My recent experience with Richard's Plumbing started with Kaleb, who initially identified the problem and remarkably was able to extract several feet of roots from the pipe. Kaleb, professional and friendly, took the time to educate me about the issue at hand and provided me with a recommendation. That recommendation led to a visit a couple of days later with Cole and Gus who arrived at my house ready to tackle the issues (root intrusion, aging cast iron pipe, etc.). Cole's investigation was meticulous. Again, as with Kaleb, I received a thorough rundown of the issues and at each step of the pipe exploration he made sure I understood. Cole and Gus dug several feet of dirt to access the outside pipe, hopped up on the roof to tackle it from that angle, successfully jetted the pipe, and recorded everything, again walking me through the steps they were taking. Following this effort, we discussed options to solve the aging cast iron pipe. Cole provided me with a comprehensive proposal and quote for lining the pipe. I was very impressed with Cole's knowledge, presentation of the facts, and honesty. Ultimately, I went with Richard's Plumbing because I was so impressed with their people, their price, which was fair and reasonable, and just as important I felt instinctively, positive vibes. Cole and Gus returned (August 5) to commence work on lining the pipe. The two of them worked tirelessly and successfully re-lined the pipe, (showed me video as they recorded the newly lined pipe). Excellent across the board, I couldn't be anymore happy with their workmanship. Kaleb, Cole, and Gus, without question, are an asset to Richard's Plumbing. Words that I associate with the three of them, professional, knowledgeable, personable and down-to-earth, respectful, and an absolute pleasure to work with. I've used Richard's for both plumbing and electrical tasks. Richard's Plumbing installed a new kitchen faucet and fixed a number of bathroom leaks for me last year. More recently, Richard's Electrical replaced a large ceiling fan on an 11 foot ceiling and repaired several small electrical issues around my house. The water line between my home and the street had two breaks and the water was gushing from the ground. The Town Hall sent someone to shut off the water. First thing the next morning, Richard's sent two men to fix it. They did an excellent job, worked in 100 degree heat digging up the pipes and fixing my leak. They were there for hours and I thought the bill was very reasonable. I was so impressed with their employees, I signed up for their maintenance contract which includes both plumbing and electrical. My 90 year old mother called this company to look at her toilet. Guy came over and told her it would be $300 to fix, plus he charged her $100 just to go there. She texted me a pic of the issue and I told her what part to go buy. (I live in MI) She said it cost $10 and my husband said it would take someone about at most a half hour to fix. This company should be ashamed taking advantage of an elderly lady on an extremely tight budget. She found a maintenance man to fix it for her, but she is still out the $100 for the guy to look at it for 5 mins. Shame on you. read more

Plumber changed the entire guts to the toilet as well as the valve and line - parts would not be over $75.00 but only $50.00 for what was needed. Job was billed at $547.34 with not over 1.5 hours. 3rd time I've used Richards. First time the guy put in a disposer and replaced some pipes. He was solid. He did the job and was adequate. The last two times I had Greg and Slava and they both were excellent. taking care of faucets and plumbing I'd ask for these two. Slava did really excellent work in both bathrooms. Brian did the plumbing work on my condo. He was professional and competent. He told me the work was guaranteed. When I continued to have an issue, the woman answering the phone was rude and argumentative. I asked that Brian to call me. Despite the issue "making no sense', which it didn't but was an issue, Brian returned to my condo on a Friday evening on his way home and, after analyzing the issue, found the cause. We installed a water heater, but the water heater was defective so we had to call reem customer service. It was leaking water. They recommend we call someone local and they will reimburse the fees. (Still waiting on that ) So we end up calling 4 others before calling them. They were super nice , very helpful. Honest and explain everything and gave us a choice to help us out. Transparent. Earlier today someone from this company changed out our backflow as a subcontractor for the County. Shortly after, an old irrigation system (that we didn't even know we had) ruptured and sprinkler heads started popping out all over the yard, spewing water. As previously mentioned, we didn't even know it existed and have never used it. We don't even know where the shutoff valve for it is, which is the biggest issue as we had to turn off the water from the main valve until we can get it all fixed. When my husband contacted the company, they told us they were not at fault and we would be responsible for the damage. This is absolutely unacceptable and we have already reached out to the County for assistance with this issue. read more

