I hit Rico's for the first time, and I really enjoyed it. When I walked in, I felt like I had walked into a pub from a city back east. Rico's has a wooden tables, a large bar, shelves and shelves of books and a patio! A friend and I grabbed lunch and sat where we wanted. Keep in mind it is Pullman in the summer. After checking out the menu, I decided to order a burger. Rico's claims they have the best burgers in Pullman, and after yesterday, I would have to agree. I ordered a Western burger, a patty with Tillamook cheese, BBQ sauce and onion rings on the burger. The BBQ sauce was little too sweet for me, so next time I'll ask for a little bit on the side. Otherwise, the burger was still sooo good! I had been craving a really tasty, grilled burger and found it. The onion rings were also delicious, perfectly breaded and hot. I haven't seen many places serve steak fries, but Rico's has them. They were hot and crispy! Our server was attentive. Water and soda glasses were refilled several times on the hot day. Food came out quickly. I am bummed it took so long for me to stop by. read more

We stopped here for dinner while in town for work. The place had a good atmosphere but we sat outside since it was over 90 and the inside had no AC. They were out of a lot of the food options we wanted, the service was slow, and the food was less than satisfying. My buddy got a chicken sandwich which he enjoyed but I ordered the shrimp plate (since they were out of the lamb for the Greek sandwich and out of clams) and it was just frozen shrimp that was warmed up. I asked for a side salad as well and the server substituted my fries for the salad and then charged me for it. We ordered beers and had to ask three times for them plus the dipping sauces which they charged for as well before they were brought to us. I was also served a beer which I did not order and when I asked about it the server told me the taps were next to each other and they poured the wrong one. Instead of bringing me the one I ordered the sever walked away and still charged me for the one she brought. The experience was less than ideal and we won't be going back. read more

Horrible experience. First it took 30 minutes just for someone to serve us at our table. Then it took another 1.5 hours to get my food. How hard is it to make a BLT? I would never recommend this restaurant unless you enjoy waiting 2 hours for food. Poor poor poor service. read more

I've been going here for years. I love the food- cod or halibut and chips is my favorite. My teenagers prefer the burger with sauce, bacon and onion ring. Food is, ehh okay I guess. Not really impressed. Typical pub food. Kinda dirty inside. Service is really slow and they don't check on you after you get your food which leads to my biggest problem here. An employee called me in for parking on the street for 10 mins over 2 hours while I was inside trying to get my check and I got a ticket... all in all, a terrible experience. I really like Rico's atmosphere, and I do like that they have live music most nights of the week. Personally, I don't like the kind of music that's typical for this place - usually jazz or open mic (which will be a rotation of old-timers playing old-timey hits, or some college kid rapping over his iphone playlist). Rico's is a great alternative to the rapey college bars and urinal cake odor of the sports bars downtown. The food is pretty mediocre, but not bad. Don't expect much above typical bar food. Don't order mixed drinks at Ricos. The college students working here have no idea how to mix a cocktail. read more

Rico's Pub - Burgers Near Me - Pullman, Washington

No Star! So we came to the bar at 8:53am to possibly watch the Michigan vs Ohio game that starts at 9am. We're not familiar with the area as We are from California and came to Pullman to go to Apple Cup. But Yelp indicated that this is the only bar that's open right now. When we walked in - I saw an old couple seated on a table on a corner, three people seated in another corner and 4 people seated in the middle looking at menus. The bar opened at 8am. It was not crowded but you can tell people have been there because 2 tables have not been bussed. A grouchy rude female asked us for how many people in which I replied for 5. She took a long hard look at my family and told me that it will be an hour wait and she is not sitting anyone right now. I said we're here to eat and watch the game and she said "well, you're gonna have to wait for 20 mins" I asked her if we can temporarily seat at the bar while waiting and she said no we cannot sit because we are going to block the kitchen. I looked around and I noticed one of the patron shook his head. My brother just told us that we should go. So we left. I called the bar and pretended to sound Caucasian and asked her if they are seating NOW and she said yes, we are open at 8am and we are seating now. I finally had to call her off on how she DISCRIMINATED against us because my family are African American. She even said oh ya the 5 black people? Basically, this place is racial and I will go into further extend to report the racism we experienced this morning. Terrible place! read more

