I would skip the stuffed scallops and dive into the paella marinera. The paella marinera could be for 2 servings (at least what we ordered was for me and my SO). The shellfish had sand and probably had half a baby lobster. So the food was good I just wish there was more seafood and clean seafood. We didn't enjoy the coffee rincón style unless you like your coffee with liquor and cream- not for me but at least I tried it. What I enjoyed the most was the orange sorbet and cappuccino. The RinconDe España was always a great place to visit. The food was amazing and never had one bad dish each time we went .The service was amazing and very attentive but not in a bad way .You never knew they were there but if you needed them you just looked up and they would come over. So very polite as well.The ambiance was very pleasant and it could also be very romantic if you wanted it to be. I recently came here with my girlfriend and two other couples, to celebrate someone's birthday. This is a very nice place. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. Once we were all seated, we started out ordering some drinks. I really enjoyed the red sangria. That seemed to be a big hit for the table; but other lived their mixed drinks they ordered. For our meals, we ordered the paella and filet mignon, and decided to split them both. The paella was excellent. The seafood was very fresh of course and everything just blended together great. The filet mignon steak was pretty tasty as well. They provide you with plenty of sides with your meals, so the food portions are quite large when you factor this in. We had some food left over that we took home to enjoy the next day. To end the night there, we tried the lemon sherbert dessert, and this was a nice refreshing choice. Eight out of ten messages I receive through Yelp are unpleasant. How can you like that place? You must be out of your mind! How could you NOT like this place? A message I received the other day did nothing to change this reality. I was chatting with my son about where to go on our next birding adventure and more importantly, where to eat. We decided to go to the Ocean Terminal in Bayonne and then Rincon de Espana for dinner. In a truly weird coincidence, my phone alerted me to an incoming email. Great, another Yelp message. What now? How can you like Rincon de Espana, the Yelper inquired. You like frozen vegetables and reconstituted potatoes? Go to Newark and learn what real food tastes like. So we went to Rincon anyway. A friendly welcome, a half pitcher of white sangria and some chorizo got things off to a nice start. My son had the special two pound sirloin steak-medium rare. I had the veal in almond sauce. Yellow rice. Spanish potatoes. Everything was delicious. The steak was grilled to order, the veal was tender and potatoes were crisp. We asked for no veggies but they were brought anyway. Another EXCELLENT dinner / birthday celebration at Rincon de Espana! I just don't get the negative reviews. Looks at this food!! Consistently excellent for 20+ years (started going with my husband's family when we were just dating). The chorizo appetizer and escargot were excellent as always. I love the pork with almonds other of our party of 8 ordered the steak, lobster, paella. Everyone was raving about the deliciousness and huge portions. Oh - and the Sangria is the best you'll ever have. Not too sweet, lots of fruit. We order the white as personal preference. They make red too. Servers have been there for years. Celebrated mine & a friends birthday here in a large group. Everyone ordered something different. The soup was very good. I had the paella marinera. It was tasty but the rice & lobster were very dry. I tried others dishes--shrimp in green sauce, clams creole, stuffed cod, shrimp in wine sauce & the stuffed mushrooms. All delicious & very flavorful. I would go back but definitely try something different. Sangria both red & white were VERY good. Waiter gave us a complimentary crab salad which was delicious & also both birthday girls received a complimentary flan with candle. When I first visited this restaurant I was impressed with the food (garlic chicken and everything with rincon sauce). My fiance has been going here for over 25 years and always would rave about it. This is our go to restaurant to go out for family occasions, celebrations etc. Sadly, the past two times we have been extremely disappointed. Service was poor and the food cold and tasteless. The service is always on a rushed side, but I can live with it when food is amazing. I am not sure I want to give Rincon another shot since two times in a row is more than enough times to be disappointed. Overall I hope that they were just having rough couple of months and things will go back to normal. P'S. It is time to upgrade the restaurant. Decor is pretty depressing. read more

Rincon de Espana has been in Bayonne for many, many years and by the look of it in side, nothing has changed. With that said, Gordon Ramsey might need to intervene and help spruce the place up a bit all the way down to the waiter's uniforms. I've been to Spaniard restaurants in the Ironbound and all around NJ and this one seems to be the most dated decor of them all. Once you come in, you are seated and order your food, the meal begins right away. They'll bring you out your beverage, bread, then soup even if you didn't order soup. Don't worry, it's included in your meal. I believe they also bring out home made chips. Awesome rating for the soup and chips. I've ordered the ribs and consistently ordered the Sirloin Steak. The ribs get a bad rating from me because I think I had some ribs that were cooked prior to me ordering them, so they were tough and dry. The rib is usually what I order for my wife and son. Most of the time I call in the order and pick it up. The steak gets a good rating due to the shear value you get for the size. For $20, you get a huge 20oz sirloin and some homemade chips. That steak will feed my wife and kid for two meals. Not too shabby. As for the taste, you might want to order it Medium/Medium Rare. It is a sirloin, so it will be lean. read more