Do not use Richard's Plumbing!! My toilet was stopped up last week, Monday June 3rd. I had used Richard's in the past and was satisfied with the results so they were my first phone call on Monday. Shawn, their technician showed up in less than two hours, which I thought was a great sign. He spent less than 20 minutes snaking out the line and told me the issue was flushable wipes. I thought this was strange because we haven't even purchased wipes in 5 years, after I had been told by Richard's in the past, that flushable wipes clog the lines and aren't actually supposed to be flushed. I paid $352 for this. To my surprise, FIVE DAYS and a house full of people later, the toilet stopped up again. This was a Saturday, so I knew it would be unrealistic to ask them to come out again for free but thought it would be fair to not be charged the additional weekend fee since they were supposed to have fixed the problem earlier in the week. I was told in a very curt manner that Richard's does not guarantee their work and not only would I have to pay the full $352 again (after just paying $352 five days prior), I would have to pay an additional $176 on top of that to come out on a Saturday! That came out to be another $528 for less than 20 minutes of work!!! I was informed, almost chastised, that he could see in the paperwork the problem was the wipes (again, I have not purchased flushable wipes in 5 years) and I probably have more wipes clogging the lines. I then called another plumbing company who not only came within hours, but also did not charge an additional fee to come on a Saturday. The new company spent an hour and a half investigating the problem, removing the commode, and fixing the issue. I was told there were NO wipes found and that the problem was that there were roots forming around the ring at the base of the commode. If Shawn with Richard's Plumbing would have done his job and not made assumptions, he would have discovered this during the 17 minutes he was at my house and I would not have had to pay a plumber twice!!! I fully regret tipping him and offering a cold beverage. I will now and forever think of Richard's Plumbing as lazy "money grab" plumbers and will tell anyone and everyone I come in contact with to NEVER USE THEM EVER!!!! read more

Richards Plumbing has been the plumber of choice for me since 2015. No longer. 7/31/21 my toilet backed up into the shower. It was Saturday, so charge was $464. Recommended a video inspection because roots were suspected in the pipe. 8/3/21 Video inspection done. $383. Said they'd get me an estimate because yes, there were roots. 9/7/21 called and requested estimate. Told both guys on vacation. 9/14/21 Backup in shower again. Charge: $218.90 to clear. I told the technician I hoped he'd had a good vacation. He said, 'I haven't been on vacation." 9/20/21 Called and asked when I would get an estimate. Said I'd hear that day I've never heard back. I hired another plumbing company to do the work. And in searching for that vendor two plumbing companies did a video inspection for FREE. And I was told they never charge a customer for work caused by their not having completed the job yet. I wrote the President of Richard's Plumbing about a month ago. Haven't heard back. read more

I had a backflow problem and called Richards plumbing to help. They explained over the phone will cost me $99 for them to come out and if I didn't want them to do the job that day. What they didn't explain is that was just to drive to my house in Palmetto. He then took 5 minutes to look and said he couldn't fix the problem I need a septic tank guy to fix. Handed me a bill for $158 for 5 minutes of his time! i expected that $99 would be to diagnose the problem to. After several attempts, they were unable to resolve the issue and yet charged for all their trips and the unresolved issue. This company did plumbing and electric and various jobs around Sarasota. Sent me a 42 page bill with no explanations and refused to finish the job unless they were first paid. Had to hire another electrical company to finish one of the jobs but after spending thousands with them they realized it was so bad it would never be able to pass final inspection. Richards then made false accusations to the state saying that we did the electrical ourselves and is currently trying to sue for payment of this disgusting work that ruined my reputation with my customers. No one wants to deal with a tank water heater replacement.... When our go-to plumbers cancelled last minute, we didn't know what to do. We received a call two days before our service call stating a large condo assn had a water main burst and all their plumbers were being diverted to that project. We couldn't blame them as that's the same thing we would want our condo assn to do. In the meantime, we were headed back to the midwest and had our flight tickets booked. At the last minute, we called Richards. From the minute the scheduler answered the phone until the minute our technician left our condo, we felt comforted. We were given a same day appointment and quoted an estimate. Our technician, Paul, arrived before the stated time -- which we were very thankful. He was pleasant and made a stressful situation less stressful. As the time I am writing this, we are 2 hours from our install. We've showered and have hot water. Project successful thus far. We called to have our toilet snaked out and asked what the charge was--we were told $100/hr. Knowing it was a pretty quick job, I planned on paying approx. $100. The guy was pretty grouchy and didn't want to to wait until he was sure the clogged was clear--he said "it should be fine"--not really the definitive answer I would expect. When the plumber gave me the bill (after about 25 minutes of work), it was $153.00--50% more than we were quoted. I asked about the price difference and he said it was the "machine cost", that we had to pay for the rental of the machine to snake it out. I asked him if they didn't own their own machines and he said yes, and we rent it out to you for $50.00. (This was not told to us when we made the appointment) He then got snarky and said if you want to buy your own, next time we'll use yours. I said there probably wouldn't be a next time.
