Rideout Hospital - 3AM Flank Pain, Anxiety Poops, and an RN Named Sara Who Deserves a Trophy I rolled into Rideout Hospital around 3AM on Sunday, July 27th, after hours of battling whatever-the-heck-was-happening to my right side. Flank pain from hell. I tried everything at home Tylenol, ibuprofen, deep breathing, mild crying, you name it. I finally gave up pretending I could handle it and decided to go in, expecting the usual ER horror story: packed waiting room, dismissive staff, and being told to just "walk it off." Nope. Plot twist, it was EMPTY. I was checked in and seen in literally 10 minutes. My BP was sky-high (169/90), and the team jumped into action like a Nascar pit crew. I was given oral pain meds, labs were drawn, and soon I was moved to the back where the real MVP of this story appears: RN Sara. From start to finish, Sara was everything. She didn't just do her job she nailed it. She advocated for me, listened, and made sure I got the right pain meds. The doc was about to give me Dilaudid, but Sara was like, "Let's try morphine first" and she was right. It worked perfectly, and honestly, I don't think my body or my soul could've handled anything stronger. She took the time to assess what I actually needed, not just what was on autopilot protocol. Total lifesaver. And then came the most humbling part: anxiety hit me like a truck and brought along its BFF emergency bathroom runs. Every five minutes, there I was, speed-walking to the bathroom in between waves of panic and pain. It was humiliating. But Sara? She never made me feel awkward or gross or dramatic. She was understanding, gentle, and even joked with me and my sister to keep the mood light. Bless her. Eventually, I got a CT scan because the pain was no joke, and while they didn't find anything alarming (just some good ol' constipation), they told me to come back immediately if the pain returned. The PA on call gave me a well-deserved "mom talk" about not mixing mega doses of Tylenol and ibuprofen like I'm a chemist with no consequences, which I appreciated. Stern but caring. By the time I left, I was pain-free, relaxed (ish), and just really grateful I had gone in. I was originally hesitant I mean, let's be real, women often get brushed off in ERs for pain. But not this time. I was taken seriously, cared for quickly, and treated with so much compassion. I hope whatever went down in my body that night never comes back, but if it does, I know exactly where I'm going. And if I'm lucky, Sara will be on shift again, because she is an absolute gem. read more

Very disappointing experience. My fiancé was treated here after an accident, and we've had an extremely difficult time getting in contact with the appropriate medical staff. The hospital entered an incorrect address, and correcting the error has been unnecessarily complicated. On top of that, several phone interactions felt dismissive and unhelpful. Patients dealing with medical issues shouldn't have to fight this hard just to get basic assistance. read more

I swear they just need to close Rideout hospital down ! This place is a shit show and idk y I even sent any of my family there or spent the funds at this shit hole ! Put some real drs in and staff to work ones that actually care and do thier job ! Look into the symptoms do a better job guys you make tons of cash to send all home to die or feels pretty damn close to it !!! Its so sad that we have such a bad hospital out here !! Don't ever go here. Takes 3 hours to get an x-ray. People who got there after me were getting them before me. I understand that it's "more urgent" but what's the difference between a hurt wrist and a hurt foot:/ I didn't even end up getting the x-ray I just left because it started getting to a point where everyone else was getting seen before me. I can't even imagine how long it would take to give you results! So annoying. I usually go to woodland but i didn't want to make the drive since i already had an appointment in yuba. Should've made the drive to woodland maybe then a hospital visit would've been worth it. Their true rating should be -1000!!!!!! The worst of the worst unless you classify it a drug dispensing center. These people do not deserve to be given a review. They are the absolute worst hospital in the United States. A family member went there for chest pain. Their solution was to give him morphine and send him home. Looking at his blood work results you can definitely see that he is ill. They told him he was discharged and then had us wait an hour to get a wheelchair before we could leave. Please don't ask the security guard anything because they talk to people like they are dogs. They are nothing more than Robo cops on steroids. They make you wait in the lobby for hours no matter what is wrong with you. They are a haven for drug users and treats all patients the same. They should not be called a hospital or an urgent care center. They should technically be called a drug dispensing center. Who gives most of their patients, including teenagers, morphine. You guessed it this one. Their new and improved look is just that, a look. They are as bad as they have always been. They may be worse. If you have a car please stay away from this place. read more

