I'll never say no to dessert. So when I found out about this cart that sells hot churros, made-to-order, I made it a priority to visit! This small but mighty operation is quick at serving delicious sweets like churros with a variety of fillings and fried dessert plantains. I walked away with one of each of the churros and loved them all! I was worried they might be too sweet with the fillings but surprisingly they were not. These are priced at $2 for the original churro and $2.25 for the filled ones. Still very reasonable despite a recent price change (that isn't reflected on their menu yet so I'm guesstimating) Their convenient location in the parking lot of the Cardenas market just gave me an excuse to pop into the grocery store. They set up on the corner of the Cardenas market, which is perfect because we were looking for a treat after all that hard grocery shopping lol! I tried the strawberry churro and it was so good. The filling wasn't too sweet which is perfect because the sugar churro was already hitting the spot. I also noticed that they had platinos con lechera and I 100% will be trying that next time! BEST CHURROS OF MY LIFE!!!!! Who knew a little food cart on the side of Cardenas market could be this life changing. The husband wife duo are nice, and they keep a real simple menu. Plain churros, filled churros, or fried bananas with condensed milk. Plain will run you $1.50, and the filled ones are $2 each. One is a perfect size treat, but tbh you won't be able to just get one. They're piping hot, so make sure you give it a second to cool before biting into. The caramel one is the oneeeeee! But they do have chocolate, vanilla and strawberry as options for filling. I'm so lucky to live right down the street, and Jose makes the best hot and fresh churros right at his cart located in the corner of Cardenas parking lot. Very friendly people and freshly made to order. They make the dough right as you order and you have many options for filling or served plain. Only for about $2 a churro! Can't get these anywhere else that I know of. I've been to many festivals etc where they charge 4x the price and they aren't fresh like these. My favorite is the caramelo (caramel) filling that's made with goat milk. (It's like dulce de leche but warrrrrm.) The people who run it are also the owners, which means they're invested in creating a friendly, community atmosphere and gladly cater to special requests. You know its legit when its a small cart on the corner of a street. These churros are always made FRESH. Piping hot on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. Besides the typical plain cinnamon sugar, they also have different flavors like caramel, chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla they they fill on the inside. Considering how small/short these are, $2 per stick is kinda steep. Don't get me wrong these taste really good, but each of their sticks is like 1/3rd (not half) the length of a Disneyland/Costco churro. I have lived in Oakland for 20 years and honestly, I have seen the reviews years back and always had it in the back of my mind to check them out since they were close. However, I never got the chance because I would always forget. However, last week, my daughter wanted churros, so I made the decision to finally try it out. OMG!!! Probably not the best idea because now we are addicted!! They were fresh and hot. My oldest decided to try the caramel filled one while my youngest and I got the plain. Well, they were crispy on the outside and soft and doughy in the middle. It was sooooooo good, we went back the next day and got more. Yikes!! I would have taken a picture but they never seem to last long enough for us to take a picture. Our first experience with churros was at Disneyland years ago and we fell in love but throughout the years, the quality at Disney started to decline and the price increased, and I wasn't a fan anymore. So, in my eyes, these churros here is IT!!!! Price isn't bad. $1.50 for each plain and $2 for ones with filling. However, I will note that the churros aren't like the super long ones but I think they are still fair with the prices and honestly, two of those were more than enough for us.
