Beautiful small scale restaurant with lovely indoor aesthetics, a copper plated bar, adobe style booths. Excellent NM style food (interpreted through an Arizona lens) and Richardson's gets the classics right all the time: the enchiladas, rellenos, and tamales are top notch. Green and red chile sauce as good as you'll fine outside NM. The rest of the menu is average at best, and I can't recommend it. Some real disappointments are the blue plate meatloaf (super dry and dense), the "OGP" green potato (very bland), the ribs (no meat on the bone!), the hamburger (charred to death and super dry). Service for lunch is excellent. Dinner service is unexceptional, especially on the weekends...to the point where I wouldn't even bother eating at Richardson's on a Friday or Saturday night: too loud, to slow, no follow up service, plates sit on the table way too long. Stick with the basics and you'll be fine. Otherwise, best to take a pass. read more

This was our first visit and we came based on local recommendations. This place has a super unique vibe and experience with a three restaurants in one setup. It is off the beaten path but worth the drive. The valet parking is a must as the place was packed. The cocktails were good, the Jalapeño Margarita was perfect! Their smoked mango margarita was super sweet which I don't love and not very smokey which I do love so just take note of that. I ordered a mezcal old fashion next not on the menu and the bartender killed it! The meals are huge and can easily be shared it was our first time so we wanted to share a couple of things to get a variety. The Taos Combo had great flavor all around, my wife liked the carne adovada quesadilla the best, I really enjoyed the sausage and her steak. She got the Mexican surf and turf which was good. Last time I came here, we ate at Rokerij downstairs, but this time we decided to eat upstairs on the patio (not exactly outside but quite well ventilated). We had a reservation, which I recommend. We were seated quickly, and water was served. The menus were a little confusing as I think we were given Happy Hour menus, so we had to ask for real menus. Once we had our drink order in hand, we concentrated on the food. And then, there was a power outage, and it got a little dark. Fortunately, the outage only lasted for about 10 minutes, so we didn't have to abandon our meal before we even started ordering. We ordered calamari to share (superb) and I decided that I needed some red meat so I ordered a steak. To die for!!!! This place was hopping all evening and it was not a place for a quiet romantic getaway. More a party before the after party! My food and drinks were excellent and everyone in the party seemed very satisfied. There was enough food so that some actually made it home, although none of mine. Good luck making a reservation at this place or the ROKERIJ if you want to go on a date night with your significant other. They do not take reservations for parties of less than 4 and if you try to call it in, they do a terrible job of answering the phone. This is a nice restaurant, it is upscale but not fancy. It is $13 plus for any cocktail and every entree is upwards of $20. The drinks are worth every penny I will admit. The CBD cocktail that I ordered was made to perfection by the bartender. The appetizer is another reason for the 3-star review. The meat quality, seasoning, flavor, and heat were great. Half of the wings were the size of my thumb. I understand that there is a chicken wing shortage but this was extremely disappointing to see. The wings lacked an adequate amount of sauce which was upsetting to see. These wings were a 3/10. The enchiladas are out of this world. The beef enchiladas are phenomenal. The size of these enchiladas is too much for me to finish on my own so you will be bringing home leftovers. The beans and rice are authentic Mexican food which is refreshing. The salsa on top of it goes well with the tortilla and meat. The entrance is a bit confusing. We entered through an empty patio seating area and the sign is covered up by vines. It is a dark restaurant with a bar vibe. The food was good for the most part. The carne adobda was amazing and certainly the show stealer. My duck pasta had good flavor but there was no body to the sauce. It ate like a duck soup with pasta and no spoon ! The Mexican sausages were delicious. The bacon wrapped shrimp should have been sent back to the kitchen to try again. They were so overcooked you could have used them for a rubber ball. I'm not shy about sending back food but my companions were extremely uncomfortable with the idea of it. I brought them home and fed them to my dogs. The front of the house manager should be fired. We got appetizers with no plates to share with each other. They were not busy on a Wednesday evening and our waiter took 15 minutes to return with my cocktail and forgot my husband's iced tea twice. The waiter was so inattentive that another waitress came by and we told her a man had taken our drink order. She actually stomped off went up to him at the bar and although they were 15-18 feet away I heard her berate him for taking her table. Later when the appetizers were delivered and we had no plates I lifted my hand, a busser saw me, told her and she YELLED I will tell your server" even though she was actually playing on her phone! A good front