Hidden Gem ALERT! What a cool place! We were looking to get out of the house on a double date night and it was a great spot. The place was packed on a Friday night! It was so nice to see people out and about and playing games with each other. We brought our own game because we wanted to play that, but the place has over 1,000 to choose from. The staff was very nice and checked in on us often. We will definitely be back and I would highly recommend! The chicken wrap was very good and the sweet potato waffle fries were crispy. Was my first time trying Breakout Games. My friends I picked the " Operation: Casino". The mission is about finding a missing agent and track down who is responsible. It was extremely fun! There was a lot a math - which was surprisingly manageable to figure since large number were included. The host was very helpful and provided hints whenever we asked. The escape room was for an hour. This was I think my fourth escape room. I've experienced a couple with significantly higher production value, with more interactive components and multiple rooms to explore. This is a more literal escape ROOM. We did the kidnapping one, which wasn't super difficult but was a good challenge with some fun surprises. I'd say it was ultimately pretty rewarding despite not having to ask for help until the very last puzzle. It took a few mins to figure out how to start but then I was on a roll. Ultimately, I think the price is too high for the quality and production value (~$120 for 2 people). Still good fun, but the value could be a bit better. read more

My second time visiting an escape room and had a lot of fun! Our group did the Undercover Alley room, and honestly, it had hard moments but it was super fun! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our game master Alex was great she gave us an introduction and the run down on what can and should be touched. She gave us good clues and also kindly unlocked a pair of handcuffs that I accidentally got locked to in the hallway. We choose to do the Do Not Disturb room. It was a kidnapping situation and your job was to escape the kidnapper. I won't give too much detail about the room to not give spoilers. If you choose to do this room I would recommend doing less than 6 as the room was snug. If I have an escape room event I'm definitely coming back! read more

Went to Breakout Games for my first ever experience with an escape room. I was thoroughly impressed. We did the Museum Heist. Our game master did an awesome job - cannot remember her name though... It was a tricky room. We had at least 6 people and were tight fit in the room, but it helped to have more people because we also focused on different tasks. Lydia's the best game master I've ever had, and this place is super fun! I've done a lot of escape rooms before but this place has the most creative clues and puzzles I've ever seen. I want to say more but I won't spoil anything! My boyfriend and I came in for valentines day last year and played a room with a bomb defusing theme and the decor inside was really cool, it was set up like an alley in a neighborhood I think. Recently we came in again and did the kidnapping room where they handcuff you and blindfold you on the way in (because the theme is you're escaping a kidnapping. Fun!) Because I'm annoying I kept making jokes and the super cool, fun, silly, and awesome game master LYDIA made jokes with me and laughed at mine! So refreshing and fun to see someone who truly loves what they do. She had such a passion for the puzzles and the theme of the room as well. Always have a positive experience when she runs our rooms. She also gave helpful hints (which are unlimited here!) that weren't so specific that it felt like I wasn't doing the work, but provided good guidance to the right answer. She seemed very experienced and knowledgable. We encounter two other employees as well, one running the front desk and one that Lydia was training. Both were super sweet and funny! It's nice to have good personalities on a team. They seemed to work together very well. I also enjoy that they take a picture with your time on it afterwards and it got sent to me very quickly. Overall this place is well put together, has amazing staff, and provides a great experience! Definitely the most unique and positive escape room experience I've had. read more

This was my third escape room but my first time at Breakout. I was surprised by the number of rooms that they have, 5 I believe, because the place appears to be small. I was a little worried about having a smaller group but it worked out just fine. It's your typical escape room with locks, passcodes, clues and puzzles. One difference with this place is they give you unlimited clues while other places limit you to 3. Our person, game master? Leader? I forgot what they are called.. was super cool. Nicholas was kind, patient and helpful. It took us a while to get some clues but we ended up escaping with 11 seconds left! I had a lot of fun and felt accomplished afterwards. I totally want to go back and try out the other rooms... one of which you're temporarily blindfolded and handcuffed during. read more

