If you are looking for tapas this is the place to go. We have been coming here for years and have always been happy with the food, drinks, and service. The restaurant is a small corner location and in the summer there is a few additional outside tables. They don't have a parking lot it is street parking but we have never had any issues finding parking. My favorite things here are the piquillos (filled roasted peppers), Vieras (scallops), and the pollo (chicken) with a glass of wine. As usual, Rincón 38 served up a splendid evening thanks to the delicious food, wonderful service from Fernando, and delightful environment. We got some of our reliable favorites--piquillos, the queso frito, and the coliflor. As usual, the flavors and plating were exquisite. I always appreciate the balance of flavors and textures. Salty, savory, sweet, and piquant meet tender, creamy, and crispy. It is truly always a delight for all the senses. My birthday treat was the créma catalana, the Catalan answer to crème brûlée: sweet custard sits under a crunchy sugar crust and is topped with a lovely cinnamon-flavored apple concoction. We also tried a relatively new addition to the dessert menu--the Spanish coffee flan. With just the right amount of sweetness, this flan was sturdy and melts in your mouth. I had this place on my list for some time. Wish I would have come sooner. It was excellent! We had a reservation and arrived in time but all tables were still occupied so we sat at the bar instead of waiting a few minutes. The place is not very big so it's quite cozy for seating. Our server was great in helping us through the menu. It's all tapa small plates so knowing which were the favs, how many typically are ordered person, etc was helpful. I won't remember the names of the 4 plates we chose but they were all excellent. One had asparagus and mushrooms, one was kabobs, one was prawns, and one was fish. The textures and flavors worked excellently for each plate. Four plates for the two of us was a good amount. We finished with a crème brûlée type dessert which was light and delicious. This place is absolutely amazing! I used to come here a few years ago pretty regularly and for some reason just spaced on coming back. We actually had a reservation to another place and we're driving there and realized we both wanted Rincon more. It was a good choice. We had the cauliflower which were perfectly cooked with delicious sauces the rack of lamb, which was insanely flavorful and also really well cooked and the paella which wouldn't you know it was super flavorful and really well cooked lol. The sangria was a great compliment, and our server was charming fast and a pleasure to have at our table. Overall, this is the type of place that you should stop into for a date night or just a nice treat for yourself. Most tapas bars in Spain are rather plain. This is a high end tapas bar where the food is made with very expensive ingredients and more than a little skill. Even more so was the overall ambience. The vibe is Old World Courtesy. The staff knows exactly how to provide great service without acting like long lost friends. My wife and I enjoyed two tapas and one paella. Patatas Bravas - baby potatoes, cinfit asparagus, spanish chorizo, roasted atichokes, pimento, sherry wine drizzled with saffron aioli. I could not put my far down when eating this dish. The sherry wine drizzle with saffron aioli explodes in your mouth after each bite. Leaving the veggies and chorizo sauced with deliciousness. Coliflor - cripsy fried saffron poached cauliflower tossed with citron pepper, parsley oil and aioli. One who is not a huge fan of cauliflower, each floret melted in your mouth like butter. Today, we visited Ricon 38 (authentic Spanish food) in South Minneapolis. The three of us shared Coliflor (crispy cauliflower), Jaiba (crab cakes), and Toledo (mixture of Brussel sprouts and mushrooms). They were all phenomenal! I wanted more!! For our meals, I had the Pollo (never had better tasting chix). My hubby had Paella Sevillana (rice, beef, chix, pork and sausage with peppers). He enjoyed his meal. But, he wasn't crazy about the rice! I loved the rice! My son had Carne Brava (tenderloin, mushrooms etc). I recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or just a nice meal. My husband and I came here for dinner on a Thursday night and had a delightful time. We made a reservation in advance, which I definitely recommend given how small the place is. The waitstaff were super attentive and answered all our questions about the menu items. We asked how many dishes they recommended for two people, and they said 4-5. Maybe we were just extra hungry, but we ended up getting 6 dishes and dessert, and that felt like a good amount of food. My rating of the dishes: Amazing: Vieras, Albondigas, Campestre, Borrego, Flan Good: Datiles, Tres Leches Cake Meh: CalamarI, Churros There's a substantial wine list, but almost nothing in the way of cocktails. Definitely a five star restaurant. Any stars below four, ignore. The plating, service and flavor profiles are all deserving of the prices. Service: The service was very on par with a tapas style restaurant, we were allowed time to finish a couple plates with time in between ordering further plates. We hardly knew the waiter was there, even though he was attentive the whole time, quietly caring for our needs, including filling our glasses with the bottle of wine we purchased. Tapas: Every tapas we tried was worth every bite, of course we had our favorites. We will definitely be ordering again the following: Pipirrana, Datiles, Paella Sevillana. Dessert: The Crema Catalana was superb. Very reminiscent of Creme Brûlée, but even creamier. This dessert is a must. Wine: We purchased a bottle of the Volver, which is a Tempranillo grape varietal. It had a nice body, slightly dry but paired nicely with every dish. Tip: Make reservations a couple days ahead of time, especially if your dinner party is five or more. The food was spaced out well coming out 2 dishes out a time. We did have an incident with a large piece of hair in the spinach under/in a scallop. They brought us a new one right away that was hot and the best part of the meal. Every dish was beautiful plated but lacked an ooph of flavor and umami. We tried a lot of the heavy hitter plates recommended on yelp totaling $110 for 2 people with no drinks. For a tapas restaurant this isn't too bad but I did come in with high expectations as far as flavor profiles and texture combinations. We went on a Thursday night and were able to talk with a few others in the restaurant otherwise it might a be a bit loud. Our server was very friendly, and super helpful with recommendations and information about each dish. This is a tapas place, but the dishes are for the most part decent sized. However, you definitely want to order several just so you can share them and try many options. We had the Campestre, a tasty salad to start out with, then Jaiba with a sauce which we had to get bread to finish (it was SO good!). A special with shrimp was a little skimpy, with only a two (albeit large) shrimp, and not the tastiest choice, but you can't get everything prefect.