of the house manager would not allow such a horrible attitude and blatant rudeness. She has no business working front of house. Whatever her problem with the waiter may be. On the floor is no place to share them. Take him to the back and demand half the tip after you are pleasant to your customer first. Having said all that, the menu is different and I saw several items I'd like to try. If most of them are as good as the sausage and carne adobda I think this could become a favorite fun place. I go back and forth between the two for special occasions and most recently I met friends for my birthday at Richardson's. I already knew what I was going to order weeks in advance and even after all that anticipation the food was exactly as I expected. We started with a chilled shot of Casa Amigos and then a margarita. The meal was one of the daily specials; the Rokerij Steak. It was a bacon wrapped filet topped with King Crab meat. Served with roasted cauliflower and their signature Hatch green chili baked potato. This used to be such a staple for the area- but the service gets worse and the operations and kitchen are run so poorly. We keep trying every few months or so hoping it was a one off but today took the cake and we won't be back. We made reservations for Mother's Day brunch and showed up when it wasn't even 1/4 full. They tried to seat 5 of us at a 4 high top and we have kids, so asked for non high top seating. The other spaces were reserved for two hours later and they acted like they were making some great accommodation for us. Then, the food came out one dish at a time over the course of 45 minutes. We were leaving before the last dish came out!! It wasn't even really busy yet. IT'S SO SAD TO SEE A BUSINESS SINK TO THIS "NO STAR" RATING". I have been to this restaurant many times on business trips and it was always great. Last night my adult family and I are in town for spring baseball. I raved to all of them how great Richardsons is. We had reservations for 5. We arrived about 10 minutes early. The hostess sat us immediately. That was the only positive part of the stay. After sitting for 20 minutes and absolutely no one attending to us I confronted the hostess. She informed me that someone will be right there Five minutes later I asked a guy bussing a table if he could let a waiter or waitress know we have had no service. Five more minutes go by and nothing. We get up and walk out. When the valet service gets my car I told him we walked out. His comment "Yea I know they have been real bad lately and it's killing our valet service." We went to a restaurant about 10 minutes away. We all sat at the bar and had drinks and dinner. The bartenders and all the staff were FANTASTIC!!! As a result they earned a HUGE tip from us. My significant other and I made the mistake of going to Richardson's today while I was in town for the long weekend. The service was terrible. The hostess seemed dazed and confused and absolutely gave no f*cks when it came to finding us a table, so we ate at the bar instead, which only made things worse. It took forever for the bartender to take our order, then he somehow managed to forgot the potatoes that came with my wife's order three times. (We had to get it in a to go box long after the meal was finished.) The food itself took forever to make it's way to our crowded seats and was greasy and flavorless at best. The menu is uninspired. I ended up getting a cheese quesadilla which looked and tasted like two malnourished slices of microwaved pizza. The soft drinks are served in undersized cans. (I guess it's too much work and effort for them to put a soda dispenser in the kitchen but diet cokes were our only option as my wife tasted mold in the water.) I can't recommend this place at all. In fact, I would avoid it at all costs. There's no atmosphere, the food is bad, the service is worse, and the crowd that frequents this place are overweight, loud, unfriendly and look like they belong in a day-care center for people who wore mullets and listened to Hootie and the Blowfish back in the day. This might be my all time favorite place in all of Phoenix/Scottsdale. It's such a groovy maze of funky architecture, little booths and different tables all placed uniquely throughout, fireplaces here and there, pet friendly - all the pets!! I've met so many sweet doggies here! Entrances off the front and the back and different concepts all right next to each other with the same delicious Mexican food I can't get enough of. I was there two days in a row this week. My favorite is the shrimp enchiladas with red sauce. My friends get the steaks and rave about them. Its a locals staple and always packed. The hours aren't listed correctly online - wish they would fix that. But otherwise I can't recommend it enough! Call if going late night, just to make sure. I think they close at 11-12 at Rokerij. This place seems like a classic Arizona restaurant. It took me a pretty long time to try it and I'm surprised because we have been to the Rokerij next door more than a handful of times. The margaritas were pretty delicious. The food was pretty darn good. We started with the chorizo queso, which I enjoyed a lot because it was more of a spinach and artichoke dip than a typical queso. The calamari was good but not memorable. Main entrees that we ordered: NY strip steak with crab, garlic shrimp pasta, relleño platter and the pinenut crusted seabass. The NY strip with crab was probably the best - cooked perfectly and so flavorful. 