Good food! However, terrible service. T E R R I B L E! No organization in the wait or getting sat. Took 25 minutes to get a water. We never even knew who our server was because they didn't actually get over to us and it was just differing employees trying to pick us up alongside their tables. Had to get up twice during our time here to ask for things. Took an hour to get our to get our food. No one checked on us. It did not seem like there was any form of management. They were very apologetic and took 25% off our meal, but the experience overall ruined our night. Was going to give one star, but gave two because it is a cool place. read more

I honestly don't know why this place doesn't have a better rating. They have such a wide selection of beer, food and cocktails. Staff is always really nice. Everything is super clean and the atmosphere is awesome. Plus they have games you can play like Cards Against Humanity or What Do You Meme. This bar is just perfect. I love that it has maintained its same atmosphere for so many years. My mom says it looks very similar to how it looked when she was in college. They have updated it but they have done it in such a tasteful way that it feels like it always meant to look like that - love the new fireplace corner. You all are doing a great job. I was in Pullman last March checking out the graduate program and I was taken to Rico's. I was told that it was a great place for grad students and professors to go since undergrads do not tend to hang out there. I loved it as soon as I stepped in! It has an 'old man' bar kind of feel that I adore. There is a gigantic bookshelf filled with real books, not fakes. The jazz band that was playing was great. They have a pinball machine upstairs which is a plus for me. I decided to attend WSU, so I have a feeling that my ass will be seated on a stool at Rico's for the next several years. read more

An awesome place to have a relaxed drink with a friend. This isn't your typical college town bar/pub. I went one night and there were students studying there while enjoying a glass of wine and meeting with friends. The atmosphere is super cool and almost reminds me of a scene from Harry Potter. My favorite bar in Pullman! Super chill vibe and dogs are allowed in their outdoor seating area. They're super nice and will bring your pup a bowl of water! My colleagues and I went to this pub yesterday for dinner and drinks. I will say that the experience is Meh...I do not know if I'd returned for the food, but the atmosphere is okay for a pub. First, i would like state that I have been to the bar a few times, this is the first time I actually ordered food. Atmosphere - The environment is quite fitting for a downtown college bar. Most of the people will be graduate students or pullman locals. The music choices aren't bad, but I really enjoy the live Jazz bands they have come in and play during evenings and weekends. It's also not overly loud...so you can have a drink and conversation. Food - The food was quite basic. Nothing quite amazing. All the food is pretty much bar food. There are very few vegetarian options, so if you are looking for those options, I would go somewhere else. Drinks - They drinks seemed okay. Almost all my colleagues shared "average" sentiments about the drinks. I, personally, ordered an AMF and I will say that I have had better. It was not what I was looking for. In addition, one my colleagues definitely did not like one of the drinks that was recommended to her. Service - Most of the staff member were friendly. However, they are not great. Our server did not really give us much attention and really did approach us personally. Our server was extremely focused on getting us our drink and food and getting us out. Side Notes: You will need to show your ID card at the door to even sit down and eat food. They do have pool tables (upstairs) and a live jazz stage (downstairs). read more

The oldest drinking establishment in Pullman goes a long way in my book. As a WSU Alum I spent 3 of my 4 years here drinking, but the one I remember has a few nights at Ricos. My friend Kale introduced me to this spot since he could get a little to cool for his own good sometimes he needed a break from the " On Campus" crowd. It has a great interior, dark polished wood, long bar, huge book shelves filled with old books. Live music is available as is Pool and Darts. They also have glass pitchers which I find to be outstanding since everywhere else in Pullman only has plastic, which always looked so dirty to me. The crowd here seems more grad students who have mastered the studying with a beer routine long ago. Also some Pullman locals can be found here. All in all a great choice for some Olympia and bullshitting with buds. Also there is free popcorn to munch on. read more