Spent about 9 hours at RideOut ER recently. Total waste of time. The care here is still slow and indifferent as ever. Communication is terrible. You are just left to sit on a hard plastic chair and wait. Triage nurses were particularly unhelpful and uncaring. read more

My girlfriend is in this hospital and she is a single mother. I am with her children while she is in there and they keep telling my girlfriend she is being discharged the following day for several days now. It has been almost a week since her 7 year old daughter has seen her and she misses her mother so I took her to visit her mom. These people here treated this child like an animal and told me she couldn't even be in the building at all and couldn't even be in the lobby and wasn't old enough to see her mother. What the heck is wrong with these people? If she were a teen ager she would have been able to but because she is younger and at the age developmentally where she needs visits with mom they make her go outside like an animal. This hospitals policy is age discrimination, lacks compassion and is damaging to the mental well being of children and parents in this case a mother who is trying to heal and a visit from her youngest child would lift her spirits and help her do that. Who in the world thinks this policy is beneficial to anybody. Children carry the same germs as adults but in cases like kovid don't generally spread it as easily because they get sick less easily and when they do the symptoms are mild which would mean they are barely shedding the virus unlike adults who get it. It is almost like the people writing this policy have a problem with children and have a total lack of compassion. They definitely don't have children of their own and if they do they lack that strong family bond with them most likely because they spend all their time at the hospital and don't have the time for their families. I guess misery does love company and if they can't have a bond with their children they want to make sure your children suffer as well. Don't go there if you are going to be a while and you have young children unless you want your child told they can't see their mom or dad and that they have to go wait outside in the rain because they are unwelcome inside the building. I seriously couldn't of birthed my baby girl without your help on April 13 2021. I swear I'm about to name my next child after you. You have such a bubbly personality and you're so caring it made me feel so comfortable in the most vulnerable time of my life. if I ever get pregnant again I need you to help me deliver again. Absolutely, most useless hospital in the area, sets the bar slower and lower every time. Do not recommend this place to my worst enemy. You're better off driving and going to Oroville or Colusa Hospital. Took my cousin in for serious abdominal pain, he couldn't stand or sit, had difficulty talking with the pain. They took their sweet time even registering. Had normal patients in the waiting room crying from pain that have been here for 5+ hours. But bums getting seen and treated instantly . If your looking for a place to get unhealthier this is the place. This place needs a serious audit and should be held accountable read more

Thursday morning around 3:30 my husband found me having a seizure on our bathroom floor. He called 911 and they rushed me to this hospital. As I was laying there in the hallway the nurses were standing around gossiping about a nurse who just got fired, male nurse with tattoos. They didn't seem to have a care in the world for the patients there needing help. I was finally put into a room around 430am I saw my nurse 1 times until shift change. When she did come in she made a comment that I was there for stomach pains and I corrected her and told her no I was there cause my husband found me having a seizure. She shrugged and walked away. I was never hooked up to any of the machines, never offered water or anything. Was never given anything for my headache (from hitting my head during the seizure), was never started on fluids. At shift change my new nurse finally came in and I expressed my concern of care to my new nurse and her response was "are you aware we are in a pandemic" Wow seriously I've been in the hospital for almost 5 hours at this point with zero care given to me. I was then given a covid test, which they informed me I was positive even though I haven't had any of the symptoms. They ruled my seizure as covid, finally gave me an IV bag, gave me two Tylenol's and then discharged me and sent me to the waiting room to wait for my ride to come get me. In the 7.5 hours I was in their care I was never offered water, food, a pillow, a tampon or pad (I mentioned multiple times I was on my period). I'm absolutely in shock at the level of care I received. They had no care in the world about my previous medical history and that I've been having issues with my health for the last few month. The staff at the hospital is a joke, the board should be embarrassed to even be associated with the hospital. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! If I could give this hospital negative stars, I would. Went to emergency in excruciating pain from the waist down, unable to walk, and having some abnormal bowl activity. I was there for eight hours, ignored even when I was crying in pain until I managed to explicitly beg for help to get in a less painful position (grudgingly provided). In eight hours I was never offered water, food, or even asked if I needed help going to the bathroom (I couldn't walk! Eight hours without peeing!). I asked for water at least a half dozen times, was promised it would be brought, and only got water once. They finally threw some pills at me and sent me packing, still unable to walk, no idea what was wrong, and blatantly ignoring the bowl irregularities that they observed, but didn't put in the discharge papers. We got here at 1030 and it's about 4 and we are still waiting for a dr to come see us. I'm so impatient when it comes to waiting. I wish my moms regular dr did house calls. My back went out again. Went to the ER, then my doctor -who prescribed me a cane and offered a prescription for ibuprofen and benadryl. So I went back to the ER, and they took x-rays, found 5 fractures and now I need an MRI because they think my spinal cord is is being pinched and I'll need surgery. I believe I had a miscarriage in January I was in pain and bleeding out and came here to find out thinking that they would do an ultrasound to confirm it because the pregnancy test was weird I took at home and they aren't always accurate. They gave me a pregnancy test and said I'm having a normal period. I'm disappointed because i never had a period that painful and I couldn't hardly walk. read more

