Howdy! Been coming to see Paul and his absolutely wonderful/helpful Wife and daughter who work the shop with him for over a year now! I've probably spent well over $2000 here and don't regret a single cent I've spent. On the advice of my good buddy I came in last ski season wherein Paul helped set me up with completely new boots bindings and a snowboard practically tailor fit for me. Just last Friday I came in for advice on new boots and Paul's perspective was invaluable! The extent of his knowledge and experience in all things ski/snowboard related is a testament to how great my experiences have been on the mountain ever since! Honestly couldn't have done it without these guys! This is an awesome shop and an awesome family! I have spent about $1500 at this shop over the last 6 months on snowboard and skate gear for my son. Three days ago, we bought a set of pads and a complete skateboard for my son. Three days into camp, the straps have torn on 2 of the 6 pads, so I went over on my lunch break to get them swapped out. That's when the owners teenage daughter decided to coach me on how business works after accusing my son of damaging the pads. I explained to her the strap was simply defective and we needed the pads swapped out for the last day of skate camp. She told me I had to go through the manufacturer. I explained that's why I gave her dad's store the business, so I wouldn't have to deal with the manufacturer. She continued to be snippy and demeaning, overall incredibly unprofessional and rude. I'm now sitting at home sewing the straps. I will not be spending another dollar at this store. Sorry Paul--you're a good dude but your employees need a course in customer service. I'm so disappointed. I want to shop local, but this employee has made that impossible at this store. read more

Hands down THE BEST experience we've ever had in a snow/surf shop. Paul and Izzy are genuinely wonderful and knowledgeable people. They're a family owned and run small business that started with Paul's father in the 60's and it's always so important to support your local small businesses! I don't know much about snowboarding I'm just getting more into it, whereas my fiancée rides regularly. They taught me so much, helped me pick out a board, and measured me for it. First off I would like to say, the minute I walked in I was greeted and helped. He took the time to explain everything in detail. At first I thought wow this guy cares, but then I realized he was just a good sales guy. I was polite and made it pretty obvious that I was looking for something basic just to get me on the mountain and enjoy things with the family. That put him into the ( I am not gunna make a lot of money off this guy mode ) I then asked if I could try on some snowboard boots, his immediate response was are you buying today ?????. That pissed me off, I am 36 years old and have never been asked that question in my life. The correct response would have been sure no problem. Then we got into a small argument and I walked out. I would avoid this place at all cost, bring your business else where, go to Dreamruns or CBS, where they treat you like people and not a dollar sign. read more

I love this shop. First time I came to their shop when they were at the smaller location in December of 2019 and bought a Never Summer Proto Type II board because I couldn't find any Never Summer boards in San Diego. I've never heard of the bindings brands that they had but I selected the Flux - DS Hosoi bindings and a bacon stomp pad. They gave me a great deal on the setup. Yesterday April 2023, came to their shop again not knowing it was the same great folks, Paul and Itsy. I was a little worried because I came up right after work from Vista, CA and was trying to make it before 6pm since that's what time they told me they closed. I called a couple shops beforehand because I was looking for a step on setup. I came up to their shop and it was a bigger spot than what I remembered. They all greeted me once I stepped in. I told them what I was looking for. They didn't have the exact boot and binding model I was looking for but I found something better that fits me. That's the great thing about coming into a shop and trying things on. I never felt rushed or anything since it was soo close to closing time. If I ever decide to take on surfing I'll be sure to make the trip from San Diego again. read more

I must say that this is the highest level of service that I have experienced for as long as I can remember. I went to SoCal Surf to shop for snowboarding equipment. (I was a long-time skier that wanted to switch to snowboarding) The shop is owned by husband and wife Paul and Elizabeth. Both of them snowboard and Paul has been snowboarding for decades, and has been a teacher of the sport. (He is also an avid surfer and skateboarder). Elizabeth set me up with all the gear and provided excellent advice stemming from her many years of experience. And Paul even provided a lesson for me on his Carver skateboard in the parking lot on how to maneuver down the slopes. My husband needed to prep for an upcoming snowboard trip during his lunch break, but the snowboard shop closest to his work was closed. After a quick search he found SoCal Surf Shop, and it was the best thing to happen to him. He needed some gear and to get his board and Dad's skis waxed, but through the process he got more than he bargained for and practically found his home shop overnight. First, it's a family run business and he dealt with Paul, the owner, from start to finish. After measuring his palm and head, Paul helped my husband find the best fitting gloves and helmet. In addition, after picking up his board, the owner mentioned he re-set my husband's bindings because they weren't aligned right. They also got rust off of his Dad's skis and sharpened the dull edges. SoCal Surf Shop is awesome and I highly recommend it. It's now my go-to for all my snowboarding gear. On my first visit, I spent time with the owner Paul as he helped me pick out and try on boots. He has decades of industry experience as a professional rider and as an apparel designer, so his guidance was literally something I couldn't get anywhere else (especially not online!). He didn't just have me try on a few pairs and try to push the most expensive ones (which has happened to me several times in the past at other places), but he took the time to find out what kind of riding I'd be doing and made recommendations based on what would be best for my needs and gave me several options at different price points and different added features. I was very happy with my first visit, so I went back a few days later and bought a helmet and goggles. Again, the guidance of both Paul and his wife was extremely valuable. I don't have the time to research what the best brands are these days and what products are well reviewed, so leaning on their experience and wealth of knowledge is priceless. Super Stoked I was referred to this shop by a girlfriend of mine.. She told me they ride all the boards and put everything they sell to the test prior to putting it on the shelf. I went in for some new bindings and a new board and Paul the owner spent at least an hour with me to make sure I got the best fit for everything I needed, I was shopping for my son and his expertise was extremely helpful! To say he was a wealth of knowledge would possibly be an understatement! Then I went in the next day and bought a sick pair of Burton bindings and Michael helped me and told me to bring my board back with my boots to make sure I was getting the perfect size bindings for my needs, then he mounted the bindings on my board and showed me every tweak and adjustment possible on a very advanced new binding with tons of adjustment options!
