Came here with my family for the first time on a beautiful sunny afternoon for lunch. We sat outside among the fluffy chickens and turkeys which made my kiddos super happy. The food was actually great! Everything was fresh, and the ranch dressing was amazing. The only thing we didn't like was the frog legs but honestly, I got them with my father-in-law just to try and was not expecting to like them anyway lol. The atmosphere was amazing, our waitress was incredibly helpful and so sweet. The service was fast and the play structure for the kids was a lot bigger than expected! This is a pretty popular place so be prepared to wait. The food portion sizes are Huge! Our waitress was very attentive. I ordered their grilled shrimp salad and it was very good! Much better than I expected. My husband orders a ginormous burger. He said it was spot on. My daughter attempted to order wings but they are basically fried chicken without any sauce or flavoring. Wow. Just. Wow. We came to Richter's Antler Cafe to celebrate my sister's mother-in-law's birthday. Just a few things that were pretty cool: They took our dessert order FIRST and saved our pie slices because they knew they'd run out. Fantastic. Then, the wings - because of these I had to switch my order from grilled chicken to fried chicken, because whatever they seasoned/however they fried those wings, my god they were so good. Perfectly crispy and crunchy. The fried mushrooms? So good. Again, they have mastered the art of the fried batter. The mushrooms were also super juicy, so it was a perfect combination of crunchy and juicy. I made the mistake of filling up on mushrooms because they were THAT good. My assumption was correct. The wings were a great indicator of how much I was going to love that fried chicken breast. It was probably the best fried chicken breast I ever had, and I've had a lot of fried chicken. Chicken breast is a notoriously dry cut but here it was perfect. Tender, juicy, and I had leftovers to greedily eat like a fried meat cookie in the middle of the night. My sister had the grilled shrimp and she also exclaimed it was the best grilled shrimp she had anywhere, and we grew up on the coast, so you know we've had some good grilled shrimp. Antler Cafe has recently become our family favorite! The atmosphere is casual, fresh and hoppin inside and outside. The service is always impeccable, and the food is absolutely incredible! Consistency is key and they have it down to a science. We've dined here many times and it's always a positive experience. The chicken fried chicken is delicious! The burgers and sandwiches are also fantastic and all the side dishes are equally good, especially the mashes potatoes and fried okra. Dinners come with a small salad, Texas toast, and choice of two sides so you'll never leave hungry. Try to leave room for dessert though because they are all so good... the buttermilk pie and blackberry cobbler are irresistible! First time at this establishment. It was busy, but our wait was maybe 10 minutes. Upon being seated, our waiter took our drink orders and returned promptly. I ordered the Richter burger. When you're in the Hill Country stop and have lunch at the Antler Cafe. They have the best lunch specials in the Texas!!!! The lunch menu is set based on the day of the week but you get an entree, two sides, and a tea for $8.00, including tax!!! (It used to be $7.00 but I am not complaining) Get there early because it is usually packed during lunch. The chicken fried steak and pork cutlet are great!! The sides are also great! Customer service was decent, jalapeño poppers were delicious along with the fries. The burger was half uncooked. We all ended up leaving half of our plates with food. The food was good; however, as someone who has been a customer of the restaurant since they were on Hwy. 281, I have NEVER been so disappointed. No, it is not the fact that they have gone up on their prices (pretty much everyone has), it is what they have decided justifies the increase. Let me explain...ala carte cheese enchiladas- used to be $2.59 each are now $5.00, yes, $5.00 each. You cannot get a side salad as one of your 2 sides (yes, despite what the waitress told me) you used to be able to use a small salad as one of your two sides with your meal. And I had a very INTERESTING conversation with the manager(?), Doreen, who was sitting near the door when we got ready to leave. When I asked her about the $5.00 each enchiladas and why they would be $5.00 when 2 of them would cost you more than the whole enchilada meal. She explained that I can go anywhere and ala carte is expensive. She then told me (and no, I didn't make this one up) "If you don't