For a business with a supposedly outstanding reputation I couldn't be more disappointed or frustrated with their supposed Rolex educated watch maker. I brought in my Vertex wristwatch in which the crown had pulled free from the movement and he told me he wouldn't, or couldn't - it wasn't clear which, help me with it. Mind you, this watch has an ETA 7001 movement - this isn't an uncommon or quartz movement. I asked him why he wasn't able to help me and he said he's never heard of the brand and didn't have the part. I said okay, I can order the part but he wasn't interested. I happen to know the owner of Vertex out of London and he was willing to ship me the part for free and answer any questions this supposed watchmaker needed but this guy was completely uninterested. I know exactly the steps which are involved with a repair of this kind having built my own watches but I didn't want to damage a $3k watch. I told the watchmaker this is a pretty basic repair and so I asked him directly if he repaired watches to which he said yes and I followed with I am willing to pay for this service so what's the issue? He replied you don't get to tell me which watches I work on and which I don't. Either this comment shows complete ineptitude on watch repair, a power trip, or a "I only service Rolex" attitude. Maybe I didn't come across as a "rich" customer or someone who knew anything about watches but the lack of a reasonable answer and rude treatment has left me with one conclusion: Richter doesn't care about impressions and has no interest in future business. I own a lot of watches and it would've been a real comfort knowing I could take my wristwatches to them for routine and emergency maintenance. Zero chance I step foot in this business ever again and I encourage you to find another watch retailer as they won't do anything to help you if you have issues. I'd give them zero stars if there was the option. read more

We walked into Richter & Phillips and immediately new it was different. Straightforward help, good answers, great selection, no pressure to buy. They ordered in a few ring settings that weren't at the store for me to look at and they came the next day. Setting and diamond quality is absolutely nothing you could ever find at a chain. We work with Kim, she's great! We went back for a custom wedding band and soldering. Ring had to be shipped out for the custom band and we got it back polished and in perfect condition. Terrible experience at this jeweler. I went in to get a men's 14kt gold wedding band resized, they said it would take a "few" days. When I didn't hear back from them after a full week I called and they didn't know where the ring was. They said they had to call me back. When they did they told me my "diamond" ring was in and it was $181. I told them that is impossible because I dropped off a men's ring, they said "uhhh ok, we'll keep looking." They called back again and said they had found it, finally, but that it wasn't ready and wouldn't be for another two days. So a simple resize of a wedding band takes 9 days at this place at least! Most places I have taken jewelry too to get resized takes 2 - 3 days max... and they know which piece of jewelery is yours when you call them read more

Awful experience. I had 3 rings resized here. The first time, I did not receive a call when the rings were completed. They ruined the band on my Emerald ring from Ireland, I brought it back to be fixed and it came back the same way and was given no other options of ways to fix it. I can no longer even wear the ring which is extremely disappointing. I knew that I would be paying a premium to have my rings sized here vs. other family owned jewelry companies but I thought they would be taken care of. I went in 15 minutes before closing to get my wooden watch adjusted. The employees was busy doing there closing procedures. A sales woman directed me the watch repair guy. He was an older guy that was busy packing up watches for closing. He asked me what I needed and I told him I needed my watch to be adjusted. He said that it would be a minute so I patiently waiting. After about 7 minutes or so he came up to me and looked at my watch and "Oh, I hate theses" I asked how come? He informed me that because the watch was wood it could split during the adjustment. So I gave it to him to proceed hoping for the best. I pateintly waited again while he proceeded with the adjustment. When he finally came out, he had my watch in hand and it looked fine but as he was trying it on he noticed that he had put the latch on backwards. So he seem to be upset with himself and he used profanity as he headed back to fix his mistake. I waited again and this time he came back with broken pieces of my watch. He expressed that he was sorry as he patted me on my back and sent me on my way. read more

I really wanted to like Richter and Phillips. We were loyal and good customers of another downtown jewelry store where the owner decided to close and enjoy life. Reising Jewelers was a class act. We were contacted by R and P after they bought the customer files and thought maybe we had found our new jeweler. We have had two experiences and both were disappointing. The first time we were sold a mismatched pair of diamond hoop earrings. The second time the proprietor barely acknowledged us and didn't rise from his chair to greet us even though my husband had discussed a potential $10K purchase with him the afternoon prior over the phone. The experience deteriorated from there. I have always believed that most people are willing to pay more for great customer service. I would assume in the jewelry business that has to be a golden rule. It is unfortunate that a store with so much history in downtown Cincinnati falls so short.