Then I had the fish delicious The paella amazing. Sangria was good nothing crazy. Oh I forget to mention that the portions are huge definitely go here if you want to take some lunch for the next day. If this is "the best Spanish food" you've ever had- you need to get out more! The stuff is canned (vegetables) Frozen (fish) overcooked and under seasoned. Last night was the last straw-I've given this place every opportunity to redeem itself: Stuffed shrimp served to me was staright out RANCID! Other people sitting nearby commented on the STINK.. Did I have to bring it to the servers attention? That shouldn't have made it out of the kitchen. Yet, server argued with me "that's what shrimp smells like". REALLY?? Have been coming here for the past 30 years. With the Bayonne Bridge construction and random closures, don't get here as much as we used to. At one time, this place was excellent, plentiful, great food, at reasonable prices. Last night may have been the last time we go back. Walked in at 845pm on Saturday night. One large table finishing up dinner and in various states of leaving. Another table of 8 celebrating a birthday, and us. Hmmm. Why? Service, as always fast. Sangria-very good. Bread, soup (although server asking if we wanted "more" as scooping was strange-especially since he put so little in bowl that you couldn't have scooped without tipping bowl). Soup, good, a vegetable lentil, a bit watery but flavorful. Hubby and I both ordered Mariscada en Salsa Verde (seafood in green sauce). Waiter asked did we want vegetables. Asked what it was-a mix of carrots, string beans and peas-of course. Food arrives. Mine is overflowing with Mussels. Not just any mussels, but barnacle covered, seaweed containing, sandy mussels. I had minimal green sauce, so little I couldn't scoop it from the pot to add over my rice. On the plus side my Lobster was well cooked and clams plentiful. Shrimp was a joke, looked like salad sized shrimp, many still containing their shells. I had a piece of 1 mushy scallop. The rice tasted like it was a boxed Zatarain preparation. Potato "chips" very thick, soggy, none had a crisp. "Vegetables" were a canned DelMonte mixed vegetables. Disappointed, disappointed, disappointed. Decided on Flan as a dessert. While tasty, feel it also was a Jetro restaurant pack pre-made item as well. Very disappointed. Seems like no care to the preparation. Not sure we will return. I had stuffed lobster tails with crabmeat, they were cooked to perfection, the crabmeat stuffing...... Our server recommended 4 family style dishes for our party of five and each dish was excellent. While I haven't sampled it myself, I hear the lobster is magnificent! My BF had the creole clams and he loved it. They give you fresh bread, and soup. With your meal they bring rice and fresh steamed veggies plus fried potatoes (home made style). Have you ever had food so good, you wished you had an additional stomach so you could keep eating it past the point of fullness? That's Rincon. I went here for a date night with my boyfriend a couple weeks ago. If you love large portions at great prices and lots of options, this is definitely your place. We shared a pitcher of the red wine Sangria--very, very good, and a great price as well. For an appetizer we shared the stuffed mushrooms--they came out quickly, were hot, and smelled great. Unfortunately upon tasting one I instantly realized there was crab inside, and I was disappointed: I don't eat seafood and I wish the menu had specified that the mushrooms were stuffed with crab, or else we wouldn't have ordered them. This is where Rincon loses the star from me--they need to list these details, in case someone is allergic to seafood and, like me, takes a bite of the mushroom not expecting the crab. The other negative contributing to the star loss is I wish there were more appetizer options for the non-seafood eaters. There is only one (chorizo). However, my boyfriend happily ate my share of the mushrooms and LOVED them. He even used a slice of bread to mop of the leftover broth. Along with the free bread you are also given a large bowl of COMPLIMENTARY vegetable-garlic-meat soup, which is delicious. For entrees, I got ribs in brown sauce and my boyfriend got the garlic chicken. All I can say is WOW. Mine were probably the best ribs I ever had and I tried some of my boyfriends chicken, which was to die for as well. Lots of visibly FRESH chopped garlic throughout. My ribs were HUGE, tender, and flavored just right. I was also given ten, so I had a few to take home for lunch the next day. We were served three sides, family style, to our table--a heaping platter of Spanish rice, a platter of mixed seasoned veggies, and roasted potatoes. All were fantastic. We shared a flan for dessert, which was also very good. No complaints at all. With an appetizer, a pitcher of sangria, two entrees, and one dessert, the bill was still relatively low. The service was fairly attentive, but seemed to drop off a bit once the food courses started coming out. We were left to refill our own wine glasses & had to flag someone down to get another basket of bread. This definitely did not ruin our experience, and like I said, we were a large group, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. This may sound strange, but the bread was really good. It come out nice & hot. Our group ordered the fried calamari and garlic shrimp as starters. I didn't have any, but everyone said that it was very good. My husband especially liked the calamari. For my entree I had the Rincon Chicken. The chicken was lightly breaded and served in a very light tomato based sauce. It was very good and came with veggies, brown rice & fried potato chips on the side. The portion was tremendous and could've easily served 2-3 people. I enjoyed my meal very much. Great service with a smile, delicious sangria, and reasonable prices makes this one of the restaurants in good ole Bayonne that has lasted a lifetime.
