Just got back. I can't say too much about this trip that hasn't been said better already so I'll keep it brief with the following tips: 1. You do not need some fancy tour operator- just book your tickets through their excellent website which can include transportation to and from your hotel or just take any taxi there yourself after booking tickets. 2. If you are fat, old, slow, handicapped or have difficulty on stairs or navigating rough terrain this is not for you. The tour is a real work out with a real capacity for slip and fall injury. You have been warned. 3. Just wear your swimsuit there and have it on when you show up - it makes it easier. 4. When they offer you a walking stick, take it. 5. Don't hesitate just do it- it is about a three hour experience including the lunch and it's pretty unique and a lot of fun especially incorporating the swimming parts. The whole place is clean and organized with excellent English speaking guides. 6. Don't waste too much time posing for photos- The cost was a rip off plus they can only send them to you digitally anyway- This method is ALWAYS unreliable and seems to have formatting issues. 7. This place is amazing if your in the area I would 1000% go you won't be disappointed I went around 4:30 at night got done everything by 11:00pm so I didn't have e to wait an any lines at all except the zip lining witch was packed but even that was totally worth it the buffet was just as good the staff was great I mean the only complain I can think of is I wish the offered videos of your experience instead of just photos hopefully that's something they will work on but other then this is really that good read more

This excursion exceed all of our expectations! We chose the Rio Secreto plus and it was a an amazing adventure with a full day of various activities and one of the most beautiful caves we've seen. Our teens were impressed and engaged, and it was a good challenge for those of us in our 50s too. Our guide, Mitch was one of the best guides we've ever had. He was knowledgeable and sincere and super helpful. We started the tour walking through a stunning dry cave with magnificent formations. We saw a deer and the Mot Mot bird and Mitch relayed their cultural and biological context. He helped me in a few places as I was less steady on the slippery rocks. We repelled down into a dry cenote hole which was thrilling. Mitch and the other guide helped me to overcome my fear and it was not hard for anyone in our group. Then we road bikes for a a bit to get to the rio secreto. We showered and were fitted with our equipment. Before entering, we participated in a short Mayan greeting ceremony. We walked, scrambled, and at times, swam through the underground River for an hour and a half, and Mitch gave context to the fragile and unique symbiotic ecosystem of cave, river, bats, catfish, ficus, ants, and a special spider (which we luckily did not see). When we entered a special chamber Mitch led us in a visualization moment which was powerful. When we returned via bikes someone's bike broke so Mitch gave her his and he ran ahead of us all the way back. He is trained as a triathlete and it shows. The meal at the end was very good and there is is a small gift shop. The transport was good too. I highly recommend this tour! We absolutely loved our excursion to the Rio Secreto back in early March! It was helpful to read the reviews before in order to know what to expect. We were on a Royal Caribbean cruise, and they provided motion sickness pills since the boat to get to the island was super bumpy. VERY BUMPY. Take the motion sickness pills!! Once you get over, you will be at a little tourist area where they take you on buses to the location. Once there, you are provided wet suits and other equipment. There were a few people who didn't wear bathing suits so make sure to wear them and bring clothes to change in after. After in our suits, we rinsed off then went through the caves. It was such a cool experience, but make sure you use the restroom before you go in since there isn't a bathroom inside. If you have trouble walking or clumsy, this is not the excursion for you. After, there is a nice little local lunch after you change out of your wet clothes. You aren't allowed to take pictures, and I would've fallen or missed something if I did. We opted out since we were chubby in our fitted wet suits . We were then taken back to the shopping area to shop before we loaded the boat. I would highly recommend this excursion! read more

Rio Secreto is one of the most impressive tours I have been on PERIOD. Since the caves were only found recently, the entire property is barely touched by humans and tourism, it was awesome to get so close to nature. Our tour guide was a biology major working on his PHD and was extremely educated and fun. He LOVES his job, and it's really easy to tell throughout the tour. There are 5 different tour paths we were told are different. We were on one I think called "Princess" (guide said all paths were all different so if you go again you can see a different portion. The is broken up into 3 portions in 3 different sections on the caves. Dry cave (YOU CAN BRING A CAMERA SO DO IT!), a wet cave with repelling into cave (40% swimming 60% walking) and a final wet cave 75% swimming 25% walking). read more

