Heard great things about the rooms here so we decided to book while in the area. We were able to get a 7:40 booking for the Family Secrets room. It's located in the mall so plenty of parking. The staff helping with set up and intros were nice an made things easy. For this room we started handcuffed so it took a little longer than normal to get set up. No spoilers obviously but these rooms were very intricate. We needed a lot of nudges and some extra help but we luckily got out. Lots of interesting puzzles and locks here. We were very big fans and would love to try the rest of the rooms! read more

This place was a lot of fun! It was a little tricky to find it at first because it's inside the Regency Mall on the second floor. My husband and I did the Dr. Ensaine and the Bank Heist escape rooms. We did Dr. Ensaine first, which is level medium for difficulty. This one we thought was harder, especially since some of the writing on the objects was pretty worn down so it was hard to read it. I also wasn't sure how you were supposed to connect a couple things without a hint or nudge. This was has a creepy undertone to it but nothing pops out or no one comes out at you, which I was waiting for so that also through me off. The location of this escape room is also in the middle of the others so you could hear other people well which was distracting. We were able to finish even though our 60 mins was up and we finished 3 mins over. Princess was our game host for this one. We came back the next day to do the Bank Heist which was rated 2nd hardest escape room they had. My husband and I loved this one a lot more and we actually made it out with 8 min 47 sec left to spare! This one was more up our alley I think with the types of puzzles and def wasn't scary at all. They used all different types of challenges that we hadn't seen before in other escape rooms. We definitely loved the Bank Heist more, but both were good overall! We had a couple different game hosts here. For 2 people it was $37.50 per person, for 3 or more it's $32 per person. Each room is private so you don't have to share with strangers. You get 3 hints per room but unlimited nudges. It was a lot of fun! read more

Had a great experience here this week in the "Family Secrets" room. Cas was so nice at explaining everything and the room was a lot of fun. I will say that I felt some of the clues were a little "far fetched" but maybe that's just my own brain lol. We still managed to escape the room with 2 minutes left! (With a little bit of help lol). This is a pretty decent escape room! Location is weird as it's located in a very sketchy mall, but the staff was helpful both in and out of the room. I liked that rooms had a great variety of clues and was very dynamic, though I thought there was a lot of guess work as to what was connected to what; that could he more clear. I love escape rooms and pride myself on breaking out. I've even done one by myself and broke out. This was our first time at Riddle Me This inside Regency Square. We purposely chose the hardest one, Rock Star, which they rate 10/10 on the difficulty scale. There were 3 of us, and needless to say, we didn't break out. If a room is "difficult" because there are a gazillion puzzles and the clues are not logical, I'm not sure that's really difficult, but closer to impossible. The number of puzzles and quality of clues, I believe, should be crackable in the allotted 1 hour. This room had a lot of random, unconnected information that just didn't really make sense. Maybe I'm just salty we didn't breakout. Maybe I'm not as good a player as I think I am, lol. The design and decor was kinda low budget, too. Other escape rooms I've been to have invested much more in audio-visual technology and really cool, well-themed props and design. That's great and definitely improves the experience, but I'm okay with low budget, too since I'm really all about the challenge. All in all, we still had a good time and would do another room at Riddle Me This. 3.5 stars! read more

My wife and I have been to many escape rooms in other parts of VA and in other states. Riddle Me This is our favorite so far. The puzzles are very good and quite difficult (but not unreasonable). We always ask for no hints or help unless we ask for it, and RMT is the only place that has stumped us (both on Bank Heist and Project Beacon). But they were kind enough to let (and their booking schedule allowed) us to finish out the puzzles. The rooms are well put together and a nice variety of puzzles within each room. We'll definitely return next time we are in Richmond to try to redeem ourselves. read more

