I stopped by for a Hazy IPA which I really liked. From the outside it was not much to see but the inside felt welcoming and clean. I was able to relax a little bit there after a stressful day at work. I also really loved this big wine bottle display. So they sell lots of wines here too. Might need to come back for some wine! read more

Rift is a super legit spot. I live pretty close by and today we took a scooter ride over. This place is neighboring one of my favorite hot yoga spots, and the optimal situation is a yoga class to detox then hop over to rift for a beer or wine ;) Rift has an excellent selection of beers on tap with some of my faves- Pure Project, Revision, and Wren House. They also have great can selection. The staff/ owners are super friendly and it's a very beautiful space that is comfortable and esthetically pleasing. They have some really great food trucks during the week and it can get pretty busy for those after work hours. read more

We have been going to Rift for some time, we live in the are and have family close. Their beer selection is incredible, with something to suit every taste. The rotating food truck options are a nice touch. The bar service is great--friendly, fast, and knowledgeable about the beer lineup. This is an awesome wine/beer room. They have plenty of great options to drink. They have bar, table and lounge seating with plenty of fun board games. My wife and I loved having a cute date night here. The staff are super friendly and helpful with any questions. They also seem to have a recording room in the back. If u judge a book by its cover, u're definitely missing out on this place! The outside appearance doesn't look like much, but take a leap and jump inside! There's a super cool vibe and refreshing feel waiting for u! They have couches for u to slouch on as low as u wanna go! My first time ever trying a wine called Bobal and what ever house brand they carry, it was YUMMY! I'm no wine connoisseur, so u'll have to try it for yourself! We closed down the place and the bartender was super patient & cool about it! I'll definitely catch another rift of this place soon! read more

We usually visit Rift when the RandomAf food truck is serving dinner outside -- the best birria!! But Rift has a great selection on tap and in cans that you can take home. They also have board games and plenty of tables to accommodate guests. When the weather is nice, it's nice to have the option to eat outside, but the ambience is definitely better inside, not next to the busy road. read more

We visit Rift regularly with the Aravaipa running group. The bartenders are so knowledgeable about their current tap list so I always just order "the best hazy ipa you have". They have never steered me wrong. We had our running holiday party there this week and the service and atmosphere were exceptional as always. Can't recommend enough read more

This part of Scottsdale just keeps getting better! This month this addition is is the perfect complement to this burgeoning neighborhood. Placed right next to the now defunct Rouge Bar, steps from The Hiltons new Bixby Hotel, and in an old Korean Liquor store shell is this town newest cool spot to drink expertly crafted beers, and a solid selection of wines . The place kind of looks sparse but that's by design of todays standards keeping us at our distance, but it does get busy, as its no longer a secret. The large bank of beer coolers have a huge variety of amazing beers including my favorites from Second Chance in San Diego! Create a 6 pack to go or order any to drink in house. Wines are similar they have a great selection of well chosen wine at just the right price. Grab a bottle and they will open it up for you, choose from a sturdy list of by the glass, or mix and match a few to go, most for 2 for TWENTY BUCKS! What!? The owners are real wine guys but have certainly not ignored us beer drinkers. Nary a bud light insight but that just goes to show they are all about quality over quantity. The crowd is mostly from the hood or on the way home from a shift of bartending or waiting tables. Everyone so far is pretty chill and friendly especially the owners Jonathon and Damien. Pro tip: Have the chef at work make you some carry out and pair it with the most relaxed wine list in The Valley or even some In and Out to pair with some hazy IPA's as food options here are still a little limited. They seem pretty relaxed about bringing in your own food. All I have to say about Rift is, all this good stuff, if you have been displaced by Papago's closing try this, and Welcome to my block! read more

So thankful to live just a short walk away from Rift! I've gone twice now and I've had a lovely experience both times. If you're lucky there might even be a food truck outside when you drop in! They have an excellent selection of drinks on tap and so many more to choose from in their fridge. My partner was so happy to see they had one of his favorite IPAs from one of our favorite breweries in San Diego! The atmosphere is nice and the staff are so friendly. I can't wait to spend more time here! read more

Leaving a shout out to Henry the hot dog guy!! Not sure if he works here but his hot dog stand is in the parking lot. I unfortunately got a flat tire and happened to pull over right next to the hot dog stand and Henry didn't even hesitate to offer to help and put my spare on for me! Great service!! read more

Fun spot to stop in for a beer or two. Plenty of seating around the bar, high top tables and at couches. My guy and I enjoy bringing our vegan take out from Green (across the street) here and having a drink while eating. Good team behind the bar that knows their beers and will recommend things if asked. No food made in the bar, but they seem to have food trucks parked here most of the time. read more

One of our new favorite local stops! Rift opened a few months ago and we're so glad they're here! The owners are absolutely amazing and so kind, they all try to remember everyone's names (as we are all neighbors), and are so outgoing. They've partnered with food trucks that park out front, and have an amazingly designed bar that is meant for people to talk to each other. We've been here quite a few times now and have always enjoyed the company. Would absolutely recommend coming here if you're in the area, I love that Damian and Troy are all about local everything. It's refreshing to have such a modern and open space to hangout and meet new people. When we were last here we were talking to Damian about new things coming, Rift is definitely a place you're going to want to keep an eye on (in the best way). read more

A very homey style bar with lots of TLC! We were staying near by so we decided to walk in, we greeted by one of the owners "Troy" Who was as helpful as can be. He made sure we felt comfortable and we're in an ambiance that was as appeasing as possible. The drinks were decently priced and the food truck outside was good too, we were also told food from anywhere could be brought in too. We stayed for a little but I definitely wish we stayed longer because it was a very laid back comfy bar that makes you feel right at home. read more

