My fiance goes here every other Friday with his friend and has been talking this bar up so much and tonight he took me and my friend with him for our first time. Right off the back I love the place it looks exactly like your classic dive bar and even has pool, cheap drinks, jukebox and other games. But as soon as we walked up to the counter things just went downhill. When we all came up to the bar the male bartender came up to us and asked for ID's and we gave him our ID's and once he had checked them my friend ran to the bathroom. ( she already had to use the bathroom as soon as we got there but she looks young and gets problems with people thinking her ID is fake constantly so she waiting tell he had fully checked before going). Why'll she was in the bathroom we were waiting for two Carmel Apple shots and one gin ntonic. Once we got our shots (which are clear and smell like Carmel) we're waiting to take them and went to play pool. This entire time this bartender is staring us down and talking to security (we all sat and truly tried to think of what we did to cause the suspicious behavior but I can't think of anything besides my friend running to the bathroom so quick?) .Choosing to ignore this and just play pool we play a few rounds and take our shots. WATER and no I don't mean it's "not strong" HE GAVE US WATER WITH CARMEL. As soon as we took that shot my friend and me look at each other completely confused. At this point I don't feel welcome, I paid and TIPPED FOR WATER, I want to leave. But just to confirm that shot was bs I went up to the other bartender who had come in during one of our pool games and ordered another 2 Carmel apple shots. Bright red this shot is almost to the top of the glass and RED. We down this shot and immediately I KNOW HE GAVE US WATER. I regret more than anything not taking a picture of the first shot. I just held out hope that maybe it was clear cause it was apple flavored clear liquor but no water. As we left my fiance apologized to me and my friend saying " I'm so sorry I promise Friday is so much better BT is amazing and there so much nicer and I've never seen that guy before" he encouraged me to write this review because he was so sad my first time was so terrible after his so many good experiences. I truly hope this review is read and that this doesn't happen to anyone else again. Unfortunately because of this experience I won't be returning but my fiance hopes this does get responded too because he does truly like this place. Please tell your male bartender who worked Monday 1/12/26 around 8pm-9pm to not judge people and do better at his job the other bartender came in around 8:30ish it was some time after we got there and she was wonderful (and actually knew how to make a shot) read more

The service tonight was horrible I ordered a pizza from the conjoining pizza place on the 21st of February and the total came up to like 47 bucks I had no problem with that I'm completely okay with that I can accept it I enjoyed it I'll do it again but when my bank contacted me and said that hey Mr Morris did you make this charge at playa bar I have to be truthful and honest and say no I did not make the charge I did not accept it and those are the facts so I go in to speak with one of the bartenders and he is completely rude he tells me that he doesn't give a f*** about my money and that I can get the f*** out they don't need my business I literally live right down the street I just came in to ask a question like how do we settle this you know I paid full service and I was overcharged if I'm wrong for asking questions then I'm wrong but if I'm not then I'm not what do you think and like I said he was so rude did I match his disrespect with my rudeness no someone had to be a bigger man read more

You got to love stepping back in time, as you walk into the Playa. Nothing seems to have changed in 30 years since we came last! The atmosphere and people are the locals from the area. Definitely not a date night atmosphere but was fun to challenge people in pool and make some money. Drinks were very strong. read more

Place is trash. Unless you wanna take your chances with a bouncer who's drunk and asleep. The other one is super nice, he just plays pool and doesn't work. But the owner treats him like a slave and he takes it so I can't argue that one. read more

I stopped in here last Friday night with some pals on a whim, as we all like to explore dive bars... It's hard to believe this exists in South Scottsdale - this place is strait out of South Phoenix! We are three "well-dressed" white guys and they were looking at us like we were General George Custer. It took the bartender awhile to even acknowledge us, and when she did charged us double the posted price for a Corona. We were obviously not welcome in here! We downed our beers and hit the bricks before the stabbings began. I like other South Scottsdale dives, and Indians too... but this place definitely didn't like us!