Excellent tour! A highly recommended excursion on a week or longer vacation. It breaks up your time with an unforgettable day. I was disappointed at first when I was told I could not bring my GoPro since it is waterproof - but, I am happy it was not allowed. It gave me an opportunity to be completely removed from technology and experience the wonders around me. It is not an excursion for the faint of heart! It calls out your inner adventurer, from the climbing in the hills to the narrow passageways through the cave. Victor was our tour guide and he was patient, but also pushed us steadily as to take in everything allotted in our 1 and a half tour. Food was tasty for an included meal - nothing extravagant. But quick and sufficient for your ride back to your resort. We opted into buying the $99.00 USB drive photo package and it did not disappoint. Some of our photos were blurry, but the photographer was running through knee and waste high waters with her camera in the air. We were afraid Rio Secreto would be a repeat of the underground rivers at Xcaret and Xplor, but Rio Secreto is a whole different experience. We booked the basic tour in advance online (make sure to browse for promos on their website!) and were picked up from our hotel. This tour starts a little later that most, which is nice for days when you don't want to wake up at the crack of dawn. Upon arrival and check-in, you're split into tour groups (English speakers together, Spanish speakers together). Cameras are not allowed, as they have a cameraman with each tour group at most times, and you'll have to purchase pictures through them. It is a super bumpy ride into the jungle. Luckily, I had motion sickness medicine, as both my partner and I were very uncomfortable. There's a short walk in the lush jungle, then finally descent into the underground river. Our tour guide Luis walked us through the various areas, always making sure we were comfortable, safe, and respectful to the environment. After your exploration, you take another bumpy ride to the lunch area, where you purchase pictures, sample the local liquor Xtabentun, and enjoy the small lunch buffet. Overall, I really like the "small company, very environmentally conscious" vibe from Rio Secreto. read more

Probably the WORST experience I have ever had!!! I had booked the tour over a phone call 20min before the tour started. The person who helped me told me that if I made it to Rio Secreto within 15min then I can get on the tour. I had paid the money for the tickets and once I arrived, they denied us the tour because apparently the tour had already begun. The guy on the phone had told me since we paid, they would wait for us but clearly, they took our money and did not. I then had to get on a phone call with customer service twice to argue about getting a refund for my money! And after being on the call multiple times they said they would refund us with a penalty charge even though it was NOT our fault!!! I would NOT recommend this tour to anyone! Amazing! Our tour guide, Jose Luis was extremely knowledgeable & helpful. He always made sure that we were very comfortable and felt safe. Miss Antonia made us phenomenal tortillas & Sikil Pak, omg sooooo good. Daniel, knew how to take the perfect photo every time and he was extremely nice. The excursion itself, including hiking, swimming, and biking were all very doable for many different people. We even felt safe doing the rappelling, which I was most nervous about. You will try so many different things on this trip & you will feel very accomplished afterwards. Not to mention, our group members were so awesome & encouraging. GETTING THERE ============= This is the crappy part. Once you arrive near the front, you will board a van shuttle to get to their official entrance. Called the "Mayan Massage" due to the endless potholes, it was the bumpiest and most uncomfortable ride. Roundtrip means double the fun on this. ADVENTURE ========== - Watch a short video - Get a wetsuit - Get a locker - Take an outdoor shower - Hiking - Swimming - No Photography (you have the option of purchasing a $25 single souvenir photo afterward or several photos on a CD if you're a baller - - courtesy of their onsite photographers) - Mayan shots (tastes like black licorice) - American-style lunch buffet - Go home by 4PM Hiking and swimming through a labyrinth of a really cool underground river while surrounded by crystal formations at the Mayan Riviera was truly a worthwhile experience. This is a nice little family adventure about an hour south of Cancun. We made a private tour booking. The guide was awesome (though had a hard time understanding his heavily accented English). The tour itself lasted about 2 hours. Its not really strenuous - anyone without major disability should be able to do. No need to know swimming either - there are barely any places where you'd have to float/swim. We had a four-year old and she could manage without any issues. The cave and the underwater river is pretty awesome - one of its kind. There is almost a mystical quality to the place. The food at the end of the tour was good - minimal options but tasty and fresh. Know that you have to pay for the photos. The photographer knew exactly where to place the lights etc for the right pic and it made it worth it read more

