I thought my Wolverine 1000 Mile boots were done for... They were not even 6 months old when the leather soles started wearing away. Eventually holes began to appear. After doing some research about this issue, most suggested that I have them re-soled. I stopped wearing them at the end of last year and they were forgotten about in my closet. The replacement boots I had received for Christmas last year did not even compare. I knew I needed to have them repaired. For almost 2 months I kept looking for a cobbler that would not charge too much for the work I needed done. Not only would they need to re-sole the boot, but also patch the holes that were now going through the entire sole. Needless to say I found the right cobbler, right away he noticed the quality of the leather on the boots. He was also quick to point out that I should have brought them in when I first received them. Leather soles wear out much quicker than rubber soles. I took the boots in on Saturday afternoon, he said they may be ready by Monday or Tuesday at the latest. I told him I was in no rush so I would pick them up Wednesday. When I walked into his store this afternoon, my boots were sitting on a shelf behind the counter. He came out of the back room to greet me, I told him I spotted my boots the second I walked in! They were just sitting there looking as good as they did the day I took them out of the box! I wish I had a before and after pic, I mean he cleaned them up and buffed out all the scratches. I was really impressed with the results, and I as I told him... I am now a customer of his that will always be more than happy to refer my friends and family to his shop! read more

Initial results are good. They replaced the tips on the heels of my pumps for only $7.60. They look great and the price was half of what Rawhide in Lewisville charged. Oh, and the repair from Rawhide lasted for one whole use, so I hope these last longer. *fingers crossed* Update.... the fix lasted for one wearing. I took them back and he was kind enough to return my money, so he gets points for that. I would try again since this was the second time and second place that could not repair the shoe. Seems like it should be a simple fix. I ended up just buying new shoes. read more

This is definitely my go to for any kind of shoe or leather repair. No, he's not Mr Personality, but I wasn't there to find a new buddy. He's been doing this over 60 years, and he's a pro, believe me. One one occasion he repaired a lambskin jacket that had a horrible jagged tear in it, and now you can't even tell where it was. On another visit I brought in a one piece leather belt I had picked up in Florence Italy, needing 3 1/2 inches removed from the buckle end. He took it apart, made the cut and restitched it for am incredible $7.00. I highly recommend him. read more

It's an old fashioned looking store without much curb appeal, but the older gentleman does great work. He changed the tips on four of my shoes (pumps, wedges, and two booties) and he did a better job then the last store I used to go to. He polished the rest of the heal on my booties too so they look good overall. The cost is fair (not expensive but not cheap either) but it's good work. read more

This man really doesn't know anything about shoe. He probably just know know how to little problems. I brought in a pair of 1999 shoes. Which had crumble midsole due to aging. I went and got another midsole on my own. After collecting all the materials I came and visit this Me. Gaines guy. First he told me they were unfixable and just get a new pair. If you can't reglue a sole back on to a shoe what makes you a professional shoe repair? Because I had to take my shoes home and glue them myself with adhesive glue. If someone like me can do this surely a "professional" shoe repair man can right? First and worst shoe repair shop I've ever been too. read more

My husband has been going to Gaines for way over 20 years to have his cowboy boots resoled. He does a really good job. When you pay hundreds of dollars for boots and wear them everyday, it's great to have a place that can resole them for a resonable price. He has resoled between 8 - 10 pairs of boots over the years. Anytime we need our shoes fixed we take them to Mr. Gaines (not sure if that is really his name). He charges next to nothing and can fix just about any type of shoe. This shop is tiny and it seems they have been around forever - I think my mom took me here in kindergarten, over 20 years ago. I wish there were more small businesses like this and I'm happy that Gaines is still around. read more

The prices are cheap, the quality is okay, but the customer service is lacking at best. The lady who currently works there is snappy and quick to blame. I took two pairs of shoes to the store, and the lady told me that I they were not sure one could be fixed, but that she would call me later on. I specified that I needed to have them ready by a certain date, as I was leaving town. She did call when she said she would (+1), and said the shoes could be fixed (+2), and told me both paris would be ready in around a week (+1). But, around the time I wanted to go pick up the shoes, she called me again to tell me that they hadn't done the repair on the second pair of shoes yet (-2) because they needed my opinion on a detail. When I asked how long it would take for them to do the repair if I came in that day to give my opinion, she said it would take until after I left (-15). When I brought this up, the lady told me that it was essentially my fault because I hadn't come in earlier to pick up the first pair of shoes, at which point she could have asked me about the detail that she had previously not informed me about (-50). Not sure I'll return here to fix my shoes. read more

When I dropped off my favorite dress boots (stiletto heeled), I was a little put off. The man working was a bit dry and almost snippy, but perhaps he had a bad morning. He wasn't sure if he could restitch the tongue to the boot 1. the shape of the shoe and 2. I wear a very small shoe and he wasn't sure it would fit on his machine. He asked when I needed the boots and when I didn't have an actual date, he told me I could come back in 2 days. When I picked up my boots, he had sewn the tongue in perfectly (no visible marks), had replaced the taps (I had requested this), and fixed some areas on the patent leather. I actually had to search for some areas I knew were scuffed and damaged. I was about to ask him what he suggested I do to fix them.. Very pleased indeed. He was very nice this afternoon, so the other day must have been a bad day, like everyone has. The cost was so inexpensive. The last place I used had charged me double for less work, and the other place destroyed my best shoes during a simple re-tap. read more
