Had conferences two years in a row here. That part was nice. Room was okay until sink starting backing up and continued to be a problem the rest of my stay. Then housekeeping wasn't cleaning rooms correctly. Had to request them come back up after a long day to clean the bathroom at least. Only thing that had been done was making the beds. One light bulb out in the bathroom 3 days in a row and same eye contact lense, hair, & toilet paper bits on floor after every "cleaning". read more

Had the pleasure of staying with this particular Marriott property over Thanksgiving weekend. It's a pretty nice property in the heart of downtown Richmond. The rates are reasonable and it's fairly convenient to get to/from the Airport. Valet parking is not bad at $19/day (and for those that think it's horrible, try valet parking in my hometown of Chicago, Illinois and get back to me). As soon as I pulled my tired rental car into the driveway, I was greeted by three very nice valet attendants. One opened the door for me and greeted me, the second got my bags out of the trunk, and the third was quickly writing my valet ticket. All were very nice. Walking into the lobby, you could tell that this was a luxury hotel at one time. Lobby was very nicely designed, with a glass waterfall and restaurant. The front desk staff were extremely nice and professional. Check-in was quick and smooth. The room was a nice functional room on a high floor with a very nice view of Richmond. I was able to grab a hot shower and relax before spending time with the family and friends. The only thing that I wished was better was the bed. It was just an OK bed. My partner and I weren't extremely comfortable sleeping in it. It was a little stiff, but I can't be too mad about that. I was able to get a good night sleep, that's all that matters. Next time I'm in Richmond, I will be back. read more

We stayed here for a concert that was held at The National so it was about a 2 minute walk if that. The staff was very friendly and helpful, everyone said hello or good day whenever you passed. There is a sports bar, lounge bar, and starbucks all right in the hotel so i was a happy camper. The rooms were nice and beds comfy and the shower worked perfectly. Valet parking was a horrid price at $27 a day which we did not pay. Parked in the garage on 5th and Marshall for $8 for weekend. If we have to come back to RVA and stay overnight we will be staying here. read more

A scruffy downtown hotel you will find yourself in if you're in for a conference. The front desk staff were consistently friendly and helpful at check in/out and with issues during the stay. I have yet to be impressed with a Marriott. We stayed for the convention and beside letting us having a delayed check out it was chaos. We also spent a lot of money there between food and valet. The rooms were nice but nothing great. It's expensive to get anything from there. 6 dollars from the store for a soda and chips. I guess you get that for buying at a hotel. The pool was nice especially for kids but they couldn't keep up with the towels. read more

This is a great place to stay while on business. The staff (everyone from bartender, cleaning people, front desk) are wonderful. The rooms are clean and efficient. It is easy to get around to everywhere, including Carytown. There are a few cool restaurants nearby that you can walk to, even in bad weather. I recommend it. read more

Nice hotel in the middle of downtown Richmond. Stayed here for a night for an event at the convention center right across the street, which was extremely convenient. Front desk staff was very nice and helpful, was able to get us an early check in. The bar/restaurant service was a little slow and the food was pretty average. This was my first time staying at this hotel. Not the friendliest check in staff. I checked in for a work business trip early in the week and was not impressed by the professionalism (lack thereof) by the woman that checked me into the hotel. She was disorganized and when she returned my card- she returned to return it to me only to snatch it back without apologizing. In addition. She didn't tell share any information about the breakfast serving time, Internet use, gym and hotel policies etc. In addition, parking at this hotel is a pain. Valet costs $27 and overnight parking at the public garage (connected to the far end of the hotel) Costs $17. But I guess that's what you pay when you choose a hotel conveniently located in the downtown city area. The valet assistant guy was very nice and helpful in directing me to the public parking garage. read more

A typical downtown Marriott, comfortable, up to date, and slightly upscale. Sports bar in the lobby has lots of good beer choices and friendly service. No parking, so you'll pay $18/day in the city garage next door or more for valet. read more

