i really didn't want to write this review. However it's best everyone knows the experience i had. Dowarts specializes in minis. i had a mini cooper with a bad oil leak and a timing code. i took it in, told me it was front main seal. and timing chain. was ready to pay them $2500 to fix it. after it sat there, for two weeks, the day comes to where they fix it. first thing they did was start it and immediately call me and say i needed a new motor. i asked for a compression test and for them to look at my oil to prove their theory before i drop 8k on a new motor. they refused to even do that. i took it to a new place. i got it fixed. it was as simple as solenoids and a gasket, everything dowarts claimed to be wrong, wasn't. am a young woman, but i am mechanically enclosed enough to know bullshit when it's infront of me. i am upset i wasted two weeks trusting them, and i wouldn't trust them if i were you. read more

I took my vehicle into this shop from a recommendation and needed to have a few things serviced. They flushed the coolant and didn't bother to top it up or even put the cap back on the coolant reservoir (it was just sitting off to the side in the engine bay). I did not notice this until I was about 20 minutes down the road and the coolant light lit up on the dash. I also had my radiator fan replaced and this too, was not done correctly. They informed me of some leaks the vehicle had and that they would not be able to repair it. I ended up taking it to the dealership where they notified me the radiator fan was not installed correctly and was missing hardware needed to secure the fan properly. I paid roughly $1,200 to have this work done and it wasn't even done correctly. I would not recommend this shop. read more

I had my car towed here on a Thursday . I have three referrals for this place and I'm so glad I did. I was gonna take my car to the Hyundai dealership they were telling me I had to get a new starter a new alternator maybe a battery , they're gonna charge me an arm and a leg. Kevin said all I needed was a new battery and he didn't even charge me a full hour of labor. He charged me a half hour. He wasn't in it for the money. He was honest he was reliable. My appointment was originally for Monday, but he said if he could get to it, he would. my car was finished and I had it home on Friday afternoon. They were very considerate, very friendly. I am not one to leave reviews, but I feel that the experience I had needs to be shared. My husband's car broke down unexpectedly on us at the beginning of March. We were unsure of where to take the car since almost all places in Jacksonville does not service European cars. After researching and going through reviews, I decided to give Dorwart's Garage a shot because they had a great reputation. They told my husband the diagnostic price would be $75 for the first couple of hours and then would add to it if it went overtime. When we got in touch after the diagnosis, they told me the price is now $138.18 because this other mechanic's price is actually $79.99. It's not about the few dollars that bothers me; it's the principle of not stating that fact that prices change according to the mechanic. When I got the result, they told us that the timing change is messed up and so were the valves. So in order to get the car to work, we needed to change out the engine and wanted $5000 from us. Doing some research on the engines available in this zipcode, engines cost no more than $1300 and so the rest is labor. Feeling like I couldn't trust the diagnosis, we pulled the car out of the lot and checked to see if it was the timing chain and valves. Well IT WAS NOT. So instead of being honest about it and saying they don't know what the issue was, they decided to try and scam me out of $5000 to put in a new motor; knowing it of course would fix the issue. So needless to say, please do some of your own research because for an auto shop to be an "asset" to the Jacksonville community, scamming and lying should not be your motive. Integrity is something most people are lacking nowadays just to earn quick money. read more

Looked them up via yelp and decided to give them a try. Everything was so-so. I needed an engine dropped in my Honda. Kevin wanted to charge me over $950 to buy a used engine off of him! They kept calling trying to up-charge, which I declined many times since I had an engine delivered from Eastside Salvage. When mid-week tolled around I was called again and told that they would prefer I pay half before the began, so I decided to pay in "Full" b/c I was told that it was all they needed to get started on the job! Well I paid the FULL $1400 only to be told that they had other cars ahead of me so the car wouldn't be ready until next week. I played back what was said last week when I had the engine delivered b/c last week they didn't want to start until the engine was delivered. The fact that I got everything they needed to them, only to still not get my car fixed was insane! They told me they no longer wanted to do the car because I had recorded all the phone called to protect myself for this very thing. I was given a refund and a few days to pick up my vehicle, which was appreciated. I just wish they had been more upfront with me vs trying to take me for money... especially since a used engine w/ 160k Miles... COULD NEVER BE WORTH $980 buck !!!! read more

