The restaurant is normal, nothing particularly unique. But basically functional, casual, and beachy. We had some relaxing live music... just an overall great beach experience. Riptides has a full bar and many adorable craft cocktail offerings. I went for the house margarita (several) which were excellent! While I normally wait until later to type my reviews, today I am growing old waiting on my grandson to finish his all-you-can-eat crab legs. We came here for Mother's Day, 8 of us. 2 had the AYCE crab legs which they both say were phenomenal. I had blackened red snapper. A couple of us had popcorn shrimp which were crisp and fresh and tasty. Two got the NY Strip and it was cooked (rare) and amazing--and that is saying A LOT for a seafood restaurant. Our server was Dillon and I cannot say enough good things about him. With 2 people on the AYCE menu, he never missed a lick! Nobody ran out of drink. Nobody ran out of food. Our AYCE diners didn't have to sit around and wait on the next serving. Dillon was always one step ahead of us, super upbeat and friendly, and the show never stopped. While several of the menu items are market price-- cha-ching--it is totally worth the extra chub. read more

Absolutely amazing lunch at Riptides Raw Bar & Grill! I had the grouper fish tacos and they were hands down some of the best I've ever had -- fresh, flavorful, perfectly cooked, and beautifully put together. You can really taste the quality. Erin, our server, was an absolute rockstar. Attentive without being overbearing, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Great service truly makes a difference, and she nailed it. The food is always amazing and fresh!! The hush puppies were fried to perfection, popcorn shrimp was very flavorful, and the coleslaw I actually really did enjoy. Fries were good but still okay, a little hard but wasn't terrible. The only thing I would change was the service. I ordered a Pina Colada and never got my drink the whole time I was there. This restaurant has started charging for using credit cards however Florida law prohibits charges on debt card bartender refused to remove charge and would not get manager. We were pleasantly surprised by Riptides. We go to New Smyrna Beach almost every weekend and see their advertising on the plane. But it's farther north than we typically like to travel. Today we were on an adventure and realized how close we were to the restaurant and took it as a sign. Where is parking is limited and expensive they have plenty of free parking across the street. We sat in the porch area and it could not have been better. Tyler was our server. He mentioned he was new but had he not mentioned it we would have never known. He was great! Just attentive enough and made sure we had everything we needed. We order the mild wings and the conch fritters for appetizers. Both were fantastic! The wings had a great grilled flavor and the fritters were just chewy enough. The dip that came with the fritters was delicious too. We shared the beach platter fried. It was really hard to determine which was our favorite. I said the conch fritters my husband said the shrimp crab cakes. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed all of it! The outside area was perfect. We sat in the sun and it was the beach day vibe I was going for. We are local-ish 1 county north but it felt like we were on vacation. It was just what we needed today and we certainly be back! Went to Riptide's tonight. Great choice! We got a table in the covered seating. Our server took our drink order which was margaritas. When he brought our drinks we ordered our dinners, I ordered the jumbo shrimp platter which comes with coleslaw, hush puppies and my side of onion rings. My husband ordered the fried fish which also comes with coleslaw, hush puppies and his side of black beans and rice. Drinks delicious and my shrimp I think is the best I've had! We fell for the all you can eat crab advertising banner and went there. The crab price was $115 for that. We did not have the crab. We had very good crab cakes and yummy in house made hush puppies. Also had a side of raw oysters. They were small but very tasty. We went about five o'clock and thought perhaps they may have an early bird special or drink special, there was none. Here's the good: service wasn't too bad. Staff was friendly enough. Fried plantains! I love them! Get a bowl of clam chowder. Its well worth the extra $2 over the cost of a cup. Very dense in clam! I don't want to say "here's the bad".... But.... If anyone has EVER gotten "coconut shrimp".... and you expect it to be well battered with coconut... its not! It looks like plain old fried shrimp! My expectations were not met. Thankfully, I have a teenage son who will devour this! This place has that sufers "beach town" vibe to it. I know because i grew up in a beach town! My family and I have made a Christmas tradition out of having brunch here and we've been doing so for several years now. We came here a little after noon on Sunday. Buffalo Bills are the team that gets the big screen with 7 or so smaller screens surrounding the bar. Steelers/Vikings were already on the big screen since they were playing in Dublin on this Sunday. Anyway, it wasn't very crowded since the NFL kickoffs didn't really start until 1 pm. So we started with a half dozen oysters that were a good size (there were actually7!) but things went downhillfrom there . We also ordered a cup of the Surf and Turf soup. The soup came out lukewarm at best. We asked the runner that brought the soup out if he could take it back and heat it up. He did and returned saying the new cup was from a "fresh batch". The 2nd cup was piping hot however there was one piece of "Turf" and a miniscule amount of "Surf." Next up were the main courses. We had the Steak Tip Salad (the server didn't ask how we wanted the steak tips cooked but they came out medium) and the Cedar Plank Salmon (the server did ask how we wanted the salmon cooked) and it came out the requested medium). The vegetables served with the salmon unfortunately tasted like they were sitting a while and we're less than lukewarm while the fully loaded potato was still lukewarm. Anyway, the runner brought all the food and the server took our orders and brought the check but never asked how ANYTHING was or if we wanted desserts. The place was slowly filling up as we left after the 1 pm kickoffs so business is good. We had this place on our list to try due to the good reviews and the crowds we see when we drive by on weekends. Unfortunately it's a one and done for us. We have been coming to this location for many years, and always come back for more! We often split some appetizers & soups, but the entrees and sandwich options are great also! The Riptide Shrimp & Fried Green Tomatoes were what we had today....yummy, and perfect for sharing! Some other appetizers that are delicious and unique to Riptides that we love: Caribbean Chicken Nachos, Rumicane Shrimp, and Shrimp and Avocado Spring Rolls. I can't say enough good things about the soups! The New England Clam Chowder was full of potatoes and clam pieces, and the Surf & Turf Bisque was just as full of beef/shrimp! Delicious! The restaurant is clean, the service is always friendly and pretty fast. The menu has something for everyone, and the drink lists are great! Parking can be a bit tricky, but there are a few options that make it easier! The beach ramp has pay parking, but you can use your phone to pay very easily. There is often complimentary valet at the condo/resort, and there is also a big public park (Andy Romano Beachfront Park) with lots of parking. Something in this area I naturally doubt. I suspect tourist trap...not here! This is no doubt the best meal we had while on vacation. 6 people including two kids. EVERYONE was satisfied and loved their meals. Even the kids were asking to come back. The Coconut Mahi was served one of the best meals I've had. The margarita was amazing. We made a quick last minute decision to go to riptides and I'm so happy we did! The service was great, the food was just as good and the drinks were strong. We had a wonderful time! The coconut cay mahi was incredible and so were the coconut shrimp. During happy hour make sure to get a 32oz beer, you keep the glass and if you come back with a picture of your glass you get the next beer 1/2 off during happy hour! We were looking for an oyster bar in Daytona beach so I picked this one out. It's on the street side next to the beach so not the best of the best location compared to some of the beach view options, but the outside patio is still really pleasant regardless of the cars rumbling down the avenue. I split the grouper with my dad. The veggies were great since it's not always easy to get veggie meals in the south. So that was much needed and felt good to my body. The coconut rice was yummy and a fun touch and the grouper was cooked perfectly. Flakey and flavorful. It was a well rounded meal and very enjoyable, and not super filling when split. I also had a side of sweet potato fries and I wish they had cooked then a bit more, they were still elasticy and not so warm and crisp: looked like they came from a store bought bag. My husband had grouper and shrimp and hush puppies. The hush puppies were really good and he got the seafood Caribbean style which he really enjoyed.
