I got a second opinion from a highly rated mechanic. The part was available, but the issue was only a minor annoyance. There was no risk of breaking down or causing damage. I should easily get another 50k miles out of this car. They only recommended some overdue preventative maintenance that Riethmeyer's failed to do before. Riethmeyer's messed something up in my previous service, too. They fixed it for free, but I had to take it back. This latest experience was their second chance. I was highly disappointed with this auto repair shop. I was very professional in communication the entire time, and the staff was as well. However, I felt very taken advantaged of when I had a diagnostic done on my car. I was charged over $200 to run a diagnostic on my vehicle because apparently it took them 2 hours to perform the diagnostic. I paid for it and was very professional. But I was quite annoyed. In addition, as a result of the diagnostic I was told that I "NEEDED" over 1K of work done for my car to PASS the inspection. Well, I received a 2nd and 3rd opinion from other mechanics, and I was told that was ridiculous and that ALL of the work the original car repair shop mentioned was not necessary in order to pass the inspection. This is why a lot of people do not trust the auto repair industry because of situations like these. Lesson learned. I should have done more research on this place and pushed back a bit more on the pricing. I spent over $200 but it could have been worse if I paid them over 1K on top of that to make repairs that they said was "necessary" according to them. We were having a buzzing sound in my mom's car. I had taken our car tto this place before in the past. Initially we thought they were good, but after I got a ridiculous quote on a turn signal issue in the hundreds and had someone else fix it for $41, I had not returned for a while. However, my initial experiences with them had been ok, so we decided to give them another try. We also very much liked that you can drop your car off at night and just leave the key. And I guess if you are in a real pickle, that still is a plus. OK, they did fix the buzzing sound, and that didn't cost much. However, they left a phone message that if we wanted they thought our tires and brakes needed repair, but otherwise the car was ready. I had not had any problems with my tires and brakes, so we did not call them back. They had said the car was ready to pick up in the phone message, so I assumed that was that. So then we called about another vehicle and discovered that the car was not ready because without our permission they had pulled all the tires off. I was floored because we had not given any permission to mess with tires or brakes. They said they would have them back on by the time we got there. I gave him what for about because they can damage cars doing repairs. You don't touch things you don't need to. And I believe they did damage the car. So when I get home I thought I should check my tire pressure since they had messed with them. The tires on my Honda are supposed to be inflated to 30 PSI, so imagine my shock to discover that 3 of them were 36 and the other at 37PSI. I waited a little while and then bled the extra air out. And the next day I double checked them when they were cold. Ended up adding about 1 PSI back. But now my tires are slightly quivering at high speeds. I have also noticed that the car itself has developed a rattling sound. I looked on youtube just now and discovered that one of the primary reasons for rattling like that are problems with the tie rods going into the tires THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN TOUCHED. Yes, my tires were kind of old, but they had not been giving me any problems. And now they are. They claimed at the time that two of the tires had bald spots and that the brakes were going. I won't say I know a lot about cars, but I recall my dad telling me that the brake pads will start squealing way in advance of going out. Plus, my tires have been keeping pressure perfectly. I check them fairly regularly. So now I guess I will replace them and probably have to replace the ties rods as well, unless Costco can fix that for me when they replace the tires. But it really ticks me off when a car place is so keen to add things to your bill that fiddle things that were working and then cease to be. I don't go to get one thing repaired to get new things messed up. And minimally they should have known that the tires are 30 PSI because it says that on driver door. So I no longer have any faith any Riethemeyer's. And if the business owner feels like responding, don't bother responding (at least not for doing it on my behaalf because you have lost my business for good. BTW, the place that fixed my turn signal issue for about $41 or so was on 2222 next to the Koenig inspection place. I can't remember the name of it. Unfortunately, I believe he only does smaller repairs, but I have never regretted going to him FWIW. read more

I wanna start off by saying all the people i interacted with while I was here were extremely friendly and nice. However a story told toooooo often they tried to rip me off BAD. My air conditioner stopped working a few weeks ago and I took it to them within a day or so and they checked it out and told me that it was an electrical problem and explained it but I obviously I only understood the main point. They quoted me at $400 plus dollars and told me my car would be there about a week. I waited a few days for my dad to come back into town and look at it and a fuse blew. A FUSE! I spent less than $20 to fix it and it only took 2 minutes and they tried to charge me $400+ and a week to fix it?!?!?! That's just super wrong. So if you go here make sure you double check what is wrong because they might just try to completely rip you off if you don't know anything about cars ‍ read more

