This place was a hit for brunch. From the service to the food I was very impressed. My waiter Gavin was so great with making sure I had everything and answered my questions. The manager was even helpful to inquire of what I was thinking of ordering then took my order once I was ready. While waiting I munched on the chips and salsa. The salsa was amazing. Flavors were on point. I never ordered biscuits with sausage gravy, but reading the ingredients on the menu sounded so good. I ordered the spicy chicken biscuits with sausage gravy and I was not disappointed. The chicken was cooked perfectly with a light batter and not too spicy. The sausage gravy was so savory and full of flavor. The biscuits were light and fluffy. Everything tasted so good together. Brunch Entrees come with a drink for $17. Either a mimosa, house margarita, or beer. I opted for the house margarita which was your basic house margarita. This was a really good deal. The portion of food was just right. I really want to see this neighborhood restaurant do well. The interior and décor are beautiful, and the service was attentive, friendly, and welcoming. I was dining alone, so I ordered the Adobada from the specials section. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the lovely atmosphere. The tortillas and beans were good, and the pork had nice flavor, but some of the meat was a little gamey and dry. The rice was the biggest challenge--it was somehow crunchy and mushy at the same time! The texture was very inconsistent. I'm sharing this with kindness because I genuinely want this local restaurant to succeed. Good food speaks louder than anything, and I think the restaurant has a lot of potential. I am a face value type of person even down to my friends. A coffee, friend versus dinner friend vacation friend, et... now with that said this place is at best a beer on the patio establishment. Cool atmosphere and solid service but food was pretty underwhelming overall for us. We tried the Diego's Mexican Cigars, Baja Seafood Enchiladas, Pollo Fundido, and Carne Asada Tacos. Yum!! Funky Frida's is the best! The decor is so fun and *funky*, the employees are so kind, friendly, and accommodating, and the food is bomb! I got the Camelback Bowl and it was full of so many delicious veggies, marinated chicken, cilantro lime rice. It was HUGE and so generous/inviting. It was perfect after a long day. But also I need to shout out the salsa. The salsa was REALLY good. It's probably some of the best salsa I have ever had. Indoor outdoor vibes, there are both heaters and misters. We came at 7:30 on a Saturday and it was still busy! We were sat right away still which was so nice. You get warm chips and salsa with a slight kick when you first sit down. Love it. My boyfriend got the boom dynamite IPA which is on tap from OHSO And got two so he liked it! Mango notes for sure. The menu is extensive with a lot of gluten free options!! I got the Baja enchiladas which had creamy shrimp, lobster, and lump crab with gobs of cheese and a super delicious creamy sauce on top -- lots of sauce, my favorite. I want my enchiladas to be drenched in sauce. Good hefty portion of seafood, super nice. It also came with cilantro rice and black beans, I could only have half my meal and had the rest the next day, and just as yummy! The beans were savory and just so good. We had a very disappointing experience. We stopped in around 3 PM on a Saturday expecting a relaxed atmosphere for drinks and appetizers, and while the restaurant was fairly empty, the service did not reflect that at all. We had to repeatedly flag down our server just to place a drink order, then again to order food, and yet again when the wrong appetizer was brought out. When we pointed out the mistake, instead of resolving it, the bartender insisted we had ordered it--which we had not--and we hadn't even touched the dish. The service felt inattentive and unnecessarily dismissive throughout our visit. As for the drinks, the margaritas tasted premade and seemed to come straight from a tap--more in line with a basic sports bar than what we were expecting. I ordered their coconut lime margarita. I was totally obsessed with this marg. So so good! They had a great taco Tuesday lunch special, $9.99 for 3 tacos with a side of rice and beans. I tried their crispy fish, carne asada and shrimp on flour tortillas. The crispy fish was my favorite, it was large, and very flavorful. I liked the shrimp taco but it was on the small side. I would have liked more shrimp in the taco. The carne asada taco was ok, I was expecting the meat to be prepared a different way. I'm use to the meat being cut into strips instead of a soft saucy meat. I first thought they gave me the wrong taco. It was not a terrible taco, just in my opinion, not my favorite. The service was good but towards the end we hadn't seen our waitress for a while. Fun fact, you can bring a little trinket- such as a toy, a charm, or something totally random to put on their shelves. I spotted someone's dog collar on their gold monkey by the outside bar. Had some of the worst food ever at Funky Frida's. The salsa was good, so there's that, but the quesadilla was inedible. Luckily they were kind enough to take it off the bill. Margs were good but nothing special. My friends have been back since and said the food is still bad. It's really unfortunate because the space is very cool! It reminds me of Mexico. Great location right off the canal as well. Service was also very odd with some tables able to order off the full menu but our server made us order of the brunch menu only. Funky Frida's was definitely funky! Similar concept to Starving Artist, this place has lots of over the top decor, very colorful and Mexican inspired! They offer brunch on the weekends and lunch/dinner all other days. Indoor/outdoor seating here and they offer complimentary valet parking on the weekends and evenings! We walked in on a Saturday around 12pm with a party of 6 and were able to get seated quickly. They do offer reservations. Our server Coco was fine. I