We have been waiting to try Old City Hall and it was worth the wait. I went to make reservations on Tuesday and the weekend was already pretty full. Just be advised to plan early for optimal dinner hours. The tuna tartare was delicious and such a generous portion, you could have it as an entree. The spicy rigatoni was smooth and the sausage was excellent. We also had the short ribs, which were very good. We will be back to visit the bar because it was beautiful. Ok, our second excursion here. And unanimously, the troops did not disappoint. Owen, our amiable bartender was both capable and engaging, with looks resembling a young Kenny Loggins. Introduced me to a new favorite, the Berreta. Amazing. Maybe I'll try the Winchester next time... Anyway, our main server was less animated. Certainly thorough and on point but noticeably hurried. Polite but a bit curt. Nvm. Moving on, the usual brigade of smartly clad floor service personnel was present with deliberate intent and military precision. As if on loan from West Point. A sight to see, me being in the biz for 9 years. Food wise, had not yet tried "Pigs in a Blanket." My wife and her sister gave a hard frown upon my ordering, however when the dish arrived they pounced on them like hyenas in the Serengeti. I had to literally fight them for my share. Will order 2 plates next visit, or ask for security. Next, our first time big and shareable cheeseburger with fries was quite notable. My wife didn't particularly care for it but I did. The real standout again were the braised ribs. As well as the accompanying cole slaw. Stuck the landing perfectly once more. Wow. So maybe not quite a grand slam, but a solid touchdown and a 50 foot 3-pointer all around. Can't wait to get back. Keep it up, peeps. Tip #1: make a reservation This place was slammed! Fortunately, we snagged a table near the bar. Our waitress was excellent. We had dinner here on our anniversary wrekend and it was better than we expected. The short rib fell apart with a fork. It looks super dark because of the sauce they use, but don't be fooled, it was cooked perfectly. The slaw was fresh and it was soggy; it was crispy as it should be. Tried this place for the 1st time and it did NOT disappoint! The ambiance was rich, dark wood , dark green leather booths, and beautiful artwork on the walls. It was definitely not a quiet restaurant, but not crazy loud. Our server Zoe was wonderful! So knowledgable, always a smile and very attentive. The food and drinks were amazing. My husband was thrilled to drink the "hard to find" draft- Chimay beer, and I had their own twist on a Cosmo! We split the Focaccia bread w whipped ricotta & honey. Old City Hall is a very nice restaurant. I came here for a little family celebration during lunch. The interior is very nice and the waitstaff were very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. For appetizers we had the smoked trout dip and tuna tartare, both were delicious. My two son in laws ordered the French dip sandwiches and thoroughly enjoyed them. My daughters and I had the mayors cheese burger which was very good, All were served with the thin kind of French fries that I truly love. My wife tried to make Mother's Day reservations here a month in advance, but couldn't get us in. We opted to go on the Saturday before instead. There were five of us including my infant grandson. We were led to a very nice table in a very nice room to the left of the entry. This was our first time here, so we were a little generous with our order. For apps, we had pigs in a blanket, pork belly, and focaccia. All of them were very good. We were hoping the baby would enjoy the pigs in a blanket for his meal. He didn't like them. I thought they were good, but the shining star (actually of the whole meal) was the pork belly. Everyone liked it, even my unusually picky wife. My son and his wife had burgers, which they really enjoyed. My wife had the steak frites. She loved the steak, but is not a fan of ridiculously skinny fries. I had short ribs. They were amazing. I really liked the way the smokiness was so well done. For a side, I had scalloped potatoes. For me, that was the only failure of the day. They looked delicious, but the potatoes were still a little too firm for my tastes, and the flavor was lacking. In their defence, the scalloped potatoes my mom made probably ruined me for any others. For dessert, we all split the chocolate cake and tira misu. I thought they were really good, but my wife didn't think the actual cake was a little dry. My taste was not. Besides, the icing was so so good, it really didn't matter to me. The cocktails here are wonderful. I wasn't driving, so I actually had three of them. They were the Beretta, the Yuzu Whiskey Sour, and another one that was a coffee flavored dessert cocktail. The dessert one was the best of the bunch. The service here is very good. They had a team of servers assisting our main server. They kept coming and swopping out our wet cocktails napkins. Mine weren't even wet. They also kept bringing my wife another glass of tea. She was a little miffed when they took her half full perfectly sweetened glass every time. This is definitely a place we would go to for special event dinners. This is a new entry into the fine dining scene along the same lines as McAdoo's nearby. Take a historic building, do a top-notch job converting it into a great restaurant venue, and wait for the crowds to come. Being long-time customers of McAdoo's, we knew we had to try Old City Hall. We found reservations to be essential. The surroundings were elegant and my Lemon Drop martini was best in class, but don't expect to conduct much business or romantic conversation. To put it indelicately, it was noisy as hell. We started with an appetizer containing smoked trout that was very good and the skinny fries were excellent, but the burger and the Ahi tuna coated with seeds atop a salad were merely good. Visited Old City Hall, during a busy