I was a volunteer for the Tournament of Roses on New Year's Day and my 1st assignment was to lead the floats to their assigned parking space at the Floatfest Showcase as they came off the parade route. To do this I needed to drive a Honda scooter, which I had never done before. After a short 30 minute introduction to the scooter by Honda, I did not feel very confident. I was sure I was going to tip over. So I started to hunt for private lessons nearby and came across Ride2Ride through a Google search. And I am so glad I did. It's a Sunday, just finished up 2 hours with Llyas. I could not wait to get back to my computer to leave this review.... Having very fresh experience with two types of training I hope I can HELP some people... After having taken the Westside Academy Course 2 days prior (Fri/ Sat) where of the 10 people taking the class there was a whopping 80% failure on the rider test. Their method of training is literally night and day, black and white compared to Llyas The academy style just wasn't right for me. Frankly I don't think right for anyone that's 100% novice. IF you HAVE prior experience --ok maybe. There were no baby steps, you're sped thru the time given to actually get used to just riding the bike itself before you're thrown into the lot with a bunch of strangers, ALL novice. That alone heightens the stress level a lot. Add to that because of the strict time schedule at Academy it felt rushed --ready or not --it's onto the next exercise. I was locked up and tense the entire 2 days and quite literally scared of the bike and all the novice riders I was in the cattle call with. I don't fault the teachers, they were really very nice and knowledgeable guys but clearly they're just given a printed formula and a manner of training they have to adhere too. I didn't know how wrong it was for me until I had something (someone) to compare it too. Contrast that to llyas --where he began with just getting comfortable with the bike. The functions each broken down into the most basic and separate tasks and one layered on top of the prior. He specifically gave a lot of attention to the back brake --something the Academy didn't do at all beyond just mentioning that we should use it w/ the front brake. He was very patient and gave lots of calming "breathe deep, loosen your fingers, relax your neck" and positive reinforcement talking through the speaker helmet. It felt like he was right there on the bike with me --very comforting. I gained confidence fast to where by the end of the 2 hours, I was elated --not stressed. TBH.... I'm GLAD I failed Academy! I'm glad everyone else did too! If I had by some miracle passed the test and gone to have been given a motorcycle license, I would be an extreme danger to myself and others. I worry about the 2 guys that did pass.... one really shouldn't have. DO YOURSELF A YUUUUUGE favor. Book this guy now. Beyond 5 stars.... Ilyas is a very patient instructor who will keep you safe while you learn. I originally went to the motorcycle academy in Pasadena... the one endorsed by the CHP. I didn't do well on the bike. It was very much an elitist vibe from the staff and I just didn't feel safe learning something this dangerous with people who couldn't care less about my comfort level. I didn't finish their classes, but I still wanted to learn to ride. I figured I'd Google 1 on 1 motorcycle classes to see what I could find and this popped up on Yelp! I thought I'd know straight away if I liked this person or not, and of not I wouldn't continue. Not only did I like him, I was riding comfortably in an hour, and confidently by our second session. You realize a lot about yourself when beginning to ride a motorcycle. Things like... body trust. It's not something you think about while in a car and it's not something you grasp while learning to ride in a group. Trusting your body is KEY for having a safe ride! I've learned so much training with him! The helmet you wear has a blue tooth device that he speaks to you through as you ride. He's always in view and goes slowly. Hey there! So, I've never actually been on a motorcycle before, but let me tell you about my experience with Elios's lessons. He is amazing! His instructions made me feel so comfortable and confident, especially because I was super nervous at first. The private lessons take place in a large parking lot near an airport, which I think is a great spot because it keeps things realistic with the noises, distractions, and some cars around. Since I don't have a ton of cash to spare, I go for about 1 hour a week. Honestly, even just 1 hour is mentally exhausting! Elios really preps you for the driving test, and although I'm not sure if he helps with the written test, there's plenty of information on YouTube for that. I have many more lessons to go, and we haven't even hit the streets yet, but I'm confident that once I'm done, I'll feel much safer riding a motorcycle in the streets of Los Angeles. I tried to book a lesson with Ilyas who did not have a bike for my size (4'10" 85 lb) at the time. He advised that I would not be able to safely learn without a properly sized bike. I didn't listen to him and failed the CMSP spectacularly within the first hour of riding session. Ilyas texted me recently that he had acquired a lowered Boom Vader BD125-10. You progress at your own pace and new skills are introduced one by one. My lesson today covered balance, identifying friction zone, throttle/brake control. Ilyas called