think it was pretty busy at the time so they were trying their best. The chips and salsa were good, and I tried a strawberry margarita which was awesome, I loved the basil flavor added to it. For food I ordered the Hippie Bowl and added chicken. It cost an extra $6 to add the chicken and I don't think the amount of chicken I received was worth that much. The bowl itself wasn't as good as it sounded on the menu so that was kind of disappointing. Some people ordered the tacos and weren't impressed. My husband ordered the torta which was good. Funky Frida's is exactly what the name promises, cool, colorful, and funky enough that I'm pretty sure Frida Kahlo herself would walk in, look around, and say, "Yeah... this checks out," before ordering something strong and judging everyone quietly. From the moment we sat down, we were taken care of. The staff was super attentive and somehow patient enough to answer our 800 questions without even a hint of panic behind the eyes. Michelle was fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable, and the kind of server who actually knows the menu instead of pretending while sweating. Hubs kicked things off with the Monster Margarita, which lived up to its name without tasting like an assault. Nicely balanced, no sour mix crime scene going on. He followed it with the Pablito's Paloma: blanco tequila, fresh grapefruit, ruby red grapefruit, soda, bright, refreshing, and very "I pay my bills on time" energy. Then came the Baja Beach Boi (yes, spelled like that), with peach tea mezcal, lemon, tamarind, and agave. The first sip was... questionable. But sip two? Peach came through, everything clicked, and suddenly he was a believer. Growth! Meanwhile, because I'm an adult and no one can stop me, I had to try all three of their house specialty shots: Piña Upside Dawn: orange tequila, pineapple juice, OJ, grenadine. Fruity and fun, a little sweet, but perfect as a one-and-done shot. Adios Pants: grapefruit & hibiscus tequila, lime juice, prickly pear syrup. My absolute favorite! Balanced, not too sweet, and the name is a warning I chose to ignore. Coffee and a Cigarette: coffee vodka, Licor 43, mezcal, chocolate bitters. Shockingly great balance. Not too creamy, not too bitter, and definitely something Frida would've taken before painting another self-portrait of her looking over it. Chips and salsa came first; fresh, flavorful, and that perfect level of heat that reminds you you're alive. Our waitress brought out two bonus salsas: a chiltepin I didn't care for (not tragic, just vibing wrong), and a habanero I loved but also absolutely tried to sear the lining of my mouth. The regular salsa? Perfect balance with a quick kick. The habanero? Also , sweet, fruity, and aggressive. Like being kissed and slapped at the same time. For food, we split the Hangover Special: carne adovada, a green chile tamale with chile verde sauce, Monterey Jack, two fried eggs, warm tortilla. The pork was incredibly tender with great spice, the black beans were perfectly cooked, and the tamale, though not made in-house, is from a local company and ridiculously good. First time here and was blown away by the hospitality! Everyone made sure that we had the best dining experience. We sat outside, it was gloomy but the heaters were turned on so it was cozy. They have complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect amount of spice. I paired it with the famous queso dip, I love pimento cheese so this was real tasty. I got two margaritas, the Carolina reaper (lightly spicy) and a cucumber cilantro margarita (refreshing). Both are great options! I had the pollo fundido it was delicious. Luckily no wait and no reservations required. I had the hippie bowl which the waitress told me did not come with rice so I ordered rice in the side but then turns out it was served over rice. It was good but kinda cold in places. Wasn't sure if it was supposed to be. My dad had the smash burger and he said it was delicious and you need a fork to eat it. Chips and salsa were good and so was the skinny marg. I might have had too many chips while waiting for my meal, lol. There was an issue with the final check and it took a little bit for them to figure out what happened but they did and also they removed the charge for the extra rice which was appreciated since I didn't eat it. We went to the soft opening and everything was amazing from the food to the service! For drinks we got a corona which was a corona with a lime, as good as any corona with a lime. And we got the raspberry mojito mocktail. The mocktail was very fruity and very fresh! If you're not an alcohol drinker I'd recommend this drink. The salsa (especially the green salsa) was SO good. I would come here again just for the salsa! For entrees we got the big taco, which is half pictured because we got a little too excited before we snagged a photo. The size was intimidating but the flavor was amazing! And even though the chicken was so juicy the crispy taco shell never got soggy which is always a plus. We also had the fajitas, I would highly recommend the fajitas to anyone who isn't sure what to get! The meat was cooked perfectly, the sides were fresh and the tortillas were really good. No dessert at the soft opening but they did have dessert options on the menu that sounded so good! We'll have to try those next time we're there. As far as service, phenomenal! Arcadia just got a new cantina in the spot that used to be Little O's, and it's quite the vibe. The decor is perfect - so colorful, bold and beautiful, especially those lights. Speaking of the lights, I've heard the outdoor area looks magical at night. Service was excellent. The food tasted good. I had the cheese enchiladas, which was a generous amount of food and came with cilantro rice and beans. Parking was easy at lunchtime on a weekday, but I do know from experience that the parking lot can get pretty congested during peak hours. The music was good and not so loud that I couldn't hold a conversation. The prices are a bit on the higher side, which might