Came for an oil change 5months ago and recently changed my own oil. Stupid of me to not check the level beforehand but it was a decent amount passed the max line. Luckily nothing bad happened, but always potential this could have done serious harm that I won't see until later down the road. Also they used a relatively cheap oil filter, think it was ac delco. Its not a terrible filter but for a few more bucks you can get a much better one. I would not recommend this place simply because they didn't fill the oil to the correct level. read more

Have been there twice, and won't go there again. They always find a way to inflate the price and add more items that need fixed. The first time I was feeling a burnt smell from the front of the car. They said the head gasket needs to be replaced. $300 later, the smell was still there. When I asked them, they said: "Well, it could be something else, but the head gasket really needed replacing." OK. Not sure why I went a second time, but this time it was for a belt replacement. They, of course, found a couple of other things that needed to be done. We agreed on a price. When my wife went to pick up the car, there was $60 extra charge. When I asked for explanation, the guy told me that he couldn't give me the price WE HAD AGREED TO!!! read more

Because I'm young and a woman I was worried I'd get overcharged, but Michael treated me and my car with utmost respect. He was very communicative and explained all the work, listened well and did the exact repairs I needed to get my car on the road, nothing more. He even pinned my bumper back as an added bonus. SUMMARY: They fixed the slow leak in my tire for $28.25 total (labor, parts, and tax), faster than they said they would. I called to try to make an appointment. Daniel said it's walk-in only, and I was looking at "a few hours" if I brought it in at that time because they were really busy. I brought it in, and they had it fixed and ready in only about two hours. And can't beat the price. read more

One of my least favorite parts about being an adult is dealing with flat tires. Changing a flat tire always takes longer than I expect it will, my hands get incredibly dirty in the process, and, in my personal experience, I've ALWAYS had to buy a new tire because my old one is destroyed. Basically, when I get a flat tire, it's going to be a bad day and shit's gonna get expensive. I got a flat tire the other day and it was no exception. The tire had metal sticking out, so I knew there was no way it could be easily patched up, and, even if someone could fix it, I wouldn't want to drive on it. Yelp informed me that Galaxy was pretty close to my house, so off I went. There was a little bit of a wait when I got there, so I got everything set up and then came back in the afternoon. The guy at the front desk was super helpful and I feel bad that I forgot his name. He looked over all my tires and told me that my other front tire was also showing signs of cracking, so I'd probably need to replace that one, too. He didn't pressure me into replacing both, which was nice. I wasn't excited about the prospect of buying two tires at once, but I like to be safe so I went ahead and got two. He asked what my price range was and I informed him that I wanted to stay on the low side, if possible, but nothing too cheap because I don't like buying cheap tires. Basically, just let me know what the mid-range options are. He was super helpful and let me know my options and, in the end, I selected the tires that they use for their shop car. (The brand is Kelly, if you know anything about tires.) Once I arrived to have my tires changed, I only had to wait about 30 minutes. They pick up the tires from a warehouse that is pretty close to their location, which is nice, so you don't have to wait long. They put my spare and everything back in my trunk, made sure all my tires were aired up, and sent me on my way. It set me back a pretty penny, but you can't really put a price on safety, you know? Paying for tires is just a fact of life if you have a car and I feel I got a fair deal compared to when I've purchased tires in the past. Hopefully I don't need to buy any more tires any time soon, but I'd come back here when my back tires need to be replaced. Knock on wood that that date is far, far in the future. read more

I walked out of my house Saturday morning to find a completely flat tire. First of all, thank God for AAA. After talking to our great tow truck driver (Juan's the best), we decided to bring the car over to Galaxy - A big leap of faith for me since they only have one Yelp review at this location! Our AAA call operator told us the shop was open at 7, but they actually open at 8 on Saturday. As we sat in the parking lot trying to decide what to do, Danny pulled up to open the shop. He very nicely agreed to take a look at the tire even though they weren't officially open yet. We were in and out with a patched tire by 8am. This shop is operated in a very straightforward manner. They're matter-of-fact about what needs to be done and don't try to BS you with fluffy bottom-line padding. The waiting room is very clean and pretty new. The best part is that Danny brings his adorable, sweet dog Callie to the shop every day. She's friendly, but not overwhelmingly so. (Don't let that deter you if you're not a dog person. Danny puts her in another room if you ask him to.) read more

Oh my god what a fantastic automotive repair shop. The technicians are so smart I can't believe they fixed my problem with my Car's computer system. These guys are kind gentle and they take it easy on your pocketbook. I got out of there for about half of what somebody else wanted to charge me. They fix the problem the first time with no issues no surprises no callbacks just air is what it's gonna cost and then they took care of it. I was driving along and my battery light came on and I lost power steering, so after a tow (thanks AAA!) I came here. It was a Saturday around 2pm and they were closing at 4pm (and weren't open on Sunday) but they were able to get everything fixed that day. They even stayed a bit late (4:30) to finish, even though I'm sure they were ready to go home. The staff was super helpful and friendly, explained what was going on, and what I needed to get fixed. When they gave me a quote my dad said it was a little on the pricy side, but I figured I was there already and didn't want to get towed somewhere else, and he said it was certainly reasonable (esp because they were going to fix it right away). As an added bonus, they are super close to in-n-out, so I went over and grabbed a burger while I waited. So that was pretty nice :) read more