Basic hotel. Nothing special. Starbucks is convenient being in the lobby. T.J. Miller restuarant also located in the lobby stays open until 1am but the food really isn't worth the money. Room is the basic set up but noticed a very large crack in the shower. T.V. allows you to view your Netflix but I was unable to get the local channels to come on. Just needed the room for an overnight stay for an event. Wouldn't recommend this place if you're just trying to get away and lounge around. Staff was ok. Valet staff seemed to rush me when I got there. No carts were provided for luggage at check in. Called room service for more towles and the operator seemed annoyed. I would have given the Marriott a 4 EXCEPT that they knickle and dime you for EVERYTHING. The parking situation is confusing regardless of if you use valet or self park. Internet is a extra fee for wi-fi in your room but free in the lobby. Oh and the business center internet is $1.00 a minute REALLY! The location was good the hotel was nice and the staff were good. The Millers restaurant on site was very nice. It's a upscale sports bar. The Mediterranean salad - yummy. Next time I may try out the Hilton next door - they seemed more organized. I will be the first to acknowledge that all businesses have bad days. I'm usually okay with that but at $175 per night I expected better service. I am a County resident (local) but decided to stay at The Marriott for the night because of its convenience to The National. My stay was problematic from the point of check-in. The young lady and I played this frustrating version of "Who's on First" when all I was trying to explain is that I used a card for my reservation but wanted to pay in cash. For some reason, she kept insisting on using my card when I was standing there with cash in hand. With that settled, I arrived to a room (1221) with a badly scuffed door. This is not what I would have expected for the price. The room was clean and aesthetics were average ( a little dated). I should mention the bellhop was awesome! I called the valet service to advise that I left my concert ticket in the car and was willing to retrieve it myself. The gentleman I spoke with on the telephone was less than enthusiastic but when I arrived downstairs, the attendant was extremely helpful. Now, on to the real issue. After the concert, I turned into bed at 6am. By 9am, I was awakened by housekeeping staff who sounded like they were intentionally banging the cleaning cart against the wall moving down the halls. I had to wake up and ask myself if construction was going on. I put the pillow over my head and attempted to sleep again. The noise was so loud I gave up and jumped in the shower to head home to my own bed. As I am exiting the shower, I hear a man knocking loudly on the door and announcing his presence DESPITE THE DO NOT DISTURB SIGN! I advised him that I had a 12pm check out and asked why he was knocking on the door. He looked confused and walked away. I packed up as quickly as I could and exited the hotel. I'm sure it is not helpful that I recently stayed at The Hilton directly across the street and had a pleasant stay. I had the same expectations of The Marriott. This was not the case. I would love to give them another opportunity to prove this to be an isolated occurrence but unfortunately they will not be an option for me in the future. read more

I was not staying at this hotel because of the marathon, although, the staff informed me that the majority of the guests staying were in town for the marathon. I called 2 days before my arrival to request an early checkin and was told that it was only a request and couldn't be guaranteed (as I know from working in hospitality in Richmond, VA). I called the hotel when I was an hour away to see if there were any rooms available. I was told that my request was not noted. I asked if it could be put on my reservation (again). When I got to the hotel, I went to the counter and there were no rooms so I did the pre-checkin and stored my luggage. The agent asked for my phone number and said they would call me when a room became available. I was sitting at the bar when I noticed people going to the counter,checking in, and getting keys, but I never got a phone call. I waited 10 minutes to see if someone would call -- no call. So, I finally called them and asked if my room was ready and was able to checkin. When I checked in, I called down to guest services and requested a shaving kit at 3:15pm. I called back again at 4:00pm because it hadn't come and the agent said she was going to check on the request. I was now 5:00pm and the shaving kit NEVER came. I was late for my event. I was able to find a housekeeping attendant in the hallway who brought me two kits. Thank you so much GIlbert! When I arrived back to the hotel at night, the temperature in the room was 65 degrees! I set the thermostat to 75 degrees and it wasn't moving. I changed it to 80 degrees and still didn't move! This was 3:00am in the morning and there was no sense in calling for engineering. Like I said I worked at a hotel before and with the hotel being sold out there would be no room for them to move me to nor was I willing to have an engineer come to my room at 3:00am. Needless to say I won't be staying at this hotel when I visit Richmond again. Nothing about their customer service (or lack there of) "wow-ed" me. read more

This hotel is connected to the Richmond Convention Center. But it is so close that the few steps it takes to get from one door to another makes the connection unimportant. The rooms are spacious and clean with a housekeeping staff that is efficient and friendly. The front desk staff goes out of their way to answer questions, provide helpful suggestions, and solve problems. I was so impressed to learn that the hotel does not charge a fee for package receiving. The executive lounge is spacious and provides a variety of yummy foods for the evening cocktail hour followed by a dessert selection. The breakfast is ample and refreshed frequently. I would have liked to have had extended hours for food service. The personnel on duty were ready to be helpful and kept the facility clean and tidy. All in all, a great experience. read more