it trauma erasing so the learning can begin/continue next lesson. The value of a private lesson with a skilled instructor cannot be overemphasized. I really enjoyed my lesson with Ilyas. It was my first motorcycle lesson. I've read a little bit of the other reviews here and I concur: I found Ilyas to be chill but attentive to detail, and insightful based on his observation of my body language. I got the sense that he had a lot of experience teaching this skill, but also that he was tailoring his lesson to my individual needs. He seemed to deeply understand how learning happens and how to patiently and calmly guide the process. In our two hour lesson I was able to get pretty comfortable starting and stopping, shifting up to second gear and back down, zig zagging, and maneuvering the bike at low speed using the clutch. Ilyas is the Motorcyclist Whisperer. He is easily the most knowledgeable and calming force on the planet when it comes to riding instruction. After being patronized and not given the help I needed from a local company offering CMSP courses (i highly encourage that you click on my reviews to see which one Im speaking of), I found this company on Yelp and it sounded like everything I needed in way of 1:1 attention. I left my previous class feeling as though I wasn't capable of operating a motorcycle and unteachable on a beginners level. One course instructor even asked when the last time was I rode a bicycle in the most condescending way. So, refusing to allow this place to gaslight me and tap into my "never give up" attitude after feeling rejected, I contacted R2R immediately via text. I got a quick response and setup an appointment. I gave them the details of my height...weight...equipment I and booked an 8am the very next day. Once I arrived, I was happy to see Ilyas and a much better beginner bike than I was previously given at the other renowned company. Essentially he brought a bike right for my extremities, hence the questions in the email. The previous company had the same bike but with several different handle options and seat mods. You would think that a seasoned instructor would pair people with the bike setting thats right for them for learning, but they do not. I was forced to t-rex my arms and have my knees up past my navel on the pegs and told it was ME who wasn't able to be taught. The two hour session changed my life. Ilyas had probably seen a million versions of me coming out of similar classes that offer little to know real "teaching" in classes on bikes. He gave me an earpiece to hear him from my helmet and proceeded to guide me. Before I knew it, I was riding like someone who COULD be taught and running the drills with ease. Ilyas has the eyes of a hawk an intuition of sage. As i road around the lot he could see my every movement on the bike telling me how to correct it inside of my ear. In the end I felt great and validated. I knew there wasn't something wrong with me but rather the instructions I was given. I cannot recommend coming here enough. I've spent more money and attended several group lessons from accredited motorcycle riding schools and I left no more confident. Leaving me with the thought of, "maybe riding a motorcycle is not for me". With 15 riders to a class with 2 instructors yelling & hand signaling instructions at riders wearing full face helmets while riding 250cc motorcycles, I'll just say I found myself going around in circles literally and figuratively. If you are a beginner, I highly recommend a private lesson before attending a group lesson. I'm a VERY HAPPY RETURNING CUSTOMER (student) eager to further improve my motorcycle skills with "Ride 2 Ride Again" and its EXCEPTIONAL instructor "ILYAS". ILYAS provides extraordinarily enjoyable and highly effective 1-to-1 motorcycle instruction. I first met ILYAS 15 YEARS AGO in about 2009. Fifteen years ago in 2009, I had just begun riding a used motorcycle and I needed to get my California M1 motorcycle license endorsement. To get my M1 endorsement, I enrolled in a 2-day school that had about 35 students, all taking that class at the same time - - this was the "large group school" that I enrolled in BEFORE I found ILYAS and his very enjoyable and highly effective 1-to-1 motorcycle school. Unfortunately, the crowded 2-day school was a very disappointing and highly nerve-wracking experience for me. That 2-day school was fully packed with about 35 nervous beginner students who knew nothing, just like me. And a few of the students were jerks. Because of the very uncomfortable and sometimes disorganized large-group environment, it felt like I was in a badly managed high-school class, and we were all learning only 10-percent of what was being taught. Due to the very bad student to teacher ratio at that 2-day school, no "personal instruction" was available. I still remember the guy next me saying "we're on our own". At that 2-day school, the absence of personal instruction and the crowded and sometimes disorganized atmosphere resulted in 8 students leaving by the end of the 1st day. I stayed for the entire 2-days, but I knew I learned very little for the money that I paid. And I knew that I could NOT pilot a motorcycle with anything approaching "solid skill" and reasonable confidence. In 2009, after my bad experience at that 2-day school, I LUCKILY FOUND ILYAS and his personal 1-to-1 school. LOL, between the 2-day school and ILYAS's 1-to-1 instruction, the comparison of learning-effectiveness is