I been coming to this place for a very long time, my family and I are loyal customer, specially when I use to live in the area over 15 years ago, I now travel from Brooklyn just to have my breakfast, a delicious home cook fresh avocado with Pico De Gallo, top with black beans ,white melted cheese with tortilla chips, very tasty, oh and dont forget the coffee, this place is one of my favorite restaurants it's conveniently located in Jackson Heights, Queens, on the corner of 37Ave and 75th St, near all major subway and bus transportation.(74Ths St and Roosevelt Ave) just off Lil. Bombay. The diverse of waitresses and support staff very friendly and professional, they make you feel genuinely welcome. I notice the chef did a very good job cooking my order it's what I expected, I rarely praise cooks but she was very good. I love love LOVE this place!! I have been coming here to eat for years and the food has never disappointed nor the service. Ricky's has always given off that warm and inviting vibe, and every time I bring a friend with me they're always delighted as well. Obviously like most places, depending when you go it can be a bit hectic but the staff are never short of accommodating. I have never encountered a waiter there who was rude or short with me there so I was shocked to read some of these lower-rated reviews on here. But to be honest, I take those types of reviews with a grain of salt because my experience time and time again is nothing less than exceptional. Everyone who works there is so nice, Barbara and Leila especially since I tend to come in the mornings - they are an excellent team! RICKY'S CAFE ION 37TH Avenue is a pleasant place, friendly staff....but the service sucks....the first time I went I ordered a spinach omelet with bacon....when it arrived it had no spinach...then I was charged for Turkey ham as well as the bacon...no ham was present nor ordered. Just left there today after waiting 30 minutes for pancake bacon and two eggs....my coffee ran out...no refill...then the food came out they did not bring syrup, but what was worst everything was ice cold..very disappointed!! No where in description does it mention fried onions. Steak was not fresh - cold and tough. Also ordered cheddar sliders with onion jam. It was a burger with fried onions a very little cheese. Worst customer service and i was never asked to come back again! Brought a group of friends and it took 30mins+ after ordering to give us our basic breakfast. In what world does a waffle take this long to make? It's also a small cafe. Two other large groups came in after us and were served, ate, and paid their bill while we waited and watched. Guaranteed the staff forgot our orders and scrambled to cook our food. I was also overcharged $3 for orange juice when it was supposed to be included in the meal price. The waitress also asked if I wanted mixed berries on the waffles and never mentioned it would cost extra. A simple comment you know? Almost $3 for fucking berries? When I approached the cashier she had an extremely rude woman speak to me who was eager to start an argument accusing "people like me not wanting to pay for food". Idk if she was angry at young customers before but thanks for my youthful appearance compliment lol! And yes I don't want to pay for your waitresses lack of transparency and things that were supposed to be included in the bill. I was being calm and pointed out how long it took our table to get our food and the above. I shouldn't have to pay for your cafes mistakes. The woman said it was my fault for not reading the menu. EXCUSE ME!! That is such a Disgusting attitude to treat a customer, especially someone who lives in the neighborhood. Not once did any cafe staff apologize for any of their errors. The side order of eggs and bacon was also a disaster. I asked for scrambled eggs and it literally was one egg that looked flat fried and burnt bacon! The waffle was decent but you can't really fuck up a waffle since it goes on a timed waffle machine haha At the end of this awful confrontation, the blonde woman said to me okay you don't have to pay the bill so long as you NEVER come back again. Just in from a great steak dinner....medium rare is difficult to obtain in this neighborhood but it was perfect tonight, and this is the "normal " here. This place serves as my home kitchen away from my home kitchen, so I'm a frequent visitor. This is a friendly place where it's as easy to catch a conversation as it is a meal. This place is my little gem in the neighborhood, the staff is always friendly, Barbara always knows what I want and she's always willing to help make my day better and happier with a smile on her face which is absolutely refreshing. The servers are also attentive no less, Carolina and the lady in Saturday mornings are always delightful to talk to. Ursula's kitchen is always clean, her food always fresh and served graciously are worth the wait. I love when she makes me charred broccoli which is not on her menu but she's kind enough to spoil a regular. I'm never disappointed but the contrary I always look forward fort my next food adventure at this little neighborhood place since I know they'll make me smile. I love this spot! Used to live in the neighborhood and had Ricky's weekly! It's certainly no frills, so don't expect too much. Horrible service! I tried calling for delivery several times and had many fails! I call and ask for how much the delivery of 2 cheeseburgers, the man says "Hold on", he kept me on hold for literally 7 minutes and then he tells me it would be $10 and I say okay take my address and then again he says "Hold On" and this time for 13 minutes! I was so upset that this guy was so busy with other things that he wouldn't