We travel to Richmond for business regularly and booked here. One person needed an extra night so I called to add and the lady ended up adding one night and canceling another. I received the email confirmation and noticed the error and called back 5 minutes later at which point she said they were full. I spoke to 3 different people and all had a sh*&t attitude. If those are the type of people handling customer service I can only imagine what type of person they hire for the other stuff. I will NEVER use this hotel after this experience. Overall, a very nice property. Beware of the $4 sodas in the lobby shop. Staff was nice, especially at the front desk and even more so when they saw I was a Marriott. Reward member. I was visiting the property for the PTA convention. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The ballrooms tend to be cold so bring a sweater. The location was very convenient to the convention center with only having to cross one street to get to some of my workshops, The sports bar was nice as was the hotel bar. The hotel food was decent for the most part although there was a mousse with dinner that was pretty horrible. They normally charge for wifi but had I read my PTA sheet I would have found out it was free for us...bummer...wish I had read it prior to check out morning. Valet parking is a little on the expensive side at $26 a day. They wanted to charge me and extra $10 since they had a sign at the valet desk saying that cars not picked up by 1 would get charged. It was 2:30 when I came to get my car and that was with me leaving a workshop early. Really? $10 for an hour and a half? She was a little rude about it, but whatever. read more

Great location and decent price for a nice Marriott. Took forever to check in and we were in a hurry to get somewhere, which was frustrating. The worst of all is that the walls were SO THIN. You can hear people talking in the next room, in the hallway, doors slamming. Everything! We had to play a noise machine video we found on YouTube to sleep and that only kind of drowned out the noise. This noise goes well into the middle of the night too. Stayed overnight for a little getaway and I enjoyed it. I'm no rookie to the Marriott chain and this was in the upper bracket of best ones. The staff was friendly and "overly" helpful (Just point me to the elevator, I don't need an escort), but that sure beats the opposite. Restaurant bar was good, pricey but who expects otherwise? The reason I only gave it 4 stars is because valet parking is astronomical and the parking garage isn't much better. Also, there is no shuttle on the weekends, a service they stopped. Would have been great to shuttle to a restaurant, walk around, and shuttle back. If you are going to be a big boy hotel you need the little perks and extras. Shuttle is almost standard nowadays. Christ did I have an awesome two weeks in Richmond! I was out on training for two weeks and stayed in the Richmond Marriott and let me tell you, the service in this hotel is EXCELLENTTTTT!!! I'm giving 5 stars to every single member of this hotel save for one. The security guy kind of meddled into personal business when he was asked for his opinion about a bar we were going to, quite disrespectful I might say... Either way, the reason I'm taking a star off is because the A/C of the general area of the hotel was AWFUL, still bearable, but awful. After a hot humid day in Richmond, all you want is to sit on that hotel bar and cool off for the evening. The staff of T-millers, which is the hotel sports bar, was great too! They all know the best places to hang out around the city so be sure to ask them for tips on what's going around in Richmond. Be VERY careful though! In that very bar, lies the CUTEST girl in Richmond! Ohh yes! You'll notice her right away with her cute short hair, how sweet and nice she is and that sassy little walk! You'll be bewitched in seconds so watch out! The food at T-millers is actually decent, they make a nice hamburger that will pick you up in no time after a long bar hop around the city and the prices are very reasonable even though its in a hotel. I would definitely return to this hotel if I were ever back in Richmond! read more

The Definition of Luxury, the $12 for internet sucks, and that parking garage is ridiculous. I parked, checked in, dropped my bag off, then out to get a bite to eat. $8!!!! I was parked for 20 minutes TOP. If you time it right and you're staying on a weekend, grab a spot behind the motel on the street. It will say 2 hour parking, but I don't think it counts on the weekends, I didn't get a ticket. I think it's Marshall Street. read more

