Ah wondrous, magical Risbo! I was treated to dinner at this lovely restaurant in celebration of my bEARTHday and the vibe set the perfect tone for how I need the rest of this year to go. It's such a calming and serene space, and they have the most beautiful backyard area that invites you to sit on a mat, kick off your shoes, and listen to the birds. The kitchen is front facing, where the chef is grilling meat and fish to perfection, and roasting corn and sweet plantain. I had the lamb chops and Mac and cheese and my friend got the grilled red snapper. Everything was heavenly. I'd love to host an event in the space, and will be back soon for more libations and excellent food. read more

I tried the rice pilaf, the Shepard's pie, and the lentil stew - all were incredible. A special mention for the Shepard's pie, not normally my favorite, but this was really well made. I've just started coming here as I'm new to the neighborhood. I quickly changed my mind about this place. I've been eating and drinking here all this week and I guess the porter decided to pull me aside to reprimand me about where I sat days ago. Seating is limited, I understand and I followed the rules as they are stated on signage. I often have to take the very last seat as I do not have a choice. Some Tables hold up to 3 parties or one large party, as it doesnt really specify. Many times those tables are occupied by 1 or 2 (single or double person) parties before I get there and I have to squeeze in between them just to get a spot. I haven't broke any seating rules as in being the 4th party at the table, due to social distancing guidlelines. I have been doing this for some time now. If there was a seating issue, it is not professional to just single people out to discuss a seating situation as if I cannot read signs. Pretty much everyone has been piling up on tables the best way possible in this event and I just think that's it unreasonable to enforce arbitrary rules that probably dont exist for "certain" types of customers. The way he first addressed me was as if I come here and not make a purchase. Mind you, neither the many cashiers nor the owner has brought any of this to my attention while I was allegedly "sitting wrong". It was a porter who has absolutely no contact with the area as would a host. What's worse I was accused of something that literally didn't happen, which in their paraphrasing, I was preventing parties from being seated. Which is all bunk. This is why restaurants have seating protocols operated by a host and seating software. However, The venue does not have a host. Just creepy and unprofessional. This porter pulled me to the side with an incoherent hand gesture, while I was trying to make a purchase at the cash wrap to inform me of my "seating violation". So why wasn't this an issue with the cashiers I've been interacting with? The cashier had more than enough opportunities to convert this. I've ordered for delivery multiple times and they do not disappoint. Ive had majority of their menu but by far the best thing is the Branzino Risbo Platter. The marinate on the fish is out of this world. The meat just comes off the bones. Not to mention, the platter comes with pretty fantastic veggies. There is so many things I liked about Risbo's that I don't know where to start. For one the beautiful atmosphere draws you in from the street - that's how we ended up here - as there's nothing remotely like it anywhere else in the neighborhood. Secondly the food is delicious and equally beautiful. It's like eating a piece of art. Now more about that stunning interior. The entire front wall is open and exposed to the street but step inside and you're transformed to a magical garden. There's plenty to look at from the fresh plants, to the antique ceiling, to all the textural elements around. I want whomever designed this interior to come do my house....for reals! The dining area isn't small and the large benched tables do hold alot of people. We choose to sit in the more secluded area in front of the order station with individual tables. A small bar that seats maybe 8 is off to the right and even has hooks for holding your purse or jacket under the bar top. It's the little touches like that that really make this place stand out. There's also a hand-wash station outside the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen in NYC. An outside patio for lounging and dining and a drink spigot for water are also on premises. You place your order with the cashier, sit and wait for your order to be called. They give you a buzzer like at TGI Friday's. The menu is small but artisan and pricey. We were taken back by the prices a bit so decided to share a $20 chicken platter and order an extra side. We were assured this was enough for two people. The chicken was moist and favorable. Although they call themselves a French restaurant the spices were more Moroccan and nothing we ordered seemed remotely French. Accompanying our chicken was a slaw of sorts, some hummus, and delicious perfectly roasted vegetables. Everything was arranged beautifully and I almost hated to tear into it. Hubby's side of mac and cheese for $7 was very, very skimpy - about the size of a applesauce cup - good but only about three bites. Overall I don't recommend a platter to share. The chicken portion is adequate but everything else is very small. I could have eaten the entire thing myself and still been hungry. The price is really what brought this review down a star. The meal should have been in the $15-range, with the side about $4. They also push you to tip. If paying with a card it prompts you and you have to do an extra step to not tip. Tip...for what? Everything was self serve - order at the counter, pick it up yourself, get your own drink and silverware, and clean your own table. What am I tipping for?!? Also worth mentioning: No ice for your water at the spigot, maybe they would get that for you at the bar if you went over and asked. Food took a really, really long time to come out (in excess of 30 minutes and they weren't crowded). The cooked meats were in clear view (a treat in itself watching the chef work his magic) so I don't know why such a long wait. On the plus side you can order food at the bar too. Okay, here's the quick and dirty on Risbo: Ordering = fast food style Ambiance = trendy, hipster cafe Food = BBQ joint meets healthy vegan Drinks = craft cocktail style Prices = bougey restaurant It sounds a little all over the place, but it totally works for them! