Best papusa's in town! The portion of filling inside is generous. My favorite is the mixed one with pork, beans and loroco. I can eat them everyday. I love this place, but I had to -1 star because they never give me enough sauce or pickled cabbage even when I ask for extra. I like to eat my papusa with a lot of sauce and cabbage for every bite but the cashier never gives it to me. I don't understand why he is so stingy because cabbage is 50 cents a whole head and I sure the sauce didn't cost much to make either. Btw, they don't ever seem busy either. So why be stingy over sauce and cabbage? Its like when you get french fries and a burger but they only give you two packets of ketchup... In what is a pretty underwhelming food scene in Vallejo, Rinconcito Salvadoreno is the rare bright spot (aside from a few new spots I have yet to try). I've been a few times and the carne guisada is what I always get. The juicy, tender, flavorful beef stewed with potatoes that were soft to the tooth but not mushy always hits the spot. And the flavor of the stew is incredible and permeates the meat very well without tasting too salty. Served with a side of flavorful beans and rice, as well as a side salad and tortillas, the flavors of each all complement each other very well. Not only a standout in the Vallejo food scene, I'm sure this place could hold its own with other Salvadoran restaurants elsewhere. read more

The restaurant is small (6 tables of 4) with a simple yet tasteful decor. One of the first things I noticed is how organized things are behind the counter. It is also very clean inside (floors, tables, etc). The young man who waited on us was soft spoken, polite and very helpful. The homemade salsa is amazing! Great flavor and slightly spicy. I wasn't very hungry, so I decided to try a beef taco. The beef was tender and seasoned nicely. The portion of meat on the taco was generous and one filled me up. My husband tried a few chicken and cheese papusas. They were larger than he expected. He said they tasted really good and he said he can tell they were freshly made. Still 4 stars just because it takes so long to get your food. I tried the Salvadoran-style enchilada which is similar to a Mexican sope except better because it has the marinaded cabbage and sliced boiled eggs on top. The asada is so flavorful it really sends it over the top. I also tried the pasteles which is similar to an empanada, its filled with some flavorful ground beef and I think potatoes were mixed in too. So flipping good. A lot of there items are sold separately for about $4 each included tacos. They do sell combos for about $11 or $12. Don't let the outside (or inside) of the restaurant fool you...the food here is excellent and I would love to give them 5 stars but it takes forever to get your order. We were there for over 30 minutes...probably more like 45 minutes before we got our food. Normally we would have left but we were really looking forward to their pupusas. Even when you call your order in it takes incredibly long. I do highly recommend their food though. read more

I called ahead of time and placed an order on the phone, to go. As I was waiting in line, another customer came in a good 6 minutes after me. The girl at the counter was helping another customer ahead of me. The lady who came in after me said to the girl in spanish "I'm here to pick up my order". There wasnt even a "I'm sorry let me help her and I'll be right with you, sorry for the wait" nothing. The food: lacked in flavor. Too much masa in the pupusas I had. But at least they weren't overly greasy. The sauce for the cabbage was bland. The platanos were cut into big chunks, I prefer them a bit smaller. I wont be back here. Not worth the money or time. If you want papusas this is the place.They were served hot and are very tasty. I tried three kinds on this trip. The jalapeño, chicken, and bean. All of them were good but my favorite had to be the chicken one. Don't forget to put the cabbage salad and chili sauce on them for the full effect of deliciousness. Mannnnnn, do I love a good pupusa. Here in Vallejo, I think there's actually a few spots where you can get them. Trouble is, I haven't gotten around to writing any reviews on em. Well, that changed today with this review on Rinconcito Salvadoreno. For the uneducated, a pupusa is a Salvadoran dish that is AWESOME (but also a thick corn tortilla, at it's very basic.) There is usually filling, like cheese, pork, beans, or lorocco (a tasty flower.) Or a combination of said ingredients. Very simple stuff really, but when executed properly, the result is oh so savory. RS definitely hits the savory mark with their pupusas. Headed there for the first time a few weeks ago. This was previously the 2nd Baldo's in Vallejo. 1) I feel like Vallejo didn't need another Baldo's and 2) This is a tricky location. More on that later. At any rate, I was able to be order quite quickly and have my food within just a couple of minutes. I was greeted by 4 pretty large sized pupusas, salsa roja, and a WHOLE JAR OF CURTIDO. You KNOW your boy wasn't mad about that. I love pretty much anything pickled. The pupusas were awesome. Still very warm, gooey, and savory. This is pretty much comfort food and I love it. The mouth, it's watering, just typing this up. Service itself was courteous and fast. Felt like I got my food in a matter of moments. The decor is... well, there's not really much of it, but I suppose that's neither here nor there. I like this place a lot, but I do have a concern and that has to do with the location. Other restaurants have opened in this location and have not fared well. I believe it's the location. It's somewhat difficult to get to and the street to get to it only has one way traffic. This is near the plaza that has Food Maxx, but for whatever reason, the parking lot to the plaza and for the restaurant are NOT CONNECTED. That is to say, you'd need to drive over some curbs and a lawn drive from Food Maxx to RS (which, needless to say, would be illegal.) This is a major issue I think. I want this place to thrive, but its location makes me a bit fearful. All in all though, this is a very tasty spot for pupusas. I love that it's quite near my house. I will definitely be back and I hope that it sticks around for a long time. read more

Oh my goodness, I have been craving some pupusas, and this place hit the spot! The hubs and I tried a slew of different dishes, and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch! All were fantastic. First let me say, the employees gave great explanations and recommendations. We ended up going tapas style and tried tamales, enchiladas, nuegados, chilata, tamarindo, and of course: pupusas! The Salvadoran enchilada is so unique: a mixture of tortilla, meat, coleslaw, cheese, hardboiled egg, tomato, and salsa. It was a splendid combination. Another favorite, our elote (corn) tamale, was fluffy and just a bit sweet, served with sour cream and a slice of queso. The award winner was the nuegados: fried yucca soaked in honey with a side of bananas and chilata. The chilata was a strange consistency (it appears to be made out of cornmeal;) That's the one item I could do without. I have a feeling this will be my go-to meal stop when in the area! I always call in my order and every time I arrive which is 15-20 minutes after my phone call I usually still have to wait for them to finish my order. I've had many pupusas in my life from restaurants, swapmeet stands, and stands on the streets. These are right up there with the best of them. Best of all they were delivered hot and fresh to my doorstep. I got 4 different ones, but the most surprising was the jalapeno and cheese. I almost didn't order it because I thought it was going to be too spicy. It was mild with the delicious flavor of jalapenos still present. The curtido was also tasty. By far the best Salvadorian restaurant I've been too. We ordered Pupusas de Jalapeño and they were really delicious and spicy ! I highly recommend to try them if you like spicy food! Overheard a customer complaining of waiting for a take out order 30+ minutes in restaurant on top of the 40 minute eta of their phone order.
