I didn't take any pics, because we were there to celebrate an event and I was in the moment. They have a party room that sat the 20 of us very comfortably. Some went early and decorated for the party. Hollyn was our hostess/waitress and she did an amazing job. Drinks were replenished with quickly and everyone ordered off the menu and there were no mistakes! Plus, it all came out at the same time. Kudos to Hollyn and to the kitchen! Not sure if the kitchen was having a really bad one-off night but very displeased with every single item of food that came and the timing of it all. Our server was amazing though and have no complaints about her! All our food came out unbelievably late, while everyone around us had already gotten their food even those that got there WAY after we ordered. Food was subpar and didn't come out hot at all. If there's anything that stood out in this establishment was our wait person. She was phenomenal from start to finish. She was very attentive, friendly and willingly gave her recommendations. Top notch. The place itself is rustic. This used to be a gas station but the tables were well placed. We started our meal with a spinach salad and fried cheese. The fried cheese was incredibly good. It was topped with a marmalade sauce. Our entrees consisted of the Shrimp and Chicken with Artichokes, Chicken Fried Chicken and Turkey with stuffing and mashed potatoes. While they were all very good, the chicken fried chicken by far stood out. I'm so glad I got to try this place. I had no idea it existed until my friend mentioned it and suggested we all try it out. Found this wonderful good restaurant! Good bar area, we ate at bar, drinks are good, and Shannon at bar took great care of us! I ordered their fresh redfish, as owner Tim, and another guest recommended the dish ! It was so delicious, I will probably order every time they have it! My husband Jack, ordered the chicken fried steak! He loved the tender meat with great crust and gravy! He had a salad and said salad dressing was good! We finished off with their delicious chocolate cake. Be sure and check days and hours that they are open! Owner Tim and his brother Pat were wonderful! I am glad this local place is open. Home cooked food. Same wait staff for the last few years plus. If it gets 3.5 stars that is great as we always have to make a reservation currently and I would hate if the haters liked it more. Heck, It could end up with us having to eat at home. Then we would miss the select pieces of fish for daily specials, enchiladas and chili, unique soups or wine night specials. A lot of diners expect so many things. I am willing to look over several things except quality, service and price. This place has those so my boxes are checked. So what if it's cowboy kitsch, I am always happy and full when I leave. Plus they are not a turn the tables place, it's family serving families in the area. We always end up talking to people or learning about how they prepared a meal. I am sure they would like more business but I don't see how, it's always busy for a place that is 3.5ish. And I am ok with that. Maybe I need to try more 3.5 places. Normally we skip them. After driving by Obrien's for three years, I finally decided to eat here and it has Hill Country charm and southern menu. I had the Haddock fish plate with sautéed spinach, a glass of Chardonnay with wonderful company from a life-long friend. She's been suggesting we meet here for lunch or dinner as it's a mid-location between Boerne and Bulverde, in Bergheim, Tx. I pass by O'Brien's everyday on my way to work and back home. Reading the daily specials on the outside board as I pass makes me want to stop. So today, I invited a coworker and we went for lunch. It looks like a former service station converted into a restaurant. There's usually a full parking lot as I pass on my way home around 5pm, which bodes well for our decision. Lunchtime today was not as busy. We were promptly greeted and seated by the hostess. Rustic decor and several pictures circa early 1900s were very interesting to see hanging on the walls. Lots to choose from on the menu. I opted for the meatloaf because one of the side specials was cabbage. Cabbage sounded good and it pairs nicely with my entree selection. While we waited, the waitress brought over some bread and herbs in oil and balsamic vinager which was very tasty. My meatloaf was tomato based which is the way I like it. The cabbage was delicious too. The portions were just right. My only critique is that it was a $20 plus lunch. I don't mind paying up for superior food. This was definately better than average, just don't know if it was $20 worthy. Just about everything on the menu was north of $15. I liked it and I will likely be back. I want to try the dinner fare. I don't think I will be back for lunch. There are too many good restaurants that have lunch specials under $15. Also to note, they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays I believe. Took my wife over to Bergheim for lunch and were very pleased with the service and the meal.. Normally pretty crowded, but not Saturday at 1 pm which was good for us. Tracy (waitress) gave us excellent service and even had time to chat about grandchildren for a few minutes. I had the small steak and it was very tender and had lots of flavor! This is a unique old place, a former gas and service station. Considering appearance or location, one would not suspect that the food is as pricey as it is. The service was friendly but busy and had to wait awhile to order and to ask for the the check. Drinks are on the higher priced side. I am so glad that I get to go to lunch with retiree groups from two of my former schools. We end up in the nicest of places. I passed O'brien's so many times I couldn't possibly count them. I have a friend who lives 3 miles east of Bergheim, and I camp at Guadalupe River State Park all the time, which is 3 miles west of Bergheim. O'Brien's sits right across the street from the Bergheim General Store near the instersection of 46 and 3151. I assume that is "Downtown Bergheim". I have considered coming here for a