Service was great, I wish I could remember our waitresses name. Shayna comes to mind but I'm not certain. She was friendly and efficient. We all ordered something different and needed a million things. She always smiled and was quick with everything. Food was great, portions were good sized! Shrimp fritters are now added to my favorites list. Clean bathrooms inside. Live music outside. Indoor/outdoor and in between seating available. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is for parking. You are competing with beach goers, hotel guests and dining guests. If you don't get one of those few spots, then you have to valet. No trip to Daytona Beach/Ormond Beach is complete for my family without a visit to Riptides Bar & Grill. The food is always good, they have a full bar with a variety of beers, and often, live music. There is inside and outside dining and there are multiple bars. They have their own parking lot, and it's right on Atlantic Avenue, so what's not to like? On our recent visit to Daytona for Biketoberfest; we felt the need to enjoy a sit down meal, away from all the craziness on Main Street. It was late on a Friday, about 10 pm, and we were sad to see that the musician on the patio was just packing it up when we arrived. (It wasn't very busy at all. There were a few tables finishing up outside and a few patrons eating, drinking, and watching football at the bar.). We ordered some beers and looked over the quite extensive menu; seafood specialties, sandwiches, salads, even steaks. I decided to order a jerk chicken salad with mango salsa and my husband ordered the "surf burger" with onion rings. The food came out relatively quickly; however my husband was surprised to see peppers on his burger because he doesn't eat them. It turns out the server thought he ordered a "jerk burger," so it had to go back to the kitchen and get corrected. We were told it would be a quick fix, but it actually took about 10 minutes. (I presume this was a good thing because they probably cooked a whole new burger instead of just scraping off/exchanging the toppings.). My salad was delicious. The chicken was plentiful and shredded; with just the right amount of seasoning. It was a hefty portion and I thoroughly enjoyed the salsa. The burger was worth the wait because my husband said it was very good with a heaping portion of mixed seafood delightI. couldn't resist trying one of the onion rings, and boy were they good! Warm and not too crispy or too soft. I was happy to see that Riptides is still around. It has been a favorite casual dining place for us over the years on our visits to Daytona. Sat at the bar on a Sunday night during football playoffs, so it was packed. First- time visit, even though it's been here for years. Tried a couple Florida craft beers. The hostess at the front needs to be friendly and helpful. God Forbid you ask either one to do anything for you. Our server was an absolute doll, but the lunches came out sooooo slow and we were the FIRST table in there. Smoked Fish dip app was really good, but I found it odd that they just put a pile of unseasoned chopped tomatoes there and not a pico do gallo. It came with tortilla chips and was good, but the unseasoned diced tomatoes were crying for help. I would also think for $27 for seafood Mac n Cheese they could give several shrimp. I think there were 5 in the whole dish and the rest was tiny Bay Scallops. 10 shrimp for a dish like this should be status quo! Overall a cheap dish to prepare, but SUPER overpriced. The zucchini served as a side were over cooked and over salted. Nothing is more disgusting that limp zucchini. The burger with seafood stuffing was really good, but the side of black beans and yellow rice had more raves than the burger. So good job on the sides. Again to summarize... SERVICE = 5 stars. Kitchen speed = 2.8 Hostess = 1 Please train your hostesses to smile! I saw people walk in and were told to see the hostess to be seated, but she was no where to be found so they left. I would return, but if I walked up and the same irritated hostess greeted me I would turn around. Next time I would probably order one of their burgers! They looked amazing! Not bad for a place normally swarming with sweaty tourists. We ate here tonight for the first time (locals). My daughter and I had the shrimp avocado wrap (fine) and my wife liked her Phiily cheesesteak. I tried the Surf-n-Turf Bisque as it was recommended by another poster here and it did not disappoint! The fish here is sub-par. So much over cooked that it is not edible. They refuse to make substitutions for allergies and are not even respectful about it. There is no smoke-free location to wait for a table since all of the bar patrons stand at the entrance to smoke. We visited Riptides for the first time on our last trip to Ormond Beach but I doubt it will be our last. We were looking for a place with fresh seafood and Riptides delivered. There were so many options on the menu including all you can eat crab. Our table order different dishes including shrimp, crab, lobster and the seafood mac and cheese. All the food was delicious, hot and incredibly fresh. We also ordered mixed drinks and beers that we enjoyed while listening to the live music outside on the large patio. I was not impressed. The fish tacos were good but there was so much juice from the salsa that it made the shell soggy. The fries needed to be cooked a little longer. I feel the kitchen was rushed but it was around 1 and only about half of the tables were occupied. Our server was great. I expected the decor to be like the ocean themed since it is the Riptide. Okay first things first, service was excellent! We walked in through the patio and the host was pleasant but our server was so great! Very nice and attentive. The food was a little underwhelming. Our appetizer was delicious so it hyped us up that the shrimp poboy and the seafood mac n cheese would be just as good. Unfortunately, the poboy was super salty and our pasta was cold and could've used some seasoning. Again, our appetizer was super flavorful and the sauce on the poboy was so good and it was close to closing time so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. Again, our server was great so she did ask what we thought at the end and inevitably discounted our food which was very kind of her. The wait is long. Expect to wait. The place is busy, and there aren't enough staff to tend to the level of patronage they have. So expect to wait once inside as well. I don't want to talk poorly about the staff as I'm sure they are doing all they can given what's going on currently. Don't expect to come and pay a good low price and eat all you can eat crab legs. You're going to pay for it. $75 at the time we visited. Per person. So we opted for 1.5lb instead. The crab was pretty good. I wouldn't come back and pay $75 for all you could eat, but I might pay $27 for 1.5 lbs again. We also got raw oysters and they were good and fresh. Shrimp tacos were my absolute favorite thing we ate. Overall the experience was ok. We would probably not come back, but we aren't sorry we came. It's an experience. read more

We have been on vacation for a week and this was hands-down the worst meal we have ordered. First, you can't substitute sides (not even an option for an up-charge). You pay a fortune for a handful of crab legs and must take the fries and slaw that come with it. The fries and hush puppies were completely soggy as they were on the tray with the crab legs. We loved this place! I had a burger, but I must say it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. At least top 3 for sure. Hubbs had chicken, bacon Mac. Worst service I've ever gotten, I don't typically ask for a manager unless the service was excellent or garbage. And this time is was garbage. We came as a party of ten, so we didn't expect anything super quick, we just wanted good food and to enjoy each others company. Our food came out so sporadically, that half our party didn't even have their meals or appetizers before to go boxes were brought. That's right. The server checked on us so few times he didn't realize half of us had no food, half of us had the wrong food, none of us had drinks (so we would have to go to the bar to order drinks). It was truly unbelievable. I asked to speak with the manager after our checks and boxes were brought. 4 people still haven't gotten any food. Appetizers I ordered twice (because they were never brought the first time) were never brought. Finally our last 4 were brought their meals, only one was missing part of the seafood that comes with the combo. As the manager brings back checks with 10% off, they deliver the final bit of food (with the exception of the appetizer that never came). We have been there a few times and really like this place. Parking is on the side by the beach or on the street. If that's full, next store has valet parking. They have 2 bars, outside patio seating and inside seating. The seafood has always been good. On weekend they have someone playing music. The service has always been great, very friendly people.