Saturday afternoon, for a birthday celebration. Parking was a real challenge, as the main street and surrounding roads were closed for a downtown concert and farmers market. Turning a former City Hall building into a restaurant is a nice way to keep the downtown charm of years past while adding a cool place to enjoy. Overall, it has a great vibe and atmosphere for a special occasion, or a date night with your plus 2. We started with two nice choices for appetizers, the pork belly and the focaccia. My favorite part was dipping the focaccia & bread into the pork belly sauce and then chasing it with the pork. The chicken schnitzel as a main entree was good enough to enjoy when accompanied by the mustard sauce otherwise, it was a little plain. Service was friendly, on point, and did not skip a single opportunity to fill our drinks. No celebration is complete without dessert and the Carmel pretzel sundae was not only creamy and delicious, but undoubtedly the hero of the day. It reminded me of my childhood, chasing down the ice cream truck to buy a chocolate dipped bar, sprinkled with nuts and served on a popsicle stick. read more

I came to give this place another go. Much better experience. Once again the cocktails are phenomenal, the service at the bar is insanely good and the food was fresh. My husband and I shared the tuna tartare which was perfect! He had the cheeseburger and I had the vodka rigatoni and we split the salted caramel miso Sunday. Everything was fantastic! What an amazing find in New Braunfels. The classy look, feel, service of a 5 star restaurant with the warmth and home town friendliness of a stand alone establishment. Wow, I was blown away!! Came in on a Friday night and was lucky to get it. Had a short wait, but was able to order drinks at the bar while we waited for our table. The place is super fun and sexy. I particularly enjoyed the photos of all the "mayors" portrayed in films throughout the years. The food was amazing, with massive portions. I absolutely will come back. In the future I would definitely recommend making a reservation! The vibes are immaculate and it's upscale without feeling snobby if that makes sense. I ordered the focaccia and it was truly amazing!!! Afterwards I ordered the steak frites and they were impeccable. PERFECTLY cooked and sliced like butter. A lot of people have been saying they weren't impressed by the sauce but I really really liked it. The fries were also excellent. The interior is gorgeous, the bar alone is stunning and the whole restaurant has a really inviting atmosphere. We started with the lemon drop martini and it was one of the best I've had. It had this amazing lemon-meringue style foam on top that made it feel extra special. The espresso martini was also really smooth and well balanced. The food was delicious but I was a tad bit disappointed in the $80 bone in rib eye. It was good but maybe I expected just a little better. The scalloped potatoes were probably the best I've ever eaten. The right amount of cheese but the way they sliced the potatoes so thin, made for a light fluffy bite each time. I also had the spicy rigatoni. Sooooo good. I'm glad I had some left over for my midnight snack. We came for lunch in a glumly day.Check in was filled with questions. But just about all the dishes impressed us. The artichokes were different. Out of the two more salad dishes we ordered the chicken and schnitzel was a favorite. I would have loved to try one of the two sundaes for dessert. The menu has a little of everything. Casual and upscale. There were a few things I'd like to come back for. Especially their happy hour for martinis and pigs in a blanket! I will say the lunch and dinner Menu is basically the same I wish there were more brunch options! But great service and delicious food. I've been hearing word of mouth reviews from locals who hate it or love it. We came At 4:30 for drinks and apps only but we were so impressed with what we ordered and the service, that we stayed for dinner. Espresso martinis are top tier. On my too 3 for sure in NB. Tuna tartare and the artichokes were very tasty. I ordered the chicken schnitzel which was perfect and I LOVED the Caesar salad that came with it. A few in our party had the Mayor's Burger and they vanished from their plates rather quickly. We were quite impressed with the pasta dish (pesto trumpets I think). So good. Service was amazing!! The burger could be the best in town, but 3 different people commented on the over salting. I had a beautiful juicy pork chop that I could not eat. Visited here for an early birthday celebration. The restaurant is new, and had a lot of excitement around it. The restoration is beautiful. From the moment we arrived, the hostess and staff acknowledged that we were celebrating a birthday, and our server, Ava, did as well. There were also several celebrations happening around us, with desserts coming out with candles, so it definitely felt like a place where special occasions are recognized. The only miss was when our dessert came out without a candle. It may seem small, but when you're paying $$$$$ for a meal those little details stand out, especially for a birthday celebration. We mentioned it to a manager in a black jacket with a ponytail after dinner and he was kind and appreciated the feedback. He explained that the team is young and still a work in progress, and that he would make sure the staff is more mindful moving forward. I appreciated the response, though I do wish there had been a little more acknowledgment of ownership for the missed moment itself. Something as simple as "We'll make it right next time" would have gone a long way. That said, the restaurant has a lot of potential and hope they continue tightening up those small celebration details as they grow. read more