My family and I completely enjoyed our tour of Rio Secreto! The whole day was so exciting and filled with adventures! We were picked up from Moon Palace in the morning and headed off to Playa del Carmen in a comfortable van. We took part in the Rio Secreto Plus tour, and at a little past 10 a.m., we arrived and were given a brief introduction and we were assigned to Santiago, our awesome and knowledgeable tour guide! There were only 10 people in our group so it was a perfect group size. For a little over an hour, we explored a dry cave where we participated in sacred Mayan rituals, watched a mesmerizing sound and light show, and walked around listening to Santi's in-depth knowledge of the history of the peoples and the area. It was cool to see the sound and light show because it was like watching modern technology on a huge, ancient backdrop of rocks and stalactites that are several thousands of years old. Then, we took our bicycles through the jungle for about half an hour and went to the rappelling site. The rappelling was a little over 50 meters and it was our whole family's first time but we all loved it! Dani and Pablo, the rappelling guides, made us feel very safe too! Plus, the water was very cool and refreshing at the bottom of the cenote. Then we bicycled back to the meeting area and got our wetsuits and gear and headed off to Santi's "favorite route." This route is called "Allegro," which means happiness, and the inside of the cave was huge! If you have claustrophobia, I think this route is for you because there wasn't a single tight space that I could remember. Here, Santi talked about the geography of the stalactites and stalagmites, how the Yucatan peninsula was formed, and more. Of course there were more things but I won't spoil it all for you! We also briefly experimented being in the caves in complete darkness, which was awesome, and we finished off with the floating part, where we float through the cave until we hit the end! It was truly a magical experience. The whole tour including the lunch buffet ended at around 4:30 p.m. and I was so sad to say goodbye. There is also a photographer who follows each group, and our photographer Anna was always one step ahead of us to capture amazing pictures of us! We aren't allowed to bring cameras into the caves, but honestly I think this policy is better because it would have been too distracting to take pictures because the sights are breathtaking and it's better to be in the moment for these kinds of activities. Plus, the caverns are dark so constant flashes from other people's cameras would also have been distracting too! Couple of notes: Apparently visiting Rio Secreto is a great rainy day activity because apart from the bicycle ride, everything is pretty much underground. It's perfect for those days when you can't go to the beach! As for us, we went when it was pretty hot outside and the water from the caves cooled us off all day. Also be sure not to wear any sunscreen, even the biodegradable ones, because the oils will spoil the natural waters and alter its composition. Plus, as I mentioned earlier, most of the activities are underground and there are a lot of trees and natural shade so you don't need it. And they will make you take it off if you have trace amounts of sunscreen so don't even think about it! Also, make sure you have a big breakfast because these activities will make you hungry and you obviously can't carry food into the underwater cave so I found that it's best to come in a full stomach! They do offer a delicious lunch buffet with traditional food, but depending on the time of your tour and which activities you do first, you might not get to eat until a couple hours after the tour starts. Last but not least, definitely ask for Santiago! He was so thorough with explaining the geography and history of the caves, the Mayan people, and more! We learned so much from him. He was always on the lookout for us during each activity and making sure we were safe. Also, he is very caring about the environment and it was nice to be a part of his goal of educating visitors on preserving these natural wonders! Overall, Santi made this experience unforgettable and our family cannot thank him enough! I definitely recommend this excursion to everyone visiting Cancun! read more