burger when camping, but never followed through. I will in the future, for sure. There were nine of us dining on this visit. We tried lots of different things, and everyone raved about their food. I chose a smoked salmon salad sandwich with a side of macaroni salad. Both were wonderful. A couple of the ladies ordered the meatloaf. One of them sat right next to me. She said it was really good. The German plate ordered by the lady who sat across from me looked amazing. It was absolutely heaped with gobs of wonderful smelling sauerkraut, German fried potatoes, and bratwurst. It got high praise from the lady who ate it. We had a major discussion with the server about the chicken and dumplings. I like the fluffy "dropped from a spoon" kind. Most of the other people in our group preferred the "rolled out and cut" kind. We figured out that they would be going in the fluffy direction, since the menu called them that. The server said they were not dropped in, but prepared separately. One of the ladies ordered them. They were huge and, according to her, delicious. There was a haddock special of the day which some of the ladies ordered and liked very much. [ Someone asked my why I always talk about what the ladies order and not the men. I'm a retired elementary school teacher. Most elementary schools have about 4 or 5 males and about 30 women. Most of my retirees at the luncheons are women.] I know one lady had a BLT, which she enjoyed. Let's talk about desserts. We only tried two of them. They were a bit pricey, so some of the ladies didn't want to spend the money on them. Some of them split a HUGE slice of chocolate cake that they said was amazing. One lady ordered the ooey gooey butter cake (they call it something else). She cut it into several pieces and shared it. The pieces of that where at least 5" X 5". I also ordered one, and told the ladies that, if they wanted to try it, get a piece of hers! I ate the whole delicious buttery piece by myself. It was fantastic. Not exactly the kind my wife and I love from St. Louis, but really good. I also had a Moscow Mule with my meal. I have wanted to try one forever. Since it is a popular ladies drink, and I was with a group of ladies, I went for it. I liked it so much that my beloved wife bought me copper Moscow Mule mug while she was out shopping today. Ladies drink or not... I am going to order them with pride. I can't wait to get another crack at O'Brien's. I really want to try their hamburgers. But, I know the other food is awesome enough that they will probably distract me when I'm ordering. I liked everything about O'Brien's. The restaurant is comfortable. The food is wonderful. And, our server was really great. He truly knew the food and was able to answer all the questions we threw at him. Trust me, I asked a lot of questions- more than most "normal" diners do. Toughest chicken fried steak I've ever had. I chewed and chewed and could not achieve a swallowable bite. The mashed potatoes were watery rather than creamy. I sent it back and got a cheeseburger. The cheese looked like spread on cheez wiz. Toppings skimpy and patty dry and flavorless. Fries were greasy and limp. My wife said her chicken salad sandwich was good. The tea was fresh. I guess for a real small town, this might be a good place but in a bigger city like Dallas or Austin, I wouldn't say this is all that great. I went in with a friend a little before 8 PM on a Saturday night and was told they close at 8:30... or 9 PM, the employee just said they close at either 830 or 9 I guess in little towns they close early! We actually left a few minutes before 9 PM and we were the last ones walking out of the building. I just ordered an appetizer and a few drinks and do think things were a little bit overpriced for what you get. I ordered crabcakes and they were OK. It was obnoxiously loud in the bar area due to four people dining right behind us who felt as if they had to yell and laugh at the top of their lungs to Express themselves. It was getting to the point that I was going to complain, as they were extremely annoying. I had no issues with the drinks at the bar. I can't comment on the food, other than the appetizers. I do have to wonder how good the food must be made in a building that resembles an old tackle and bait shop! read more

Got there about 5:30 pm. I took my husband to celebrate his birthday. I work in Boerne, so he picked me up and off we went. Only one other table occupied when we arrived. We were seated promptly. Ordered the fried mushrooms and they were delicious. A nice, light crunch. Very good. Served with ranch dressing and another dipping sauce. I had the 7oz filet medium with the pan-fried potatoes. The filet was bacon-wrapped and was tasty despite being cooked to the rare side of medium. It was really, really red and cool in the center and radiated outward. A little chewy. The potatoes are good, cooked with onions. The husband went for the meatloaf with the pan-fried potatoes. He seemed to like it. Vanilla gooey cake with ice cream. Very rich and yes, its gooey. Very good. While the food was decent, I don't know that it's worth the drive from San Antonio. But if you're in the neighborhood, give it a try. Our server Maxwell was just fine. read more

This was probably one of the worst dining experiences I've had. I ordered the friend jalapeños as an appetizer and they were obviously previously frozen, and they had a rotten taste to them. The server was very touchy and passive aggressive with me which made things much worse. I ordered the ribeye and asked for friend onions ontop and he said "They already come on it but I'll tell them again," when it didn't say so on the menu. Great. I ordered the ribeye medium rare, and it came out half medium well and half medium rare. The steak wasn't even different thicknesses. It was the thinnest, flattest ribeye I've every seen and they didn't even trim the fat. I sent it back because it wasn't correct, and the refire took FOREVER. Long story short, it came out again half bleeding and mooing and half well done like a shoe. Awful experience. Never again will I eat there. read more
