ACCEPTS CASH ONLY My vehicle broke down on Sunday late afternoon at the moment I had pulled up to my place. I called Richie's service on Monday since I couldn't afford a tow to a repair shop on top of what I would be expecting from a repair shop ticket. I had to call him out on Labor Day to get my car running so I could return to work. He was at my place within the promised hour and I promptly apologized for having to call him for work on Labor Day. He didn't respond at all just keeping quiet filling out information on his sheet. I've done 24/7 on-call work for two years in Texas for Oil Rig internet/phone comms, I never once in any way indicated ill-will to a client at the numerously outrageous times I had been called out for, including holidays. Our average one-way drive to a location was 90 minutes. His initial diagnostic was $85 which he said would go toward the repair. He did know what he was doing and was openly knowledgeable. He both explained his steps and diagnosed this issue within minutes, the alternator crapped out needing replacing. I had already done an extensive Google comparison of, definitively, ALL the local auto parts' shops for alternators AND starter prices. The alternators ranged from $120-220, the higher end having life-time warranties and the lower ends being "re-manufactured" with one year warranties. When he gave me the quote, I was thrown back asking myself, "What?!" But, I was sitting in an un-driveable car and hadn't a way to get it to a shop for repair or to buy the part myself. Nor could I pay the $85, say thanks to send the quote packing and then call a tow to a shop. Unrelated to the alternator repair, my transmission was showing signs of troubles prior to the alternator crapping out. I just took that into a shop this morning (9/5/12) and asked if Richie's price was comparable to what they'd charge. Unfortunately, Metro Transmission also gaped at the part's price as well when he saw it was a re-man. He said had the part been a new, certified lifetime warranty part then yes my OTD price would had been comparable, but they would had still been lower OTD. They would had charged $220 for a new, non re-manufactured, alternator with a lifetime warranty where I was charged $245 + tax for an at best $170 re-manufactured 1-year warrantied item. You're welcome to do the math on the markup. I would recommend that if you do use Richies, because in all honesty he was extremely quick and convenient and minus the non-acknowledgement to mine having to call him out on Labor Day, he does know what he is doing; but you'd want to buy the part yourself to avoid a ridiculous markup. My OTD price, $402. Total time he was here, approx 2 hours from hello to goodbye. read more

I don't understand his ads - Richie's website says heating & cooling and has a whole list of difficult installations and work that he claims he does. Called Richie to replace a lower radiator hose and oil pan gasket. This is a very basic and easy mechanic job. The only reason I don't do it myself is I'm too old to crawl under cars otherwise I know it is a fairly simple job (few hours work). Being it was Sunday and my weekend car, I was flexible and asked if he could do a lower radiator hose and oil pan gasket on any day he has open in his schedule. I was shocked when Richie says "I don't do that - Sorry !" ... That's it? I guess it is his business to pick and choose what job he wants to do - it just doesn't make sense reading his website and Richie's "About Me", its nowhere near what integrity he claims on his website. July 3, 2013, 4pm, E150 Van, A/C went haywire after driving through 118 degree desert heat, we made it to O'side and called Richie(found him on Craigslist.) Richie has his own domain/Website, and that tells you that he's willing to invest in his company and spend money on it. At 4pm, about 3 hours before 4th of July fireworks Richie diagnosed and re-routed an A/C vacuum line and canister which would have cost me about $2000 at a shop(who would have taken the factory route and removed the fender). He showed me my radiator which was cracked/leaking; and needed immediate replacement. He replaced a new radiator and the A/C worked like new. 1 week later, the A/C had minor bugs; Richie came out for free, true to his warranty, and replaced a small vacuum valve that was still dicey. Richie has an approximately $80,000 work truck(from what I estimate) for his tools and equipment, with logos and professional signage on the truck - another sign of investing in his company for the long haul. There's always a premium for having a mobile repair - But there's no leaving the vehicle at a shop for days, no waiting in line at a shop, and he is ASE certified. We received a fully itemized receipt with warranty info. I'm from out of town, and actually will be returning to O'side for Richie to do minor maintenance and additional work.