This is my favorite Escape Room in all of Richmond! It's low budget, but the riddles and storylines are top notch. The Game Master is always friendly and so into it! The owners are sweet and love giving clues to customers. I've done all of their rooms now and my favorite is Family Secrets! Being handcuffed in the dark was sooo immersive! My first time coming here and me and my family did it as something fun for my birthday. I definitely recommend this as an activity for larger groups. We had 9 people in the "asylum" themed room, it proved to be difficult, but teamwork is the only thing that will truly make or break it! From the looks of it on the outside I definitely was not expecting the experience to be so immersive and actually fun. I enjoyed myself and I think this is a great, immersive activity for both a group and two people. However, I do think as the difficulty level of the room increases, it's best to have more people. Just updating my last review. My wife and I finally completed all the current rooms. The gamemasters have always great at Riddle Me This and our last two visits (back-to-back days) was no exception. We did Dr. Ensaine a couple of weeks ago and this room was definitely complex. The room has a good mixture of medical/dental terminology mixed in with the escape room so we got into this one as if this was really happening and this room kind of follows a linear line. My wife and I typically do rooms with just the two of us as we know our strengths and weaknesses with regards to escape rooms, but Rock Star is DEFICIENT a bit too much for two people. read more

It seems as though what was previously known as Escape Room USA is now Riddle Me This Escape Room and located inside of Regency Square Mall. Bravo to them for bringing this type of experience inside a mall, but I've definitely done better quality rooms. It was hot and a little stuffy in there and the wait room wasn't all that comfortable. The room was challenging enough and we enjoyed it for the hour we were in there! We did end up breaking out just in time! We were handcuffed for a good portion of the time. I think that it would have been nice to not have to find a different key for every single handcuff, but oh well. My co-workers all came to town for our back-to-school event this year and we were looking for a team-building event. As a virtual school, we don't see each other in person very often, so when we do, team building is a necessity. I contacted the business with our date, time, and what we were looking to gain out of the experience. Sam responded quickly and was able to accommodate our large group with ease. A few days before the event, she and I scheduled a phone meeting. She answered any questions that I had, described the rooms so that I could share them with staff, and confirmed our booking. Sam met us upon arrival and described the ins and outs of escape rooms. She was kind, and professional, and handled a large group of people with various questions with ease. Everyone had a GREAT time in their rooms, despite some not escaping, and it was determined to be an EXCELLENT team-building activity. The rooms themselves were well thought out, had great backstories, and were perfect for collaboration. Many staff who were apprehensive before trying Riddle Me This Escape Rooms have been converted to Escape Room lovers! This was my first escape room experience and definitely not my last. Room Escape USA was clean and had plenty of parking. It is advised to arrive 10-15 earlier than your start time. The instructor was waiting for our group upon walking in and did a great job at briefing us on the rules and protocols for the escape room. Before you start, there are lockers in the lobby to store personal belongings. There were 2 escape rooms available, Dr. Ensaine which has more complicated puzzles and Family Secrets which requires more teamwork. I attempted the room Dr. Ensaine with a group of 6 at the private room rate of $173 as opposed to $25 per person.  Dr. Ensaine had a 40% success rate and proved to be entertaining and challenging. The rooms were extremely well designed and detailed to each theme. The room is manageable within the 60 minute time constraint. My group of first-timers finished right at 60 minutes mark. There are many red herrings throughout the escape room but I liked how the puzzle clues for Dr. Ensaine came full circle. Would recommend 10/10! read more

A lower budget room done right! Having done about 30 escape rooms around the country at this point, you start to notice that rooms fall into various tiers. There are the rooms with elaborate Hollywood-level scenic elements and all custom props, and then there are the lower budget more DIY feeling rooms. This one definitely falls into the latter category but let me tell you that I had a better in-room experience at this place than some of the higher budget offerings. In fact, I thought this place made a very very clever use of what resources were available to them in this physical space and it masked the lower budget nature of the attraction. Two of us did the Dr. Ensaine room and it was an absolute blast. The room felt very basic at first, but without giving much away, I will say there is definitely more than meets the eye and I just loved how you got a full storyline as you progressed into some pretty wild territory. I thought many of the puzzles were very clever and had me clapping and saying "that's so cool" at multiple points. With a few hints, we finished right on the hour mark and our hearts were racing. Definitely the feeling you hope to have at the end of every escape room but don't always get. Another big plus was that our game master, Dar, was clearly watching our every move and able to provide hints to us as soon as we asked for them and would give us on-theme announcements to answer some of our musings. For instance, upon realizing that there wasn't any countdown clock in the room, I wondered allowed how much time we had and moments later there was an announcement from the "receptionist" paging the good doctor to let him know it was 42 minutes until his next appointment. Very clever! You get the feeling this place put a lot more thought into every aspect of the game than most facilities do. If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would, simply because our reception to the facility was pretty lackluster and a bit rushed. But as far as the overall experience, I would highly recommend it! read more