This is definitely my favorite bar. The owners and staff are wonderful humans and this place reflects the better side of phoenix. Stop in, grab a craft beer or some really good wine, listen to the best non top40 music you can find. The atmosphere is perfectly suited to those of us who spend long hours at work and just need a good place to relax and enjoy a couple cold ones. 10/5 stars love it here. read more

Good beer. Good vibes. Good people. We were the very first customers to be able to try the nitro tap they'd just installed!! I felt honored ‍ They have Drekkers "braaaains" which is like a thick beer smoothie, it was too good. Definitely became a quick favorite and I try to purchase one wherever I see them being sold now. Great spot to hangout and have some drinks. They have bottles of wine you get to go, drink there & cork later. There is a fridge that has all kinds of different beers and you can mix & match your own 4 or 6 pack OR grab one and drink it there! Then the bar area has a big variety on tap. The two owners are super friendly! Gives the place a great neighborhood vibe. No food there but you can bring in outside food & owners said they will start having food trucks. Couple TVs around the bar also if you want to watch sports. Super impressed & it's a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

Specialties

Rift Wine + Tap is south Scottsdale's locally owned taproom and wine bar specializing in craft beer and small production wines. Rift has a casual atmosphere with couches, community seating and a 25 seat bar. Rift also offers curbside and contactless pickup on 100's of craft beers and wines.

History

Established in 2020.

Rift is the brain child of Damien Kanser and Jonathan Coppins, two local wine geeks and podcasters. They developed the concept while camping and drinking craft beers and wine out of red solo cups. The duo decided spring of 2020 would be the best time to open and the rest is history. We are so happy to be considered the top local owned craft beer and wine shop in the neighborhood.

Ambiance (4/5): Relatively small for a brewery, but your typical chill, brewery vibes. They have some seats at the bar, some high tops, and a small patio. We sat out on the patio since the weather was nice. The seats out there are a bit uncomfortable, but we couldn't pass up on patio weather. They have free water in the corner which is always a plus so you don't have to wait in line. Service (5/5): The bartender working was super nice. It's always appreciated when servers go above and beyond in providing a great experience. He was friendly, efficient, and attentive. I couldn't have asked for more in my service experience at Goldwater. He exceeded my expectations. Food (N/A): I already ate previously so no food for me. There was a Mexican food truck in the parking lot. Drinks (4/5): I love trying local brews. At breweries, I typically get a flight so I can try out a variety of beers. This time though, I went with a pint. I couldn't say no to the Sour Rangers. I grew up watching the Power Rangers, so that was all the motivation I needed. An added bonus was that this beer is a sour. Not something you have every day, nor a style of beer that you come across very often. So I had to take advantage of the opportunity. And it was a good one. Goldwater is my type of place. I'd definitely return the next time I'm in the area!

Goldwater has indoor and outdoor seating options. It was a warm day so we sat inside at the hi-top. I didn't see food options available but it is located next to a few restaurants. My husband and friend enjoyed their beer flights and since I don't drink beer, I was happy to see a cooler with wine and other options such as white claw, etc. the beer was poured directly from the fermenter tank. The staff were very friendly and explained they had to open the wine bottle and make the first pour which was fine with me. We look forward to coming back in the near future.

Maybe they're paid, I'm not sure, but based on my experience I would not go back. The biggest issue was the service. We arrived and were told to sit anywhere we wanted. After sitting down, we waited about 20 minutes and no one ever came to our table. No greeting, no water, nothing. Eventually I had to walk up to the bar and ask what the procedure was. Do we order at the bar? Do you have table service? No one could give a clear answer. They just kept saying, "If you want, you can order here." That's not the point. If I sit down at a restaurant, I expect someone to come to the table and explain how things work or take our order. If the system is that you order at the bar, just say that clearly so people know what to do. The drinks were also very mediocre. Nothing special at all. Honestly, they tasted like something you could throw together at home with soda, alcohol, and ice. The surprising part is that the food was actually phenomenal. The kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. The dishes were delicious and probably the best part of the entire experience. But great food alone isn't enough to make me return somewhere with poor service and forgettable drinks. My recommendation is don't waste your time on a Sunday brunch. There are plenty of other brunch spots with good food and good service.

After parking, take the elevator all the way up to get to the rooftop. Ambiance (4/5): Pretty awesome. I love a good rooftop. Outrider has a good deal of comfortable seating which is always a plus in my book. It's an open air bar, so there's also some seating by the bar which is semi-covered. There's even a firepit of sorts, but only one. Would be cool if they had more. The best part though? The view from the rooftop. You can see the mountains in the background and old town Scottsdale. I imagine that the absolute best time to stop by is during a sunset. Service (4/5): Our waitress was friendly and pretty attentive throughout. She did a great job making us feel like we were right at home. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so I can't comment on their food. Drinks (4/5): Outrider has a nice selection of craft cocktails. While I was intrigued, I stuck to beer. Not a huge selection by any means, but there are a decent number of craft brews, including a handful I had never tried. The beers are fairly priced. If you're looking for a nice rooftop, Outrider is a great choice.

However, the service from our waitress was very disappointing. My husband, grandson, and I were dining, and since we had our grandson with us it was getting late. When she brought the bill, we tried to hand her our payment method, but she completely ignored us and walked away. It wasn't busy enough to excuse that, and she never acknowledged our request. Again, the food was great as usual, but the customer service tonight was very disappointing.

Instead of just saying sorry, he literally gave her the shirt off his back for free--which was such an unforgettable and thoughtful gesture. I've found that people--regulars and visitors--are friendly and easy to talk to. OTT is closing in this location and will be reopening in the old Back Door space directly behind it. The space will be larger, but I expect the cold drinks, great music and good vibes will transfer well.
