    Churros
    Alex Z.

I was in Oakland and I was really craving some churros this guy popped up on my Yelp and decided why not. First off you got people lined up, waiting to get their churros and I can see why, he makes them right on the spot so they're nice and hot. I asked the guy how much and I asked for the 5 dollar bag. I thought it might be like a few pieces, but no he gave me this big bag filled with a bunch of them!!! The most delicious and inexpensive churros I have ever gotten. Definitely come here if you want a whole weeks worth of churros, well not technically if I could I'd eat them all.

The churros here are by far the best churros you will ever have, trust me. They are even better than the ones in Mexico. I don't even know how much they are just 'cause when we go we tell the churro man to give us $3 dollars worth and he loads up a bag full of them. They're warm and crispy and are perfectly cooked on the inside (no gooeyness, which I hate). He can be found everyday after 4:30pm and I believe he leaves at 8:00pm, he never makes it until 8 though because he runs out of them...Sometimes he switches locations, but we've found him here for sure on the weekends. He's between the All Green Produce market and the Launderland and Coin Up Laundromat. The address of the laundromat is 4065 Foothill Blvd. Don't let the neighborhood scare you away lol..

Finally found him at his new location on 54th/International...best churros in the bay!

    Finally found the churro man!

Difficult to find, but def. worth it! I was expecting a sign on the churro stand, but no sign. You literally just gotta spot him in front of a silver cart/stand. You order by the dollar and he just eyeballs how much to put in the bag. So just tell him $1 or $2, $5 etc. I usually get $1-2 and it's enough for like 3 people. It's crunchy, crispy, delicious and not doughy like Costco if you know what I mean!

THE BEST CHURROS IN TOWN HANDS DOWN!!! The only sad thing is that it's hard to find him lol. We came here on a Sunday and he had a line, don't bother going to a bakery because this churro stand is the best. Super friendly man. Cheap and delicious, $5 dollars for a bag and you still have leftovers (maybe). If you get anything from Tio Juan's taco truck make sure Rico Churros is you dessert. It's worth it and they are crunchy.

Lets face it: Fresh delicious churros are a rarity. Besides Costco churros, it is so hard to locate anything remotely churroey anywhere to satisfy that fried pastry craving. But its all good because Rico is here to save the day! Located in a parking lot next to a grocery store, you can get steaming hot fresh, crispy churros fried to order! These are way better (100x better) than the churro recipes you'll find online. How it works is you park your car in the parking lot/accross the street. Tell rico how many dollars worth of churros you want, he'll fry it up and you'll enjoy! For new comers, 2 or 3 dollars worth will get you plenty, a bag full (literally) of churros. Hungry? No Problem, he's here everyday from 4-9pm (or until he runs out, usually at 8-8:30). I can't believe I know all this cause I've been here so many times. Support these small places! try it and you won't be disappointed.

Stopped off here while I was stuck in traffic. Saw Rico making some big arm gestures (refilling the batter into the massive pump) and as we inched closer to his stand, the smell of sugary, deep-fried goodness just filled the car. Look no further, this is legit. It's cheap, (very cheap) and very fresh (he pumps the batter into the frying oil in front of you)! Not to mention, he is a very, very friendly. *NOTE: it does get greasy... For $5, he stuffs a brown, sandwich bag FULL of these crispy, golden, sugary, delicious bites. It is enough to satisfy 4 people (easily). If you're going solo, think about ordering less. ...also as a general rule with fried foods, it's not good to reheat, so try to finish the entire bag before it gets cold. You have permission to skip your next meal in order to make room for these churros. If you want to know what a good churro should taste like, try here. But be prepared to make Rico's the last place you "try" in Oakland. It's THAT good.

Highly recommended! Best churros ever. I used to buy his churros years ago in Vallejo. I was happy to see him at my nephews party.

The real deal. Handmade. Analog. He hand mixes the batter, pushes it into a wooden device and squeezes it out into a cauldron of hot, bubbling oil. There WILL be a line, but you won't be mad because it's enjoyable watching the process. And once you sink your teeth into that hot, golden, sweet goodness you'll be hooked. NEVER eat an old churro again. This is how they were meant to be eaten, hot, crispy and fresh. The churros dying under hot lights are for suckas!

A few years ago, there was definitely a dip in communication when I was trying to order a birthday cake, but since then, I've had the pleasure of enjoying Gregory's treats many times. His cheesecake is truly unlike any I've ever had. The chocolate brownies and chocolate chip cookies are so good, they'll make you feel like you're not even on planet Earth! Seriously, they're that delicious. And the chocolate cake? It tastes like it was baked by a sweet Southern grandmother. It literally melts in your mouth. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that every time I go, I buy all four items and happily eat them over the next few days! Hands down, Gregory's is the BEST BAKERY IN OAKLAND. We went mainly for drinks and tried a latte, tiramisu latte, and a Spanish latte. The tiramisu latte and Spanish latte were both really good and definitely my favorites. It comes unsweetened, so I asked for it to be sweetened and it was great after that. The vanilla matcha was fine too, just not my top pick. They're also dropping a new Ramadan drink soon, a date latte, which sounds really good and I'll probably come back just to try that. Overall, great drinks and a nice place to hang out.

They had a large selection I couldn't try them all haha. I would love to try more tea and coffee options as well. Go and try out several different pastries and discover what you like. It's cheaper than buying an airplane ticket to try another countries culture and delights. They also have outside seating which is especially nice on a beautiful day. Overall, it's been a good experience every time. Parking can be challenging depending on the time of day. Most of the parking is on the street, so you'll need to keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists while looking for a spot. That's probably the biggest inconvenience of visiting this place. There is usually a 15 to 20-minute wait whenever we come for dessert, but we've always been seated within the quoted wait time, which we appreciate. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so the dining area can feel crowded. Tables are very close together, and you're practically sitting back-to-back with other guests. Because of this, the noise level can get pretty high, and it's easy to overhear conversations from nearby tables. The desserts are the highlight here. The BingSu is excellent, and the lava cake is one of our favorites. The menu is accessed through a QR code, making ordering simple and convenient. Food portions are decent, although prices are definitely on the premium side. Service is efficient, and the food and desserts usually arrive pretty quickly. We used to go to their city location regularly, but over the years we've found ourselves visiting this location more often because the area feels more comfortable and convenient for us. That has made this our go-to spot whenever we're craving dessert. Overall, this is a great place for dessert. The quality of the desserts keeps us coming back, but the difficult parking situation and cramped seating prevent it from being a full 5-star experience. Would definitely return for the BingSu and lava cake.

My personal favorite is the Kyoto Matcha - the matcha is high-quality, with a vivid green color and rich flavor that balances beautifully with the creamy cheesecake base. The Original is a classic for a reason with deeply caramelized top and creamy interior. I also tried the Iribancha, a roasted green tea flavor. It's intense, smoky, and unique..maybe not one I could finish in one sitting, but definitely memorable and recommend for those who want that earthy/smoky taste. The truffle was also a standout, adding just enough umami to round out the sweetness. Preorders drop via Instagram (@basukucheesecakes) and sell out lightning-fast.