This day became the day I found out - if I'm ever held hostage or trapped somewhere with my oldest brother we are SOL or it's going to be up to me to get us out. I was fiending to do an escape room and Ravenchase was all booked. I found this company with one available time slot, and was ready to book it on the phone as my brother and I were enroute to Richmond. I was ready to go ahead and go mission "solo" to participate in the escape room with strangers, when the voice on the other line said-"you're it, there's no one else booked for this room." I looked at my older brother giving him the " you owe me this "look. I had no luck recruiting my brother's friend or his kids to go, due to schedule constraints . My brother gave in, not knowing what to expect. This is where the adventure begins and reality sets in. We were handcuffed in the dark with a minuscule amount of light coming from an artificial flickering flame left to search for clues and hints to unlock our handcuffs. We had high hopes that our Sherlock Holmes' skills would lead us to find out the secrets our grandpa Earl had been hiding before he returned. He was the one after all that "locked" us up. I began to quickly yell to my brother if he could see anything that might help us. With a slow response of "I don't know.." uttered from my brother I began to become furious and irritated yelling expletives at him. The entire time he remained calm and as an older brother does, reminded me to watch my language. I began to lose my patience and confidence wondering if I am as smart as I think I am. Hahaha with a reminder from our "lookout" aka game master he reminds us to look for visual clues. I began to look around and soon realized the correlation of what I see and we are able to undo a lock but not the lock that frees us just yet. I realize after communicating to our" look out" and having talked out loud that I should have listened to my own hunch to try the key I had first found. This was after 15-20 minutes later. Without giving the secrets of the room - suggestions for any escape room is : search and sweep, work as a team, someone needs to take lead and communication will make or break you. Most importantly when in doubt check it out- usually your hunch is right and if you don't try it you might not ever know if it will work! Josh, the owner did an excellent job guiding us with hints when we asked and knowing when we were struggling without babying us. The props were quality and gave life to the storyline. The puzzles were cohesive and streamlined and made complete sense. I thoroughly enjoyed my time being held "hostage" by grandpa Earl. Josh even encouraged my brother to be more engaged in the task at hand and had him solve the last two clues. HAHA.. I learned a lot about myself and my older brother. We need to work on better communication skills. I tend to switch roles of leader and follower when I'm in different group dynamics when approaching issues, problems or "clues." I realize I know when to step in and when to pull back and where I can prove most useful when I'm not actively able to solve a puzzle or if there's too many hands in the puzzles. It's as important to be able to recognize that your role in working as a team can be just as dynamic as future goals and issues are ever changing. You can be an active participant in life's adventures or passively live. Escape into another world at Room Escape USA and you just might find yourself in a different way!! I give it two high fives!! I have heard of Room Escape from so many friends and was dying to try it out myself. My friends and I (group of 10) did the Family Secrets themed room and had SO much fun and adequately challenging. We each paid $26.50, which I thought was a bit steep at first, but it was totally worth it. It was advised to arrive around 10-15 minutes before your time so that someone can go over the background story and rules with you and your group. You get an hour to figure out the clues and escape the room(s), which I thought was ample time. My group and I managed to escape with ~14 minutes to spare. At the end of our session, one of the workers at Room Escape, Dar, gave us business cards with a cypher on the back. Solving the cypher resulted in an awesome coupon code, which I found super fun. Team Building - Review Last Thursday, I led my team of eight work colleagues into a locked room! Being a geographically distributed team, we rely on virtual meeting space and recognize weak virtual connections leave a wealth of creative opportunity unexplored. Project success usually depends upon mutual respect and free flow of information. Prior to a project kick-off last week, I nominated four Richmond "internal customers" and four "remote resources" for a voluntary escape room experiment at Room Escape USA. My objective is to expedite a creative problem solving connection between key project resources. The general manager at Room Escape USA collaborated with me on content, agenda and objectives. Upon arrival, she led us through a self-discovery activity as preparation for the first escape. Post escape #1, we explored lessons learned about each other and opportunities for improvement in the second room. After our second successful escape, each participant was asked to share how their experience mapped to our project objectives, the way we work together, and opportunities for an improved team dynamic. The first room (Dr. Ensaine) is an illustration of our business and current-state project reality. Isolated individuals and groups worked concurrently on distinct escape problems, too numerous for each individual to tackle together. The second room (Family Secrets) offered a linear step-by-step progression where it was much easier for each individual to follow concurrent escape room activities. The last room offered a metaphor for the team's preferred project scenario. I have observed uncharacteristic availability from individuals for collaboration this week. The escape room laboratory offered our team a detached insight when outside of the typical workflow. Dynamics and habits surfaced and behavior was immediately open for discussion. Room Escape USA is a great team building activity. My friends and I (group of 4) did Dr. Ensains room, it was our first time doing an escape room, and we had a blast. The clues were clever and trying to unlock each locks were quite difficult. We ended up getting close, but ran out of time. I like how the escape room had a theme and a story behind it. The owner or worker was nice enough to give us time and help us complete all the clues and escape the room. He also gave us a good brief regarding the locks and the room before we started . After the activity, he went over what we could have done better, and what we missed, and the 3 lies we asked for. Which means he was keeping track of what we were doing the whole time, which is great and very nice of him. We would definitely come again and try out another room! read more