take down my info which would've only taken a few seconds! I got mad for waiting so long and hung up. Then I called them back after like 3 minutes and the guy just put me on hold the second he picked up! Again I was upset and hung up. I thought i was just a busy day that day so I tried calling again the next day and the same exact thing happened! I mean why is delivery even an option if he cannot he handle his own business. I love cafes. But this one really took the jelly out of jam. The waitress neglected several tables along with mine and gave me scrambled eggs with yoke when i requested white eggs only. i know that sound like im being incredibly picky type of person.. which i must say I am when it comes to my diet... but all i can say is that I've been to way better diners&cafes... exactly why i gave it 2 stars... I have been a customer here for about 10 years, and I can speak highly of my past experiences until relatively recently. The food is usually very good and usually consistent. The fare is classic diner fare that is inflected with a Latin American slant and quite successful. The space is cute, if sometimes a bit disorganized. The service on the other hand is not equal to other aspects of the restaurant. If you happen to come by in an afternoon when Barbara is working you will definitely receive great service and a smile and several laughs; Barbara is awesome. But the other wait staff range from mediocre to absolutely vile and hateful. I really am not exaggerating here. The evening waitress (small, middle age with bad wigs) is one of the worst servers I have ever encountered. I have spent a lot of money in the last ten years in this place but I will not be spending any more because of this nasty putita. She is consistently bothered that you ask for something, outwardly rude, makes you wait forever to get a menu, take your order or bring the check, and then if she gets anything wrong with your order she argues about it and does nothing to rectify the mistake. I hope that Ricky's values her efforts as an employee so much that they will not care about losing a regular customer that has spent thousands of dollars in their restaurant. read more

As far as diner/cafes are concerned, this place has you covered - brunch, lunch, coffee, dessert - you name it. The older waitress here is very friendly and easy going. We always have wonderful discussions whenever we stop in. Great local neighborhood spot with positive vibes and local residents. Service is sometimes slower during busy hours. And the coffee can be watery and bland. Notable items from the menu: Salmon Benedict, Western Omelette, Avocado Toast Breakfast w/ Arugula (my favorite), Curried Chicken Salad Over Arugula is nice (but could do without the raisins) and the most bizarre (though delicious) version of Huevos Rancheros I've ever had. read more

Was craving a chicken cutlet hero and really didn't want to travel outside of Jackson Heights (which I normally would for good hero/sandwiches). There aren't many options in the neighborhood; most of the delis serve dry, pre-cooked, subpar chicken cutlets. I took a shot and tried Ricky's Cafe. To my surprise the cutlet was fresh cooked and juicy! It was under seasoned, nothing a little salt and pepper couldn't fix. The roll also steamed a bit in the to-go foil but was fresh otherwise. Okay. Sometimes they are kind of rude here. Sometimes I have felt rushed or like the wait staff is grumpy, especially weekend breakfast/brunch. At slower times, like in the afternoon, service has been kinder. Once, they let a friend and I sit for a long time just drinking coffee and talking. On a wet, snowy day seeking refuge from the cold, I headed straight for Ricky's Cafe. The Lemon Chicken Piccata was sooo good. I had a hard time deciding since the Penne Pomodoro and Grilled Salmon are also my favorites. They also have great espresso and IPAs which makes it a go-to for breakfast, lunch or dinner. As soon as you walk in, they greet you by your name with a smile. Ricky's feels like family. I love grabbing a seat by a window, enjoying delicious food and watching people passing by. Sad to say that our most recent visit to Ricky's was diappointing. The waitress was unfriendly and she appeared annoyed by simple requests such as napkins. This level of service also extended to the cashier. The place is filthy with a thick layer of dust and grease covering the window sills next to the tables. The blinds are also coated in dirt. The food was bland and void of any finishing touches such as lettuce, tomato, pickles etc. My sandwich arrived sitting in the middle of an empty plate. Lastly, although I did not request toasted bread the bread on my sandwich arrived toasted. I want to like Ricky's but at this point I will not be returning. read more

There's a reason this place is so mediocrely rated. It's because that's how mediocre it is. I ordered pancakes and eggs after they informed me they didn't have two other items I tried to order. This was at 10 am, which is ridiculous. The pancakes were okay, the eggs came on the pancake which meant yolk was running on the pancakes. Absurd. The eggs were mediocre once I did end up eating it. The coffee was really watered down and they served it with lukewarm milk, no cream available. Maybe the Colombian food fares better but the American diner food was woeful. I'll be honest, when trying Ricky's for the first time my expectations were pretty low. This is an area that is sorely lacking in good breakfast options so I figured these folks couldn't pull it off either. I hate to say it but I was right. Question: When you are seated at a table that is dirty and need to ask to have it cleaned...what first impression does that give you? What about