This is our new go to in New Braunfels. We love that they take reservations and highly suggest that you plan ahead by making a reservation. You can choose between inside or patio dining. We have enjoyed both. If you choose patio dining, you will be happy to see that they have made every effort to make you comfortable (cover, heaters, fans) year round. The staff has been trained to a level of excellence rarely found. Kudos to management and the staff. We've found the food follows similar level of excellence. Our favorite appetizer is the focaccia and whipped ricotta. The whipped ricotta has honey and chili oil infused with chili flakes. The flavors are a wonderful blend. For entrees I recommend the bolognese, pistachio pesto trumpets or the mayors cheese burger. All were yummy BUT, the bolognese was the best we've ever had. Hubby and I came here night two post opening and although they had a soft launch prior, I was impressed with their entire operation considering it was only day two. I feel like this place is exactly what new Braunfels needed. It is a really nice blend of upscale and warm, but not pretentious. You could easily dress up to come here or wear something a little more casual. The decor is really well done and fits the Old City Hall almost cigar lounge vibe with the green leather seating, warm wood panels and soft lighting. The bar inside has room for around 20 and there are high tables as well. Just outside the bar they have a nice outdoor patio area with a wood burning fireplace and plenty of heaters to enjoy during the cooler months. There were two ladies standing at the entrance to greet us and open the door as we came in. Upon entering you're immediately at the host stand. My one real complaint about this place is that it is very loud in there, just talking to the hostess was tough to hear her. We were seated immediately and greeted by nice young lady who took care of us all evening. Drinks were a Mexican Martini which was very well done and the Yuzu Whiskey Sour which was also excellent! We enjoyed the pigs in a blanket appetizer which came with a Dijon mustard and black garlic ketchup, which was an absolutely perfect pairing. The pastry seemed like some kind of choux and was golden brown and slightly toasted. We ordered the peppercorn filet for dinner which came with onion rings and also ordered the spicy vodka rigatoni. The steak, although a bit undercooked to our liking was incredibly tender and flavorful. The peppercorn was not overdone and the au poivre cream sauce that came with it really added to the dish. We often don't end up using much if any accompanying sauces because they can overwhelm from the dish or ruin it if not done right but this was perfectly complimented and really enhanced the flavors. The onion rings, while good came out cold, the waitress offered to replace them, but we weren't worried about it. We both had one each, weren't going to eat anymore and I believe it's just a timing issue there and I'm sure it will resolve as staff gets more familiar. My Spicy Vodka pasta was well seasoned and perfectly al dente. It says it's a for the table dish though it's pretty small, and if ordering as a "meal" having an accompanying roll or bread would have been nice. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate cake which was a huge slice and very rich. I asked for a small scoop of ice cream on the side just to help cut through some of the richness. We also ordered one of their specialty sundaes that had olive oil and pistachios on it. I was skeptical, but it was pretty good. Overall, I'm really glad this place is here. We really enjoyed our experience and all of the food was delicious. I believe the pricing is on point although on the higher end, I think it reflects the restaurant well. I think Old City Hall is such a welcomed addition to Downtown. My frustration with many New Braunfels restaurants has been that most of the food only holds up if you're consuming a lot of alcohol, and as a sober person, I really want to enjoy food that stands out and shines on its own without it. Old City Hall has nailed that for me. From the focaccia with whipped ricotta and hot honey, to the tuna tartare and grilled artichokes - each dish brought something worth savoring. My husband loved the short ribs, and the steak frites and burger both delivered as well. We equally enjoyed the tableside pour of their "Phony Negroni," which arrived in a beautifully etched rocks glass with a shaved orange peel and custom ice cube - delicious and unlike anything we've had elsewhere. Their sundaes and dark chocolate cake are not to be missed either. The design, decor, and details are not to be overlooked - you really feel like you are somewhere special. The hospitality has matched the food beautifully. We look forward to making more memories at Old City Hall. read more

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, the service was fantastic, but the menu is boring, and the food is subpar. The appetizers were strange, the plates were odd combos-schnitzel and Cesar salad? Maybe do spatzle with the schnItzel, that would make more sense! I had the salmon, it had a sloppy, mushy side of asparagus with red pepper in some sort of creamy sauce. I am hoping they can figure out a good menu and step up the food flavors, if not, I can only see people going once, I know I will not go back any time soon. read more

The beef tartare appetizer was a generous size and quite tasty with just the Rick kick of jalapeno. The pistachio and pesto trumpets was great, I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was, definitely exceeded expectations. The miso Salmon was delicious and the sauce is fantastic. The asparagus was cooked perfectly as well. I love when restaurants have affogato and this was a perfect after dinner treat. The apple strudel was also very tasty and again a generous size. We had the Pig in a Blanket for an appetizer, which featured black garlic ketchup and honey Dijon mustard. Then my husband got the beef short ribs with a mustard BBQ sauce that just fell off the bone. I had the peppercorn filet with au poivre sauce and onion rings.
