Shout out to this store and especially to Matt, who has always given me great service, and just recently saved my butt when he didn't have to. I demo'd a firewire board last weekend at salt creek, and the van left with my drivers license before I could return the board. I had no way to contact them or anything, but I remembered that the Ripcurl store sometimes has that van there but I don't think they they had anything to do with the current demo event I was partaking in... Anyway so I called around asking what to do, and finally reached Matt, who went above and beyond by taking my number down, getting in contact with the guy driving the Firewire Demo van, and having him drop off my Drivers License at the Ripcurl store, and said I could come in anytime to return the board and take my DL. He literally saved me a massive headache and 3 hours of driving down to the Firewire store in San Diego (far from my home) to get my DL back from them had Matt not been the middle man and handled the issue swiftly. He has always been super nice and helpful when I'm in the store (just like all the employees) but he really went above and beyond this time and I'm extremely grateful! read more

Loved this place! I was looking for a 4/3 wetsuit since I have been freezing my ass off surfing every day this winter. Well apparently because of Covid everybody and their mother is surfing and there is a massive shortage on wetsuits. Especially 4/3 suits this winter. I showed up desperate! And a very helpful manager helped me find what I needed. I was so stoked. Very nicely laid out store. Not an outlet so it's not a bunch of stuff piled up on sale. I bought a new surfboard and received first class service from Matthew. He made some great recommendations and suggestions. After selection he perfectly aligned and installed the deck pad, making sure that the deck was properly cleaned with alcohol first. Then installed the fins, which can be challengingly tight on a fresh board. These small details matter, especially in a time when many companies have many excuses for lackluster service. Stay away from rip curl wetsuits if you want them to last more than 1 season. I purchased 2 flash bombs over the past 2 years hoping they would last for multiple seasons, unfortunately they BOTH started leaking In the crotch area within a year and progressively worsened the next. I sent one in for warranty work assuming it would be taken care of. Nope, the lady said it was a liquid seam failure and not covered under the 3 year seam warranty? Now I have around 700$ worth of leaky wetsuits.. oh well.. lesson learned. read more

This past week my husband and I had the pleasure of wandering into this Rip curl store looking for fun Californian clothing. We feel like we hit the jackpot!!! The big cat caught me by the left hand. I don't know what kind of cat it was...a jaguar, panther, I don't know...but it was big and hungry. Damn, and I almost made it all the way into the house before it got me. I howled in pain as the cat bit down and I just knew I'd never be able to pull free. It had me too good. Then I saw the large butcher's knife on the kitchen counter. If I managed to grab it, would I be able to chop off my own left hand? And then I woke up. Shit! That was a scary one. We were hungry after a long surf at Trestles, "Hungry as a tiger" I thought. I hadn't shared my dream with my surf partner, what good would it do? But when I asked if she wanted to hit up a surf shop before eating, she was all for it. She also loves surf shopping. So we came to the Ripcurl Surf Center near our breakfast restaurant, Tommy's. Ripcurl serves the large surfing community of San Clemente and as such, provides an ample supply of everything to surf by. And this two-story shop has everything. It even has "Firebomb" (battery heated) wetsuits, hoods and mitts, things you'll never need in these waters. But hey, if you're visiting Alaska or Canada, these are just the things you WILL need. Like I said, they have everything. A weekly "Board of the Week" highlights particular sticks with their unique properties and a weekly sale ensures a value-priced option for the frugal. Like me. When ever I'm driving to Mexico or passing thru San Clemente, I always stop by for a new bikini or some wax, etc.. Check it out sometime.

Had been a longtime Rip Curl customer. Even if they don't have the best wetsuits, they are committed to the San Clemente community with two stores here. When the zipper busted on my suit, I took it to the San Clemente store for repair. I was told that they send stuff to their service center every day and it would take 10 days to get it fixed. After 2 weeks I got a call from the service center saying they were going to fix it that day and I could expect it back to the store in 2-3 days. I started calling the store to see when I could expect my suit back. Each time I called they said they would call me when it came in. After another week I asked for the service center number and called myself. Found out that the store sat on my suit for 10 days before sending it in. To make things worse the service center shipped my repaired suit to the wrong store in San Diego. They said they would call the SD store and have them put it right back on the truck for San Clemente. Which they did not. So my suit sat in San Diego for three more days. When I finally got it back after almost a month, they charged me full price for the repair and wanted to charge me for shipping, which they said nothing about when I first ordered the repair. After serious complaint they "waived" the shipping charge. After posting a complaint on facebook and twitter, to their credit I received a call from RipCurl's VP of Operations. He apologized and offered my a 25% discount on a future purchase. Too little too late. I've since bought three Hyperflex westsuits and am very happy. read more

Pretty decent place but I do resent corporate places running locals out of business. Rocky's Surf city suffered from the corporate moves on local beaches. The push from Yuppie money ran Rocky out of business with their ridiculous offers of rent...sadly, San Clemente has slowly turned into the trendy boutique holes on Newport ........... The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable of the surf products, in particular wetsuits & surfboards. I think the prices have gone up over the past few years, but I've seen that in about all of the competing surf lines/brands. I think the store has done well in trying to maintain a "keep it real" vibe, while balancing with the corporate demands. read more

Bought a new Ripcurl E Bomb wetsuit in Dec 2010 that needed repair for unraveling stitches in both arms, took more than 1 week for the repair 35 miles away, I paid shipping 1way. Fast forward 10 months later in Oct 2011 the suit's rubber has completely worn out at the top of the shoulders, not from hangers, and the knees, the prior repairs are now unraveling as well. long story short; Matt at the service repair said he wouldn't fix the shoulders which would require a replacement wetsuit since I couldn't prove I bought it new in 2010. I've never had this BS pulled from O'Neill, and when I told them I lost the receipt, they wouldn't budge. Bottom line; Ripcurl won't stand behind their products because they're defective and low quality and they KNOW IT. I won't be back to these posers again, if you don't believe me, just ask anybody who wears an E Bomb to check the material on the shoulders and knees. 9 out of 10 will show premature wear. read more
