I just finished the basic riding lesson. All the instructors from the zoom call to the riding course were are knowledgeable and helpful. The zoom class kept you engaged to the point when you got on the course you knew what they were explaining. Chris and Rich on the course were like completely opposite people. Chris kept it light and entertaining to help you relax if you were like me a first time rider. Rich showed that tough love but kept telling ing to keep your chin up and you will get it. I took the next level up course, IRC (Intermediate Riders Course) with Taylor. Although I've been riding over 34 years and have taken several other types of rider training, Taylor was very thorough and had a very calm demeanor. He explained techniques very well and easy to understand. Whether you're taking the basic course or Intermediate course, I absolutely recommend OCMP for rider training. A vital program giving hands-on experience and knowledge. My class was taught by Chris, who made the class a ton of fun and came with a lot of experience. We were taught on modern motorcycles with lots of time in the seat to gain reps. My only critique is there were several people who slowed down the class as we tried to make progress, even after weeding out those who truly couldn't ride at all. I highly suggest this class to anyone before they get their license, and consider the more advanced classes as well. read more

Took this class a someone who's always wanted a motorcycle, but never had riding experience - I wanted to get a feel for if I truly wanted to pursue riding, plus the fact that it counts for the DMV skills portion of getting your motorcycle license doesn't hurt. The class is fast-paced, but they did ease you into it compared to what I was expecting going into it. They do expect you to catch on to skills quickly, but ultimately you're learning to ride a motorcycle safely and you only have so many hours to do it. The instructors are personable, helpful, and often humorous which is great to have, especially during the times when you're going through emergency situations where they bring you out of your comfort zone Overall I 1000% believe this class is the best investment for anyone who has never ridden a motorcycle or wants to improve their skills. It is absolutely worth the money. They teach you the fundamentals for riding a motorcycle, while helping you improve at the same time. My husband recently bought me a Vespa and I took this course in lieu of having to take my riding test through the DMV. They designed this as a three-day course, and you have the option to select a morning or afternoon class. The structure was as follows: * First Day: Zoom class meeting that reviewed general road rules, basic motorcycle operation, safety, and risks (3.5 hours) * Second Day: 5 hours at the range where we learned basic motorcycle operation and practiced starting, stopping, and turning; 3.5 hours in the classroom right after the range portion to cover other motorcycle safety rules and how to be aware of risks, properly assess, and develop the best action based on different scenarios. You also take a 50 question multiple-choice test at the end of this class that you must pass with at least an 80% score. * Third Day: 5 hours at the range where they cover hard stops, sharp turns, and swerving. In the last hour of this day, you will take the riding test, and you are told if you pass or fail shortly after. I had absolutely no experience in riding a motorcycle, and I felt that this class was tailored very well to those that are new to the road and those looking to brush up on their skills. I was the only woman in my class, and Bob made me feel very comfortable and safe throughout the course. Before we started on our range practice, Bob took me aside and fitted me to the motorcycle I felt most comfortable in. Bob and Ryan give excellent feedback as they observe you during the exercises. They're very encouraging and do not make you feel bad when you make a mistake. Taylor is also very knowledgeable and gives great safety tips when riding. Some suggestions for those that decide to take this course is to definitely pay the extra $40 for the second chance coverage. Not everyone passed this course, and this coverage allows you to take the class again should you not pass the first time around. I would also recommend studying and look through the reading material even after the classroom sessions. It is very fast-paced and can be a lot of information for someone that is brand new to riding. I didn't spend a lot of time reviewing the material and almost didn't pass the written exam. Overall, I found this course very helpful and beneficial. I recently got into riding again after a long time, so I decided to take the intermediate one-day training as I felt a little rusty and thought it would be a good idea to seek professional training. They allowed me to do the whole training on my own bike, but also offered nice 300cc BMWs that looked brand new. The course is well planned, and many important topics are covered, like throttle control, emergency braking, slow and high-speed maneuver, swerving, etc. The class structure is also great as we kept alternating between sitting class and riding. My instructor, Taylor, was very skilled and shared excellent knowledge. He would first demonstrate the exercises on his bike and provide detailed instructions. When it was our time to ride, he would keep advising me on how I could improve or do better. After a few runs, we would then be skill tested and move on to the next subject. At the very end, we took a multiple-choice test of 25 questions, which was relatively easy as we had just covered all topics during the day. After the course, I feel way more confident about riding, and I learned many skills that every rider should know. It's also important to note that although we learn valuable skills and improve our riding during the class, we still need to keep training to take them to the next level. Overall, I think the course is worth it and would recommend it to a friend; I also got my endorsement which is a plus on top of all the learning. For people with no riding experience tho, I would recommend the beginner course instead. I spoke briefly with their instructor, and he seemed like a very nice guy. read more