This review is long overdue. I went to Riethmeyer's a few months ago after the guys at Autozone told me I needed a new alternator on my 2013 Honda CR-V. I was shocked and needed as second opinion. I called Reithmeyer's based on their Yelp reviews and the owner kindly offered to take a look free of charge. I took my car in the next morning, they looked at it right away and told me I didn't need a new alternator. They pushed a few buttons and the car's error messages went away. A few months later... the CR-V is working just fine! What really stood out to me was how the owner hated the fact that someone had tried to hose me. Riethmeyer's ROCKS! So refreshing to find an HONEST auto shop! Quick story: Army buddy's daughter called with car problems. She was in town from Del Rio. Subaru was running terrible. The dealer in SA had replaced 4 spark plugs for $300 (REALLY?, yes REALLY), told her it needed $3000 worth of work, timing belt, heads rebuilt etc. NOT! Had it towed to Riethmeyer's. In on Monday, out on Tuesday. One new spark plug, air filter, and for good measure a new AC idler pulley too. Runs like a champ and she's back on the road with a smile. Now we have a mechanical shop that we are happy to recommend to friends and family. read more

I don't know very much about cars, so going to a mechanic can be nerve wracking. Ever since I've found Riethmeyer's I don't worry anymore. They always fix my car fast and never try to push any unnecessary work on me to inflate the bill. Shortly after I moved to Austin my car broke down in the HEB parking lot. My boyfriend did some calling around for me and found Riethmeyer's just around the corner. They promised to take a look at it right away while I waited, and they even put my groceries in the employee fridge for me! The waiting room is pretty small and doesn't have a lot of the perks that some places have, but I think that just means they don't charge as much. Riethmeyers is not the closest shop to my house, but because of the trust, fair pricing, use of quality products and craftsmanship, I always drive the extra distance to use this shop. Here's my story. Since I've been taking my cars to this shop for nearly 20 years, I asked Sandy if I should trade in one of my used vehicles for a new one. Sandy says, "Hold on one second..." She goes to the back office, then returns to the front with a report showing that for the past 4 years I was spending less than 5 cents "per miles driven" for maintenance. First, I didn't realize that they've been keeping mileage and maintenance records of my cars. Second, they helped me realize that keeping my current cars would be better. A bit frustrated with the shop. Brought in my older Tahoe for a radiator problem. They replaced it, but it turned out to be a bad unit. Understandable, but it took 3 visits to get it right. (And 3 times getting rides, taking time from work, etc.) I've also had front end problems with steering and noise. Asked them to look. Was told, "Don't see any problems." They were able to schedules my job in a very reasonable time frame and completed the job when they promised. The transmission and clutch work as well as it did when it was new, 16 years ago. I've done business with this repair shop for years and years.Use to be an honest place.I took my truck in to have steering column repaired and a choke cable installed.My estimate was around $ 350.Went to pick it up the bill was $ 545.00.As I was leaving a employ there stopped me and said your brake light on driver side was out.Ok we put a bulb in.and still didn't work.They checked it out and told me that it was in the steering column.Which they had just torn apart and put back together.All lights were working when I took it in.So I said fix it Since they tore it apart I know the sniped a wire are something during the repairs.They called late Friday afternoon to let me know it was ready.But charged me another $ 250.00 for that repair that they screwed up themselves.I asked where the owner was and they told me they sold out to another company and were no longer the owners just using the name.From what use to be an honest mechanic shop to not so much anymore Looking for another trust worthy mechanic shop now read more

We have used Riethmeyer's since 2000. They have to be one of the most reliable and honest shops in town. We have had brake jobs, air conditioning repairs, tune ups, cooling system repairs. We have never been disappointed with their service. They have never tried to sell us repairs we didn't need, and have never "creeped" the bill up on us. In the last two weeks we have spent nearly $2,000 in repairs on two seperate cars. In one case we almost took an alternator replacement job to another shop that was closer for the wrecker to tow me too. My wife got on the phone with Sandy at Riethmeyer's and they quoted nearly $300 less to replace alternator. The extra $20 bucks tow to this shop was worth it. As long as Sandy, Keith and Terry are running the place we will be taking our cars there. read more
