I took my 2.5 year old Wolverine 1000 Mile cap toe work boots for resoleing and repair. I work in construction and the boots were in bad shape. It had scuffs all over, caked with dirt/mud, and heels and soles worn all the way down. The shop owner quoted me $89, which was a average price for the area (I called around a few other shops). I also requested a new more durable sole and re-polishing. I took it in on a Wednesday and it was ready by Friday. When I picked it up it looked brand new. The quality was outstanding. I wish I took a before photo to show the difference. He also charged me less than what was quoted, even with an upgrade sole and polish. I will be coming back in the future. read more

I drove to Rico's Shoe Services to get a quote for a bag repair and was disappointed with the experience. When I entered the store, nobody was at the front counter for about 40 seconds to a minute. After waiting, I finally called out to see if anyone was there. Eventually, I was helped by the owner's son, but he was unable to provide a quote for the repair. I suggested that he take a quick photo of the bag and send it to his father so I wouldn't have to make another trip just to receive pricing information. In today's digital age, where photos and videos are commonly used for estimates and consultations, this seemed like a reasonable request. Unfortunately, he refused. What frustrated me most was the lack of effort to find a solution or accommodate a customer who had taken the time to come into the store. The situation could have been handled much differently and would have reflected far better customer service. As I was leaving, I informed the owner's son that I would be leaving a review. I brought one of my Jimmy Choo lace up heels in for him to fix one of the laces where the leather was coming off, he gave it a week for pick up. when I came to pick it up He wrapped a big thick leather cord around it. It was so big and bulky like the thickness of a pencil. I asked him to please remove that and if he could do it more thin, matching the rest of the cord he freaked out didn't wanna do it said it's $50 or he'll cut it off and I can take my business elsewhere. I asked him to please just fix it and I would pay the $50 if it looked like $50 worth of craftsmanship. He kept it there for another week. I went to go pick it up and he handed me my shoe with the cord, cut off and all the glue stuck to the leather. Do not take your shoes to hand if you want quality work. He is an asshole. read more

Rico has ably repaired a backpack that was falling apart, a leather jacket that had a tear, and a few other things. But I knew I had to leave him a good review when my dog chewed a leather strap that attached a hood to a raincoat--the best and coolest and most expensive raincoat I have ever had. For reasons of proximity to my office, I originally brought the strap to another shoe repair in town. They said they would have to source the leather. Weeks went by. Nothing. I called. "We're still looking." Weeks later, I gave up and just said "I'll take it to my neighborhood shoe repair." I brought it to Rico and told him about my difficulty (and where I had originally taken the strap). He rolled his eyes and said "I'll have it for you Saturday." And he did. When I went back to ask Rico about it, he told me I was wrong and that I had purchased a navy purse, and he just color matched the inside tag. He would not back down. And was absolutely zero help. I have supported this small business for over a decade. But I won't any longer. I bought two sets of heel strip inserts to prevent heel slippage. $3.50 a set. I asked that they be inserted to my two pairs of shoes with shoemaker glue so the inserts won't just slide off after wearing. $4 to apply for each set! And when I picked them up. The brand new, nude suede pair had some dark marks from handling and gluing the inserts. I pointed this out and was told they didn't touch them. But there is no other explanation since the marks weren't there before and they are now. I don't mind too much the absurd cost to use some glue because I'm supporting a small business. But the poor customer service is a problem. Get what you pay for and go to Deno's for shoe repair. read more

Word of caution. I've only used this place twice - first time was to replace a rivet that fell off. Had to take it to another place because they added a rivet that was too small and fell out. I noticed it immediately but they shrugged it off. So strike 1... ...But I saw lots of boots and shoes so recently I took a pair of expensive boots with a small surface scratch for a bit of cleaning. I've owned these boots for 10 years and wear them only on special occasions, never even been worked on because they look new. So I was blown away when I got them back. They painted them brown. Not kidding.... They just took spray paint to them. Ruined the boots beautiful honey color finish. Of course I immediately complained. They said we can fix this come back tomorrow. Next day they were the same.... No difference - they just looked dull. Still charged me btw. So I took my boots to a specialized cobbler in Ft.Worth and they just laughed and confirmed the guy basically painted them - they showed me the paint that was probably used. They were surprised given any reputable cobbler looking at boots this expensive would have 1) done this right, or 2) refused the repair. Maybe even suggested someone else (though good karma is bad for business I guess). No idea yet how these boots will look after this mess. So word of caution here. They might be ok for some small stuff - but they lost my business and warranted a bad review given they offered to fix and did not. read more