Rough weekend, wasn't an environment I felt confident in and felt both of the instructors were demeaning, impatient, and condensing. I originally had this class scheduled in October 2020. I did the zoom class and then showed up to the Saturday riding session. I had never been on a bike before. I knew being on the shorter side (5'6) I needed a lower to the ground bike. But they only had a few of those. So I was put on one of the BMV sport bikes they train with. I immediately was uncomfortable, because I couldn't flat foot while on the bike. I went for 2 exercises, until I tapped out and left the class due to feeling unsafe. Thankfully ( and this is the ONLY reason I am giving 2 stars) I was able to reschedule in January the rest of the class. In between the months I purchased an old trainer bike off a private seller. I started to learn the basics on my own, in hopes of returning to the class with more of baseline knowledge to feel more comfortable and get more out of the class. Second time around in the class I started off confident, because I knew the basics they were having us do. But it got increasing more difficult and fast paced without much investment in the students who had no riding experience. Not the class BUT the instructors tailored the class to experienced riders. NOT to mention it was pouring RAIN. The traction and conditions were very difficult for experienced riders and EVEN worse for brand new riders. Getting feedback that I wasn't going fast enough on corners when I could barely see through my glasses, and was a brand new rider was in my opinion unsafe. I failed the written by 2, and I take responsibility for that and not studying the material more. By the second day of the riding portion of the class I already felt a bit unconfident . Day 2 the asphalt was very slick. We started off with some slow speed maneuvers and moved to cornering. There were a few laid down bikes accidents and then myself and one other person low sided crashed while cornering. I thankfully got up and continued the class. I only had minor bruises. At one point one of the instructors in a condescending tone eluded to the fact that the accidents slowed us down. Which is true, but really don't need to kick a rider when they're down already. I felt that the instructors especially Bob made an example to the class about both crashes. The examples were made in front of myself and the other students who crashed. Talk about a shot to already wavering confidence on a bike. I was given about 3 minutes to get myself together to start on the track again. Taylor yelling to Bob I had 2 minutes to get back on the track. I didn't fill out anything after the crash (in the wavier it literally says harm can happen even due to the property or the total control companies negligence) so you sign away your right to take them to court for damages. Needless to say by the last 2 hours of the class including the test I was more unconfident on a bike then I had been since I started riding. I failed the riding test. I saw coming from a mile away (pun intended). I believe riding is 75% confidence 25%skill knowledge, and these instructors did not encourage much confidence at all, at least from my perspective. I suggest total control has a retraining of your instructors. I would not recommend this class to new riders. My partner was going to take this class, but they no longer will be going to this site. We are looking into other options of classes for her. I will be taking my permit test, and then practicing on the DMV course. Once I master the course I will be taking my riding test. If you are a NEW rider DO NOT take this class. Please save the $350 and invest that into some gear or a cheap starter bike. read more

Not For Beginner Riders. Makes you want to quit riding all together. Rude and impatient instructors make for a hostile and stressful classroom situations. You're better off learning in your alley with a friend than to pay for somebody to make you feel uncomfortable all day. They expect for you to know how to switch through gears, clutch/throttle play, and have riding experience as they only briefly explain the process and then rush you into riding faster, only to make you leave because of their incompetent teaching practices The least you could do is explain how to cycle from neutral to 1st gear. I took the Intermediate Riding Course (IRC) with OCMT and it was great. My instructor, Jim Schmitt, was awesome. He was patient, knowledgeable, kind and focused. Most of all he was such a motorcycle enthusiast you could just feel how much he loved riding. It's great when you have a person teaching you who is into it because its their passion. In addition to the added knowledge and skills I took away from this...I love the knowledge and tidbits I learn from my fellow students in the class. There's a nice camaraderie that goes on in the 2 courses I've taken. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned rider I highly recommend taking these very engaging motorcycle training courses. The statistic is that people that ride on 2 wheel vehicles are 38 times more likely to die than in automobiles got my attention. I took both the Basic and the Intermediate Riding Courses to help so I hopefully won't be contributing to those stats. read more