This place is really amazing! Our tour guide, Julian, was awesome! You could tell he really cared about the caves and loved his job! He was also extra attentive to a girl in our group who couldn't swim. He made sure she was comfortable and safe, and she was able to do everything the rest of us did. The only bad thing I can say is that the pictures are crazy $$$$, but YOU CAN HAGGLE DOWN THE PRICE OF YOUR PICTURES!!! A woman in our group got all her pics and a bottle of Mayan liqueur for $50 (versus $89 for just the pictures). This is what happens: 1) You check in & watch a video about the grounds 2) Learn who your guide is, & take a 10 minute van ride to the cave location (you'll meet your guide after the van ride) 3) Put your stuff in a locker (you can't wear jewelry, sunglasses, anything!); they provide lockers & locks/keys 4) Undress down to your bathing suit & take a refreshing shower! (You need to wash off any deodorant, lotions, perfumes, etc.) 5) Put on the wetsuit they give you, water shoes they give you, life vest they give you, & grab a walking stick (you'll really want a walking stick!) 6) Group photo! 7) Start walking to the caves, stop for cool Mayan ritual 8) Enter the caves and have a blast! 9) Get back, change into your clothes, and eat a buffet-style lunch Even if you're not a strong swimmer, you can still enjoy this! We booked our day at Rio Secreto through our hotel, which went through Cancun Passion, for $109. I personally think it was worth it! We were picked up at our hotel in Cancun by a van, precisely on time. After filling up the van, we were transferred to a bus somewhere downtown (kinda weird, but it all worked out fine). Once at Rio Secreto, you watch a little video about the nature preserve and get assigned to a group and tour guide. Then you take another van ride to the center of the park where you get a locker for your stuff and change into your bathing suit. You are provided with water shoes (if you have an issue with sharing shoes, bring your own), a wet suit (getting into the wet suit was the most physically taxing part of the entire day, at least for me!), and a life jacket. The life jacket is the only *required* piece of equipment, but you will be thankful to put all of those things to use. I promise! Our tour guide, Pablo (I think...pretty sure...) was fantastic. He was patient, clear with instructions, and kept us entertained singing some David Bowie as we made our way through the caves. After the tour ended and we all got dressed again, we had time to eat a buffet lunch (the hibiscus tea was fabulous!) and check out the pictures that were taken along the way that you can purchase. The photos are pricey indeed. But, understandably, cameras and phones are not allowed on the tour. A group of us went in on our photos purchase, which come digital on a disc. Because there were 4 of us in the group, we thought it was well worth the money to have some photos of the experience. This was a wonderful experience, which we only found out about from a friend of a friend in the middle of our stay. This was on the ol' bucket list for years" We visited Rio Secreto in early May. I'd seen pictures on Pinterest and put it on my bucket list ... was anxious to see it in person. We had read that finding this place on our own was difficult, so we arranged them pick us up from our resort. We prepaid with paypal and were able to save 10%. I believe we paid 50 each. The road through the jungle is very rough so if you have car sickness issues might want to take something prior. You need to bring your own bathingsuit and bring money for pictures just incase you decide you want them. You can't take your own camera or water camera but they have a "professional" taking pictures which they sell for 70 US plus money to tip your guide. The pictures are pricey but I decided to buy them. Our photographer was just ok .. didn't take alot or do anything very interesting but wanted some pics of this once in a lifetime adventure. Our guide , Julio, was excellent!!! He met with our group and got us set up with Wetsuits, helmets with lights, water shoes and lockers. They broke us up in groups by what language we spoke. We were told the groups would be no more than 10. Julio was very patient and informative. We felt safe at all times. They will offer you walking sticks ... everyone should take one. The tour is difficult walking and the stick will be a big help. Before entering you are "blessed" by a Mayan preist which we found somewhat offensive. This cenote is magnificent and worth the effort and expense. We had went to several other cenotes but I dare say there isn't one to match this one. The meal they provide ... well I decided to wait to get back to our luxury resort. We did drink the water /koolaid they had to drink and we both got Ill so i would bring your own bottles of water and stick to that. This is one of the best excursions I've been on. The caves were gorgeous and the staff were incredible. The food provided at the end was pretty good as well. I want to emphasize that this area is a nature preserve first and tourist attraction second. That being said, while the prices of things such as the photos are expensive, know that much of that money is going back into the preserve and funding projects and digs within and around the caves. Pablo was our guide and he was absolutely amazing. The staff all refer to their guests as "familia" or family, but he really took it to heart in every interaction with us. Additionally, you could tell how much he loved to work there and that he was enthusiastic about the work the preserve did. read more