I travel every other weekend for work. Stay at many hotels. This is the first positive hotel review I've written. I will start with that. This particular hotel started off as a 3 star in my mind. It's huge, nice staff, great sports bar that is inviting to all the guests... And there's a Starbucks in the lobby! However---- When we first arrived we noticed there were teams of children participating in sports tournaments staying at the hotel as well and we are a team of 7 that require quality sleep and cannot be woken by rowdy children. The HOTEL took the initiative to move our rooms! How nice! But.... They put a few of us into the same room and so we walked in on each other 4 times. We were all so tired and annoyed we didn't even complain we just dealt with it. Then the front desk lady shows up at each of our doors with a nice tasty glass of wine and two free breakfast cards (and a great big smile). You could tell she felt dejected and upset that she knew our experience was dwindling. She definitely recouped it with her bubbly and giving attitude. This hotel also has a feature EVERY HOTEL should have -- pre order breakfast room service with the same price as the restaurant downstairs -- so I got woken up at 7 am to a jovial man with a genuine smile and my special ordered breakfast. He even included little special extras I hadn't thought to order. I gave him an additional 20% tip, but even with that I felt guilty for not giving him more! That's when you know you've received great service! I am very pleased with this hotel. Even if they mess up, they quickly work to rectify the situation and go above and beyond what MOST hotels do! We are long time Members of Marriott and stay at the Richmond Marriott every year for the Architecture Exchange. We always enjoy our stay, however, this year, we had an issue on our first night. My boyfriend, a Structural Engineer in business for 32 years, was on his way back from the Parking Garage (we had forgot an item, so he went to get it) and stopped by a Board in front of a meeting room since he recognized some of the names on the Board that he had worked with. Then, a security officer, Devaugn, asked him to "move along" and questioned why he was there. My boyfriend was dressed casually, but neat, and this security officer made him feel harassed and as if he was not "worthy of attending a function at this hotel". We may NEVER return. This behavior is unacceptable and should not be condoned/allowed by Managemnt at this Hotel...we are very disappointed. read more

I stay at Marriott across the country this is by far the worst prosperity I have ever stay out. I have never gave a Marriott a bad review. I came for the thanksgivings holiday. The front desk are run by a bunch of incompetent people. They were extremely rude and need to learn manners we are the the customers who pay them. It seems all the services were shout down for the holiday. Many they should close down for the weekend if they don't want to work. Would not recommend them at all. read more

The hotel is beautiful, the staff is friendly and the rooms are well appointed. The downside is that I have had items stolen out of my room on two different occaisons. The first time, I had left the room to go downstairs for dinner and came back to find my things had been gone through. The second time, a year later I accidentally left my iPad charging, checked out and came back two hours later when I realized it was missing. Housekeeping had been in the room, stripped the linens and the ipad was gone. Also, don't plan on eating breakfast before 8am. At 730 the staff appeared to be eating their own breakfast in the back of the restaurant. No one was on the front desk and an employee actually ambled past me on her way over from the Starbucks and went back in the back to fix herself breakfast. The front desk clerk was absolutely shocked that they were huddled around the waffle iron completely ignoring the desk. I'll stay at a Courtyard next time and hopefully not lose anything to the resident thief. read more

This place is luxurious! I loved everyone moment of it. Is what I wish I could say, alas these words could not come forth on this review as I had the most interesting stay at this place. The room was the most elegant in downtown richmond I will give it that, but thats like saying it's the skinniest kid at fat camp. I walked into the front door after being accosted by at least four homeless African Americans trying to get cigarattes or money from me. After that, which wasn't the hotels fault, I walked in and was greeted by a midget bellhop, which didn't disturb me but it was just kind of awkward for everyone when he was trying to put the baggage up high on the cart so we basically had to do it ourselves. That was an adventure, but we got to our room and the tv was on and the covers were off, I informed the bellhop but he simply nodded and went back down the elevator. I'm not one to complain so we just locked the door and went to unpack. As I was unpacking the couple next to us (or at least I assume it was a couple) were yelling loudly, we heard a baby crying and a dog barking despite the hotels strict no-pet policy. Ugh! After a night of barking crying and yelling we decided to proceed downstairs for a few drinks, where the Korean bartender messed up our entire order, I mean she barely spoke English, Come on! The whole weekend was like something from a horribly scripted romantic comedy and we will not be coming back I don't think, but we may have just had a bad experience, the hotel is overall pretty cool. The national is next door and there are bands for example we saw 3OH!3 in the hotel, they were rude and I don't really care for them. All in all, midgets, koreans, dogs, babies, and screaming couples considered, it was a fairly strange visit. I was scared for my life at some points and we heard some gun shots from the Valet Parking area, AH! read more