I'm a beginner with no riding experience at all. The class was very fast paced but the instructors did a great job of going over things and ask if any one needs clarification before we started an exercise on the bikes. Ask questions if you're unsure of what is expected from you they are more than happy to clarify. I had Bob and Chris as my instructors and they were great! Chris is very funny and makes the course less stressful but keeps his focus on safety and instruction. Bob also does a great job of making the experience feel less stressful I was never yelled at, while they do communicate corrections while you're riding they say it loud enough for you to hear over the sound of the bike, I wouldn't count that as yelling though. I wouldn't have been able to hear what they were saying if they hadn't raised their voice. Over all it was a good experience with. Y instructors and I successfully passed the course :). I stalled the bike a lot on the first day of riding and maybe a few times before the final evaluation. The first day is a long day because you go over the basics and spend about 3 hrs riding before heading over to the classroom to go over the rest of the handbook. It's a lot of information to take in but the 2nd day is easier as you feel more comfortable riding and do more exercise before going through the riding evaluation. I can't say enough good things about CHRIS and BOB. Both really good and passionate about their jobs and have the best attitude and patience with new riders. Thank you guys !!! Oh and they do mean RAIN or SHINE. It was raining both days I had my class. I bought some cheap rain gear for the weekend to keep dry because riding in the rain the first day was not fun at all. Spent about $30 at Walmart for the gear and it was definitely worth it. Obviously the rain gear isn't going to last long at that price point but it did what I needed it to for the weekend. read more

TLDR: don't choose this one if u don't want to deal with $ and scheduling. Terrible experience with the logistics and the office. I was late literarily 2 mins late because of traffic and they literarily told me my boots is not qualified right be fore the class and I had to get the boots that morning, and therefore the delay. Then they don't allow me to the class, saying it's going to take a while for checking and the class has started. The instructor was just doing self-introduction and I guess that's really important to them. Also Trust me, they spend 1 minute joking around before they spend 3 seconds to check your stuff per person. That is speaking from my general experience when I was standby in later weeks. Guess part of the reason is that you have to pay 125$ to come back as a standby student. I can understand that if they want to ensure people show up and they don't lose revenue, but 2 mins makes the disqualification intentional. I emailed the office a couple of times before they finally replied due to the holiday, and was told that they have my name on the course the next weekend, so I kept going there to hope for a vacant spot. After a couple of times no luck, they finally had someone not showing up. However they told me my name is not on the standby list even tho they said they ensured it in the email. As the instructor was trying to getting me the gear, the office called and told them to refuse to get me in the course, probably because my name is not on that list. The instructor was like nothing he could do, and neither did I. So I just left. BTW they don't cancel class when it's raining heavily :). I just want to make one point clear: there're a lot more options in the market, and this one doesn't have any clear competitive advantages at all. And finding a school isn't the only way to get certified if you are new riders. If you don't want to get into this mess there're many alternatives. Think twice if you choose this one. read more

I should have read more of the reviews before I decided to sign up for this class. I totally agree with a lot of comments on here. The younger instructors are A$$ Holes. We are LEARNING how to ride so why are we being yelled at? I dropped my bike and of course they were all worried about law suits and damaged equipment, but as soon as I got back on the bike and I didn't immeditately get into formation because of the jitters, I was yelled at again. I truly believe that the instructors KNOW how to ride, but that doesn't make them good instructors. Hell, I know how to do math, but I can't just walk into a school and be hired on as a teacher. I've had 2 other friends whom received way better schooling at other places. What a waste of $250! With so many other motorcycle classes, do not choose this one. read more

There is absolutely no replacement for a genuinely great instructor. Im sure there are thousands of very experienced riders that can teach a course, but having a GREAT instructor like Robert "Bobby", makes a world of difference. My very very very first time on a motorcycle and Robert made the entire experince a great one. Robert was super encouraging and gave the right input to progress and gain more confidence. I passed the class, but even if i didnt, there is no doubtting the next level instructing by Robert. A few suggestions would be to atleast bring a head sock or whatever if you dont have your own helmet. It got pretty sweaty inside the loaner here and i for sure wouldnt do that if you're a germaphobe. Overall, fantastic experience. If you do not know how to ride take the 3 day class. I guess For experienced riders w their own bike, save your money! He will find a way to disqualify half of the class to start. I talked to him from 0615 to start of class, then at 0700 my over the ankle leather boots and reflective jacket did not have enough padding around the ankle or armour in the jacket. I had my Red Wing work boots in my truck and he had a too small jacket for me to use. I am a big dude and had a hard time reaching the foot controls on the little BMW 200 with the work boots and was asked to leave He encourages signing up for the 3 day course at a discount, I guessing another $250, after sending me home. Here is how you do it. Go to DMV in person and make an appointment. (You can get an appointment with out this course if you go in person) Practice at the DMV course after hours or in a vacant parking lot. Go to your appointment with your moto permit, DOT helmet, registration, insurance and reasonable riding gear. Show up to the appointment with your moto in good working order, smash the test and get your license, read more