One of the most amazing things I have ever done in my life. it was one of the best days of my life I was in true awe. The serenity. The beauty. The peace. It is a must do. There are 5 different paths you can do. I can't wait to do all of them. You take a 5 mile drive into the jungle. The path was full of these butterflies that look like leaves. The vans they take you in are air conditioned and semi comfortable. The drivers are fun and safe. Be prepared to put on life jackets, a helmet with a lights, used wet wetsuits and used wet shoes. Yes it is still worth it. They do seem to rinse them off. You will rinse off in a shower to bring down the PH of your skin. We did path Allegre. It was a walk and a swim. You will see, stalagmites and some really amazing rock formations. If you have been to caverns like Carlsbad Caverns, Sonoma, Kratchner Caverns this is very much like that but with water and you can swim in it. A note: Do Not pay for the USB pictures as much as we were excited to get pictures we got to the hotel and they were not loaded on the the USB. A tour of Rio Secreto cost us $119 USD each booked via our hotel but perhaps it's cheaper directly through their website (see Andrea B.'s very comprehensive review). These are gorgeous 40km caves with stalactites and stalagmites and swimming caves. The transport to get here took a long time but you cannot drive there as the caves are in a secret location. So secret our driver got lost on the bumpy roads! (This was actually as he was an extra hired driver for the day and didn't know where to go) The tour was good and explained for safety by video first. We had a guide and photographer with our group the whole way down. Water shoes are included along with short wetsuit, life jacket and helmet with light. You are not allowed to bring your own camera even if waterproof. The photos were disappointingly expensive at $89 USD which most of us were upset about and passed on. This tainted an otherwise great experience and there were no postcards for sale. I would go again as the caves were stunning it was a huge shame about the extortionate price. There was a buffet lunch included the ticket price which was okay but not the "gastronomic experience" stated. There are lockers and showers at site to wash off the bacteria you walked/swam through. If you have never been to a cenote you need to try this. It's a guided tour and we purchased the package with transportation from our hotel. They picked us up on time which hardly happens in Mexico. When we got there they immediately greeted us and took us to a hut where we completed paperwork. Unfortunately, we cannot take our cameras and cell phones. Then they offered us water shoes and had to wear a wetsuit and life vest. Thank goodness it wasn't too hot getting there. When we got into the cave I realized thank goodness for the wetsuit because the water was cold, I guess I should have requested for a smaller size..lol.. anyways, all I have to say is that its an awesome experience and would definitely go again with my kids. These pictures are being sold to you as a package for no less than 120 dollars. What a disappointment. I can not say enough good things about my experience here! The caves are absolutely breathtaking. The tour guide (we had Jorge) was very friendly and made us feel very comfortable and safe in the caves. He was very informative and I learned a lot of really neat things about the cave formation. We were in the caves for about an hour and a half which was perfect time. not too short and not too long. Everything is provided including wet suits, helmet, headlamp, life vest, and walking sticks (which it isn't a bad idea to grab one! the ground is very uneven) Warning: This isn't for out of shape or claustrophobic types. There were some really tight spaces we had to squeeze through. The food after was great. My only complaint is that the pictures were very expensive. Last note: I really hope that this company does a good job of preserving this gorgeous land with the influx of tourists. Please while you are in the caves DO NOT touch the stalagmites and stalactites. These caves are amazing and we need to preserve them for years to come. read more

This was the first time I've done a underground river and would 10/10 recommend to anyone. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and very fluent in English and Spanish. Jorge was our tour guide and he was fantastic, funny, and went out of his way to give us a great experience. The caves were beautiful, well maintained, and our tour felt private. Prior to entering the cave we were given equipment that was made sure it was working and comfortable. Wait times weren't bad. Cave exploration included cultural heritage as we were part of a Mayan ritual that was said to protect us while we were in the cave. This is one of those things that you have to do when you are in Cancun. When else in your life do you get to explore and swim in an underground cave system while looking at the cool formations in the cave. It is a bit pricey but totally worth it. Plus, it includes a buffet after your exploration so at least lunch is included. I would have rated this better except our guide kind of sucked. She had no personality at all and could be compared to the strictest elementary teacher ever. We had two girls in our group who happened to be a little giggly but I really did not find it distracting, but she made one of them be at the front of the group, while the other had to be in the back. Kind of ridiculous since we are all adults and are just trying to have a good time. Also, they don't let you bring a camera since they say it is a "safety" issue but I think it really is just a way to gouge you for money. While you are exploring the cave, they have their own professional photographer snapping photos. Then, they turn around and sell a photo for $25 dollars. Or you could buy multiple photos from the whole excursion for about $79 dollars. And if you choose to buy the one photo, it does not even come printed out. They give you a CD so you have to take it home to print it yourself. Don't let the price deter you from doing this. It is fun, and I would probably even pay to do it again with a different guide. And, if you can't swim. It really isn't a problem. They give you a life jacket so you can just kind of float through the deeper parts. read more

The scenery is ok but most of the fun is definitely attributed to the tour guide. I specifically love the part when it's totally dark and we all lie on our back on the surface of water. This place won't allow you to take any of your own pictures during any part of the trip. Then they try to charge you $100 for the pictures they took. Even though this is an outrageous amount of money, I was going to purchase them anyway. But now I have sent 5 separate emails asking for my pictures and no response whatsoever. My trip was 8 full days ago! I guess I will never get to have a single picture from this day. Very disappointed in this terrible customer service. read more

