I'm a big fan of sours and as such I went to Dionysus for a long time but they seems to be drifting away from the sours and haven't really had anything new recently. I noticed this place right next door so I thought I'd give it a quick try. The staff were very friendly and greeted me upon entry. They even had a dog walking around wanting pets, they are pet friendly so I gave her a little love. They have a great selection of sours and other beers in the coolers. They aren't the cheapest but they are bringing them in from other great local places so expect $8-9 a can if you want to the hit coolers. They have a great selection on tap as well so sit down and enjoy some great company and great drinks. read more

This place is a GEM! We walked by on our way to a brewery next door and decided to stop in for a drink on our way back to the car. The beer gods were calling me into this place! I'm so glad we stopped in. The moment we walked in we were greeted by a few regulars who were drinking beers and having a great time. They had quite a few options of beers on tap but they also had a ton of cans! There's a beverage for everyone! They even had some beers from Sacramento which made my heart happy. The staff was super friendly and helpful. She let us taste a few beers before we pulled the trigger. The space is small but very warm and welcoming. TO-GO: There's lots and LOTS of options. This is tucked in the industrial area located in the self proclaimed beer district. First timers it takes a second to figure out. They have 6 cold cases of beer to go. So many options, hard kombcha, ciders, and all sorts of ales, pils, and so much more. It took me a while to decide which ones I wanted. All are individually priced starting at 3.50. I was told about this place so it was a Friday night so we headed over to check it out. It's two doors away from a brewery. It has a bar area and inside seating, and a roll up door. They have many different types of beer for sale in the refrigerators that surrounding the far wall near the bar. The beers on tap are from various locations from local to coastal and other locations. We placed an order they were kind and cleaned off a table for us very quickly and we were seated. The place is layed back and pet friendly, because there was a couple of dogs on leashes there. They even gave a sample round while we were there, which was very cool and I enjoyed that. They did have a food truck parked outside also. A nice touch for those wanting to eat while enjoying a beer. So just a nice place to go and try something different. Glad we took a little time to stop in. read more

Finally a drinking establishment that I feel at home in. This is like Imbibe but without the wine, booze and crappy music. It is straight up beer, sports on the TV and good music. The whole point of this place is to provide beer that you can get anywhere else in town. There is the exception of a Stone Brewing beer or something similar but I don't mind those when over 90% is non local. The owners travel out of town once a week to bring in beer from all around California and this awesome because I don't have to make the trek. The best part is that they keep the prices very reasonable. They bring in cans, kegs and bottles so there is something for everyone. They also usually have some sort of food vendor outside. This week was Smittys BBQ and the pulled pork was on point to say the least. Beer is available for sitting in or to go so there is no reason to stop by and pick up a beer. I went today (5/30/2020) and i was very shocked by the lack of concern by the employees and customers. Social distancing was not at all implemented, no signs at all, no one was wearing a mask, employees and customers alike and there were not one but two children sitting AT the bar. I walked in and walked right back out. It's times like these when you really realize what companies are thinking of the safety of their customers and which ones are not. The servers are friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the different kind of beers they sell. There's 8 taps plus big selection of bottles and cans of beer. I completely stumbled upon this place one day we decided to go brewery hoping. BBC is located next to Dyonosis brewing. BBC is not a brewery. They mainly sell beers from micro brewerIes throughout California. And when I say they have beers from different breweries I mean it. The selection at BBC is incredible. You can really tell that those that go out and look for the beers know what they are doing. We sat down grabbed a few beers and chit chatted with the lady who seemed to be the owner. She was friendly and very attentive. We spoke about soccer and how they get their beer stock. The whole concept here is you show up find a beer you like and buy it. You can either take it home and drink or take a sit get a glass and have your beer there! It's genius idk how no one else has done this. It's unassuming - a moderately sized suite location in an industrial park area of the Bakersfield brewery district. Once inside, there are a smattering of tables and a bar. If it's hot, expect the industrial blower and slightly warmer temps, but still tolerable even in Bakersfield heat. If you need entertainment with your beer, they have dart boards, shuffleboard, and board games (all free). They pour a handful of beers on draft, and try to have at least one of each major style available. The majority of the beers are in the wall coolers, and represent what the owners have picked up on their "beer days". They literally drive to nearby brewers and bring back tasty bottle options that wouldn't otherwise be available through normal distribution channels (no need to ask where they're going next - they keep a sign on the wall listing what region they just visited and where they're heading next). With that in mind, you'll find plenty of unique options from SoCal brewers, and high turnover and variety. Styles are well represented, from ciders and sours to stouts, IPAs, and lagers. It's a beer bar with non-Bakersfield beer on tap. 3 stars because there's nothing that stands out. If you're in the area, go to Dionysus instead. It's 2 doors down, with much better beer. I'm writing this review as someone from Sacramento. When I visited BBC in November, 3/8 beers were from Sacramento. And not the best beers our city has to offer. I guess if you're from Bakersfield, this bar would expose you to beers, and breweries that you may have never seen or heard of before. The beer may seem exotic. But from someone with a bit of perspective, this beer is as exotic as an Oildale accent. The design is typical for a beer bar. Black counter. High top chairs. There are also a few randomly placed low top tables throughout the venue. There are games, including rock'em sockem robots, dominoes, and darts. When I visited, there was even a table saw on display (I think they were under construction?). It was early on the day before thanksgiving, but the place still had a good vibe. People were chatting. The bartender was smiling. To be honest we didn't even buy a beer here. We just dropped in and left after just a few minutes. read more

Great place. I come in as often as I can (about once a month). The owners are awesome, very nice. The beer selection is is always great. They travel out of town every Monday, and Tuesday always have new beers you can't get anywhere else. I love being able to try new beers every time I go in. About 10 beers on tap and a large glass door fridge with another two dozen or so beers in cans and bottles you can take home or open and drink there. Very dog friendly. Owners and staff really seem to love dogs. Every Monday they post videos on there instagram of the breweries they are bringing beer back from. read more