For a team building outing, this event was interesting. We weren't sure what to expect when our office manager booked this place, especially when we had to sign a waiver. We arrived at the designated time to find the venue closed due to a power outage. We emailed the manager, let her know that the lights had been back on, and she said she'd come back to let us in. We all went to Starbucks for coffee while we waited for the manager to arrive. I will say, we thought our reservations would be a bust that day, so I was impressed that they honored our slot and resolved the problem. Our moderator, Monica, gave us instructions and led us down the narrow hallway. A little trepidatious, we were lined up... blind folded and brought into a small room where we were handcuffed. Yep, a bit eerie... (the handcuffs were attached to a cot by a magnet) but still nerve wracking. Our room was dubbed "kidnapped". There were seven of us in this tiny, dark room and once we took off our blindfolds, and found the key to unlock ourselves, we went about trying to escape! The initial clue was pretty easy. Some of the other clues were more challenging. As a group, there's no limit to the help you can ask for from the moderator. I will say that I doubt anyone would be able to escape without help. Some of the clues and riddles were not just challenging, they were convoluted and made little sense. A couple in our group had been to escape rooms before, so that was a bonus. Several of the flashlights we were given didn't work, so sometimes we were quite literally left in the dark. The whole thing was creepy to me, and although I appreciated the concept, I wasn't thrilled with the execution. We "escaped" with some time to spare, being spoon fed, but I was glad to be out of there. Supposedly, the other rooms, like the Museum Heist and the Casino are less disturbing. I don't suggest this experience if you suffer from claustrophobia, although technically you can exit at any time during the "game". I enjoyed being with my workmates, but the event itself wasn't my cup of tea. We were given coupons to return, and I may give this trendy adventure spot another chance to see if the next scenario is better than my first. read more

OMG! This place is an awesome escape room experience! Again, as my wife and I are too competitive and we do not have people as passionate about escape room experiences within our circle, we again attempted to do all their escape rooms in the span of three nights. We escaped all rooms, some with seconds to spare so it is possible though some rooms might be better suited with parties of 3-4+. Undercover Alley - I was thoroughly impressed that there is so much contained in this smaller than average room. So much to do and very interactive. Gamemasters are all great and as we've done many escape rooms across the country, and explained this to them upon arrival, they agreed to only jump in with nudges if we asked or if they found us stuck. The Kidnapping and Do Not Disturb have a shared storyline so this was a great idea on their part as you get to see things from both sides of the kidnapped individuals as well as their captor. Museum Heist - This is one of their most expansive rooms and definitely one of the rooms that might have been less difficult with more than 2 people. We still escaped but as this is a multiple room escape and some clues and/or puzzles use items or clues from other rooms, we found ourselves getting a little bewildered and had to rely on the gamemasters to nudge us in the right direction. Operation: Casino - Just a heads up here, there's quite a bit of math involved in this room. This is one of the strengths I add to our escape escapades, so it wasn't as difficult for us as some might find. There is a great mixture of of various casino games in this multi-room escape. For anyone that might struggle with some of the rules of these games, there are rules posted so you don't necessarily have to prepare for this by studying the rules of each game in advance. Overall, this is a great spot for advanced escape room artists or novice. Special shoutout to Eric, one of the gamemasters we had during this multiple-day adventure. All rooms were well architected. We'll definitely be back when new rooms are added. read more

I liked the challenge of the room here, but it's not my favorite escape room place in town. The rooms are single rooms, not a series, so it doesn't feel like you're progressing as much as a room-to-room-to-room experience does. Also they have unlimited hints, and no penalty for hints! It makes the decision to take a hint way less of an arduous decision. Granted, that's awesome for newbies to the escape room adventure, but a let-down for seasoned escapees. There's no record to beat for the room, so that is also a bummer - where's the competition? It can't just be with yourself! So, I would definitely recommend this place for newer escape room goers - the rooms have some cool tech, they're all a bit creepy, and not feeling the pressure to not use the hints makes the experience less stressful for newbies. If you're a seasoned vet of escape rooms, relish a true challenge, and crave competition with other unknown groups, then there are better options in town for you. I will say, the staff was nice, the tech in the room was pretty cool, and it was a fun experience. I've just had better challenges. read more

This place is COOL! Approaching the building, it doesn't look like a whole lot, and I had no idea what to expect- it's in an area where if you blink, ya miss it, sort of thing. My group and I chose to do the Museum Heist room, apparently one of the most difficult of the bunch. WOW, color me impressed! I felt like I was truly IN the story with the amazing detail put forth by the Breakout Games crew. You are allowed hints in these games- there's a camera in each room of the puzzle (so cool that there are multiple rooms in one game!) and mics everywhere, so all you have to do is call out to your game master and they'll point you in the right direction without giving away too much. I only give this place two stars due to Victory and her nasty attitude. From when we walked in, her attitude towards us was rude. She waited to give us clues when asked, when she gave us clues she would take her time and i can say about 10-15 minutes was wasted waiting for her and calling her name. I don't like to leave bad reviews because the game itself was fun! It was challenging and it was nice to have the opportunity to play but to spend our money on such RUDE service... if we come back, it'll be when she is not there. Can't believe my time was wasted. I have done over 30 escape rooms, and this is the only one I did not make it out of in the given hour. The room itself looked cool overall, and some of the clues were interesting, but most are just hard to understand or very vague as to what to do. It seemed like we had to ask for clues every 5 minutes because there was just nothing left to do, and usually the answer was something we had already tried. The Breakout Games had 4 escape room choices at the time. With a Groupon for up to 8 (~$120), I attempted Operation: Casino with a group of friends. The interior design of the room was true to the theme. I noticed a lot of the puzzles and clues involved math. Every clue made it clear what puzzle was to be worked on next; there was a lack of red herrings. Operation: Casino wasn't as challenging as I would have liked but it's a good beginner escape room if you don't mind the math. I am tempted to come back and try The Kidnapping where you start off blindfolded and handcuffed.  In general, game masters are allowed to give endless hints as long as there is a consensus among the group. At the end of the escape room, everyone gathers to take a picture with either their record time or a "so close" sign for their Facebook page. Breakout Games was my first experience with escape rooms, and they did not disappoint! My friends and I embarked on their Kidnapping room, which was definitely mildly frightening at first since we started in handcuffs and blindfolds. The lights are also off in the room during the experience, so things are extra difficult even after taking off the blindfolds and handcuffs. Don't be scared off though, there are other rooms that don't involve these restraints and have the light on I definitely don't think the difficulty wasn't impossible; we managed to escape in 55 minutes. Getting out definitely took some brain power though and was overall just challenging enough to make you feel really accomplished when you escape! If you ever do get stuck, you can ask the game master, who is watching through a camera, to give you a clue. We admittedly had to call on our game master a couple of times. I came here for a Yelp event, but to summarize my experience, I would definitely come back for a fun time with friends, family, or coworkers in the future. read more