make me think twice about coming back. Invited to a special preview night. Love the eclectic and colorful atmosphere. This is a Mexican Cantina from the creators of OHSO Brewery. We sat on the patio, which is a great space. Our server Ivy was very attentive. I had the Strawberry Basil Margarita to start. Loved it. Because this was a preview event, they just brought out items from the menu for us to try. We started with the chips and salsa which was really tasty. Then, for an appetizer they brought us Frida's Threesome which was a series of dips- and also tasty. For the entrees, we had fish tacos and also cheese enchiladas. Big portions served with cilantro rice and beans. Very flavorful. Sadly, no room for dessert, so we will try that next time. I came to Fridas on a Tuesday afternoon to meet a friend for Taco Tuesday. This spot used to be Little O's, which I absolutely loved, so I'll admit I came in with some nostalgia and curiosity. Little O's always had such a strong local vibe, was super dog friendly, and honestly had better food than OHSO next door, even though it's owned by them. I was sad to see it go, but excited to see what they'd do with the space. First impressions: the remodel is cute. Very kitschy, intentionally Mexican-themed, and well done. Opening up the bar to create more outdoor seating was a smart move, especially since it's still dog friendly. I also liked that they swapped out the large communal tables for more smaller tables, which makes the space feel more flexible and less crowded. I got there early, around 3:30 pm, and it was quiet, just a handful of people at the outside bar and no one inside. Parking is easy unless it's a busy weekend, and then there's valet. The location is super easy to find, right off Indian School across from JT's. Service is where things were a little inconsistent. When I sat down at the bar, the bartender clearly saw me, but didn't acknowledge me for a while. No hello, no quick check-in, even though it wasn't busy. Eventually he came over to take a drink order. I asked about the wine, but he didn't know when it had been opened, which made me pass. I ordered the skinny margarita instead, and honestly, it was fantastic. Perfect balance, not too sweet, not too strong. One of the better skinny margaritas I've had. They brought out chips and salsa and asked if I wanted spicy. I love spice and can handle a lot, but fair warning, the spicy salsa is no joke. It's very hot. Delicious, but if you don't already have water or a high spice tolerance, stick with the regular. A second bartender came on shift and was a bit more personable, but still felt slightly disconnected. When I asked about the concept and rebrand, the answer was basically that it's owned by OHSO and they wanted to try something new. Nothing wrong with that, but it didn't feel like the staff was really selling or excited about the concept yet. I ordered the $9.99 Taco Tuesday special, which comes with three tacos, rice, and your choice of beans. There was actually some confusion between the bartenders about whether they even had refried beans, which felt odd for a Mexican spot and definitely points to a training gap. That said, the tacos were really good. I ordered shrimp, carne asada, and fried fish. The carne asada was my least favorite and a little overcooked, but the shrimp and fish tacos were phenomenal. I was genuinely surprised how good they were, especially since I'm not a huge taco person. For the price, the Taco Tuesday deal is absolutely worth it, and I will 100% be back for that. Overall, I liked Fridas, but I was a bit underwhelmed. The space looks nice, the food is solid, and the Taco Tuesday deal is a win. Looks like O.H.S.O figured out what to do with the property next door. So now there is Funky Frieda's. Parking is very limited but they do have valet. It's has an outdoor Mexican cafe vibe on the Arizona Canal which makes a good stop while biking. The waitress was excellent. We were met with chips and salsa. They have a full Mexican menu with plenty of Margaritas. The enchiladas were very good with choice of green or red sauce, or both. Cute spot in the Arcadia area! I only stopped in for a beer and a cheese crisp during happy hour (3-6pm), but the service was excellent, the space was beautiful, and I'd definitely come back for a full meal. read more

This review is solely on just the food/take out service because we did not dine in. We were supposed to dine in here but someone in our group wasn't feeling well so we decided to order to go instead. We weren't far from the restaurant so the food traveled surprisingly well. It was very easy to order and the time frame from when order was placed to pick up time was pretty quick. I ordered the shrimp bowl and it was really good and a pretty good portion size too. Everyone in the group liked their food. Looking forward to dining in sometime soon! read more

I meet some friends of mine from out of town and we ordered our margaritas and guacamole dip which in our opinions it was the bomb and then I ordered the nachos with chicken we didn't order an entree because we were full. I also ordered a margarita with cucumber and cilantro oh my gosh it was so refreshing and I am afraid if I would have ordered a 2nd one no telling what kind of trouble I would've gotten into. This was our second visit to Funky Frida's, and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. We attended one of their soft openings about a month ago and loved the food and staff, and knew we wanted to come back. They are a sister restaurant to O.S.H.O. and located right next door to the Arcadia location. Everything is super flavorful and fresh. The chips are homemade, and the salsa is just right. Not too bland and not too spicy! The standout dish so far for us has been their Carne Adovada!! It's a slow-roasted carne adovada pork with a side of cilantro lime rice and a tortilla. You also get a choice of pinto or black beans! They also have a large outdoor patio that's perfect for the AZ winters... so make sure to check them out! read more
