Filled churros with caramel and chocolate
    Odalis G.

If you're looking for the best filled churros in Oakland, this is it! We've been coming here for years and always get ours filled with caramel and chocolate--fresh, warm, and perfect every time. Other spots don't compare. ($3 regular / $4 filled)

Small food stand across the street from the bart and many outdoor tables to sit and eat. My friend was craving churros so I went with her and we shared the following: -Original churro: Good for satisfying a little sweet tooth. Not too sweet. A little chew to it, but in a good and satisfying way. Can't go wrong! -Vanilla churro: Favorite! It was creamy, and even though it looks like it would be sweetness overload it wasn't too sweet at all! Like a vanilla pudding stuffed into a churro. Can't go wrong. -Strawberry churro: We thought this was going to be cream based, similar to the vanilla churro, but it was jelly based (no cream). I thought it was pretty good, but my friend sensed a bit of bitterness to it (I didn't taste it) so I finished it! My friend's craving was satisfied and she thought it was better than a lot of overpriced churros she's had elsewhere! Very quiet (only one couple who was finishing their churros) when we got there around 7pm on a Friday night.

We visited this food stand on Sunday, for a chocolate filled churro and fried plantains. Street parking was free and easy right across the street in the afternoon. Service was quick and efficient. They accept credit cards for payment, which is convenient. And outdoor seating was plentiful just outside the Fruitvale Public Market in front of the food stand. The churro and plantains tasted freshly made and delicious, satisfying treats to enjoy in a casual and carefree atmosphere.

There's a sign on the back of the Churros Mexicanos cart that says "Los mejores churros rellenos" (The best filled churros), and the tagline is 100% true! I've been coming here for a while, and the churros are always fresh, hot, delicious, and consistent. They offer both regular churros and churros rellenos--filled with vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or caramel. They're all great, but my favorites are the chocolate-filled churro and the classic unfilled one. They also serve plátanos, but to be honest, I've never tried them because I love the churros too much. I always tell myself I'll give them a shot next time, but the smell of those freshly fried churros gets me every time. The cart is conveniently located near the Fruitvale BART station, with easy parking. The woman who works there is incredibly kind and always so sweet. No matter how busy it gets, she greets everyone with a smile, making the experience even better. If you're in the area, this place is a must-visit.

Churros Mexicanos - Fruitvale Public Market, Oakland, CA Rating: 10 out of 10 This little cart is a whole vibe. Tucked inside the Fruitvale Public Market, Churros Mexicanos always has a line when I show up and another one when I leave--and honestly, I get it. I ordered four plain churros and four churros rellenos in vanilla, fresca, caramelo, and chocolate. Everything was made fresh on the spot. They were steaming hot, soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, and hit with the perfect amount of cinnamon and sugar. The flavors didn't taste processed or overly sweet. Just comforting and real, like a bite of childhood. My son loves this place too. He always gives it a 10 out of 10. This time, I agree. If you're in Oakland and want something sweet that feels like home, this is it. A true Oakland gem. I'll definitely be back.

Our church catered their churro truck. They were efficient and fast and kept the line moving. Churros were so good. Crispy on the outside. Good and balanced texture on the inside. I got the caramel filling, expecting it to be very sweet. It was perrrrfect! This is probably one of the best churros I've ever had.

Churros: Im a churros lover and this was FRESH!! They literally fry it right in front of you. And its so cheap! I'd be careful though, its piping hot . But it cools down surprisingly fast. But genuinely is really hot and I bit a few right when they gave it to me and had to toss it like a potato around my mouth to avoid burns. Delicious churros, crunchy and sweet, I'd come back for more. That was just the regular, imagine the other flavors! Extra In a pretty nice Mexican community They accept debit, I gave them my card and they did the paying thing for me. Wait time is fast obv 5/5 churros

Hot, crispy, and delicious. Quick and friendly service. The churro had a great flavor, clean oil, nice dusting of cinnamon sugar on top. Crispy on the outside with a soft interior. Perfect $3 dessert.

Hot and fresh churros with many filling options -strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, and caramel. Each was only $3 and they accept cash and card. This was a sweet treat and would love to get back, definitely check this our as it's made to order and fresh!

    Plantanos
    N M.

We had the plain churro, hot and smothered with cinnamon sugar. It was perfect - proper crunchy exterior, good balance of savory and sweet, and full of texture and flavor. The woman behind the counter is highly competent and very nice. The plantanos was by far the most delicious though! It was served perfectly caramelized and drizzled with sweetened condensed milk. Food of the gods! Warning: be careful not to burn your tongue! Everything is *very* fresh from the fryer!

$4 each for the filled ones
    Brianna R.

Flavor wise, always excellent. With inflation though, the prices keep rising and the churros are getting smaller for sure. I've been coming since I was a kid and was shocked at the size this last time. Still love this place though. There are other carts as well nearby, but I like this place. They take cash & card.

She was very friendly, full of smiles and efficient!

Made to order, flavorful, a large portion of what became my favorite churros spot in Oakland (no more waiting to enjoy them in Lathrop). I purchased 3 total-caramel and strawberry flavors- whew wee they were so fresh and hot! The parking can be a challenge up close, , but there is plenty in the area, and I'd park around the corner to enjoy this spot! My service was excellent! I'll be back and I'll return!!

I love their caramel filled churro. The chocolate one it's kind of like watery chocolate, but the caramel is the absolute best. Totally worth it.