I went in with kidney stones and was in massive pain and could not sit or stand and was puking constantly I was put out in the waiting room for hours and told to suck it up and wait for a room i was not serious enough. Horrible per usual. They have no sympathy for there patients. So unorganized, employees walk around and chit chat about how someone said they're doing good. Have an attitude from the second you walk in, as If us patients coming in are a burden to them. They don't care about what you have going on. I'm 37 weeks preg and they have me waiting in the lab room. Jus so ignorant. They monitor me in the ER from labor and delivery & tell me that a dr is going to see me almost 2 hours go by & only have gotten blood done. I go tell them I want to leave and go else where the rn is super rude. Explained they're waiting on the blood work and urine. And I asked about the dr and they said no dr was coming to see me. So I asked to go, she sends someone else to take out my iv and they take it out right in the middle of hallway. Jus so unprofessional & inconsiderate. read more

Do not come here! My dad came in with horrible pain and they let him leave the same way after 5 hours of nothing! This is a waste of time to come here and many have told us this before and after this visit. The nurse and my dad both insisted that he get a catheter put in because he was retaining too much fluids which caused his pain. The Doctor did not listen and told my dad all he had to take was the meds she prescribed and that's all that could be done. Thank God someone told my mom to take him to Roseville because as soon he got there they treated him and put a Cather which immediately released all the fluids. This doctor was not doing her job and my dad's bladder could of ruptured or worse because of her negligence and I will be filing a complaint because I'm afraid she's going to keep denying services and not doing what's in her scope of practice. read more

I wish I couldn't leave a star. Took my mom in on Labor Day about 6am for severe lower back pain. They took her back put her on a bed and for 7 hours waited. They wanted a non contaminated urine sample. Test came back clear so she was released. Two day later at 2:30 am she is still in severe pain. This time they kept her in weighting room for 5 hours did the usual blood and urine I also insisted on a scan. They did a CT oh and also gave her tramadol for pain. Did not work. CT scan came back they said it was a UTI in her back and prescribed Keflex. It's done and she is still in pain 10 days later. I called doc day of getting released and they can't see her till Monday. What am I to do Rideout. I should file a malpractice suit. You need seasoned nurses and doctors assigned to the Emergency Dept. no one cares for anyone and all the do is chatter. I have also witnessed an elderly gentlemen keep asking about a ride home while in a wheelchair in waiting room and all they did was bring him water and no push to the bathroom. He was still there when we left. I should of drove the hour to Sutter Roseville. Grrrr!!! read more

This place is an absolute joke. This so called emergency room is dirty, unhelpful and should be shut down. Went to the ER and spent countless hours with no help only to be moved to a makeshift curtain room to listen to the nurses chat about their personal lives with colorful language. My visit there concluded with no visit from a doctor and leaving worse off than when I admitted. Not to mention being bombarded by people (maybe homeless?) in the parking lot. read more

I just wanted to say that I had a miscarriage yesterday and lost a lot of blood. I went to the RideOut Emergency and they were packed with people. People that were being polite and waiting patiently, people complaining about not being able to breath due to overdosing on pot, and people that where literally there to get there drugs filled and actually trying to fight each other and other nurses. I got there at 2 and didn't get to go home until 8:30. What i saw there the whole time, not one guard or nurse frowning due to people treating them like shit. They were super helpful. When I finally got a room my doctor was Mark S Agness and he was comforting, and just amazing at his job. He counseled me and my husband on what happened and I'm just every impressed with their great hospitality and loyalty to there job. Thank you Ride-out emergency. read more

