We overnighted in Valdosta so I began looking for where to have dinner. We had a favorite BBQ place here but they were out of most things and almost ready to close. This is good and bad-good because you're not eating yesterday's food and bad because you have to look for something else. Thanks to Yelp, Rico's Tacos was just down the street so we said, "why not". Rico's has a pretty extensive menu but we opted for tacos. There were many varieties offered and each taco could be customized by choosing the type of tortilla and whatever garnishes such as onions, tomato, peppers, cilantro etc. you wanted. We both ordered a carne asada and al Pastor tacos. Another wonderful find. these tacos were unbelievably good with great meats and flavors. We also sampled the standard and "hot" salsas preferring the hot. Service was quick and friendly. I'll also add "patient" as this was our first time and we had lots of decisions to make. Rico's is another stop to add to our driving south (and back home) list. read more

This is my favorite taco place and it isn't even close. Every time I go thru Valdosta, I make a converted effort to go get some food. I even change my travel plans so I can get some of the amazing food here. I eat "carnivore" and their Keto Tacos are simply delicious and perfect for me. A tortilla mate out of cheese stuffed with whatever yummy meat you choose. And the prices are very reasonable. The staff is always pleasant and efficient. Love Love Love Rico's!!! read more

Delicious Carne Asada Fries! And the tacos are good too. I really enjoyed their Carne Asada Fries. It was a very large order of fries on a plate loaded with steak, queso, jalapeños, sour cream, and pico. It's definitely enough for 2 people to share. Delicious! I also tried a fish taco Guadalajara style. The corn tortilla was tasty and the fish was perfectly fried. The lady who took my order was super friendly and really helpful. After you order and pay at the register, they give you a buzzer. When the buzzer buzzes, your food is fresh, hot, and ready. I recommend Rico's Tacos for lunch or for a casual dinner. read more

Rico's might be an amazing local spot, especially for VSU students. However, when you're on a long distance drive and trying not to lose time, this place is a time suck. This was my second time stopping here, having forgotten my first experience before it was too late. I pulled off to a gas station and while pumping gas, I put in a to go order on line. My pick up time was 7:50. By the time I finished my business and got to the restaurant, it was like 7:52. They were slammed, and my order wasn't ready. When I pulled up to the restaurant, I remembered my first visit. Here's the thing-I didn't remember the food; only the insane wait for it to be ready. When that's your only memory of a restaurant, that's not a good thing. Anyway, my order remained not ready until 8:15, or 25 minutes late. The food was good. I got two tacos and chips with queso. The cheese dip was runny and needed salsa to give it a good flavor but the tacos were good. But nothing was good enough to make up for the wait. Even without the wait, it would be 3.5 stars at best and I would probably round up to 4 seeing as how it's Valdosta. Anyway, if you find yourself in Valdosta for an extended period, then come here for lunch or dinner. But if you're driving through, either order your food at least 30 minutes in advance or go somewhere else. read more

Rico's is a true Valdosta gem. It will be now a regular stop when we go to Florida. Quesadillas were the bomb! I had a loaded burrito bowl with the most flavorful barilla beef. The churros was a great end to our meal. Everyone enjoyed -- kids and adult approved! Place is clean and nice, plenty of seating...even an outdoor area that has some games. Bathrooms were well kept and even has a changing table! You can feel that the business is family owned -- staff was very welcoming, pleasant, and gave great recommendations. I pull into the parking lot and dutifully follow the other cars into line to order. A friendly young man runs menus to all the cars and lets me know it won't be long. My first time here and everything looks so good. I order 2 quesotacos and a churro for my sweet tooth. I pay and am told to go park in space 11. Everyone backs in so I do the same. I watch the cars around me and it is literally like kids at Christmas waiting for the amazing package to arrive. Both customers and employees are so friendly that I actually smile in anticipation of what is to come. My food arrives with an "enjoy and have a great day" statement. I open the bag to find my tacos and churro. It looks delicious and is plated with garnish even though it is takeout. Nice! I take a bite and "wow" the flavors are amazing. This isn't your normal taco joint. It is so good. Then I get to the churro......yum! Nice and crisp on the outside with just the right amount of cinnamon sugar and soft and melty on the inside. I must say that I really did not have high expectations for finding good tacos in Valdosta but this place has certainly proved me wrong. First of all I came during Colvin and they are being very safe. Everyone goes through their makeshift drive-thru and the servers all wear masks. Everyone there is so kind and greets you with a smile. The food is cooked to order obviously and it takes about 5 to 7 minutes to receive your order after you park in a designated spot. The corn tortillas are probably the best I've had in the states. They are a little dense so it helps that the taco doesn't fall apart when you bite in it. Try the birria taco. It was by far the best. I was not really a fan of the chorizo Taco simply because it was a little too greasy for my taste. I popped it all off with a churro and I wish I had gotten two or maybe even three! read more