The bowls are filling, nutritious and flavor bombs. I also love indulging in their agua frescas. Our personal favorites are the strawberry horchata (a MUST if it's available) and their coconut ice coffee. Refreshing beverages to help soothe your tongue because the sliced fresh chiles on fried fish bowl are indeed lethal. Overall consistently delicious. It does get packed but if you come early around 4-5pm you will beat the crowd.

We tried coming here on a Sunday and couldn't find parking for 15+ minutes so we ended up leaving. There is some street parking but we prefer to park in the lot. Once you get called up you put your receipt in the basket that the worker hands you and tell them what kind of meat you want in your tacos. Today I tried the asada, carnitas, Al pastor, and tripa. They all were delicious, my favorite was the tripa. Portions are good ($4.50/taco) and they have a variety of salsas, jalapeños, limes, etc in the seating area once you exit. I also got a hibiscus (Jamaica) agua fresca that was good. They do accept credit card but they'll charge a $1 fee so try to bring cash if you can. Definitely recommend, this is now one of my top taco spots in Oakland.

It's a lively, energetic establishment,…read moreand even though there were at least 20 people ahead of me in line, the wait gave me a chance to observe the well-orchestrated kitchen operations. Everything looked authentic, fresh, and incredibly appetizing. When it was finally my turn to order, I was especially pleased to see the variety of meats available. The suadero immediately caught my attention. It appeared to be the proper cut of meat--a cut that surprisingly few places in the Bay Area use, and even fewer seem to know how to cook properly. I also noticed that they use a traditional "disco"--the large, deep, circular pan with a dome-shaped center--to cook the suadero. At that point, my mouth was watering. We ordered a burrito, three asada tacos, two suadero tacos, two cabeza tacos (meat from cow's head), one lengua (beef tongue), and one tripa (beef small intestine). I also asked for some of the salsa available behind the counter where they serve your tacos, which turned out to be a delicious house-made habanero salsa. Unfortunately, not all that glitters is gold. As appetizing as everything looked, the meats simply weren't executed as well as I had hoped. The asada was dry and overcooked. The suadero was dry, tough, and overcooked. I was particularly looking forward to the tripa, but instead of the crispy, rich, savory flavor I normally associate with a great tripa taco, these were soft, soggy, fatty, and somewhat bland. One of the biggest disappointments was that all of the different cuts seemed to taste almost exactly the same. Part of the appeal of ordering tacos like suadero, cabeza, lengua, and tripa is experiencing the distinct character of each cut. Unfortunately, those differences were largely lost here. By the end of the meal, the dominant flavor in my mouth was simply grease, which made it difficult for the individual meats to shine. That said, there is a lot to like about Taquería El Paisa. I absolutely loved the décor and overall ambience. The restaurant has a genuine feel of as if you were in a Mercado in Mexico City, and that atmosphere adds a lot to the experience. I also really enjoyed the salsa bar, which offers a great variety of traditional taco accompaniments. The house-made habanero salsa, in particular, is excellent--bright, flavorful, and seriously spicy. A few drops on each taco is more than enough. Seriously, resist the temptation to douse your taco in it! I think Taquería El Paisa has tremendous appeal and a potential for the best taqueria in the Bay Area. The atmosphere is authentic, the selection of meats is impressive, and the presentation initially builds a lot of anticipation. What I would love to see is a little more attention given to the cooking techniques and handling of each individual cut. Better control of the cooking time, texture, and perhaps work on mastering how  the suadero, tripa, lengua, and cabeza can each maintain their own distinctive flavor and character. There's definitely something special here waiting to come through. With some refinement in the execution of the meats, Taquería El Paisa could really elevate the taco experience and turn that first impression of excitement into an equally impressive meal. Side note, is there a bathroom at this restaurant? I couldn't find one.

We decided on a whim to check it on a Friday night, and boy was I glad we went right when it opened. Since we didn't have a reso, we braved our walk in and already found several parties lined up along the fence from the entrance. As soon as they opened the front door they quickly seated everyone. At a quick glance the building looked like was repurposed from an old fire department. It had plenty of outdoor covered seating, and its interior boasted enormous high ceiling with beautiful decorations well illuminated by natural light. The menu was filled with delicious wholesome meals rendering us completely paralyzed with indecision. I talked my husband out of getting chips and salsa; instead we opted for the potato taquitos which were absolutely delightful - fried crispy to perfection juxtaposed with the warm comforting potato filling. The plate also came with a healthy portion of refried black beans, slaw and crema. Then next came our mains - fish tacos and half chicken over rice. Both were well portioned. The chicken was well seasoned packed with flavo and sat atop a mound of rice, black beans, some sort of greens and corn. The side of pickled carrots and onions added so much zest to an already phenomenal dish. We also loved being able to just use our hand to break apart the handmade moist tortillas into bite size pieces, scooping up all chicken rice mixture. The fish tacos were massive! I ended up removing most of the breading since I was starting to get full; the fish was very fresh and melted my mouth. The beet colored pickled onions that came with the tacos provided some acidity but also complexity. They have absolutely nailed each dish! Although I wasn't going to get any alcoholic drinks, our friendly and enthusiastic waitress got me to sign up for a passion fruit margarita with mezcal while my husband chose a Paloma. Both were outstanding and sent us both straight to sleep after dinner. Sadly we were so stuffed we didn't have get to order any desserts but there will always be a next time, 'cause I surely can't wait to go back!