We tried to eat here tonight and it was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've ever had! We put our name and phone number in with the hostess and were told that there were 2 parties ahead of us, so we decided to look around downtown. Thirty minutes later we hadn't heard anything, so we checked back in and were told that we could sit outside, but no tables would be available inside tonight. So we sat outside. We ordered drinks at 5:30 and got them at about 6:00 and ordered. We then sat there for two hours waiting for food. We had asked if we could have a table inside if anything became available and we were told no. We then watched another party who came 40 minutes after us get their salad and drinks and then the waitress told them that a table became available so they could go inside. We heard them talking and knew they didn't have a reservation and were NOT there before us! We asked the waitress about our food and were told that they were cooking it, but the printer was down! Two and a half hours after we got there, another person came out with our waitress and told us that our order wasn't even started and it would be another 30-40 minutes due to the printer!!! They then asked us if they had our card to pay for the drinks! There was no way we were paying for anything after that debacle!! They should have been profusely apologizing!! She did tell us that if we ordered we would get a discount on our food! I would not recommend this place until they get their act together! Our newly married daughter and her husband took us there as a treat and they were so embarrassed! On our way out we ran into some people who saw what happened and they decided to go to the Mexican restaurant down the street! Just be warned, don't count on any good service here! read more

I'm not sure what everyone else is talking about. I go to Rico's pretty frequently and enjoy the relatively quick and attentive service. The staff there is so friendly and the cocktails so awesome that a couple of extra seconds waiting for my drink isn't that big of a deal to me. Their burgers are the best bar food in Pullman and their reuben sandwich is even better than that. I come mainly for the atmosphere exemplified by the old books and exposed brick with dark wood everywhere. With the bar being so old, you'd think it might be a little dingy but the place is so well kept. Oh, and the pool tables are awesome ($.50 per game) and I love the popcorn. read more

God I miss this place. It was my home away from home during my first round in Pullman, and when I returned a few years later for grad school the same was true. Pullman bars aren't for the faint at heart, and this one certainly has its quirks. But instead of thumping music and unappealing personalities, this one's quirks are the types of which I approve: live jazz music, dark brick walls, bookshelves covered in ancient books no one wishes to read. Good beer, good food, and good people. It's a place you'd feel just as comfortable tossing down a brew with your professor as you would with your closest friends. And it's a place I went several times to study semi-privately before the sky went dark. My last visit was 2006, and I still miss ordering a basket of fries with BBQ sauce to accompany a pitcher of Mac & Jacs and share with a group of friends. There are places in life you will never forget. For me, Ricos is one of those spots. read more

The old bald guy with glasses behind the bar is extremely rude and dismissive, and demonstrates no appreciation for paying customers. Since he was by far the oldest person working there, I am going to assume he is a manager/owner or whatnot. Since he ultimately is likely the face of the establishment, I honor him with one star. I mean, this place is supposed to be a pub. Pubs are supposed to be an escape from busy bro bars where you can't get friendly service, and be treated as a human being, and appreciated for your patronage. That being said, the young bartenders were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is very nice and vintage. Please, put one of the young ones in control. Yes, I might be dating myself making a Cheers reference here but if ever there was a bar that felt like the Cheers bar for me, it's Rico's. The servers are all friendly, even when things get busy on weekends. The atmosphere is great, all kinds of interesting paraphanalia on the walls and bookshelves everywhere. Like a lot of other reviews have mentioned, a lot of graduate students and professors like Rico's but this place is also popular with locals who have lived in Pullman all their lives. Most weekends they have a live band down in the back. Usually jazz, but I've also heard some big-band swing and mellow rock music too. When the band it playing there's space on the floor for a tiny dance area and occasionally some enterprising folk get a little bit of a dance floor going but it's rare. On the second floor are a few pool tables and some pinball machines (one of which was the Simpsons, last time I checked). read more

Love this place! It's the place for the sophisticates. Yes, the drinks are overpriced, but they are the best in town (as far as mixed drinks go, in my opinion). Also, they come around to check on you which is worth something when the place is super crowded and you don't want to get up. The live music is what really keeps me coming back. It can get a little loud, but you will hear some truly amazing musicians (especially on the weekends). AND there's no cover. They make some decent food too. Nice venue/atmosphere but the service was far below what I was expecting. Even on a slowish Monday night, it took a lot of effort to get anyone's attention while our waters were empty for 10+ minutes. My friend ordered a very simple salad and not only did it take over 40 minutes to come out, but it was completely the wrong salad. Even after sending it back, it was not exactly what she had ordered. Hard to imagine how something so simple could be so difficult for this seasoned bar. Unsurprisingly, the bar selection is decent and drink service is very prompt so it certainly works well on that front. I'm definitely willing to try again due to the reputation it has, but I really hope the quality of service improves. Final note: beware of the chairs here as well, they only come up to your mid-back which is really hard on people with chronic pain/back issues. read more