We did both rooms here and both were AWESOME. For me, there are two things that really make for a great escape room experience: the setting/props/ambience and the puzzles themselves. We've been to escape rooms that have had either one or neither and trust me, it makes for a blah experience. Both Family Secrets and Dr. Ensain's were unique in the way the puzzles were presented. But Dr. Ensain's room definitely had some exciting twists that made the adventure all the more exciting. Would highly recommend! read more

Visited Room Escape USA as a part of a Yelp event. I had only done an escape room game once before, when I visited Montreal with my friends. I had a great time there and expected the same experience here. Usually these types of games are played with a group of people you know pretty well, but in our situation we were playing with complete strangers which I thought would make things a little difficult. But it honestly didn't matter, I still had a great time. The puzzles in the room were very clever and tricky but made you feel really good once you solved them. Definitely want to come back to try the other room and will be back once they update their rooms. The employee that was with us for the evening did a great job of explaining how everything worked and was a funny guy as well. They have lockers to keep your things in if you don't want to carry them around in the rooms. Parking was easy and there's lots of it and it's located just off the freeway. My friends and I (group of 5) escaped the Family Secrets room with 2 minutes to spare! This was my third escape room-type experience and I think it was my favorite. The clues were clever and just challenging enough to keep us engaged. There were moments when we were not sure if we would break out in time- which is what I liked about it! We had a group of nine and played the Family Secrets room. Wow did we have a great time. The staff was very friendly and gave us a run through of some of the basics before "locking" us in. We brought six 11-12 year olds and had a memorable time. RE suggested we include an adult, and I am glad we did as it was a little creepy (but fun!) for this age. My big group of friends and I went to Riddle Me This Escape Rooms in the Regency Mall and did the Bank Heist room. It was fantastic! David was our guide, and he could not have been more helpful. He never got frustrated and was always quick to offer help when it seemed like we were stumped. The clues and nudges were always on point and what we needed to continue in the room. The puzzles and clues were challenging but fun to work through with a group. Pretty bad. My work group went there on opening day, and I do not think they should have been open yet. No - and I emphasize NO air circulation in either room of our 2-room '60 min experience', as it was described. I've heard great things about 'escape room' locations, but take this one off your list. Me and my boyfriend came here for the first time last weekend and truly enjoyed ourselves. We did the Family Secrets room and barely scratched the surface lol! But it was a lot of fun. The time that we booked it was just us two, so I think this made things a bit harder. I've done an escape type room before with more people and have gotten further because different people think different ways and it helps with figuring out clues. We visited the Escape Room on Mayland for Yelp night and had an amazing evening.. This was my first time at something like this and my mind was racing with different ideas on what to expect. My brother Jesse and I were in a group with 3 others we hadn't met before. As we entered we were greeted by Josh and he gave us a quick briefing, we signed our waivers and were off in to the unexpected. Once inside the room Josh gave us the backstory, and that we had find clues and secrets to find the key or codes to open the exit door within an hour. I thought we would surely finish but it was more difficult than I expected... We had an awesome time and met some cool new people. When we left I was amped up and called my closest friends and told them they had to try it.. In end, it was very successful event and I highly recommend it. There is plenty of parking and the cost was surely worth it. Look for groupons or living social coupons. One reason I beileve the cost is worth it is because the complexity of puzzles require many so props that have to perfectly aligned before a new group begins.