Danny and his crew are great. They're honest, cost-conscious, they stand by their work, and they genuinely care about the customer. For example, I had a dead battery a while ago and they replaced it, along with one of the connectors. They only replaced one because the other seemed fine, so they didn't want to unnecessarily charge me for work I didn't need. Later, that connector did indeed fail and need to be replaced, which they did, for free. They earned a customer for life after that, and they haven't let me down yet. read more

My tire went flat in a really bad spot but that didn't matter to him he was polite didn't complain and had a smile on his face the whole time I really respect tow-truck driver so much because when they're coming to rescue you their lives can be in danger especially in Austin. I could not have had a better experience at an automotive shop! I live in south Austin but so glad I found this place. My car died on the highway and I took it to firestone to get a new battery. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the battery light was still on after I got it back from firestone. So it died again and I got it towed from AAA. I was recommended to this place from AAA tow truck driver. Turns out it was an Alternator issue. I got 3 different prices for an alternator from different shops. Galaxy's price was the best plus labor! Danny was knowledgable, honest, and nice. He first waived my diagnostic charge and then replaced ONLY what needed to be replaced. I had my car back the very next day at 2pm after leaving it there late afternoon the day before. I will definitely be coming back here! They even do AAA discounts! Danny even took the time to show me additional information about my car too when I picked it up. While my dealer told me they couldn't look at my car that was dead in a parking lot and wouldn't drive, I had my car towed to Galaxy and they looked at it right away and identified the problem and let me know what they issue was. Galaxy apparently is based in California. This is a continuation of a previous issue that I also reviewed for Galaxy Automotive in San Antonio, Tx. The alternator that Galaxy in San Antonio, installed went bad. I was in Austin at the time and actually took the vehicle to Ben White Automotive on the south side. The alternator was still under warranty. So after arguing with Daniel Raygoza (who apparently lives in California) and telling him that after my last experience with Galaxy, I wasn't about to let them work on my vehicle. So he agreed to replace the alternator, they would refund my money for the alternator and have Ben White actually install it. Ben White Automotive installed it and it's been fine, but this has been going on since May 31st, 2017. I've been getting some runaround about Galaxy in Austin not having a copy of the receipt for the replacement alternator from the distributor and that the main office in California has a copy. I think you've had more than enough time to find the receipt. Rarely do I have such a good experience with a car repair shop and I'm not easily impressed. My car had a problem very late at night with two wheels and tires. AAA recommended towing it here as it was close. Danny called me back the following morning, checked out the vehicle and then called me back without prompting from me. When I told him I had a warranty on the tires through Firestone, he recommended I tow it to the nearest one about two miles down the road, rather than spend money fixing just part of the problem. He did not even charge me to look at the car! In the time I was there waiting for the tow truck, I saw two other customer service experiences that were exceptional. One customer even told me how honest and great Danny is when she was leaving. This is a great shop that is AAA approved. The serpentine belt on my van went out and Danny had a new one on within an hour. I could tell they are pros so I asked for the free AAA 40 point inspection. They found a few issues that I was already vaguely aware of and provided quotes for each that were more than fair. Upper and lower ball joints on one side, front brakes and shocks. I went with the recommendations Danny provided as I could tell he's got a lot of experience and is a master of his craft. This was a lot of work that took a bit longer but that was expected. I however was surprised again by how quick they got it completed. I'm back on the road and my van handling great now. read more

I broke down at the intersection of Airport Blvd and Manor Rd. I called AAA and the kindest tow truck driver recommended Galaxy for my repairs, as I am new to the area and unfamiliar with the shops around Austin I figured I would give it a shot. I left my keys in the drop box and gave the shop a call in the morning to explain my situation. The guys at Galaxy did an inspection to get an idea of the extent of the damage and estimated cost. They recommended I go through my insurance and gave me a breakdown of what happened and what parts would need to be replaced. Within 3 days, parts were ordered, repairs were made, and my car was back up and running. The staff at Galaxy was extremely friendly and detailed in their service. All complaints were from people who were referred via AAA. I appreciate the 10% discount, but id gladly pay it for better customer service. My experience was horrible, a lot of time wasted. My vehicle was crashed by a mechanic once they completed the initial issue. While they owned up to the incident and offered to fix it....The customer service was bad. Ill leave it at that. This place is awesome. It's affordable, quick, and gets the job done. I went in a few weeks ago to get my AC and brakes inspected. The gentleman at the front desk was so friendly and helpful. I dropped my car off and a few hours later they called to give me a quote. They said my brakes looked good and did not try to sell me on anything like some other car places do. They fixed up my AC and it works great now. The best part was that I got stuck in horrible traffic (not the best part!) and the guy stayed late so I could get my car that day. My car was brought to Galaxy Automotive after I broke down on the side of the road. It was after they had closed for the evening, but I felt confident my car was safe because I was able to drop my keys in a lock box there. The next morning I called and talked to Danny who helped explain to me everything that had happened with my car in terms that I was able to understand clearly. He never tried to force me into buying parts for my car that I wasn't sure of, or made me feel coerced into certain auto services they provided. Overall, I had a great experience with them!