This cave tour was absolutely incrediable! Our group was fairly small so it was really personable with the tour guide. The rise from the port to the park is about 30 minutes in a van. The road is very bumpy so take a Dramamine to prevent motion sickness. When you get to The park they fit you with swim shoes, wet suit, and a hard hat. You def need all three of these. Then you embark through a spectacular cave system and the water is so refreshing and clear. I could have stayed down there for days. The freaky thing is When they ask everyone to turn off the lights!!!!! It's so dark it will freak you out! After the caving they have a catered lunch that is provided and you absolutely have to try the yellow hot sauce on the bar. Pictures are not allowed in the cave by visitors so it kind of forces you to buy the expensive tour provided ones. I ended up going with just the single photo and it ran me $25. All in all this is a great to her if you're in the Cozumel Playa de Carmen area. read more

Good adventure with a little bit of an offputting hustle. The good- the actual trip itself and the guides are very informative. The underground river cavern was a good experience and made you feel like you were part of something. That alone made the trip and made me feel like I was in a NatGeo documentary. Loved that part. The eh-The audio cave walk and the bike ride to the rappelling portion felt like they were added just to throw something in there. It wasn't a terrible time but it felt forced and I could have done without it. If the experience is new to you you may like it. The bad-they try and hustle you for pictures at the end. When you're in the underground cavern in the water, you can't take your phone or cameras and of course you want pics of your experience. They take all the pictures for you and bring you in a room at the end to show you the pictures. They charge $25 for 1 or $100 for all of them which are around 15-20 pics. (of course you can try and negotiate to maybe $75) The problem is is that you don't get the physical pictures but rather a flash drive with "the pictures on them." Of course when I got back to the hotel and inserted the flash drive it was blank. I attempted to contact them but received no response and at this point the pics are probably erased from their main computer by now. Maybe it was an irregular mishap but it still sucks. Regardless it was a good adventure and you'll be glad you had that experience just don't get taken advantage of at the end. read more

This place was everything the you could want and more if you are an adventure enthusiast. The venue was well organized and have dedicated guides in your native language. The blessing upon the cave entry is very special and meaningful if you are into that sort of thing. The caves are beautiful from beginning to end. They provide you with all that you need for the underground river trip. You will get wet! They also provide a buffet lunch upon the completion of your voyage. The only grief I had was purchasing the tickets through trip advisor was a mistake. read more

I chose the "Plus Tour". It started with a walk into a dry cave. The calcium fomations of the cave, the view of the jungle vegetation coming into the cave through the various entrances, the transparency of the underground river and lighting create an out-of-this-world ambient that MUST be seen. Then, we rode bikes through the dirt roads of the property to get to the entance of a partially flooded cave. It required us a 45 ft rappel to get to the cave. The "walk and splash" trip was the appetizer for our next activity. A longer trip to a cave were walking and swimming in the river allowed us to see beautiful formations and endemic fauna of the cave. By the time we were done with the whole tour, it have been 5 hours that were worth every penny. We then, had an authentic Yucatán buffete that was very vast and of great taste. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I strongly recommend it. read more

This was an amazing experience. Recommend skipping the "plus" tour and stick with the basic 1.5 hour adventure. Riding a bike and visiting a Mayan village ain't all that and definitely not worth an extra $20 and 2.5 hours. Parts of the caves are extremely slippery and uneven. Definitely wear the wetsuit since the water is a little chilly and grab a walking stick for balance. It's a definite must do. Danny G was an awesome tour guide. read more

This may be one of the coolest things I have ever experienced. The tour was handled incredibly well, it was highly organized as they split us into teams, geared us all up with wetsuits, booties, life vests and helmets, conducted a safety check, and gave us a briefing of what we were about to experience. Our guide Adriano was wonderfully affable and capable. Major props to him, and if you are lucky enough to have him as your guide, know that you are in good hands. The cenote itself was breathtaking. No words or pictures can fully do it justice. I will say that the walk was a little tricky at times - you should definitely opt for the walking stick. If you have bad knees or are claustrophobic, I would also caution you that this experience might not be for you. BUT - definitely bring your children - it's something they will absolutely love, and they'll probably actually handle it even better than the adults! The water is pure, and safe to swim in and drink. It's cold at first, but becomes comfortable very quickly. You won't want to get out! Perhaps the best part of our tour is when we reached a point where the river was deep enough to swim. We all linked hands and formed a circle, and brought our feet in front of us, so we were all laying on our backs, completely relaxed. Then we all turned out our lights and floated completely still, completely silent, in complete darkness. It was a perfect moment. If you ever visit Playa del Carmen, I hope you get a chance to experience this! read more
