I know I'm supposed to be here for the pastries but the hot buffet section is so friggin good and the HOT SAUCE they offer for the empanadas is fresh, vinegary, and SO delicious. Not only are the staff always welcoming, pleasant, and patient (especially to non-Spanish speakers) but they're the kind of people who are clearly pleased to have customers who are not of the group they normally cater. This is where I discovered that Columbian bakeries don't just do cakes and sweets, but also specialize in savory snacks like empanadas and homemade chorizo. Ohmygod the homemade chorizo here is to die for; the skin is crisp, and the spices and meat flavorful in a way that is just amazing. 1 piece of chorizo comes with a baked potato for $3 (you need it to absorb the delicious oil) but I usually forego that. Pair that with a plantain, and 2 empanadas, and it's just a nice quick meal for about $7. (I know you may think, 1 pc of chorizo is not really enough, but it's the kind of thing that SITS in your stomach once you've had it). There's something about the smells and tastes from one's childhood that has the ability to make just about any other piece of food pale in comparison. I grew up in Woodside and, on weekends, I would wake up early to go help my father clean the bar next to this Columbian bakery. Every Saturday morning, I'd wake up at the crack of dawn and clean up the back room of the bar, counting the minutes until I could leave work and head into Rico Pan to sample their goods. The empanadas from Rico Pan are, without a doubt, one of the things I'd want at my "last meal." I'll be honest...after all these years, I still don't know what's in them. I actually don't think I'd want to know. Although fried, they are not overly doughy and the filling is perfectly seasoned. If you're not careful, you could polish off 10 in one sitting without even realizing it. Other items such as the chorizo and the arepas also provide the kind of authentic flavors and textures that you would only expect from an establishment that knows its stuff. Still to this day, I make it a point to stop by when traveling home. If you are in Woodside, you should make it a point as well. read more

My go to place for arepas con queso and buñuelos. The arepas are sweet, and well balanced with the mozzarella on top. The buñuelos are soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, also perfect in taste. The prices are good. Will be coming back here and trying the empanadas. I used to go here as a little girl with my family right after sunday mass at St. Sebastians church across the street. I went there last week, and all of the childhood memories of these delicious baked goods came back to me. Their buñuelos are the best! They are always fresh, crispy crust and soft inside when you pull it apart to dip in coffee or chocolate. I love their hot chocolate; it's hot but not scalding-hot and its delicious. They make really good empanadas too, the filling has the perfect amount of meat and potatoes. The mildly spicy sauce complements the empanadas pretty well. Let me start by saying, i've never eaten anything here other than the empanadas, but the empanadas are so good that i'm willing to give this bakery 4 stars based solely on them. At $1 each it is a bargain considering they are a decent size about the size of half of a banana. And yes they are really delicious. The shell is deep fried, light and flaky. True it can be a little greasy, but it's still makes for a yummy snack. Also i find that it goes perfectly with their hot sauce which is not like most vinegar based hot sauces rather it is tangy and very flavorful. This Bakery has been around as long as I can remember and I'm 25! Since I was a kid, until now, this bakery never fails to delivery fresh and tasty Colombian delights! The buñuelos, pan de Bonos, pan de quesos, pan de yuca.. All of it!! Delicious. I used to love getting this long loaf of bread that has melted cheese in the middle of it omg. They are distinctly the best colombian bakery in New York. Empanada wraps are homemade with cornmeal. (Chicken and beef will knock your socks off.) Their homemade hot sauce is ridiculous.