like it, go open your own restaurant." and she showed me the door. I have NEVER been escorted out of a place of business just for asking a question! Look, I generally don't do bad reviews (they are time consuming and probably won't do any good); but, I was shocked! We have been eating at Antler for a long time and have enjoyed it. But, what they need to realize is that competition is coming out here and good customer service will, I would think, always be important to keep those loyal customers. Perhaps Doreen was having a bad day...I don't know...but, really to tell one of your customers that if they don't like it, go open your own restaurant!? I really don't want Antler to close because they are loosing their old customers; however, whoever is the owner of Antler needs to have a conversation with Doreen about what customer service is and how to talk to customers. Look, this is just my review and how very disappointed I was this evening. My little $30.00 that I paid this evening for our meals won't, I'm sure, break the bank; however, good food, good customer service, and reasonable prices are what has kept Antler out here and I hate to see it go. First time visit to this popular Spring Branch eatery. We sat outside on a big covered deck with great open views of beautiful trees and land. Large playground area right off the lower deck was full of kids having a great time. A third deck area is reserved for bands to play on the live music nights. The crazy was the LIVE CHICKENS running loose all around the deck! The birds were very colorful and friendly, but definitely unexpected! Simple menu featuring huge burgers, enchiladas, chicken fried steak, fried shrimp and catfish. Plenty of veggie side options, too. Portions were HUUUGE! A plate of fried mushrooms would have been an appetizer for 6 people easily. The mushrooms were screaming hot and fresh, but the breading was heavy and not well seasoned. The cream gravy was excellent, though. We had burgers that were EXCELLENT- flavorful, juicy meat patties, soft delicious buns, and fresh veggies. Unfortunately the buns on the burger broke down early on, so it was very messy to eat. Fries were doubled fried and nicely crispy. They were out of jalapeno mac and cheese today, so we didn't get to try it. The atmosphere was fabulous and service friendly and attentive. Our waitress came to introduce herself and quickly told us how annoyed she was there's a large party in the back room & told us not to expect our food fast. We saw people waiting for a table going to get drinks and bringing it back....we inquired after a long while, mgr stopped & said they were coming....then saw another go order and leave with drink....our food came...no drinks still. Erin was a great server! The best thing about the mushrooms was that they cut them in smaller pieces which gives you more crispy edges! Delicious! My husband ordered the Chopped Hamburger Steak with Jalapeño Mac Cheese and Cream Corn. He loved the Mac but thought the corn was a touch too sweet for his taste. Ready for some country comfort down home cooking?! The restaurant was in full swing as we came in and we had about a 10 minute wait before we sat down. Diana was our waitress and greeted us warmly while taking our drink orders and handing us our menus. The menu is somewhat small but the food, portions and price point are great.. The restaurant itself is charming and has a country feeling to it. I had the house made chicken tenders, so moist and perfectly fried, flavorful! My sides were pinto beans and green beans perfectly seasoned and great! Hubby had the catfish, Lima beans and jalapeno Mac n cheese with a piece of Texas toast. He must've liked it because he wiped that plate clean! At the end of our meal I asked about the desserts (I had seen other customers orders) and they had a few selections and I selected a cherry pie. They now serve onion rings for seven dollars but I was expecting the portion to be a bit more generous for the price. The peach pie was out of this world delicious. The sign in the front says it all, Good Texas Food! We stopped in for lunch and there were people waiting outside for the doors to open. You can definitely tell this is a regular place for many of these folks. They had their favorite places to sit, and their favorites waiters and waitresses. I witnessed serval hugs given to the customers from the staff. It was nice to be in a place that had such a loving down home feeling. We ordered the fried mushrooms for our appetizer. This happens to be a favorite of ours. These mushrooms didn't disappoint.. They were delicious. The appetizer came with a lot of mushrooms and quite a bit of gravy to dip them in.
