My husband and I drove 30 minutes intending to go to another restaurant in Hoboken with a similar name but mistakenly came to this establishment. However we soon realized how lucky we were to come here instead. I ordered the Lobster Paella and it was so fresh and delicious .. my husband ordered the steak and he thoroughly enjoyed his steak and mashed potatoes. We also ordered a pitcher of mango sangria which was tasty with a nice kick to it! We ended up ordering chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert which we also truly enjoyed. Really amazing food and service. The octopus was cooked to perfection which seems to be hard to do in most places that serve octopus. The avocado salad with tuna was good too, the dressing was a little sweet for my taste but the tuna was cooked to perfection and the avocados were delish. The patatas bravas were just ok but everything else looked *chefs kiss*. The portions were huge so I don't know if I'd call this a tapas place but I'll definitely be back to try out more of the menu. I'm a big fan of this place, long overdue for a review here as I've been 3 plus times now. Most recently, we went on a Valentine's Day dinner, and that in and of itself can be a massive headache around Hoboken/NYC. No overpriced prefixe menu which I always appreciate. Ambience is great, the decor is old school and classy, dark wood, white tablecloths, low lit etc. The star of the show here however is the food, the sirloin tips are phenomenal I get them every single time I'm there and they never disappoint. House tempranillo is fantastic and we split the paella and a goat cheese salad, every thing was delicious and came out to under $200 for everything with tip. Prior two visits we were always treated with some complementary shots at the end as well which is always a super welcoming touch. The scallops were so good wrapped in bacon and that raspberry almond sauce took it to another level would even put that sauce on dessert that's how perfect it was. the octopus was really good. Only feedback is to cut off the fact because it makes the dish a little slimy. The patatas bravas were really good, but they didn't have a spicy kick like these potatoes should be. The severance was nice and gave good recommendations, but I wish she was more attentive. There was a table that was sat served and paid all in the time that we were there and they were getting way more attention than us when there were only two tables that were being serviced, us being one of them. The decor : absolutely amazing , you feel like you're certainly in Spain .. beautiful decor .. The drinks : we had Mojitos and Mango Sangria , that was the most refreshing drink I've had in a long time . The food : monkfish was cooked to perfection and the sauce was amazing . I had been to Lola's for dinner about 10 years ago and had not been back since, except once for drinks. I had found my initial visit just mediocre, so I was not moved to return. However, my friends were craving tapas and had enjoyed their Lola's meals more recently, so I decided to give it another chance. The restaurant was spacious and decked out with Spanish-influenced décor. The fun and welcoming vibe was also felt from our gracious server. For instance, his recommendation on the Red Sangria was spot-on, as it had just the perfect hint of sweetness. Sadly, that was where the rest of the experience fell off for me. I ordered the Grilled Prawns, of which I was told the item included 3 large, head-on shrimp. While the waiter thought he was warning me about the crusty skulls, I declared that I actually loved drinking the juices from the heads. He agreed that was the best part of the giant shrimp, and I sat giddily awaiting my plate. When it arrived, I was immediately drawn to its garlic-heavy aroma. However, when I cut a piece off from one of the shellfish, I was crestfallen to discover that the prawns had been overcooked, leaving them chewy, dry, and without head juice. As much as I loved the marinade, I could not get past how overdone they were. I had also ordered a side of vegetables, as I had not thought the 3 prawns would have been enough. The side included carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and A LOT of string beans. In fact, there were too many beans for my liking, so I just ate around them. I did appreciate that the vegetables had been cooked in that same aromatic garlic sauce, though. The food reviews were mixed around the table, which I felt validated my feelings of dissatisfaction. I tried the ham croquettes, shrimp and garlic and the Spanish potatoes. All were very good. Entree had the "volcano" which came with 4 filet medallions. Very good and nice presentation. We were seated indoors at our request; however the table was near the open doors so we had the best of both worlds. There was a lovely breeze coming in to cool us. We started with a glass of Ramon Bilbao rioja wine. It was smooth and velvety. Delicious! Our order consisted of avocado stuffed with lobster and shrimp, broccoli rabe with sautéed garlic and garlic shrimp. Everything was wonderful. The winner by far was the shrimp dish. It was perfect. The shrimp were tender with a lovely sauce that had a bite at the back of the throat. Completely satisfying! Our servers were very attentive; 4 gentlemen who appeared as needed to refill water, answer questions or remove empty plates. For dessert, we split the carrot cake. You can also get a mini pitcher which yields about 4 glasses. The sangria contains apples and oranges which they soak in liquor and they are really strong! I feel like eating one of the apples is comparable to taking a shot!! Spinach and ham croquets. They are delicious! You get six to an order and can mix both flavors (3 of each kind) of just get 6 of one type. Mariscada with garlic sauce. Comes with clams mussels shrimp scallops. The sauce is to die for. Here is everything we had: Chicken wings - these were smothered in some kind of sauce. It tasted like AYCE wings that you'd get from a Hoboken bar. Not really sure what we were thinking when we decided to order this. Lomo embuchado - so we didn't know what this was and they told us it was thinly sliced pork. But I just Googled it and it's actually dry-cured pork loin. What we got was a thin, and dry piece of salty pork. Not exactly the same as dry-cured. Croquetas - pretty basic. These are definitely refried again and again, if they can't sell them all Meatballs - salty and dry Seafood salad - we were told that this was ceviche but in actuality, it was just boiled shrimp and squid, covered in an old salsa Shrimp ajillo - this was the only thing that was actually not bad. But it's not enough to make me want to come back Drinks were no better. I had a cosmo and BF had a mojito and both were straight sugar. Maybe the regular, non-happy hour hour menu is better? We have heard great comments about this restaurant so we were definitely shocked by the service we received this past weekend. We never really had one specific waiter; at least 3-4 of them came to our table throughout our stay. It was a little unorganized to say the least. The tables are also very close to each other. Our reservation was for 1pm and we did not get our food until 2:22pm. The lobster tails and steak were both overcooked (my medium steak was more like medium well), and the steak was almost cold. It took so long for us to get our food that I was expecting it to at least be hot. It's a shame because the steak tasted really good, it would've been even better if it wasn't cold. We had croquettes which we're okay, chorizo in wine which was also just okay and the lamb chops with rosemary which was the best dish with sangria. The sangria could have been a little fruitier but was okay. I felt like every dish just missed the mark is some way or was lacking flavor. The bread at the beginning of the meal was quite good.