This is not for beginners cuz its a very fast pace learning. I'm a beginner rider and the 1st day they went over very Quickly the friction zone and the importance of clutch and throttle. Within 45 min of class time a student was hurt and failed the course. 2 of the instructors (Taylor n Ryan) both acted like they didn't want to be there, impatient and had no passion to teach us. Taylor and Ryan should do a better job ensuring your Safety, build on your riding skills and ability to pass the riding test! The other instructor Bob was helpful, Friendly and patient with the group. Only 2 bikes to choose from; Honda rebel or BMW. I chose the rebel cuz it's close to what my bike is. I did have an issue with shift peg; my tips of toes could reach it so very difficult for me to shift gears. My gear shifting was not graceful and cost me speed thru some the courses. I didn't want to change bike and ride the BMW cuz that's not my style of riding. The 2 days of riding the courses I never dropped my bike or put my foot down; on the test courses I didn't touch a cone but they failed me. Feedback from Ryan on my test was my speed was too slow at 15 mph to 18 mph needed to be at 20 mph to 25 mph and on 1 course my eyes looked down. ALL of the beginner riders failed in my class. The one's who passed was the 2nd time riders and the one's who have been riding for awhile. I will not go back for the 2nd time and pay the $50.00 fee just to try to pass the riding test again. I took my first class after 50 years of riding this past weekend at Saddleback College. The class was their "Intermediate" class taught by Michael. The class was small - 5 students with varying degrees of experience. This is a slow speed, "Total Control" class, offering much needed and appreciated guidance, teaching and feedback. I recommend the class, the instructor was very competent and a good communicator. I'll take this class again in a couple years, simply to work on keeping my skills up. read more

I pased the written course and did well on the hands on course but was failed on that test where you have to stop dead on a line and not before or a few feet after. I felt like I was judged harshly. I don't know why. They are sympathetic to female riders especially giving extra attention to younger good looking ones and they passed two that struggled the whole time on the riders course who couldn't even do the basics. I learned on my own anyways and so can you. Just buy a bike and practice in your neighborhood and borrow a Grom to take the test at the DMV and your sure to pass. 20 years ago I bought a cheap bike, rode it for a couple months without a license, and crashed it. Now that I'm older and wiser I feel like this course is an absolute minimum necessity for anybody who wants to attempt to survive riding in SoCal. I would've taken it even without the benefit of getting the DMV skills waiver. I got a permit and a beginner bike 4 months ago, practiced low speed drills I found on youtube twice a week, and was able to pass this course today to get my full license. I'm really glad I practiced a lot beforehand, as I was able to learn without being stressed about falling, stalling, or not knowing how to turn on the motorcycle. A guy in my class seemed pretty intimidated and said that he felt really unprepared. Another guy dropped his bike and seemed stressed all weekend, and another guy low-side crashed around a 12mph turn on a sunny, dry course. If you sign up for this course and attend it without studying every page of the guide, and expect to be handheld thru finding neutral, I think it's 50/50 you'll pass, and I'm sure you won't have a very good time even if you squeak thru. Alternatively, if you practice a lot first and go in eager to learn, you'll have a good time, learn the basics stress-free, and get awesome practice in a controlled environment with professional instructors. read more

I would like to thank Taylor and Bobby to spending many hours to help me improve and become more comfortable on the the new bikes that they had. I would put there that if you been to other course then you are use to a lower bikes which are more of a cruiser but the bikes that this school had are more a sport bike type. I think it's called dual sport. I could be wrong but after speaking with Taylor who is a instructor at the course. He told me why they shift more to the sports bike then cruiser is because the rebel which is lower and easier to ride in my personal preference was because of the ABS which are more on modern sports bike and a lot of us are here to learn how to ride a sports bike style then a cruiser especially those "speed demons". After being allowed to come back many times. I could tell that I have improved a lot. I will now list some pros and cons which I believe could help new bikers understand. Thank you Taylor and Bobby for being patient with me and helping me become a better rider Pros: *Taylor and Bobby was really helpful and understand. * new bikes so have easier find the fiction zone * really helpful staff "Christie" *didn't know about this but if your uncomfortable they will help and change instructors if certain personality doesn't fit between one of the instructor and you. Con: * The beginning when getting used to the friction zone .Wish we had alittle bit longer time on getting use to the bike and being comfortable. * Having interactive learning when the group is split into two groups helped me a lot. * Allowing students to see the the course we need to do on the manual helps since some people are visual learner based on books then road since we can see it from the high viewpoint and giving people option to see the riding course on the manual and pin point helps a lot and then one of the instructors riding the course could help ask better questions and become better riders in the end In my opinion. * Providing tips on how to not stall the bike instead of just saying you released the clutch too quick. For example, you can tell the students who are stalling while riding to walk the bike by counting 1 to 5 on the step while releasing the clutch since that is a tip I learned from zoom classroom which helped me become more proficient on finding the friction zone and finding when to put small amount of throttle so that the bike doesn't stall.
