They recommended a carbon cleaning service for later on but made it clear there was no pressure at all. I came in for a simple oil change and brake check (squeaky brakes irritate me), and asked them to diagnose a noise. When I got it back, they gave me the run-down on everything, helped diagnose those stupid brakes (high metallic content) and pinpointed the sound I was hearing. Since the sound wasn't something they could fix on-site, they didn't charge me, even for the time to diagnose. I walked out the door for less than if I went to a "Schmiffy Schmube" (Don't wanna get knocked for calling them out), and it's serviced by competent, certified mechanics rather than "technicians". Lastly, I watched Rick (THE Rick) take care of one of his employees, going out of his way to help their family when they had a minor emergency, allowing the employee to take care of them on the clock, and actually *caring* for his guys. Came in for an oil change, little did I know these guys would literally be saving my car. The driveway is a tad narrow and the state won't allow the owners to cover the drainage ditch, swung in a little to wide and my car hit the edge of the ditch. Slid about three feet into the ditch before I was able to get the car to stop. Rick's guys saw what happened and ran out to tow me out of the ditch. Oh and they changed my oil and gave me a military discount. These guys are my mechanics forever now. read more

They are on first come first serve service. I came one day and brought 2 vehicles mine and my husbands. The same day I had a tire fixed and brought a new spare tire, had my vehicle serviced with oil change etc. I then brought my husbands vehicle down and had a tire fixed and serviced with oil change etc. All this folks done in one day within a matter of say 2 hours total time! The cost was very reasonable and needless to say I'm stoked because elsewhere we'd have paid astronomical prices . The employees here are very kind and professional giving top notch service! Was down at Topsail for a vacation. Tried to get ahold of dealer because of a noise in the rear of my car, no response. Called Rick, he said bring it in and we will see what was wrong. Bad wheel bearing diagnosed in just a couple minutes. Had one of his guys drive me back so I could continue with my vacation. They had it fixed later that day, fair price good work, well run shop. Honest, straightforward, go out of their way to care for the customer. Worked on my vehicle the better part of a day. Couldn't help (not through any shortcomings on their part). Didn't charge me a dime. Then, Rick had it towed to someone else to have a look at it. Meanwhile, Rick did some research on his own. Called me and told me what he'd found. It was towed back to Rick's where it will be repaired (with 3yr unlimited warranty on parts) for $1000 less than the other guy. Rick kept me in the loop the entire time. Terrific business man. These guys really came through for me. I drive a unique car and needed my oil changed. They had neither the oil nor the filter for it, and it was a half hour before closing time. Had to pick up a vehicle which they were contracted to tow from Surf City for being illegally parked. I understand that it needed to be done, but the customer service throughout the ordeal was horrendously unprofessional. They refused to take any form of payment other than cash, to include a money order or cashier's check. Upon picking up the vehicle and paying with $250 cash, we weren't provided a receipt for services rendered, but instead, we were instructed to return on Monday during normal business hours for a receipt. I will not be returning to this business, other than to retrieve my receipt, even though it's the closest repair shop to my house. read more

Everyone at Rick's is fantastic. Great service, affordable and very honest. My husband and I have taken our vehicles there several times. Most recently, I took my car in for an issue with the steering wheel and they informed me my steering coupler needed to be replaced. Even better, they researched and found out this was a common problem with my car and that the manufacturer extended the warranty on the part so that I could get it repaired for free at the dealership. This saved me hundreds and I am so appreciative that they were honest and upfront, I would've never thought to even contact the dealership. I took my car in for a new CV boot. I called in advance and was told they would replace the entire axle and was given a $120-$140 estimate. I brought in the car and asked for a better estimate and was told I would be called with the estimate when they looked at the car. When I got the call I was told my vehicle was already done and the total was $208! I asked why and they said they had to add 2 quarts of transmission fluid and that added $95. I told him that was completely unacceptable and that I was quoted 120-140. He then said that was only for parts. (still doesn't add up, and the story is changing). I said he would need to come up wirh a solution to the problem. He said he would have to call me back and speak to his boss. He called back later and said the bill would be $165. I can handle that cost, but still an unacceptable practice. In my opinion if there is more to do than the original reason for the visit then you call the customer and get permission. Also, when the customer wants an estimate you call with the estimate before you start work. The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the vehicle was ready when promised. However, the misleading and dishonest practice of doing work without asking and jacking up the price is why I will not return and why I would not recommend this company to anyone else. read more

My car crapped the bed as soon as I got up here from Florida. I dropped my car off 2 minutes before they closed and they said they would give me a call when they figured out what was wrong. The next morning they called at around 8 o'clock, told me what was wrong, gave me a quote for a little more than 700$ and said it wouldn't be done till Monday (they called on a Saturday). Well fast forward to Saturday afternoon, they called to say it was ready for pickup and told me it would be 500$ because it didn't take him quite as long as he thought. I got there and the guy showed me the nasty corroded parts he replaced and told me the best way he thought to prevent it. Professional group of guys! Highly recommend them. read more

This place and Rick are awesome. My husband is stationed at camp lejeune and I drove down from Boston in an 06 Acura that needed a bunch of service a month ago. He helped me same day, with incredibly fair prices and such friendly help that time. Today I just had to go back to get a new battery after my old one died, and he took care of it within a half hour, even checked my VSA light to make sure it being on wasn't serious. I never actually write reviews but I just went in to Ricks for an oil change and a brake inspection. Customer service was friendly and professional. After the oil change the mechanic came out to the waiting area and informed me I'd need new pads and rotors but I should go to the dealership due to my car being under warranty and they wouldn't want me to spend money if I didn't have to. It may not seem like a huge deal, I understand but I've never gone to a mechanic who wasn't happy to just take my money.
