Rick's has the best Cheese Steaks in Hampton Roads and can legitimately contest any cheese steak spot in Philly (the fat guy here made sure to go on a cheese steak tour when I was up there). I must admit I was a little skeptical about this particular location because sometimes businesses stretch themselves too thin and one of the things that suffer most is the quality of service and food. But they did not skip a beat at all. In fact, I thought it was a tad bit better. While dining here, I heard a guy say, "I'm addicted." I replied (rather loudly) that, "I don't know who 'Ted' is, but the first part seems correct." When it came I didn't know if I should eat it or start a rugby match (because the sandwich was the size of a rugby ... oh, you got that? Good for you!). The "small" was still huge with tons of meat in a great roll and I got more fries than any three people would ever eat. Especially since they were crinkle cut fries, which are the worst fries. Minus points for the fries. Bad fries. But the cheesesteak was fantastic. So get that. And please don't order like the woman next to me who wanted a "cheesesteak" but with grilled shrimp (or something - half listening at this point) instead of steak and NO cheese. The waiter mentioned the large steak and cheese had one pound of meat on it! My husband's only complaint is that he wished his cheesesteak had more cheese on it. Food: Ok, so yes, the cheese steak nails it every time here, but I want to talk about bacon. Specifically bacon, jalapeno cheese fries. HOLY CRAP! The portions here are huge, so when you purchase your food, realize you may have it for a couple nights worth of a meal. My girlfriend and I decided to check it out after reading awesome reviews and craving a delicious cheesesteak for some time. The location is rather unassuming, apart from the steady stream of pedestrian traffic in and out of the establishment. Upon entering we took a seat in a booth and were promptly greeted by our waitress and handed menus. We decided quickly on their large (12 inch) cheese steak and a small order of fries to share. Our food arrived a few minutes later, and I knew we had come to the right place. Meat piled high and pouring out of the delicious rolls. I pressed the meat down with a fork just to be able to take an actual bite of the gargantuan sandwich. The rolls were just as I like them for cheese steaks, chewy and hearty, and the meat was as a true cheesesteak should be, greasy, hot, and seasoned to perfection with onions and provolone layered through each bite. Our "small" order of fries was massive, easily enough for 2-3 people and perfect for sharing. The fries were crinkle-cut, just the way they should be. We overheard the waitress talking to some other patrons and described their deep-fried cheesecake dessert which was described as cheesecake in a funnel cake batter. Both my girlfriend and I were too full to give into temptation, but next time we will indulge. Used to visit them in Newport News all the time. When I visit my family in Williamsburg this is one of two restaurants I have to visit during my trip. The steaks are expensive, but so worth it. I am a big eater and I can't finish one. So much meat. So much cheese. Last time there was so much whiz on my steak that I was dipping fries in it. I haven't had take-out from this new location yet, but the old location it seemed like the steaks were smaller (had less meat and cheese) when ordered to-go. I tried the bacon steak last time and have a new favorite. Most places put a few scrawny slices on top. They chop it up and mix it with the rest of the steak. That was delightful! Cold sandwiches aren't bad either, but meat is cut too thickly for my preference (I like mine extra thin / shaved). I'll be coming back as long as they stay in business (and they better with this new location!) read more

The meat was so tender and juicy, and there's just enough cheese to make that string between the sandwich and your mouth every time you take a bite! Hoagie roll with just the right amount of chewy, crusty goodness, mounded with think sliced steak goodness with lots of cheese, onions, a thin smear of mayo and for me banana peppers and pickles on the side. The portions are HUGE, my 6'2" hubby and I were able to share the large cheese steak. We also ordered a large cheese fries to share for our table of 5. The cheese fries with bacon were ooey gooey yummy. I would recommend one change, right now the cheese is the pump cheese, would be great if it was fresh melted shredded cheese. Still they were delicious. The real highlight of our meal was our server, she was a delight. She dealt with our table of 5, 3 kids and 2 adults promptly and was always friendly and funny.