I'm overeating this place by giving a one star rating. I waited 7 hours only to be rudely told by the dr that she was busy handling other patients. Now it wasn't so much the wait that bothered me, but the rude response from the unprofessional "Doctor". If you have an emergency, you're better off staying sick than coming to this shit hole place. Try to avoid this ER at all cost and to be honest, you're better off staying home because they won't do anything for you here. You'll die while waiting to be seen. read more

They were very nice and helpful yesterday. I am disabled, and they were very accommodating with helping me rest when I got in pain. It wasn't my turn to go back yet but they found a recliner for me to rest in. They even gave me lunch when I was being discharged because my blood sugar got low. read more

This place is a joke... I came in with chest pain's. Everything was done 10 minutes after I got here. I still have not even seen a doctor or had my vitals rechecked.I have been here now over three hours. I just asked how much longer would it be and they said my chart was up for review. How long does it take for a doctor to come look at a chart? You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. Only two doctors on staff that's a foul itself. Beware of Kathryn Trowell, the social worker. Ask for a different one!!! We had a tragedy happen with my young daughter. The way Kathryn delivered the bad news was unprofessional, she had a smile, kept smiling like it was no big deal, and was belitteling my older daughter and I. She didn't even provide translation. She caused my older daughter and I to cry. I don't know how someone can be so cruel and represent Rideout like that. She had no sympathy nor compassion! I took my son who had a deep wound in his finger in the middle of the night. 5 hours into our wait he was finally given Tylenol. 6 hours into our wait he was seen by a PA in the triage area which is not private at all. She looked at his finger referred us to a hand surgeon and told us to go sit back down in the waiting room. While in the waiting room someone came and put gauze on his finger and we were sent on our way. They did not even wash it or use an alcohol wipe. Nothing! I understand that his injury was not life threatening but no one was being seen. 6 people left while waiting. I can't believe they didn't even wash it! I was frustrated and after 4 hours I asked if they knew how much longer only to be treated as if I was being ridiculous for asking. Rideout this is why you have the worst reputation! We'd been warned to drive to Roseville! The lack of compassion and care not only for us but for the other people waiting was horrific! read more

I am only giving this "hospital" one-star because zero wasn't an option. I came to the emergency dept with my type-1 diabetic boyfriend who was vomiting non-stop for hours. When I walked in the triage nurses were sitting and using their cellphones and laughing while patients were waiting in line. I had to physically walk in and ask for help. When he finally got admitted, I had to repeatedly tell the nurses he was in pain and he wouldn't stop vomiting and reminding them that he was a diabetic. They checked his vitals but not complete. They didn't bother to check his blood sugar or temperature. The doctor put orders in for antiemetics and fluids but the nurses didn't get to it until almost an hour later. I would understand if they were busy. but every time I went to the nurses station to ask, they were just sitting around and laughing with other co-workers. After he finally got some care and relief, I had to remind them to check his blood sugar and when they checked his blood sugar, it took them literally 6 times to get a reading. I ended up just checking his blood sugar myself and let them know when he was low and high. when we were about to be discharged, they wanted to check if he could tolerate fluids by giving him juice WHEN HIS BLOOD SUGAR WAS ALREADY HIGH and they did not give him insulin to go along with it. I had to remind the nurses he was a diabetic to get an alternative drink to test it. I was worried the whole time I was there, I felt like I had to tell them to do everything because they didn't know how. The nurse giving him his Phenergan injection didn't know where to give it and had to repeatedly ask another nurse where it goes. I didn't feel safe leaving him to even go to the restroom. I too work in healthcare as a nurse and tried my best to step out of the way and let them work... it just seemed as though they had no clue what the were doing and that they didn't care. They obviously don't communicate with each other regarding patients because I had to even remind the ER doctor my boyfriend was a type 1 diabetic. I would not recommend this "hospital" to anyone. Worst care and the place is filthy. And I did try to get him transferred but the doctor kept giving me the run around. Don't go here. read more