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and experience. Very friendly service and delicious food and drinks in an unpretentious atmosphere? I'm there! Here's the low down on the ordering because I was confused at first. When you come in, seat yourself wherever you want. You order at the counter on the left (the small one with the bar) and pay right away. If you order drinks, they'll pour your beer and wine right there, and cocktails they'll bring to your table. Once your order is ready, they'll call your name and you pick it up at the other counter, the one with the food. As for the food, I highly recommend the platter. It's $20, but you get a little taste of everything. If you prefer to order a la carte, don't skip the plantain! They do accept credit cards now too. Can't wait to go back! read more

Sooo delicious. I started with the Mezcal Passionfruit cocktail ($11), then the rotisserie pork platter ($20) with cabbage slaw, roasted plantain, rice pilaf, roasted veges and hummus. There was a lemon butter sauce too, which I wish I had more of. I would've licked every last drop had I not been on a new friend meet up. Haha! He had the chicken platter, and ordered a side of the Mac n Cheese which was also super delicious but we couldn't finish it cos our individual plates were so filling. Chicken was great and juicy too. Everything felt homemade and tasted freaken fantastic. I finished my whole platter and needed a long walk, I was stuffed. It's counter / self service so a nice mix of informal but quality dining. Other than waiting soooooo long for our drink the vibes was awesome . Afro-Euro centric, chill and drink kinda vibes . It's has the poshness of the city but the cultured, hang out with friends and talk BS all night and laugh kinda vibes of BK. The food was amazing as well . A friend and I had dinner here last Tuesday. It was pretty empty inside, a family in the garden and two other folks dining inside. The bartender was unpleasant, but everyone else was welcoming enough. Both my friend and I ordered the lamb platter. We definitely made the right decision. The lamb was delicious-- well seasoned and well prepared. The spread of roasted veggies, rice pilf, hummus, plantain and that tasty sauce was perfect. The drink I had was just okay. Last night in Brooklyn and couldn't decide on what to eat. Someone suggested since you do not need a reservation. The atmosphere is very relaxed with a really cool vibe. Different places to sit and enjoy your dinner. I ordered the 1/4 chicken, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, and the roasted vegetables. I also ordered the frozen watermelon frose. The rotisserie chicken was some of the best I have ever had. The Mac n cheese was amazing as well. The mashed potatoes were good just needed salt. The greens it came with had some curry flavor in it which was not really to our liking but the mashed potatoes were good. The chicken was juicy and strongly seasoned. I got the duck, which was a huge let down. It was seasoned similarly to the chicken but it was really weird bone pieces that were difficult to eat. It also didn't even taste like duck, I thought it was more like chicken but the worst part was the skin - really soggy. The whole point of duck is getting that nice crispy skin, so that was a major turn off, but it was also weird pieces that were hard to eat. Horrible customer service!!!!!!!! I will never patronize at this restaurant again. The Mgr was inadequate with service. I ordered the duck platter and a side of devil eggs. The sides were just ok; extremely small portions (I get it, they want to make a profit since it's covid). The duck was inedible, completely tough hard to chew. I went back to the counter to switch the protein since I was dissatisfied. Mind you this was the most expensive item on the menu. The Mgr clearly didnt care and told me there is nothing he can do and will not replace with a cheaper protein. He even jammed my knife in the duck to see what I was talking about. Really nice aesthetic, just disappointed because I got exactly what I did NOT ask for. Specifically ordered the "Healthy One" with Quinoa instead of rice, and NO avocado. I got avocados and a bunch of jalapeño, and for the price of $15 barely any rice is in this bowl. My plantain is also barely cooked and tastes too raw (I asked if it was sweet and cooked while ordering, and I'm West Indian so I know what sweet plantain should look/taste like). There was one woman working in addition to the cooks in the kitchen. She took our orders, then made our drinks and shortly after our food came out. I ordered their 1/4 chicken platter ($20). It came with hummus, spicy cabbage salad, plantain, roasted veggies, rice pilaf and sauce. It was tasty and a generous amount of food, but I thought the price was too high. I just moved to the neighborhood and everytime I walked by this place it looks awesome. They have music playing and always busy and the ambiance