After a recent move, I discovered that mice in a rented storage unit chewed through my new knee high UGG boots. Rico patched the boot where you can't even tell, and they are still comfortable. He saved me $200 plus tax for a new pair. So grateful. My only complaint is the sign on the door did not reflect the actual hours, but the work is impeccable. I dread the day Rico retires because I have lived in Dallas 30 years and never found any shop close to this quality of repair. If they can't fix it, they will tell you. Very honest also. FYI the mice also got to my Northface coat and a cashmere full length coat. PSA -- If you ever have to use a storage unit, be very very careful about storing wool, down, or your mattresses. This guy's a complete idiot. I have been going here for many years with only a few minor complaints but recently I took a pair of my wife's high heel wedge shoes to be repaired and cleaned. The repair was ok but in cleaning the shoes, he completely stripped off all the finish on the wood which is most of the shoe. Now it's just raw exposed wood. Who does that? Cleaning and stripping are two very different things. When I took them back to find out what they were thinking, all he could say is they were very dirty. They just had normal scuff marks mostly from driving, nothing that required sandpaper to take care of. Now I have to find someone who refinishes wood to hopefully get them looking like they used to. Unless you want your shoes completely altered and/or ruined, don't take anything here. read more

This was a very disappointing experience with this company and the owner Rico. Rico lied right to my face after he did sloppy work on my dress shoes. He told me some shoes make this noise. He changed the sole protectors on the shoes and on one shoe did not seal the sole protector properly. Therefore when I walked one of the shoes on my foot would make a noise indicative of air because the sole protector was not sealed properly. I went to a separate company today and the manager told me "whenever he put the bottom part on (sole protector), he didn't seal it all the way." When I have more time to learn how to put the audio recording online. I will do so to back up everything I'm typing. I will never walk foot in your company again. read more

The soles of my expensive leather shoes literally disintegrated as I wore them to a fancy dinner. There were piles of black soles under my chair and wherever I walked. It was actually pretty funny except that it was formal dinner and you were not supposed to wear disintegrating shoes. At least it was not specified in the invitation. I really like the shoes because the leather is so soft and comfortable, so I took them to Hillside Shoe to see if they could salvage them. They did an excellent repair job--stripped off the old soles, put new ones on and now the shoes look professional and feel great. I am very pleased. I let it go and just wanted to have good quality work the place had good reviews so I left my bag. When I came back I found at the bag has been cut right in the middle and re-stitched terribly leaving the bag worse off than it was just to install little feet in the bottom. When I proceeded to tell Rico about the stitching and how it wasn't stitched clean and I wasn't happy with the work he kept interrupting me and kept raising his voice kept having an attitude and telling me that he could uninstall the feet but it would cost double. When I dropped the items off I was told that they would polish the strap on the purse but couldn't replace a broken piece. I was ok with that. I am happy to pay for quality. This was NOT quality. Someone at one of the aforementioned shoe places whispered "Shoe Repair on Mockingbird across from Albertson's" and I B-lined to Rico's. Dropped my shoes off at noon, picked them up at 4, wore them out on the town from 10-2am ... strutted, pranced and danced around Victory Park and they are still looking good. Not only did he replace my heel caps for $8, he also covered some scratches on the heel, which was above and beyond what I asked for or expected. Super friendly, affordable service. This business had come highly recommended from two different sources so I felt good about using them. Guy behind the counter was pretty dry, said he didn't know if he had the closure and he didn't have time to check, he'd call and let me know. 2 weeks later, no call so I drop in to check on the bag. He returned the purse and said his wife had called to tell me they did not have the closure. No record of missed calls or messages on my phone.