The husband and I did the "Kidnapping" room and our game master was Marley. It was so fun and she was a great help. We asked for clues a couple times and she was helpful without giving away what we needed to do next. I gave it a 4 star because a couple of the clues could have been a little better. For example, there was a tarp where you had to line up on the wall to make a number. The tarp was a little difficult since the corners kept wanting to curl in. Overall, we had a great experience and would love to have Marley as our game master again! read more

We reserved three rooms for my sons 18th birthday and our group loved it. The Breakout room is an escape room that is located in a small shopping center on the south side of Midlothian Turnpike. I coordinated the reservations with Nicholas a week prior and he was very knowledgeable and professional. I explained my group size and he gave us his recommendations on how to make it the most fun. Upon arrival we were greeted and shown tablets to sign liability waivers. Our group of 25 was broken up into smaller groups guided into either the Casino, Museum heist or kidnapping rooms. My subgroup was mostly adults in the Museum Heist and we thought it was difficult but really exciting. I got to see an other side of my family and friends as we worked together to solve the mystery. I'm so glad we were able to ask for clues to help when we were stuck. I appreciate that the room moderator didn't give us the answers but instead guided us in the right direction. The cameras in the room must be really good cause they knew exactly what we were doing the whole time.. The teenager subgroup went in the kidnapping room and they all loved it. They were blindfolded, handcuffed and forced to work together. After the event I asked everyone their thoughts and all the feedback was positive. If you book as an individual, the cost is $25 + tax. A room reservation cost was around $180 per room. Some rooms hold more people than others. I thought it was a very reasonable price for the experience and level of work that went into it. This was so much fun!!! Great couple's date night activity! The customer service is great and the place is very easy to find. It's in the arboretum center near the Gold Gym. There are 5 breakout rooms and we did Hostage Room. The excitement started before we entered the room...by being blind folded..then handcuffed to a bench, once we get into the room! The adrenaline keeps you on your toes, trying to solve clues in order to crack the code to free yourself from the room! Our host was very helpful via intercom if we got stuck on a clue. I love doing escape rooms and am always up for a new challenge. I've been to some really cool escape rooms so I'm always nervous that a new place may have me missing something but this was not the case at Breakout! One of the things that I really enjoyed was that the group who books it is who the room belongs to and it's a private experience. I have had a lot of fun doing escape rooms with strangers but just being in one with your group is really nice. The room was smaller than some I have been to but not lacking in difficulty and I interesting clues and twists. We did the do not disturb room and it was one of the more difficult rooms I've done and that's not a bad thing. Janae was our game host and she was great! When we asked for a clue she didn't simply give us the answer but helped us think through what we were looking at which I really appreciated. My group did the Hostage and Do Not Disturb rooms and had a ball! We didn't finish in the allotted hour and we were close to done so they let us finish - really nice. Our game masters were Nicholas, Monica and Sam - great guidance. I suppose if there was one thing I'd change, the music in the Hostage room got loud enough near the end that it was actually hard to hear the game master. Took my team to Breakout Games as a Team Builder. I booked it about two days before the event and found it super easy to use the online booking to pick out a room, select the amount team members and make the payment. Once we arrived our game master Andrew was readily waiting got everyone signed in and set us up for an hour of fun. This was an amazing way for our team to work together and use our individual skills together. The room (Do Not Disturb) was AMAZING and was appropriately challenging like I said using all of our talents. There was even one moment one of my team members commented on it being hot and they turned up the AC for us! Andrew was AMAZING funny, helpful (without giving us the answers which is a plus) and took an amazing photo for us at the end (and emailed and texted the photo to us).
