Make sure not to miss the meatballs for an appetizer. They were probably the best dish of the night. That said, you can't really go wrong with anything you order. I only really had two very minor complaints. Their pasta was a little more al dente than I tend to go for, but that didn't ruin the dishes by any means. The other thing was that the mocktails didn't come with anything to stir them with. Even a straw would have been helpful. All things considered, you really should check out Love & Salt if you are in the LA area. Well worth it.

For our mains, we shared the Love Letter Discoteca pasta, Whole Branzino, Angus Ribeye, and both the Japanese Mushrooms and Spicy Soppressata pizzas. Everything was flavorful, well prepared, and perfect for sharing. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience fell a little flat. The dining room was very loud, and we were seated right by the front door, so there was a constant flow of people walking by. I understand every restaurant has a few less-than-ideal tables. I worked in restaurants myself but it definitely affected the experience. If you're dining with a smaller group, I'd recommend sitting at the bar instead. From what I remember from previous visits, the bartenders are fantastic, and I actually prefer the atmosphere there. I had also noted on my reservation that we were celebrating my birthday. I wasn't expecting a complimentary dessert or anything, but I was surprised that neither the host nor our server acknowledged it with even a simple "Happy Birthday." It's a small detail, but thoughtful hospitality goes a long way in making a celebration feel special.

Art Alexakis of Everclear always had a special place in my heart. Several of his music lyrics during the times he performed with Craig Montoya and Greg Eklund had deeply touched my soul. Any event with the word "free" entails large crowds, which equates to hard-to-find parking. It's always a chore to look for parking in Hermosa Beach, in general. We parked our car in Redondo Beach near the Catalina. Just fyi, metered parking units there didn't take cards or bills so bring some change. I love this time so much that I brought my husband for a Friday lunch date. We ordered the broccolini, no spice. It does come covered in chili flakes so if you can't eat spice, ask for no spice. It's such a delicious starter dish. The ricotta-like cheese is so tasty and works so well with the broccolini and squeeze of lemon juice (or maybe a white wine vinegar) that's on it. For pasta - though I'm a meat lover, I usually order the mandilli pesto pasta. It's a large, thin, delicate pasta that is layered on itself and covered in a creamy pesto sauce that is so tasty. Hubby had the tagliatelle bolognese which was rich and had the right amount of salt to it. Delicious and classic. We ended our late lunch date with a stop at the new ice cream shop in town, Ginger's. So fun trying out all of the different flavors! Highly recommend the child scoop size for an adult! The lavender flavors are something special.

The Roasted Beets with Chicken ($21) was beautifully presented and tasted fresh and great. The highlight of the meal was the Lasagna ($29)--rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious.