NIGHT AND DAY ! With ILYAS I also had fun and I enjoyed his instruction, compared to the unhelpful stress that I felt throughout the 2-day school. I rented a Honda nighthawk 250 for Babes Ride Out. I would have picked something bigger but I reserved it pretty last minute and the 250 was all they had left. The bike was perfect all weekend. No issues whatsoever and I didn't feel like it was lacking power for the type of riding I was doing. I even had a passenger for most of the weekend, because my friend's bike broke down at the start of the trip. For three days I paid what I would have paid to rent from eagle riders for only one day! My experience with Ilyas and Tia was also great. I worked with Ilyas to reserve the bike the week before via email, texting and phone calls. When I arrived Tia greeted me, showed me the bike and handled all the paperwork and payment. She helped us get the bike and my friend's bike on our trailer. I signed up for the Harley Davidson CMSP course, and unfortunately, failed the riding test at the end of the weekend. After reading the Yelp reviews, I reached out to Ilyas, and within a day, I had my first session with him. He went over the basics, and within 5-10 minutes, he spotted my major issues, and began working with me to overcome them. By the end of my first 2-hour session, I had gained more confidence, and had less fears. But I knew I needed a little more time to internalize the lessons and solidify my confidence, so we setup another 2-hour session for a later time. And it was in that second session, that Ilyas was able to cement safe habits, ensuring that my new confidence would stick. With renewed confidence and ability, I scheduled my CMSP retest. Unfortunately, there was no room in the class for me to redo any of the exercises before the class. However, they did let me ride on the Harley for about 5-10 minutes before the test to get reacquainted with the bike and course. I quickly took to the course, and found myself comfortably passing each task. When the test finally came, I used Ilyas' exercises to relax and instill more confidence. I passed without any issues. I fully recommend Ilyas for improving your riding. If you're considering taking the CMSP course, I recommend taking 1-2 personal sessions with Ilyas first, and then taking the CMSP course. That will leave you with greater confidence, and a stronger starting point for riding. NOTE ABOUT CMSP COURSES I found the course extremely helpful, and while the instructors were knowledgable, experienced, and aware, they are teaching a large class. This restricts them from being able to hone in on improving your individual weaknesses. They do have a short period of time dedicated to sharing feedback with individual riders, but with the pace of the class, this is limited and may not provide enough feedback or focused improvement time for all riders. That begin said, in both classes, 80-90% of the class passed, so it does work for the overwhelming majority of riders. But even then, those that pass still need additional time to truly feel comfortable on a motorcycle, and that is where Ilyas can help you gain more confidence. WHEN SHOULD YOU HAVE A SESSION WITH ILYAS * If you want to see if driving a motorcycle would be for you. The perfect teacher. A bad teacher can make you think something is extremely difficult when it isn't. This happened to me ten years ago when I took a group motorcycle class. After 20 minutes, I couldn't get it and they told me to go home. I haven't attempted to ride since then... till I found Ilyas! He's patient, knowledgeable, and will always adjust his methods based on the student. Within a few minutes, I already felt like this was easy... unlike the class I took ten years ago. Awesome experience! Family owned business that truly cares about thoughtfully matching their riders to their bikes and ensuring you have a great and safe time! Reservation: I reserved a bike about two weeks in advance of my week-long trip to SoCal. I called in just to ask some questions and make sure the place was legit - the owners were very friendly and knowledgeable. Both husband and wife are riding instructors and know what it takes to stay safe in LA. I then emailed in a reservation, no pre-payment needed. They emailed to confirm the week of pickup. Pick-Up: I caught a taxi from LAX to their apartment where the business is run out of (~$25 taxi ride). The two story complex is right off the main road, walk around to the back and you'll see their open door and a couple bikes. Originally, they had brought out a brand new, sleek black Yamaha VStar for me to check out. (They have a few dozen bikes I believe, even though the website only features 4!) Being 5'0 and 100lbs, the sweet spot on the clutch was a little far out so they brought a second, a little older, gray Yamaha VStar for me to try. On both, they encouraged me to ride around and ensured I felt comfortable and confident on the bike. You never experience this level of patience, service or care outside family-owned businesses! Ride: As an experienced rider who originally trained in LA, I was eager to hit the road and indeed had an incredible week! The bike handled itself very well through the quiet suburbs of La Mirada, humming along the I5 carpool lane and cruising the hilly streets of San Diego. They even let me extend my reservation an extra day (just texted them)! Conclusion: Overall, you can't beat their service, not to even mention their rental prices!