Those guys work until the job is done. In the last year alone I have had two vehicles transmission serviced, a timing belt replaced on my truck, tires mounted and balanced, 3 pounds of sugar removed from the tank of our daughter's vehicle (bought that way from less than reputable car lot that is no longer in business) Those guys went way above and beyond to identify the problem and repair the problem. Went to Dowarts a week ago for a hose and clamp busting on my Mini Cooper. They got me in the same day and fixed it within a few hours even though I could tell the shop was packed. Went back again due to my Engine failing me. They inspected it and quoted me the price, I chose not to pay for it since it wouldn't be worth it. They didn't even charge me for the inspection. A great and honest group of people. A garage that you can take your car in and get that personal touch without all of the fuss or added and un-needed service. I thought I had a starter issue with my car and had it towed in. Within a couple of hours they called me back after doing a full check had the problem fixed and gave me the straightforward explaination of what was going on. They saved me about 500.00 dollars by not just fixing what I thought was the problem and finding out what was actually going on. They even suggested a tow service that was cheaper than some quotes I heard. Tony the tow service technician came out in the middle of the storm and had my car loaded and take out in 15 mins true to the point professional. I couldnt recommend a better more honest garage. This is one locally owned garage that treats customers fairly. They are customer service oriented and don't charge an arm and a leg for their service. I highly recommend them to anyone needing main thence done that doesn't want to worry about trust, expertise and fair pricing. Without going into lengthy detail, they have worked on two of my relatives vehicles and they took care of some very bad pre-existing problems. One was that our teenage daughters car seemed to run sluggish shortly after we purchased it. The used car lot we purchased it at convinced us that it was a possible fuel float stuck and it would be too costly to drop the fuel tank to replace so their advise was to not allow the fuel to drop below 1/4 tank. This seemed to work for the next few months but then the problem returned. We took the car to Dorwarts where they did a lot of troubleshooting and found that there was over 3 lbs of sugar in the tank. They saved a ziplock bag full to give us. Unfortunately we couldn't prove the car lot knew there was sugar in the tank but after repairs (which were more than fair), my daughters car runs great. I recommend Dorwart's to everyone! read more

My husband and I started using Dorwart's Garage in 2009. Shortly after we started using them my husband suffered a brain injury while on active duty. We took my car in because there was a piece of metal hanging under it. They were kind enough to take it off for free as it was something that my husband, under normal circumstances, would have been able to do. On another occasion I had purchased tires and rims, and they gave us a great discounted price. They gained our trust and we appreciated their compassion. We continued to use them for all our vehicle needs through 2011. They offered a military discount and the work seemed well done and well priced. In retrospect though, my car had more issues during that time than it had ever had before. Given our situation at the time, I was just thankful to have a "trustworthy" garage to work on it. Shame on me for not catching the warning signs!!!! Though I cannot prove if Dorwart's poor workmanship caused the issues with my car or not, I truly feel that they did things intentionally for our repeat business. I no longer own the car because of the consistent issues with it......they probably got over $3000 from us with all the repairs that "needed" done. In 2011 my husband's truck engine apparently needed replaced. After nearly $6000, the work was done and we thought we were all set. Not even 2 months later, the engine blew up and left us stranded in another state. After a pricey rental vehicle, several months, and a pricey tow, Dorwart's FINALLY fixed it. It took months to get fixed because even despite another mechanic friend telling us the work was poor quality and Dorwart's poor workmanship was ultimately to blame for the engine blowing up, Dorwart's put the blame on the company who assembled our new engine. We started to pursue legal action, and oh do I wish we had followed through all the way!!! Here we are over $8000 later stuck with a bum vehicle. We found out this week that someone took a drill to the engine light in the truck. Apparently our engine light should be on...hmm... Though we cannot prove that Dorwart's is responsible for the drilling of the engine light, we can tell you that the engine light was on when it was taken to Dorwart's garage, and we can tell you that it is now damaged and tampered with and should still be on. Dorwart's would have been the only ones to have touched it. It disgusts me that they got a way with this and took advantage of our situation and one of our country's service members!!! Shame on us for trusting them, and shame on them for running their business with such terrible ethics!!!! Our experience started out wonderful and ended up terribly!! Would never ever recommend them to anyone, and I hope this review can spare someone the same heartache and financial stress they caused our family!!!!!!!