looked amazing. I came here on a tuesday night and they weren't that busy which was nice and the menu isn't massive which is really nice. We got the mac and cheese which was delicious. Then we got a Risbo plater which included pork, hummus, spicy cabbage salad, plantain, roasted veggies, curried rice pilaf, sauce. I could have eaten a whole nother plate. I was so delighted the first time I ordered from this restaurant. So delighted I ordered again within the same week. I got adventurous. What happened next only ended 36 hours later after severe dehydration, a trip to urgent care, 2 bottles of pedialyte, prayer (to which the porcelain god gave 0.., and a $150 prescription to stop what easily could have been a scene from the Exorcist. It was bad and I was really scared. It's been almost a month now and I'm still skiddish. I don't know if I will ever try this place again. I'm guessing based on the number of reviews that describe a negative encounter with the female bartender that she must be part owner? I've ordered from Risbo and loved the food so I figured I'd go in and try our there drinks but I should have left well enough alone! The service was terrible! I tried asking the bartender questions about the drinks but I guess I was interrupting her text sesh because I could barely get her to look up. After I ordered drinks my boyfriend ordered food and she got the order completely wrong... I ordered a butternut squash soup which was advertised on the specials sign outside and inside but they looked at us like they had no idea what we were talking about. Negative interaction with the female bartender. I am on restricted diet, which restrains the consumption of carbs/sugars. This reduces spikes in insulin and is to best delay hereditary diabetes. In short, I am able to enjoy foods/drinks with zero or relatively no carbs. I am able to enjoy Gin, Soda, Rotisserie Chicken. The food was over a 35min wait. So my group headed to the bar. The bartender took all orders; my gin on the rocks included. When I attempted to add a sugar free chaser to my drink, the female bartender stepped in and rudely explained "no outside beverages." Watering down the drink, and creating a chaser substitute helps my stomach enjoy the beverage, and i then stand out less in a group. She was unfazed by my dietary restriction and I was informed that no outside beverages would be allowed. The matter-of-fact tone resonated with our group. It was also displeasing that I was either up-sold to $12, or that is the escalated price of their well-gin. My group finished their drinks, and I swigged mine, so that I could enjoy my chaser as I walked out the door. Been before, loved the food. Will not come back. read more

This was one of, if not the, best brunches I've had in New York City. I started with a screwdriver and ordered the Ouef Brouille. My eggs were cooked to creamy perfection with creme fraiche and chives, along with rotisserie potatoes, a Bibb salad, buttered brioche and added an order of bacon, which was a great decision. My boyfriend loved his cured harissa salmon on Brioche, and added potatoes. The order took a bit to get to us, which was expected considering it was in the middle of the brunch rush. Everything was so delicious it was well worth the wait. Our bartender was very helpful with suggestions and answering any questions we had. I went there a few months ago with my male friend who is Trinidadian-American. I had a horrendous interaction with a female bartender who should not be working with the public AT ALL. My friend and I got in the regular line when the female employee walked over from the bar area to tell people in line that they could order over at the bar. She was saying it very aggressively though in a way that made us hesitant to go over there, but we did. I asked what the difference was between ginger beer and ginger juice. Her response without looking at me was, "One is beer and one is juice." That was it. Since the owner is a friend of my friend, I refrained from going off on her. I just said, "Hmph." After we ordered food, I went back to her to order cocktails. She was facing the customers and doing something with the glasses so I waited for her to help me for about 30 seconds. There was no one else waiting to order, but she ignored me and then walked off without saying anything. When she came back, she still ignored me and then helped a white female who came up right as this bartender came back to the bar area. I still bit my tongue so that she wouldn't mess up my friend's cocktail that I was about to order. I don't know what her deal is, but she had a trash attitude...and I don't understand what that was about. The only think I can think of is because I'm Asian-American and my friend is Trini-American and she has a chip on her shoulder about interracial relationships (even though my friend and I are just friends). Her attitude started as soon as I opened my mouth to ask a question. I've never had an encounter like that at a retail establishment. Will never ever go back. Who wants to go eat somewhere where the service is bigoted? Watch out for the mosquitos in the back and behind the bar. read more

The vibe and aesthetic gets a full 5 stars. They have awesome music, however the service gets 1 star. As much as I want to like this place, the staff is not friendly. I felt I was being ignored for a while and then after I ordered my drink it was just placed on the counter without a smile or any acknowledgement of a person being there. It would be an awesome place if the workers greeted patrons with a smile and explained how the spot works (you get your own food, your own drink, and buss your own table) Music... food, ambiance awesome Service ... awkward and unwelcoming.
