it was to politely decline my request. This caused me to suspect that they are not as dedicated to their health food cause as they should be and because of this, I rarely shop there anymore. read more