2 of the 4 meals came with a side and the bartender recommended brussel sprouts. I normally like brussel sprouts so I tried it off my husband's plate. I thought they were kinda boring and my husband didn't enjoy them or our friend. The house salads were actually pretty good and plenty. Next best - the seabass. This dish was also so flavorful and something I would probably order the next time if it's available. My pasta seemed bland compared the 3 other dishes. Honestly, it didn't even taste like there was much garlic in it - more like a light Alfredo pasta sauce. The jumbo shrimp were perfectly sized. I couldn't give it 5 stars even though we enjoyed the food and drinks. Our service was pretty slow and we caught ourselves trying to make eye contact to get service at times. Sure it was a Saturday night, but it was not busy when we got there. We decided to grab drinks elsewhere after eating because it felt like it would have taken too long staying there. Lunch team meeting at Richardson's Cuisine of New Mexico in North Phoenix. First time at this location. Place is next door to another Richardson's Restaurant called Rokerij. Six in our party. We opted for the patio alcove. Nice setting, dog friendly, easy parking in the back. Food was spectacular! Service was slow as warned by our friendly server. Not sure of the reason but servers were over extended. We opted for no appetizers due to slow service and decided to order. Loaned the server a pen so they could write the orders. The entrees were served. One order was a redo as a burger was ordered with no veggies but it came with mushrooms. I had the Chimayo Chicken. It was a tasty chicken breast stuffed with spinich sun dried tomato, poblano chili and assiago cheese served with an onion sauce. Dish had good heat. If you don't like spicy food don't order this dish. Lunch included brussel sprouts and a stuffed yam. Good thing apps were not ordered. Large portions, moderate prices but excellent food. Some of us ordered coffee. No refill followup. Love the food and atmosphere here. Worth another trip. Very large menu so will be back and hope for better service or just plan for a very long lunch. read more

Service is outstanding! Absolutely stellar! This place is really really cool. The vibe is upscale casual, and the atmosphere is a bit noisy, but fun and vibrant. The food was... eh... okay, and may have tasted better if we weren't failing at swatting away numerous flies while trying to eat. Our hands were waving around so much, it looked like we were all smelling persistent flatulence. Flies aside, the potatoes were cold and criminally undercooked (I couldn't even get my fork into them). I had also ordered them "extra crispy" and there wasn't one iota of the potatoes that had any crisp on them. Somehow, they were both raw and burnt, but no crispiness! The beans were just okay (a bit under-seasoned), and the eggs were swimming in bean water (at least I think that's what it was), and were overflowing with what seemed like a pound of semi-congealed cheese, inside and out. It had been melted at one point, but I peeled it off my eggs in one sheet. If I had eaten all that cheese, I wouldn't have pooped for a month. The lobster was good, but I bit into two shell shards while eating it. The pork had good flavor, but it was extremely greasy. The tortillas were fantastic, and the hash browns were good. We loved the cast iron platters and the presentation of the food. Unfortunately, the flavors and textures didn't match up to rest of the overall experience (not counting the flies). With all that said, we can't say enough great things about the service; five stars! read more

An "off day", for Richardson's. 10/10 atmosphere, 10/10 food, and 2/10 service. My girlfriend and I went to Richardson's, a gorgeous building nestled in green vines overgrown to showcase its stand against the test of time. We were seated right away by a friendly, well dressed waiter. We perused the robust list of chef inspired mex/american cuisine and in a timely manner our waiter returned to take our order for, "breakfast chile rellenos and carne asada enchiladas". After about 15 minutes my partner's food arrived, cooked to perfection. As soon as the plate hit the table the waiter was swiftly gone. I tried to order more coffee, but before the words could leave my mouth, our stealthy server escaped to the back...further fumbling by failing to bring my order for food....ever. He was seen bartending casually, and chatting with other guests. My food tarried. Another 15 minutes passed. He checked on us and after being reminded; abruptly, insincerely and with an air of swagger was quick to respond that, "the ticket was never sent to the kitchen". Another 10 minutes passed, and he was so smooth/absent we were still unable to request more coffee. I ate off of my girlfriends plate, which, to be honest, was a generous portion(and undeniably delicious). I asked for the check as soon as I could. In the end they did bring my meal to go and were apologetic, this time slightly more sincere refusing to charge me as a gesture. I simply could not accept it, but I would definitely return knowing today was just an, "off day", for Richardson's. read more