when they don't completely clean this table even after you ask? This request also so completely distracted the person seating us that she failed to leave us each a menu. If you read the previous reviews you'll see all the same complaints I experienced: Eggs over medium cooked as over easy with runny whites, my requested "extra crispy" potatoes had one solid strip of inedible grill char..not even attached to actual potatoes. The rest of the cubes ranged from overly soft to completely uncooked. Asked for ketchup and hot sauce. The waitress seemed irritated and grabbed the ketchup from the table next to ours. Obviously I saw no hot sauce. My English muffin had a tiny bit of butter on one side, none on the other, while my husband's toast arrived cold with no butter on it or on the side. This all might sound petty but when I bother to go out to eat I expect it to be a reasonably decent experience. Many people suggest the cook needs more help and maybe the waitstaff could also benefit from having a busboy on weekends. Sounds like a good idea to me. So many people praise this place for being cheap. I left still hungry so I can't see how that makes for a great value. I hope someone in this area figures out how to do a solid basic breakfast that is fairly reliable. Not looking for anything fancy...just simple, comforting food. read more

Horrible horrible horrible service ever. Me and my husband went there for the first time. And I must say this is the worst place I have been to in my life. We order the western omelette which was ridiculous. They didn't even cook well. Freaking ham smells like it has not been refrigerated all night. Guess what even though we were eating that omelette we found a hair on it. We complain to the server but she was just acting like she didn't see any hair on it. And she told us to find a hair. They should definitely hire good staff who knows how to behave with the customer. Also we order the pancake , after one bite of that pancake my husband was speechless. It was all burnt and doesn't even taste like the pancake. I order the turkey cheese burger. And the turkey smells and it was not even cooked. After going to this place I felt like I will never ever had a burger in my life. It was that horrible. Worst experience and food ever. I think this place should have 0 star. They don't even deserve one star. They didn't even pay attention what customer was trying to explain. I think they should hire well enough staff to take care of the customer. HIDDEN GEM IN JACKSON HEIGHTS. I was so hesitant to write a review because Ricky's is my best kept secret. I love it here. Everyone is so warm and friendly. Their food is amazing and so cheap. Anytime I go, I am not disappointed. They are very accommodating. I am making it my mission to try everything on their menu. My favorites so far are their burgers (cheap and huge!!) I am also obsessed with the chicken Milanese on a hero. Yum!! Pasta is delicious. Their breakfast food has a great diner like quality as well. I really appreciate the quality of the food at Ricky's. I have lived in the neighborhood for a few years. Since I work from home, and don't often get lunch breaks I have ordered in from a lot of different places. I have eaten at Ricky's before, but it had been awhile and it's the first time I ordered delivery. (I ordered The Tuna salad sandwich, soup of the day and mint lemonade. ) I realized that the quality of Ricky's food compared to other diners is much better. Here's why: - they don't oversaturate their food. For example the tuna salad wasn't drowning in mayo. - There's a certain taste that often comes with diner food, but their food doesn't have that. - They branch out from standard fare and offer things I can look forward to. For example, I was surprised by the mint lemonade. It was literally chopped up mint leaves and there were beautiful bits of lemon. It was gorgeous. Their green sauce is so good, it has a fresh from the garden flavor that is very addictive that whenever i eat there I always ask for it, or try to order something where it would be required. I think they make this too. I love that their food doesn't leave me with a feeling of 'satisfied yet my arteries are greased.' The staff there are also wonderful, the ladies are very warm and friendly. Since you sit where you like you may need to make sure they know you're there. But honestly after a week's worth of working on stressful projects and having to order in, (from other deli's, diners, thai, mexican you name it I ordered from there) Ricky's and 2 other places are high up on my list. This place is so much better and cheaper than going to Dunkin Donuts or another quick stop fast food place. Support local business. I would like for people who have read the negative reviews below to go past them and try Ricky's for yourself. I've been coming to Ricky's for 15 years and have watched it go from good, to great. Most recently Ricky's menu has changed from straight diner menu to a more eclectic, comprehensive, something-for-everyone menu. They have not once failed me. NOT ONCE. With their new menu, they have a lovely grilled salmon. As most of us know, it's hard to cook salmon. You either overcook or you OVERCOOK it. It is gold medal consistent every.single.time, moist, tender and deli-f**king-licious. I've tried almost everything on the new menu and I can easily say, each item has as much care in preparation, presentation and taste. Every dish is made with love you'd think they were gaming for a michelin star, which they deserve! In addition to this, their staff is incredibly friendly and thorough. The chef and owner comes out and greets their customers frequently. They are personable and attentive with smiles on their faces.
